| Coulter Banned For Life From NBC Or Until Tomorrow, Whichever Comes FirstOn Coulter's Web site she writes: "DRUDGE GETS RESULTS: TODAY SHOW CHANGES MIND — WED: 7AM HOUR -- THE TODAY SHOW 10AM HOUR -- THE TODAY SHOW 4TH HOUR." If it wasn't clear already, Coulter is in the middle of a publicity tour promoting her new book, which came out today.Coulter sells more books, NBC gets bigger ratings and Drudge gets more traffic. Darling, who gives a shit what we say? It's not like Ann Coulter is worth defending. SHE IS NOT CONSERVATIVE NOR REPUBLICAN. She's just a very smart entrepreneur. She has routinely screwed the GOP in order to gain money.
She's an embarrassment but shouldn't be, as I don't think the vast majority of conservatives give a shit about her. She's Al Sharpton for our side. OF COURSE NBC will have her on... she's going to be ridiculous and offensive and give liberals an easy asshole to beat around. She certainly isn't going to convince anyone of anything. Maybe she'll call Obama a fag! That'll help a lot! The gulf from Ann Coulter to truly great conservative spokesmen is wide. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 01:52 PM (8jYMc) 4

Drudge's linky was to Politico which has now apparently scrubbed the article. Interesting.

She said, when asked by Hanney on Fox last night, that she would accept an invitation if given and then cancel the day of the show. We'll see. Sounds like some good publicity with the ole good cop bad cop routine. Professional wrestling? NBC does have Rodeo! Kemp Posted by: Kempermanx at January 06, 2009 02:04 PM (qvT/A) 9
Well, I guess I'm glad I wrote my NBC affiliate yesterday. It would have been a shame to let that righteous indignation go to waste.
And now I don't have to miss Chuck, Heroes, and the Superbowl. Oh, and what the hell is Shill talking about? Part of being a great conservative is the recognition that liberals are America's domestic enemy and should be treated as such. Or are you looking more for the Peggy Noonan branch of conservatism? "Everybody's happy, right?"
Not really. I mean, Coulter will boost NBC's audience share/ratings for a blip, right? How is that good? I'd prefer she remained "banned" so that the ripple effect widen... namely, she get more exposure due to the banning and NBC retaining the crown for most fascist and biased while losing money. That would be win-win. So, Ann, tell (MS)NBC you're now too busy washing your hair. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at January 06, 2009 02:18 PM (33hVp) 20

I'd hit it. I don't think I'd want her as a girlfriend--she's awfully hostile. But a one night stand? Sure, why not? One doesn't have to defend everything she says to recognize that she often has a point, and the folks on the right who just hate her on the left are exhibiting something of a double standard. There are a lot worse folks on the left who say a lot worse things and get a pass. Posted by: Magical Medial Mystery Tour at January 06, 2009 02:20 PM (jQS9X) 22

The Right needs firebrands. Lose 'em all and the population begins to skew further Left as the rhetorical, philosophical anchors are removed. How many on the Right remain willing to fight in the most aggressive manner the liberal media (BIRM) that still dominates? Not nearly enough.
Besides, agree or disagree with her philosophy, she provides excellent data to back her positions. The Left provides assertions. Coulter brings the facts. Which would you rather reward? What Ann Coulter has that no other talking conservative head has is insight into how real people speak.
She is blunt, bold and has the facts to back them up. Bless her. Wish we had other pundits that were not afraid to insult the left. The left has the media wrapped, she talks back. Oh my, please sir take the boot out of my neck. Name me one senator or rep. on the right that will insult the left. They disagree, but always in a gentile way. This has gotten repubs. nothing. Reid is taking credit for winning the war now, That is B.lls....and beautiful Ann has them. Posted by: free at January 06, 2009 02:53 PM (cFwGO) 37

