Diane Feinstein...Democrats Should Seat Burris

Fresh off being blown off by Team Obama over the naming of Leon Panneta to head the CIA, Diane Feinstein cuts Harry Reid off at the knees.

Can't you just feel the love?

A key Democrat broke with her Senate colleagues Tuesday to support Roland Burris in his controversial bid to assume Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Rules Committee that soon could take up Burris' case, said Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has the right to appoint a senator despite the allegations of corruption against him.

"Does the governor have the power, under law, to make the appointment? And the answer is yes," Feinstein said, urging the Senate to settle the matter. "If you don't seat Mr. Burris, it has ramifications for gubernatorial appointments all over America. ... Mr. Burris is a senior, experienced politician."

The comments flew in the face of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's assertion that Burris should not be seated in part because the move would be tainted by the Blagojevich scandal. Feinstein's stance is the latest sign of intra-party tensions over the matter.

Burris is set to meet with Reid tomorrow. I think he'll enjoy throwing this in his face.

I would have thought democrats would feel the same way about Mccain (I guess some do).

16 Shit, they're going after each other like a bunch of piranhas in the Amazon...and they think that Barry O da Media Ho needs to report to them on his cabinet nominations...and now this crap about not seating Burris.  Diane, you need to realize that there are some members of your party that still, to this day, believe that they did so much to help out with the Equal Rights Act, when in fact, your party voted against it...

Just go up to Harry and the Kleagle,  bitch slap them and tell them to take their KKK uniforms off....and seat Burris before it's too late

22 I am getting more convinced that the reason that they don't want Burris has nothing to do with Blago's appointing him. There must be some pretty obvious scandal that would come out if he were to be a senator that would destroy the Dems in IL and reflect in Obama. The Dems don't care about "tainted" appointment - hell - Obama survived Wright, Ayers and Rezko.

36 As delicious as this is, this is a problem that we conservatives keep relishing without thought.

Let the Dems go around like chickens with their heads cut off.  We need a consistent message, and more importantly a consistent philosophy.  In this case it is- the governor has the statutory right to name a senator to fill that seat.  The Democrats in Springfield or Washington DC don't have the ability to take that away anymore.  The chances the IL assembly had, they blew, so.... Burris is a senator.

Part of the problem with conservative leadership in the last few years has been their willingness to go along with the liberal "whatever means necessary" BS.  There are rules.  Follow them or change them legally.  But until they are changed you must live within the rules that exist.

And a large part of that needs to be a constant media strategy.  The bailout mess is the liberal's fault, largely, but that case never made coherently.  It's time to stop going along to get along, and it's time to start going on the offensive.

Faster, please !

Feinstein was the one who wanted to forgo an impeachment trial on Billy Jeff, but instead wanted the Senate to censure him for his actions.

In retrospect, that made sense.  Did anyone really expect the trial to do any good?  Did anyone expect Billy Jeff to be ashamed over his actions?

45 Didn't I hear something recently about DiFi running for governor? I think she's getting her creds in order for a run at the top spot...or, at least, the second to the top spot. And, frankly, on paper, her credentials don't look half bad, especially if you add governor to the list. And, particularly if you compare her to number one and number two who sit atop the party right now. Actually, now that I think of it, she doesn't look too bad when you compare her to the top several dems in D.C. And, I don't think she can be a hell of a lot worse than teh Ahnold as governor.

60 It's begnning to become clear that the Dems have little or no respect for Barry.  They are challenging him at every turn.  Sure, they make some concilliatory statements, but oerall, they are asserting themselves as the alpha dogs.  Whe Obama apologized to Feinstein for not consulting her about Panetta, he essentially said, "I know this is supposed to be my Presidency, but I will bow down to  my betters."  What he should have said was, "Fuck you.  I'm the one that going to be President and I want Panetta."

#26 Hugh Jass

The county I grew up in, up in the panhandle of TX, was home to about a hundred thousand head of cattle on any given day during my childhood (60's & 70's). The huge majority of them were being fed out in feedyards for slaughter at one of about four nearby beef packing plants. The rest were foraging out in the field until their time came to go to the feedyard. I no longer live up there but these days there are about a hundred and fifty thousand head of cattle in that county. The extra fifty thousand are all dairy cattle and all of them have come from California within the last 10 years. Eastern NM has seen a similar influx of dairy cattle from CA. Along with the dairies come the industrial infrastructure for processing all of that milk. Cheese factories, etc. One might wonder why a substantial number of dairy farmers would abandon their entire operation, sell their land, move thousands of cattle over a thousand miles, buy up new land and build a new dairy infrastructure. I'm told that it has 100% to do with the impossibility of complying with all of the govt regulations that have been imposed there by the Sierra Club legislature. From your post, it sounds like there may be lots more cattle headed our way. California's stupidity continues to be Texas and NM's windfall.

Destroy your cities and they'll return. Destroy your farms and your cities will grow grass in the streets.
