Awesome: Senate Rejects Burris

Now this is getting fun.

(CNN) – The secretary of the U.S. Senate on Monday rejected the certificiate of appointment for Roland Burris, named by Illinois' controversial governor to fill Barack Obama's Senate seat, according to an aide to the secretary.

The aide said Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson rejected Burris' appointment because it does not conform with the Senate rule requiring that the secretary of state — in this case, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White — must sign the certificate of appointment along with the governor.

White has declined to sign the certificate, siding with some Senate Democrats who say Burris should not be seated because of the cloud over Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who is accused of trying to sell Obama's Senate seat.

According to a Democratic source and a Democratic Senate leadership aide, without the signed certificate Burris will be denied access to the Senate floor.

So what's a shameless publicity hound and raging egoist to do?

Show up anyway, of course.

And then the super double fun begins.

1 All we need now is for Dick Cheney, President of the Senate, to show up at the Senate tomorrow for a look-see and about three tubs of freshly popped popcorn.

There are a number of black leaders in Chicago who are getting amped up about this and why won't the Dems seat Roland. There was a rally for Burris (put on by Burris and I think Bobby Rush) in Chicago yesterday. This could turn into a real mess for the Dums. Of course if it does it won't be reported as such. Speaking of that what's happened to Rahm? Has he fallen off the face of the earth? Has Pradva decided to not distract the messiah with questions about Rahm? Right after the messiah's report, in which he cleared himself, that story just went away.

It will have to be.  It's history.  Even the MSM will cover it like they do every other bloody train wreck.  Burris will have a huge crowd of media around him.

My prediction - I think with the race thing in the air Reid will seat him and welcome him with open arms to the cheers of a united democratic senate.  The MSM will say nothing of Blago and the world will forget.  They'll treat the whole mess like a paperwork snafu.

But I am popping popcorn,  just in case.

Burris must be the only politician from IL that Fitzgerald doesn't have on tape.  He's either the only honest politician from IL or a complete limp dick.  I'm betting on the latter.

I wouldn't bet against Fitzgerald.

CHICAGO -- A federal judge has given prosecutors an additional three months to obtain an indictment in Gov. Rod Blagojevich's corruption case.

Chief Judge James Holderman granted the extension Monday, saying the case against Blagojevich is too complex to expect prosecutors to obtain an indictment by a Jan. 7 deadline. He set an April 7 deadline instead.

Google has purged lots of stuff that's embarrassing to Democrats from their site. They're a bunch of Stalinists.

I'll never forget one time Johnny Carson had Lester Maddox on his show. Johnny confronted Lester, showing him pictures of him handing out axe handles. Lester gently chided Johnny, explaining his criticism was all wrong because they were pick handles, not axe handles. The conversation kinda went like [paraphrasing] "well you can see, Johnny, they falsely accused me of handing out axe handles. Look close, those are pick handles. An axe handle is skinnier and has a slot in the end of it while a pick handle is bigger at the end and doesn't have a slot". Much chuckling ensued.

BTW -- the common belief is that Lester Maddox was only a restaurant owner, though he owned the hardware store that supplied the axe handles. The left (Soros) is re-writing history on the internet while we hold our shriveled dicks in our hands.

The left has always rewritten history. They rewrote it about the Russian Revolution, the famines, the purges, the widespread infiltration of Stalins' agents into out government. They are still rewrtting history at so the Spanish Civil War and the International Brigades -- they were horrible. They rewrote the history on McCarthy, etc. And they purge a lot of the info about the Weathermen and other terrorist groups in the past few years. f

My guess is Blago is threatening more of the same if he doesn't get a light sentence with a plasma TV and room service.  You know, he's a Democrat and corrupt as hell, but lemme just say this:

90 "The US Constitution overrules the bullshit state technicality. The Senate can refuse to seat Burris only if he is under 30, not a US citizen, or not an Illinois resident."