Posted by: lmg at January 06, 2009 03:02 PM (A/vgC) 39
Vic, while I did vote and even work for Mccain, I don't like him much at all. Nor do I really like Bush beyond his steadfastness on the GWOT. I'm a fan of Palin but a bit skeptical of her, and I would have preferred Giuliani, Romney, or Thompson to Mccain (though I'm not super hot on those three either). Shit, I'd have almost preferred Hillary to Mccain and don't know what the difference between them is.
Who do you support, Vic? If you really think the only reason I don't like Coulter is because I'm squishy, then you are very, very stupid. I do happen to read this blog, for example, which is much more pointed in its anger than Coulter, but also a hell of a lot more rational. Ann Coulter is an attention whore, who pulls stunts for the idiots who give her money. You are obviously defensive about it, and I would be too if I were that stupid. Darling, there are so many legit conservative commenters out there that it's not even funny. But Ann is for the braindead, kinda like Sean Hannity is. There's a wide world of people to listen to if you want to turn your brain on, all the way from Rush to Hinderaker. There mere fact that Ann occasionally repeats a point that one of the smart people said a week earlier, and only half garbles it, does not make her smart. Anyone who believed that NBC really banned her 'for life,' or ever intended to, and anyone who thinks this stint wasn't invented to sell books, is a bit of a doofus. If anything, Ann Coulter is just boring and infantile. How can anyone still be interested in her ancient routine? Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 03:03 PM (8jYMc) 40

Vic, Thompson was the sane choice, except that he is a shitty leader (at least as evidenced by his slow decision time and the awful campaign he led). Giuliani was unacceptable because of his gun stance, and Romney is obviously just saying whatever works for him at whatever moment, but they both ahd an air of leadership to them that Mccain didn't.
I don't even think Mccain wanted to win. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 03:15 PM (8jYMc) 43

And looking at our voting public, would it be wise to toss out those who might reach the brain-dead? How many do you suppose are actually willing to commit time to or capable of grasping the "thinkers?" Disproportionately few, I'm afraid. The Right needs its talking-pointers too to survive the soundbite media. She is, of course, much more than that, but her quips and anecdotes hit their targets squarely. That is where Coulter excels and why she's indispensable. She's not the Right's best-selling author for no reason. You don't abandon or discredit her because she steps on some toes. Sooo ... can we assume these friends of yours are blonde? Listen - "free" is correct. Leftards hate Ann because she is smart and as ruthless as they are. Being wimps, that scares the bejezuss out of them. She is what we need - not some mincing "intellectual" afraid to mix it up with leftard scumbags. Anonymousdrivel,
you have a good point, but I still can't watch Ann for more than a couple of seconds without getting very annoyed that she hasn't evolved at least a little bit. Just so boring and stupid. But the same could obviously be said of most liberal commenters on the TV. What is Jon Stewart? Or Maddow? or Olbermann? Just anger, sprinkled with the occasional half hearted argument thought up elsewhere that only barely applies. Yeah, if that means a couple of people realize that the left is full of assholes, I guess Ann Coulter has her uses, but I honestly don't buy that. I think Ann Coulter is much more useful to the left than to the right. The left tells the middle that the right is angry and irrational, and they have a convenient prop in Ann. That's why I laughed when I read that NBC banned Ann. Of course they didn't! They love having such a simpleton. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 03:27 PM (8jYMc) 48
I'm conservative and I like her. A Lot. Was disappointed, went to Barnes and Noble, bought my copy of Guilty. No sneering or anything. Pure hugs, kisses and thanks for your dough. Wonderwarthog, I think I've done well enough for myself, and I don't think Ann could buy and sell me very easily. But anyone could claim anything on the internet, so I probably should just ignore your worship of her.
George Soros could buy and sell Ann Coulter, by your logic, right? Who cares? I should note that I honestly don't think Ann is a firebrand or all that aggressive on liberalism. She is very rough and funny-ish in a certain way that is utterly uncompelling to anyone who isn't already a convert. She ignores all the really interesting arguments, and I think she gives the left a pass... on purpose, because she knows she's the strawman used in place of an actual aggressive and intelligent right... what the MSM actually fears. She is obviously completely right about media bias, but she will convince few people of its existence. That's because nearly everyone reading her book is already on our side... and so worn out from sifting through the MSM's garbage they seek out something they know won't offend them. Just like a hippy reading the NYT... they already know what they will find. It's not like the NYT is actually making a dent with its bias with that hippy. I don't begrudge Ann the hard work that got her wealth and success. I also don't really care. She's not relevant in the national discussion aside from being a huge assist to the left whenever they want to convince the middle that the right is stuffed with assholes. The politicial she's raised the most money for? JOHN EDWARDS. Anyone who didn't know that is living in a cave. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 03:44 PM (8jYMc) 51

