Worst Election Ever: State Board to Certify Franken Victory Tomorrow

Stuart Smalley goes to Washington:

A state election board on Monday will announce Democrat Al Franken as the winner of the Minnesota Senate race, defeating Republican incumbant Norm Coleman, state officials told CNN Sunday.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie told CNN the canvassing board on Monday will confirm that Franken won the race by a 225-vote margin.

It might go to the courts. Though I'd imagine Coleman realizes Republicans don't win election fights, and might just bow out.

Either way, it's over. We officially got our asses kicked.

That's 59 votes, assuming they keep Liebs with them on filibusters. Probably more, consistently, when you factor in the Maine Sisters and Spector and McCain.

Shit, I was just trying to get a little PR, you know give my dying 'comedy' career a little jump start.

I told my agent this was a bad idea but he said, 'Al, there's no chance you'll win. We'll get another book deal out of this and maybe an internet radio show'.  That's all I wanted, to recoup a little of the charity Air America money I lost out on.

Now I actually have to go and be a Senator?  From Minnesota? Sure I grew up here but I haven't live her in like 30 years. What the fuck do I know about Minnesota?

Sigh.

But, now Limbaugh can mention Franken by name and attack him since he is a public official. He ignored Smalley when he was writing books about him, so as to not give him free publicity. And O'Reilly learned not to do so only after that failed lawsuit in 2004 catapaulted Franken to hero status in the moonbat world.

61 We need to get over it. People, we all know they're parasites. By nature, they are despicable, worthless blood-sucking creatures. They do anything to win. They have an advantage there, especially when they promise each of our neighbors presents if they are empowered. While you and I know that present comes through the seizure of our hard-earned money, the Leftist parasite provides a compelling myth for our neighbor to believe in, communicated thanks to our equally parasitic news media.

But here's the bitch: Without us, the parasite dies. They have no creativity, no productive originality, and certainly no work ethic. They need us to live off of through their redistributive program. If we deprive them of our gifts, they have nothing to give our lazy-assed neighbors, and when that happens, the parasite's survival is in jeopardy.

We need to cause this to happen now, not when the parasite can compel us to work through much more vigorous means (aka work camps). We need to starve the beast, let the Federal Government languish without funds to redistribute and cause our neighbors to throw them out when the presents stop showing up. It's time.

72 What are the rules for a Constitutional Convention

According to Article 5, "The Congress, ..., on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments"

It would require the request to Congress from the Legislatures from 34 of the 50 States to Congress. Once that Convention has been called, however, it is under no obligation to limit itself to the subject matter(s) that caused the Convention to be called together in the first place. They could rewrite the Constitution from "We The People" to Amendment XXVII, and it would be legal as church on Sunday.

92 erik/83: Per "happening now", some thoughts:

- buy from your friends who you know share your values. while I work in a large city, i live in a small town and I know who's a leftard and who's a conservative businessman. Already enough of us are boycotting our local leftard that he's feeling the pressure. Let him pray Obama will save him because we won't. It's time to choose sides and let the wrong side experience retributive justice.
- pay off the credit cards and have zero debt as soon as you can. stop falling prey to debt since it gives others leverage over you.
- understand the dollar is worthless if Obama borrows additional trillions. Shift your investments to less correlated foreign ETFs and gold.
- have employees? fire some and go as lean as you can. fire the most progressive/liberal ones (they're easy to find: they're the ones most likely to slack off or steal from you) and tell them it's ok, you're just giving them CHANGE. seriously though, it's time to get lean and you don't need liberal dead weight.
- buy things Obama won't like, like that Ruger or Glock you've always wanted. We need to keep those industries around, and we certainly need to stock up before they're verboten.

In otherwords, make yourself lean, debt-free as soon as possible, and focus every damn dollar on either supporting people who share your value structure, or placing it beyond the parasites hands. We have to starve this beast now, and the only way I'm aware of is by keeping the product of our labor and creativity out of their hands.

By "producing" you mean "inbreeding," right?

Go ahead, you all try and live in your insular little worlds where each of you dimwitted pansies can pretend he's king.  It's that short-sighted, small minded view that helped GWB and his cronies drive this country to the brink of disaster.  Of course, you have your blinders on so tight that you can't see your dependence on those who develop the things which you profess to "produce."

