Weblog Awards Update

We are behind now and losing ground. Folks have suggested embedding the poll here, but the problem is the way the blog software loads the stuff below the fold even before you click on the "Continue Reading" link.

To avoid grinding the HQ and the Wizbang Awards to a halt, I embedded it in a post that's not on the main page. If you're having trouble getting the poll to load at the link above, try here instead. It seems to be a little faster. NEVERMIND. I swear that was working ten minutes ago. You'll just hafta wait for it to load at the top link above.

Your votes are appreciated.

2 OK, we're losing. But Michael Vick is kicking ass in the Best Pet Blog

3 Let me get this straight: Ace has gotten 59,788 visits (not pageviews) today alone and yet only has 12,422 votes overall? I know we call ourselves morons, but is this concept really that difficult to grasp?

Click link.

Click big circular object next to the blog's name.

Repeat every 24 hours.

We're losing to a Canadian. Ya'll should be ashamed of yourselves. Ace and his co-bloggers spend hours a day on this site, as sad (terribly, terribly sad) as that may be. Cheetos don't just jump into one's mouth and nuts don't just scratch themselves, you know. It takes hard work and dedication to consume that much Valu-Rite and write short, witty criticisms whenever you happen to wake from your drunken stupor around noon.

Anyway, I continue to cast my daily votes for AoS.

18 I think the AoS crew needs to start an alliance with the Canadian SDA crew. Why? Better chance at doing great conservative things in two countries than separately in their respective countries.

Besides, if Harper gets a majority conservative government, there's a good possibility that certain freedoms found in the USA will be found in CAN.

Your votes are appreciated.

Your votes are appreciated? It's not exactly a call to arms worthy of Washington or Lincoln or MacArthur, is it? You need a picture of  Old Glory fluttering in the breeze. And to represent the enemy, a picture of rats. And a speech.

"My fellow Americans: Today our way of life is threatened as never before. An army of undead rodents is poised on our northern border, ready to sweep down across our purple mountains majesty and across the fruited plain, scurrying up our womens skirts, perhaps even violating Andrew Sullivans most inner sanctum.

In this dark hour America calls on all of you to do your duty in helping to defeat Kate and her Army of Rats, so that government by the people, for the people, of the people shall not perish from this earth."

What?

As I was saying, there's really nothing more brilliant than cheating, and telling everyone how you cheated, while the vote is being taken.  If anyone at Weblogs was serious about policing the process, I'm sure they could compare the time on your "Ha, ha, I just cheated" comment to said activity.

51 Y'all who are voting: keep it up, it's working!

Y'all who are cheating: stop wasting your time. Your votes are not being counted. Clearing the cache, or launching a different browser on the same machine, doesn't really get you a new vote. It just makes you think you have a new vote. But it doesn't even get added to the total. If you want to get more votes, the time you spent trying to cheat would have been better spent emailing your friends and relatives, and asking them to vote. Or posting a link to the poll on some conservative forum somewhere. Or watching The Simpsons on Hulu, or some other activity, because the cheating just plain doesn't work.

Isn't "right wing" in Canada pretty much center-left in the U.S.?

For political parties, Deacon, not for individuals like Kate (and Kathy Shaidle, Ezra Levant, Mark Steyn, and genuine conservative comments sections posters, ahem) probably translated into U.S. terms along the lines of...

New Democrats (NDP) and Bloc Québécois (BQ: French separatist federal party only runs in Quebec) are socialists and leftists of the McKinney wing of the Dems or outright leftists like International ANSWER (although there probably are a very few libertarian types in the BQ).

The Liberals (LPC) are whores working both sides of the street with mainstream "liberal Democrats" really running the party from downtown Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver but they get rural, "Blue Dog Democrat" seats by running more-conservative types in rural areas (but these MPs have no strength in the party or sitting in the House of Commons) or bought through promised pork spending in the riding (district).

Our relatively-new Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) is a combination of RINOs from the former Progessive Conservative Party (yes, it really did have that oxymoronic name and used the fitting acronym of P.C.) along with some "moderate Republicans"; and a mixture of "moderate Republicans" and real conservatives (again, espcially from rural ridings) and conservative libertarians from the various incarnations of the Reform Party (started in reaction to our P.C. version of Reagan and Thatcher in the 1980s, Brian Mulroney, being the equivalent of Bill Clinton after Newt led the taking over of the Congress by the GOP).

There is no religious right in Canada, and would be viciously attacked were it to try to influence politcis, so issues of Judeo-Christian morality are not part of the political process or debate with the liberals having won and social conservatives (Christians and the religious of other faiths) too scared to fight back over moral issues and without a true political voice. They vote CPC, but it hasn't helped with the Conservatives having had two minority governments. So with that missing, it makes politics here seem much more liberal than in the U.S.A.

...typical proxy voting war.  Probably not more than 1 in 20 votes are real.  They always end up decided on the last day.  And if you and your proxy warriors have only kept it close up until now, you lose.  The smart players keep their final capacity hidden until the last day.

If you lose, you lose.  That other blog doesn't hold a candle to this one.  They just have a handful of dedicated tech readers who have access to proxy lists (probably they're all from the Far East, depending on when the vote tallies start mounting up).
