Jeb Bush: I'm Not Running for Senator

Terrible news... Not only is a likely-winner out of the race, but it seems to indicate Jeb's own beliefs about the political environment the next, oh, 4-8 years.

Democrats retired in droves, or failed to run in droves, during the Republican "Realignment" from 2000-2004. This would seem to be the same phenomenon. It's just no fun putting yourself through all that crap to play for a losing team.

Besides, Allah linked an article from three months ago for his latest doom and gloom. Unfortunately, HA was the only decent pick for Best Blog, so I voted for him over KOS, Andi, and Politico.

As for the wailing and moaning of Senate Seats, MO may stay safe, since (so far) none of the Carnahans have stepped up, and no high profile candidates other than Matthews in PA have even started to talk about running against Republicans in 2010. Let's wait and see how the atmosphere is in a few months.

The best thing about Jeb's possible run was that, imperfect though he might be, he remains a popular governor and would've been very electable: an instant odds-on favorite. Now the seat is wide open and the Dems could quite easily pick it up, depending on who they nominate, especially since Obama will be here campaigning for them. I'd like to see outgoing Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio run for it, but he might be too rightwing (and/or too Cuban) for wishywashy purple Florida. Same goes for Ileana Ros-Lehtinen or either of the Diaz-Balart brothers.

Bill McCollum, the AG, has proven someone can still get elected statewide as a conservative, and he'd definitely be an improvement, but I wonder if the voters would go for the guy who LOST to Martinez in the '04 GOP primary.

Apparently, you folks don't know anything about Jeb Bush.

He was and is a huge RINO and he hand-picked Mel Martinez to serve in George's cabinet, then supported Martinez's run for the Senate. He helped make certain that McCain was the nominee. Forget Jeb Bush. I couldn't be happier that he has announced he will sit on his ass. It's bad enough that we have to deal with Crist.

There is a bench, and if we can get rid of the media stars and RINOs (but, I repeat myself), we can actually get a Republican to replace the complete asshole that is Mel Martinez. Also, forget Bill McCollum; he is a very blind alley.

How about Allen West, or a decent Republican out of Jacksonville that can never defeat the gerrymandered Democrat in a Congressional election, but might have broader Statewide appeal? Stay far away from the Bushes and Crists; they are in no way conservatives or Republicans. Get as far away from anybody associated with Crist or Jeb Bush as you can, and this seat could be won. Mel Martinez quit because he knew he had no support from conservatives and his sugar-daddys were about to be thrown out on their asses. Jeb Bush knows he has no conservative support, despite what you may read or hear. Bill McCollum is intensely disliked, except amongst the evangelicals.