You're not the "producers," you're the consumers.

101 shoey - progressive doesn't have to mean liberal!! it means FORWARD MOVING. Republicans are forward moving, too - there are plenty of exciting, young, bright, popular members on our side of the aisle too. We did win a few close races - but it was mostly our younger, more dynamic candidates who won. Not the old white guys ... which have been our stock in trade since I was a kid. We need to show the rest of the world that we are looking to the future, not backwards; the left has done a  good job painting us as basically yearning for a return to pre-civil rights times, and of course that is simply ridiculous.

We need to show that we are DYNAMIC, exciting, and interesting - that we have REAL mavericks (just calling an old white rich dude a maverick doesn't make him one - that was a HUGE and cynical mistake that, again, old white leadership made). We need more women, we need to reach out to the enormous conservative gay movement, we need to embrace intelligentsia more - all the conservative college students who are not "young republican" squares and all the faculty members who are afraid to show their political leanings because they'll not be taken seriously by their colleagues. We need to give them a party that they can feel proud of being part of, and something that makes them look good - not like a joke.

110 ok, maybe the conservative gay movement isn't enormous ... but in an age of identity politics, i bet there are THOUSANDS of gays who WOULD be part of the GOP if they knew that we saw them as equal Americans and worthy of standing under the same flag as the rest of us. The demorats fawn all over them - we don't need to do that, just stop using the F-- word and maybe treat them like human beings. Maybe if our politicians came out against hate crimes just as the democrats do, that would be a good start. We are just as much - in fact, probably MORE - dedicated to human rights and civil rights as the "left" and we need to step up and show that.

116 and just a p.s...  for those that study money supply (and particularly, M2), the practice of not spending, yet not keeping your money in checking or savings accounts seriously screws with the beast. Per the wikilords:

M2: M1 + savings deposits, time deposits less than $100,000 and money market deposit accounts for individuals. M2 represents money and "close substitutes" for money. [9] M2 is a key economic indicator used to forecast inflation.

Helicopter Ben has no clue where he's at now as he's in hard-core outlier territory. Keep your checking and savings accounts as low as possible, and keep scraping off excesses and shifting them to gold or foreign ETFs (being mindful to avoid economies that will also tank with the US). By doing so, the Fed has nowhere to run and our capacity to float additional trillions in debt obligations will fail. This economy has to reconcile, yet GWBush took the contagin from Fannie & Freddie (with a little help from OPEC friends) and placed the beast in the Treasuries, and Obama seeks to magnify that risk by piling on $3+ trillion of new obligations ($1 trillion in stimulus, $1 trillion in state budget demands, and a minimum of $1 trillion in governmental employee pension obligations, and this ignores a bankrupt social security and Medicare).

As a risk manager, I advocate taking one's lumps as early and often as possible. It's when you avoid them and are forced to take all at once, with interest and penalties, that you can't survive the pain. If the United States is to have any chance at survival, we need to call an end to this ponzi scheme and take our lumps now. It's time to let the brazen progressivists experience the full impact of an economy that only values those that produce, and gives those incapable of such contribution the full impact of their ideology: isolation, desolation, starvation and eradication.

I've never claimed to be super smart or successful. The thing is, it's relative.  Compared to the seperatist-addled freedom haters on here I only appear super smart and successful.

In the real world I am a south Minneapolis raised, union member, father of 4 who is not willing to fuck my neighbors over just because, if I don't, they may benefit from being a member of my community and society.

Face it you all: as middle class worker types you are more dependent on the social services and Government programs than the elitist right wingers that you all for some reason keep protecting.  Do you not see that it is your wealth that is constantly being redistributed to them?  When you pull a double or pick up OT to make some extra coin- that money does not end up in MY pocket.  Check Bill O'Reilly's wallet.  Or Limbaugh's overseas account.  That's where the precious nickles and dimes from your "producing" are sitting.

120 Moby, I can honestly say that I have never voted for any candidate who was not a Republican or a decline-to-state (not AIP) Independent in every single general American election since I turned 18 in 1958.

I had parents who were of the labor movement, but realized early on that the short-sightedness and selfishness of the left was leaving most hard-working Americans - those of us who actually succeeded instead of just blaming those who were successful - out in the cold.