So says Powell v. McCormack, not the the US Constitution itself, which makes each house of Congress the judge of its own returns and qualifications, setting up a fight between the courts and the Senate if Reid wants to push this.  Moreover, it's not state law that the Secretary of the Senate is relying on and controlled by here: it's the Rules of the Senate, again adopted pursuant to Article I of the federal constitution (in 1789: the Senate as a continuing body has only adopted its rules once, while the House adopts its rules at the opening of each new Congress).

95 When did Burris become an inauthentic black man? Did they give his authenticity to Colin Powell?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at January 05, 2009 08:23 PM (yIy7z)

96 "Franken has no certificate until the court cases are over--yet Reid is going to seat him anyway. But Burris can't be seated without a certificate."

The curious vanity and assumption here, on the part of the media as well as obviously Reid himself, is that Harry Reid can unilaterally make such decisions, despite the fact that 99% of the time the Senate operates by unanimous consent.  Moreover, Harry Reid isn't the presiding officer of the Senate.  Until January 20, Dick Cheney is.  Cheney will be in the chair tomorrow unless he breaks with tradition for the opening day of a new Congress, and I'll be very interested to see what role he plays in all this.

97 Looks like there are still some Jim Crow laws on the books...Harry didn't want Burris to enter the "Whites Only" entrance to the Senate Chamber...Kleagle Byrd was waiting in the background with his "formal attire" on...

98 God, I hope that the DCCircus is SO rediculous over the next two years that no decent American would vote for a Dem in '10.  If it is just moderately rediculous, though, the media can cover up for them.  I think that the Dems are going to have some bloody and public feuds over the direction of the party/country, which will be fabulous.

Posted by: In Exile at January 05, 2009 08:51 PM (Dw6L6)

99 Keep it up Burris. The Senators are aghast at the prospect of actually having to desegregate after all these years. Barry didn't count. This guy will cheapen and embarrass the Senate. Hahaha. Suck it Senators.

Posted by: Vincent Van Moe at January 05, 2009 08:51 PM (S7zPk)

100 This guy will cheapen and embarrass the Senate. Hahaha.

I don't think that's possible.  The Senate already had Dodd, Stevens, Kennedy, Boxer...  hell, I could go on and on.  It would take an avowed klansman Nazi to embarrass the Senate at this point.

103     "I don't know why blacks have been boycotting serving in the senate all these years of Donk control, but it's been tradion for a long time....stop fucking laughing!"

Posted by: herr reid at January 05, 2009 09:15 PM (N/I+F)

104 There doesn't really seem to be any reason to deny Burris. Am I missing something here?

Posted by: Iggey Schnetz at January 05, 2009 09:19 PM (stPC5)

105 Why is it that I see Harry Reid doing a "Blazing Saddles" scene in the Senate over the seating of  Burris..

Harry - Oh, boys! Lookee what I got heyuh.
Burris - Hey, where the white women at?

Posted by: Buck Naked - Pron Star at January 05, 2009 09:42 PM (utes0)

106 Hmmm.

If I were Burris, and I'm glad I'm not because anybody who would try to convict a known innocent man of murder deserves to have fire ants shoved up his ass, I'd have the media there when I go through the doors to the Senate.

And if they blocked the doors I'd simply stand there while they closed the doors in my face.

And let -that- be the news of the day.

Posted by: memomachine at January 05, 2009 11:40 PM (XNKxF)

107 96 "Franken has no certificate until the court cases are over--yet Reid is going to seat him anyway. But Burris can't be seated without a certificate."

The best thing the GOP can do now is vote to seat Burris. Let Dingy Harry sweat the anger of the CBC and the rest of the black community. You didn't think the race card would go away with the ascension of The One, did you?

They won't seat a brother without certification, but they're going to seat Franken, a JOOOOO.... that'll go over big with the rabble rousers.

When the turd hits the blades, you can count on the DemSM developing sudden amnesia as to which party controls Congress, and it'll be "name that party" with Reid as well.
