He should have vetoed Congress' spending, not created the DHS, fixed Social Security, cracked down on illegal aliens, and penalized corporations for outsourcing jobs and importing crap.

If he did all that, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in today, we wouldn't have Barack Hussein Obama playing president, and Bush would've been the greatest president ever.

I still think Bush did right in Iraq.

I think Bush (eventually) made some excellent choices for the Supreme Court.

Unfortunately, I can't think of much else.

Those are pretty big things for a legacy, and for his sake I hope they are what he's remembered for. But, today I heard something about the deficit today being bigger than the entire total of government spending in 2000? If that's really the case, holy f'ing crap, the man's simply a freaking communist and we got snookered by the fact that he wasn't insane on social/foreign policy.

There are still some good eggs in the Republican Party, but man, we haven't had a good one rise to anywhere near the top since 1984. And the only solution, closed primaries, doesn't seem to be anywhere on the agenda.

So. Yeah. We're still fucked.

8 If Iraq and/or Afghanistan ends up being a stable, free country, like maybe a Turkey, then Bush's legacy (longterm) will be positive. My belief is that Islam itself is a radically unfree, tyrannical, and evil religion, and by codifying it within the structure of those two countries, we've set the stage for the next Taliban to take over, and it won't be pretty. Afghanistan could go back to warlords and al-Qaeda, and Iraq could be taken over by Iran or Saudia Arabia or (if there is a civil war) both and be used as a terrorist puppet like Syria and Lebanon.

It's really a shame, because I think President Bush is personally an honorable, humble, decent, and kind man. I think he's a good man. I think he wants to much to believe about the goodness of people and Mankind that he has convinced himself that malicious or weak or bad people (Democrats, the media, Muslims, illegal aliens, Paulson, Democrats.... yes, they deserve to be there twice) just need to be exposed to kindness and goodness for Good Things to flourish. He's a good man, but I worry he's unwise.

Bush�s legacy would have been a lot better as well as more conservative if the squishy bastards like McCain had not constantly stabbed him in the back on stuff like the tax cuts, drilling in ANWR, fixing SS, etc. He turned out to be a liberal president just like his father but most of that was due to having the conservative part of his agenda blocked.

21 I thank the Heavenly Father that W was in office on 9/11 and has since kept us safe. In six months' time, or less, we will be wishing that he was back. I was never on board with his compassionate conservatism, and was sorely disappointed at his support for the bailout palooza. I was equally irked that he didn't take more of an initiative in border control and illegal immigration. But I give him the highest praise for being tough in the war on terror....in the face of all American (and supposed worldwise) adversity. I have always thought that GW had the best intentions and is truly patriotic. I believe he loves this country. I shudder at his replacement.

I think George W will be remembered well in time. God bless he & our elegant first lady, Laura.

The press used up their credibility to deny him his triumph, and that squandered capital will never return to them. Now they are broken, bankrupt, marginally employable and wholly unbelievable--and for what? Can you imagine any other politician, of either party, who would've stuck to his guns on the war in the face of such criticism from all sides?

Maybe the bailout was like the war in that respect: GWB did what he felt he had to do, whether it pissed people off or not.

I miss him already.

47 Bush's decision to invade Iraq was the biggest gamble of his presidency. Clearly, he won that bet. The war in Iraq became the distraction to Al Qaeda that was instrumental in preventing any further attacks on America. Taking the fight to the enemy has turned out to be a very successful strategy.

Though the man has had his shortcomings, who doesn't? Clinton allowed the bombing of the World Trade Center, Alfred P Murrah Federal Building, the USS Cole and the US Embassy in Yemen on his watch. The media left him alone.

A bunch of islamic radicals fly planes into two buildings, causing people to choose between burning to death or becoming pavement pizza, in the name of the "religion of peace", and this man brought the fight to them.

He was not the best orator, and at times he was stubborn when he needed to be flexible. However, I shudder to think of what would have happened had Al Gore been president on 9/11. Liberals are not bad people. I know a few of them, and they are quite generous, kind, and usually friendly people. However, they are typically highly academic, and incredibly naive. The problem is that they refuse to believe that there is a such thing as absolute evil in the world. They believe that "if you just sit down and talk to them ...", that the world can be safe. They ignore that there are people that are completely bent on our destruction and forcing their ideology on us. Their answer to this is to give a little - bend a bit at the knees like Britain. Britain did that, and now look at them. Sharia law has been implemented in parts of England.

Had the Liberals been in control, that could have been us. George W. Bush wasn't having any of that.

President Bush kept us safe for 7 years when it seemed like it could not be accomplished (I had an aunt and cousin in the towers that day-thankfully they made it out--, and another aunt who is a postal worker in the Princeton Post office that was exposed to anthrax, and I know firsthand what the fear of loss felt like). President Bush stood silent as the liberals blamed him for the economic crisis that was brought on by the Clinton affirmative action policies--yeah when you give out home loans to everyone that receives a welfare check it's easy to have the highest home ownership in history, and it also easy to destroy a worldwide economy when those welfare checks fall short of making the Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage payments--

The United States is not a democracy...we are a Republic. These are two completely different approaches to the democratic process (which I think you are confusing for "democracy"), and The Constitution itself makes the United States a republic. In a democracy, the majority rules regardless of the minority�s opinion, there are no set laws--things just kind of happen upon the will of the people. In a republic, the majority's views are strictly controlled by a set of laws (AKA- our Constitution) and just because something is popular with the people, it doesn�t mean that that�s what�s going to happen. In a nutshell, a democracy gives the people what they want regardless of the consequences; a Republic restricts what people may do to a defined set of rules--laws. In a democracy the people's wish is the law (BTW-that's what happened to the Roman Empire), and in a republic the people's wish is subject to the law, but heard by the lawmakers...which means that our country's leaders are obligated to hear the voice of the people, but do not necessarily have to listen, or do, what they say if it is not to the benefit of the people or country. True leadership rises above popularity and meets the true need of our nation...God Bless President Bush.

If you would like further info on the difference between a republic and a democracy, then do a google.com search for democracy v. republic. You will find lots of info, including a lot quotes from the founding fathers.

You can do a Youtube search for Bill Clinton interviews where he actually admits the housing market crash was a result of his administration's failed policies. I do believe you will also find some clips of Nancy Pelosi pointing her crooked finger to Ol' Slick Willy as well...