I think I fit every bit of the definition of a Conservative, and am proud to be a Republican and will never apologize to it. I have a  lot of problems with how the party has been run, and my eyes were really opened to this when I tried to marry a black woman in 1962 and was denied a license; we had to go to another state to get married. I realized then that we were missing a big opportunity by being too insular, and this suspicion has grown for more than 40 years. My wife is not especially interested in politics, unfortunately, although I've tried to get her interested. She does come to rallies and things like that, and our kids have been politically active - all within the GOP and related organizations - since they were in high school.

You don't need to impugn me to get your point across. You think I'm too left-leaning to be a member of this party, just because I criticise party leadership. Typical! This, again, is why we are screwed in a country that will be increasingly multicultural and multi-whatever else.

122 Uhm, fellas, let's not forget that as bad as the Dems are they're not pushing a single bail-out, pull-out, or put-on that someone in the Republican party hasn't argued for just as fervently.  McCain favored the wall street bail out.  Hell, he staked his campaing on it.  There were a whole passel of pro amnesty GOP pols, and still are.  (Including Plain)  A fair number in the Republican fold were wobbly in Iraq before it was fashionable to wobbly.  Don't forget McCain and Graham during the torture crapola.  Not one GOP pol has had the guts to call for Jack Murtha's head.  Denny Hastert was more than happy to lend cold cash Jefferson a helping hand.  Arlen spector was just cozying up to Assad himself last week.  Orrin hatch is still composing songs in honor of Ted Kennedy. Saxby Chambliss was more than happy to pull the rug out out from under the drill here drill now crowd.  And don't even get me started on Katheleen Parker and Chris Buckley and David Frum and Charles Krauthamer and his new and innovative tax schemes. The reason the folk can't figure out whether the Dems or the Repubs are in control is because the Repubs have been desperate to make sure no one can tell the difference between a Repub and a Dem.  Fix that and you have a chance.  Complain about the electorate and the news folk and you get what you deserve...namely more of Saxby and Orrin and Arlen and Denny and Krauthamer and the rest.  If the Repubs don't give their party an enema it is going to bloat up and die.  The nation will find a way to survive.

139 brett/94: Unlike Bush and other pathetic neocons, my kind doesn't play defense. We enjoy the hunt and first on our list is useless parasites who have screwed up what once was a great nation. Please keep up those posts.

In many respects, the Gaza analog is appropriate here. The producers in our economy have better things to do than intervene in politics. They tolerate great antagonization and go to extreme ends to just live their normal lives. But when you cross that threshold, your bivariate model suddenly shifts: the host of the parasites now becomes the relentless hunter. Just as Israel finally tired of suffering the daily missiles and the weekly injuries and deaths, critical mass occurred and retributive justice has "come home to roost" on the parasitic Palestinians.

Your kind may not be treated well through this process of correction. You've harmed good and decent people for too long, and I'm afraid you may find no one who will speak in your defense. It may be that the sole purpose of your existence is to serve as a warning to others. Be mindful of the continued harm you cause as a useless parasite, and should you have the capacity to change, I suggest you entertain it now. Too many don't recognize the capacity for our current political and economic situation to radicalize, and subsequently think the old rules will continue to apply. Unfortunately that's just not the case anymore. Judgment, a concept foreign to most liberals, is just around the corner.

145 Shoey, I think she's interesting but she was the wrong choice for VP. We have a LOT of other women who are more appropriate, if it had to be a woman, and we have a number of excellent minority members in state legislatures if the eminence grises thought that was necessary. Just my opinion though. Maybe Palin would have been good later on - I don't know enough about her to say, really. I got a really good vibe from her at first and thought with her charisma she was great ... but then she opened her mouth and the left just dogpiled on her and she never really got a fair shake.

And YES of course the right doesn't hate the gays. But everyone else thinks we do, because of a few bigmouths, and because the gay-bashers are invariably Republican and our politicians can't shut them up before they proudly pronounce that to everyone.

159 shoey, kennedy is an even bigger joke than the left could have imagined Palin to be. just because she was the wrong choice doesn't make her a joke. I think she's good at her job, certainly. from what I read it seemed she was well-supported at home. But the rest of the country - and the rest of the party - doesn't share the same demographics and opinions as Alaska.