I call bullshit.
All you holier-than-thou types can drop this "I didn't support McCain but I voted for Palin" posturing. If you voted for the latter, you voted for the former, in which case you supported them both. Don't be coy. You either supported McCain/Palin with your vote, or you didn't. You either worked for that ticket, or you didn't. You either donated to the campaign, or you didn't. Parsing this is nonsense. That's the way it works. You might like to think that you can have it both ways, but you can't. I supported McCain/Palin, because I could either do so or stay home and be a petulant, smug, pouting, tiresome bitch. Some folks on this board know that my anti-McCain credentials are solid, I made my case when it mattered. But when the convention came, I got in the game. You Veruca Salt "too proud to vote" types don't cut much ice with me. I don't like Ann Coulter because she's obnoxious, since you asked. I don't tend to like obnoxious people. Wonderwarthog, I mean so disrespect, but you should be busier if you are unemployed. Being successful often means having a lot more control over how you spend your time (I am VERY busy sometimes, but I can take as much time as I want to goof off if I want).
There's nothing dishonorable about being un between jobs, so long as you keep trying your best to find work and meet your needs. As to my long comment, it's not even close to a screed. You're the one insulting me, remember? I'm just responding to and answering your side of the discussion. Apparently, I'm just supposed to let you win? Sorry. Adam, I don't recall saying Ann wasn't conservative. She's just a useful idiot of the left. Do you really think John Edwards was unhappy to be called a faggot by Ann? It enabled him to completely ignore the salient points brough up by the superior minds out there. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 03:57 PM (8jYMc) 57
Meh. I've got mixed feelings on Coulter. She's occasionally unhelpful, but I sure wish that conservative pundits were more willing to play rough with the left. railwriter, this election was totally about turnout, so Obama was basically elected by people who refused to come out and vote for Mccain. I voted for Mccain, but I think it's starting to look like the non-voters had a great idea.
All this bullshit Obama is going to pull on this country, specically the bailout, is going to be proven foolish. Mccain would have done basically the same crap as Obama, and now the GOP has a chance to be opposed to stupid ideas. Obama's people aren'ty stupid and will tie the bailout to things the GOP wants and can't get otherwise. But in the end, the bailout will be owned by Obama. I'm glad. And really, after all the immigration and anti-free speech nonsense, voting for Mccain truly was a pain in the ass for me. Posted by: Shill at January 06, 2009 04:02 PM (8jYMc) 60

