34 eman - they're saying only two injuries from the rocket that hit the nursing home.  Haaretz is also reporting that Lebanon says it's not Hezbollah firing the rockets into Israel, it's another Palestinian group. Given what Hezbollah said earlier this week about retaliation if Israel attacked Lebanon, I'd be surprised if Israel firing back isn't viewed as an attack and we see Hezbollah getting involved soon.  Not good.

37 I'm not sure it matters who fired the rockets.   Israel can't take down Hamas, and look the other way at rockets coming across another border.  I kind of think five artillery shells are a light response, but we'll have to see if they hit anything.

Posted by: Methos at January 08, 2009 02:06 AM (Ce1Ps)

45 I heard Hitchens today on the radio, in a lucid moment. He persuasively argued that in perhaps ten or twenty years Israel would not exist. And given that he usually has little positive to say about Israel, because like most lefties he sees Israel as the Big Bully, this was remarkable. Even he had to admit Israel could not defeat the demographic trend, and he wasn't happy to see the theocratic Muslim douchebags getting full-throated support from peoples usually considered civilized. Including Europe and ourselves, the nation below Canada.

I've usually dismissed nearly all catastrophic prognostications. Real life is not so dramatic; it's slow and tedious and incremental. And we have become very attached to forms, not substance... so the notion of civilized nations disappearing seems improbable. Such a nation, like the UK or the nation below Canada, may change into parodies of their former selves over time, but the forms and names will remain.

Now, I'm wondering if Israel may in fact be formally dissolved by mid-century. Who would have guessed that the people who made us think "never again" will be subjected to the same fate they suffered in the mid 20th Century, after only four generations? If Iran gets nukes, Israel may be forced to disappear. A death by ten thousand small cuts.

The Unicorn is also blessed with the mystical ability to provide each believer with a weekly butterscotch high colonic, which is the ultimate soul soother that brings the believer into an immediate state of total enlightenment.  From whence the believer no longer needs to worry about such mundane things as war, mortgages, debt ceilings, and work.  Plus, the ass is left feeling quite satisfied, which, after the ass-fucking the world is going to give us over the next 4 to 11 years, is something to look forward to.

Also claim that you're open minded, you don't hate me, you are doing all this to try and educate me.

49 George,

Hitch isn't the first to predict the eventual loss of Israel.  Richard Nixon, major supporter of Israel, felt during his Presidency that eventually Israel would be gone because everyone would turn on them, including that nation below Canada.  Say what you will about his own personal demons interfering with his domestic policies, but he was a crackerjack on the foreign side.

Yep, Trickie Dick was certainly prescient about that one. I'm still baffled that so many Israelis don't see that their "peace partners" are out to literally exterminate them. I mean, do they think that Palestinians launching rockets at Israel, however badly aimed and primitive, is just a sport? Like some sort of pyrotechnic javelin toss?

Yeah, it was the best part of, er, whatever the hell movie it was in.

Mmmm. As I recall, the first sketch was Monique Gabrielle doing a "playhouse" centerfold, which entailed five minutes of her completely naked. It's funny.

The last sketch was a video with Andrew Dice Clay and (more importantly) a topless Corinne Wahl. This had to have been directed by Landis, with its disturbing mixture of sex, comedy and violence.

Then there was David Allen Grier as Don Simmons, poster child for "Blacks With No Soul". Blame it on the Bossa Nova.

The lost in cable TV running gag was so-so but a cute thread.

The Siskel & Ebert-esque review of the guy's life was so-so, but the follow-up sketch, "Roast Your Loved Ones" is great.

The condom bit was pretty standard.

Oh, lord, the bit with Ed Begley as the "invisible" man...that's classic.

"Hairlooming"? Heh.

"Two IDs"--Steve Gutenberg and one of the Arquettes. Kelly Preston in the condom sketch....

I thought the actual "Amazon Women" bit was a little weak. It was too close to real.

The whole movie's like a time capsule to the '80s.

79 Clinton and W both got to Washington 3 days before Inauguration. It is customary for all newcomers to have Blair house available to them after the 15th. The Obamas asked the WH to move in early, but they asked too late, as Laura Bush's spokesperson said that as usual BH was booked months in advance. They offered them an alternative, but were turned down. Obama does have an apartment in DC, but MO says she has never stayed there, too batchelory. They are staying in a super-palatial suite, about 1500 sq feet of opulence. No big skin off their teeth. Made up sob story by the whining media, Rachel Maddog threw a fit over it, I hear, but supposedly O was not even that interested, it was all MO who wanted it.  There's a link on Newsbusters to the story where Maddog got all po'd on behalf of O, and there's a link to the room pic they are staying in under the comments.