@151 - if I lived in California I would have voted "YES on 8" too. Just because you think gays are human beings and not deserving of being killed is no reason to adjust the entire definition of marriage. I'm not going to use some childish slippery slope argument, because the "what's next, kids marrying trees" soundbites made the right look stupid. We're not stupid. The gays shouldn't be marrying when you have all the same rights with domestic partnerships. I think the "liberals" of California realized that. We don't have to be able to vote no on prop 8 simply to see them as a worthy tool inside of the GOP ... the fact is it's got to be about strategy and making our tent bigger, as McCain said several times. Unfortunately the people who advised him didn't have his common sense.

166 Drew, what's with the anger?  Seriously.

Are we the "other" or are you venting for some personal reason?

I'm not really angry.  In all honesty.  But I can see how I come off that way.  That's not really my intent, but, I don't really care if you think I'm angry.  Why?  I feel that I've right to be after what's been done to my country for the last 8 years.

As far as you being the "other" I suppose I think you are.  I'm not happy about that, but everywhere I look Repubs are drawing a huge line in the sand, circling the wagons, refusing to be open to work with this upcoming system and see how it may be effective.  I don't want you to be the other, but I don't know that I really have any other choice?

Not one repub I know has yet to agree to sit and talk about issues and bat around ideas of how we can all be happy and try to reach some sort of resolution.  Not one.

How many of you on here have offered that open-mindedness?  None that I've seen.  Instead it's all, "Let's take our ball and go home.  We'll be back in four years and we'll be fighting even dirtier than ever before!  In the meantime, let's lay here passively blocking the road so that nothing can be accomplished.  That way we win!"

Do you think this is a game?

169 Ok... off the "hunt the troll" rant for now... #139 has been building up and having had to take vacation time hunting down some eastern European hackers for work, I'm irritated and cranky.

Pete McCaskey, glad to see your comments. Don't lurk anymore - this is a full contact sport on ace, but it's a meaningful one and the perspective you bring to the discussion is a valuable one. (I hate to say it but even the progressivist trolls here have their value in communicating their ever-limited, increasingly tired redistributionistic philosophy). John Milton wrote in his defense against the King of England's effort to ban printing presses that "truth and falsehood must be permitted to grapple so that truth may be found."

A parallel to that thought is that of critical theory. The world of policy debate  embraced critical theory in the early 1990s, helping them address framework problems. Those are the kinds of problems that occur when you're stuck in a certain way of seeing things, and as long as you continue to see things that way, you can never overcome them. Critical theory uses something called radicalization that embraces extreme positions which are almost always untenable, but cause us to discover our current framework isn't true. It's like that moment in the Matrix where we're forced to reconcile with the fact that the reality we live within simply isn't true. Radicalization is a methodology where you shift to an extreme position - say you advocate a pure Objectivist model ala Ayn Rand and apply it to the current political situation. While we'd expect it to have a lot of problems, the process of radicalization expands our awareness and allows us to question assumptions in the status quo that we've built upon, but probably should have challenged before we did so. In that respect, it allows us to question areas of current society that may be wrong and have contributed to our existing problems.

I love Ace of Spades in the fact that the people who comment here don't hesitate for a moment to throw out their absolutist position. There's real passion and advocacy here, but through that transformative process, truth (as best as we can ever hope for) is pursued and a close approximate found.

Actually, the "optimal phrase" was: "Libs are not trying to create some utopian world"

Don't be lazy.  Read the entire sentence and cite the entire quote.  Puling from context just looks trivial and dastardly.  I know this is reeaaallll difficult, but try something new:  listen to what someone who has a different opinion from your own is actually saying.

That's what the minimum wage is for!  Slavery is declassé - it shows you can't afford to pay your workers, like illegal immigrants; I mean - sure - you could do it, but if I'm going to pay below minimum wage, I might as well shop at Old Navy or, godforbid, Jos. A. It was less than a year ago, Dude.

Posted by: eman at January 05, 2009 02:14 AM (9jESx)

211 #198/eman: I'm curious... what is a slave?