I'm told that by some political "new math," the non-voters may have accomplished something worth more than those who put their shoulder to the wheel, but I don't buy it. Wonder,
Obviously you aren't even really trying when you just repeat the exact same silly trolls (that aren't even slightly related to anyone's points) over and over again. But from my point of view (the one that matters), you are just admitting you have no response whatsoever for my points when you repeat the same irrelevant troll. I don't know why I'd be bitter at Ann; I bet it's very difficult to keep up her boring act just to make a buck. You do seem to be the expert at being bitter, though. Ronster, you are both right that my recall is poor and that I claimed Ann was a fraudulent Conservative, then later said I don't recall claiming she wasn't conservative. I didn't lie or anything, I just didn't remember saying that. I do sincerely doubt she is at all interested in promoting conservatism. I mean, if she is really trying to do that, then she's much dumber than I think she is. That's not a point I could prove, and there is no reason for me to try to argue something that is just in my gut, but that's what I think. When you reach my age, I hope you have better recall than I do, as I drive a lot of people at my office nuts forgetting what I said a few minutes ago. Why are you guys all so upset about my views of Ann? Because you aren't really interested in arguments... just people. You think conservatism is a team, and Ann is a star player. You completely miss the point. Ann can keep pulling these stunts forever, and she will, I guess. I will keep being annoyed at it (just as sincere liberals are tired of Al Sharpton), but if it weren't Ann, I realize someone else would be doing it. Maybe this depression thing won't be so bad after all. After watching the exchanges above, how I wish we had all just stuck to "I'd hit it." Posted by: comatus at January 06, 2009 04:49 PM (CMi/T) 78
74- And boy, do I love lawyers! The reason I'm unemployed is because I pointed out the high employee turnover in our organization during a general staff meeting. The HR director is also the acting assistant city manager and also, the city attorney. Not the brightest career move, on my part. After that my days were numbered. BTW, he was short and fancied himself quite the wit, like ol' Shrill. Posted by: WonderWartHog at January 06, 2009 04:51 PM (LVT6e) 79
I don't really like Ann Coulter, either. And it's not just because she's hotter than me. Lots hotter than me....the bitch... But really, it's because she's obnoxious and a mirror image of obnoxious leftists, whom I also despise. I do think she's smart, though. And that's why she's made a great living doing what she does. I don't begrudge it to her. Everyone likes something different. I'd do--I mean listen to--Dennis Miller any day, though. Posted by: April at January 06, 2009 04:52 PM (2B3NC) 80
A Plover, you might be right. I can be pretty forceful to people, but that's just the nature of the business.
I don't think I've been a prick to you or anyone else on here in this thread. I have responded to assholes by treating them as children, but that's not really rude, is it? You're the one calling me names instead of making arguments... I haven't done that. Are you sure you aren't just mad at me because I don't worship Ann Coulter? Why are there so many people for whom politics is just a vehicle to express worship of their stars? People like that are just like the idiots who worship Tina Fey, Ludacris, and Alec Baldwin. Just in love with celeb heroes. Look at Warthog... he actually thinks the amount of fame Ann Coulter has is a relevant argument... or that it bothers me that she's a bigger fish than me (in a completely different pond than I swim in). The thing about Ann Coulter is that she is a caricature. And I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing. Caricatures play a valuable role, because they draw lots of attention, and they say things that many people won't (because they are polite) but that many people agree with. Or they force points into the political dialogue that some people wouldn't have thought about otherwise, had some brash loudmouth not mentioned it in public. She knows she's a caricature. And she's perfect at it, and even though I don't like to listen to her, or any of the others like Colmes or Limbaugh or Franken, she puts the information out there and we filter out what we can use.
There. That's what I got from a communication degree in political rhetoric. Posted by: April at January 06, 2009 07:13 PM (ETq1m) 91

I like some of what Coulter says, and some of it rankles me. Same for the usual talk radio standards: Savage (often VERY annoying), Hannity (Sanitary napkin w/hair gel), Colmes (eat shit,Alan), Limbaugh (A Star: a ball of hot gases), Krauthammer and the Ususal Fox suspects...(too damn Washingtonian for me).
None of the usual people really appeal to me. I prefered JD Hayworth, with reservations, Glenn Beck, again with reservations, JC Watts, Ken Hamblin who seems to have fallen out of favor for some reason. I guess I think anyone gets too large they get full of shit. Coutlter bears that mark nicely. I actually prefer her writings to her hyperbolic tv appearances. And shill can like my cat's squeakhole. Larry Elder parted ways with KABC out here on Dec 12. I really miss his show, he was a classy guy who could debate with the best. His drivetime spot has been taken by polesmoker Al Rantel, who still calls himself a "Reagan Conservative" even though he's got the tingles for Obama and he's gone Andrew Sullivan on us. I couldn't take that whiney tone even when I agreed with him. Posted by: kbdabear at January 06, 2009 09:33 PM (miw86) 107

I liked Larry Elder and I would like to see the black guys from Core, the Innises, Armstrong Williams, Thomas Sowells, and a number of other outside the mainstream conservatives.
I still wonder what happened to drop Ken Hamblin off the radar a couple or three years ago. One day he's on my local radio station and the next, poof, he's goner than Elvis...no explanations. That pissed me off. Hamblin never pulle dpunches but id it with an ease and style that didn't kick you in the nuts even when he was kicking some lefties in the nuts...very reasoned in his approach, versus screaming nutbar Savage. He really gets on my last frigging nerve sometimes. Just my $.02. Posted by: Enter sandman at January 06, 2009 09:42 PM (zxaA2) Posted by: Enter sandman at January 06, 2009 09:49 PM (zxaA2) 111