My neighbor pays no Federal nor state income taxes. As an autobody repair mechanic who makes less than $40K/year, he has a nice wall-mounted HDTV flat-screen, two snowmachines, two ATVs, three pickup trucks and numerous other toys. I cannot afford his toys because I elect to set aside money from my paycheck for college savings for my children, for my own healthcare, and for the retirement of my wife and myself.

My neighbor voted for Obama. Obama promised him "free healthcare, great retirement and affordable college" for his children. My neighbor has all the toys I don't have, yet has chosen not to save for these things he desires (healthcare, education, retirement). I'm saving for these things, yet I'm also told I must be punished via taxes, and worse yet, I must buy these things for my neighbor. Yet I still don't have the damn HDTV (mine is a lousy 25"), I don't have the ATV nor any of the other toys he has. Yet I am told I must give half of my paycheck to Barack Obama so that he may redistribute it to my neighbor who lives the life of excess, so that he too can attain the things I've paid for, as he was too busy buying toys.

So back to my original question: who is the slave in our economy?

Posted by: Brett at January 05, 2009 02:33 AM (ChNUu)

231 I would refuse to believe that Drew and Brett are actually real libs, but I've gotten in too many arguments with libs to doubt it anymore.

Drew, Brett, I would reccomend you pursue a basic course of economics, history, and logic before attempting debate. Furthermore, I would recommend you two attempt civility, and not descend into the realm of the ad hominem.

Let's try. I will now civilly argue a point, citing references and using a rational and logical progression of argumentation.

1. The Republican Party was formed to end the institution of slavery.
2. Following the Civil War, it was Republicans who passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution.
3. The Republican Party never stood in opposition to civil rights at any time in its entire history. To state otherwise is a blatant lie. In fact, Republicans in Congress supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act in much higher numbers then the Democrats.
4. The Democratic Party was the birthplace of the KKK. The KKK functioned as the armed wing of the Party, allowing them ironclad control of the Southern states during the period from around 1880-1960.
5. Woodrow Wilson was a fervent admirer of the KKK who resegregated the federal government following the Republican desegregation of the same.
6. Senator Robert Byrd is a former KKK member and third in line to the presidency. While I appreciate the irony of a former Klansman standing third in line behind a black man, it makes a somewhat comical scene.

From the end of Wilson's presidency you will find that no American president can be legitimately called anti-civil rights, for all contributed in some way to the eventual victory in that area. All except FDR. FDR amassed more executive power then any President before or since, yet his policies, specifically the National Recovery Act, were designed to help his base, not the black people of the United States. In fact, many black groups said that the NRA was short for Negro Run Around or Negroes Robbed Again. During his unprecedented stay in office, FDR made no moves to end segregation, because his own party would have blocked him.

In the post 60s era, the Democratic party has claimed the mantle of champion of the minorities, and especially of the black people of this country. However, the Johnsonian model of the welfare state is more then anything else responsible for the destruction of the black family and the high levels of poverty among black people today. Furthermore, the Democratic party platform still claims that non-whites are inferior. Now it is the condescending soft bigotry of low expectations rather then Bull Connor's firehose, but the results have been far more destructive. The black community, which remained stalwart through the antebellum period of Democratic slavery, then strong through the postbellum Democratic KKK period of opression, has finally been eroded by the handouts, corruption, and avarice of the modern Democratic Party.

For the record I don't think you can really argue that either party is racist at this point. The fact is however, that the Republican Party has been committed to equality since it's founding, while the Democratic Party has been painfully slow to even come as far as it has. One of my great hopes for Obama is that he can do something no other American President to date could have really done: finally end the last vestige of racial preference in out society.

Do you want Barry to think that he is a typical Black person?

Accidentally calling Africa a country is a  minor mistake. Saying you've been to all fifty-seven states. How the fuck do you accidentally say that?

Most first graders wouldn't even make that mistake.

And remember Palin was the VP nominee not the current PE like Obama is.

Tell me Drew, do you actually know anything about the man you have just elected?

248 "So do you really believe that a (black) (half-black) man who was head of the Harvard Law Review doesn't know how many states there are in the Union, Blazer?"

No certainly not. A man with an Ivy league education would certainly know how many states there are in the union.

Now that trailer trash snow-joo Palin with her illegitimate kid's and 2nd grade education, I would expect that out of, but certainly not The One.

By the way, what did him being (black), (half-black) have anything to do with him being head of The Harvard Law Review? Do you believe that should be an unattainable rung on the ladder for a person of color? I mean after all he's a hardworking and intelligent man is'n't he?

And I thought we were the ones consumed by race.

Actually, as one of the gay people who regularly comment here, I've never had a problem with any of it. Then again, I'm a successful conservative who pulls my own weight and doesn't try to use my sexual orientation as a substitute for intelligence and competence.

Barney Fag is referred to as such because that's all he is; he's a pathetic little faggot whose only usefulness is in his minority status and sexual orientation. His argument that he needed to run a prostitution ring out of his apartment and to abuse his Congressional powers to do it because that's what gay people do only proves that point.

This, however, is not the major disaster, other than another communist in the Senate who will be there at least 6 years, because Coleman was just another liberal squishy Republican as well. We should look at this as an “opportunity” to start cleaning house.

317 Funny how Brett believes Obam is some super smart Harvard school kid but yet is too dumb to realize he is sitting in a racist church for 20 damn years.

318 How can you know someone for 20 years, then say "that is not the Rev. Wright I knew" when obviously the Rev. has been like that the entire time he knew him. That is not the Harvard geniuses I know.

Anyone have the short version on how this happenned?  How did we go from a several hundred vote lead to this?

What were the shenanigans?

320 I'm going full "Olberman" on Franken.

He's "Mister Franken", and he was "selected" to the office of Senator.

Not legitimate, and shouldn't be treated as such.

323 So Blago appoints Burris to the messiah's senate seat (which was perfectly legal) and the Dems say they won't seat him but, after a very dubious recount Chucky Schumer is demanding that Franken be seated immediately. Because in Chucky's words Al was the clear winner.

326 286 By the way, North Dallas Thirty, I think Thesher was being cool in his own way, but a good number are happy to have you aboard regardless.

He was, and no worries. If I demanded everyone like everything about me or I hated them, their families, their ancestors, and the ground on which they walked, I'd be......a liberal.

Conservativism is, at its core, realizing that there is more to the world than your ego.

I'm actually excited about this.  If anyone can help create a public backlash against democrats, this guy is it.  My only regret is that the Dems cuoldn't get a Filibuster, as I want them to have an administration where they can't blame anyone for their decisions.

Posted by: T. AKA Ricky Raw at January 05, 2009 11:33 AM (1QzMk)

328 Be wary everyone. Unfortunately this is a sign of much more pain to come. They will take this is as a sign that they can get away with it. And will try even harder next time. Any race in the future they view as "close" they will come in and stuff the ballot box to insure a "victory".

If you mean that they didn’t get their filibuster proof Senate they got that all the way back at the election WITHOUT Al the Fuckin’. Don’t forget that there are at least 4 or 5 Dems with R’s after their name who will vote with them on every issue. There are about 5 more R’s who will vote with them on half the issues. Coleman falls in that category.

331 Here in Texas, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson plans to run for Governor. Let's hope not. This will leave an empty seat from Texas and we cannot risk losing it to jack ass and let the Democrats get their 60 seats. Besides, Texas is doing great in regards to the rest of the country. We have low unemployment, mortgage crisis hasn't been much of a factor here, and more companies are setting up shop here. So why on earth would a Republican senator challenge our Republican Governor for his seat?

It would have been better if the Dems had ended up with 60 seats.  This way they can always clam such-and-such policy didn't work because they needed to get the Republicans to sign off on it.  In reality, it will be impossible for the Republican leadership to sustain a filibuster unless that's what the Democrats want.  So Dingy Harry gets to have his cake and eat it too.

We've come face to face with the worst case scenario.

333 By the way, I have absolutely no opinion on the Israel-Gaza conflict. Both sides are fucked up and wrong.

Make up your mind.

There's just something amazingly pathetic about someone crowing over Al Franken winning an election. That's like crowing over Pee Wee Herman winning a beauty contest for your side. You sure you want to claim him that vigorously?

336 We made fun of "Pete McCaskey" and called him a troll. Might as well call Bush a troll, as he's now saying the same thing, now that he can speak his mind and doesn't have to toe the party line so carefully any longer.

"But it's very important for our party not to narrow its focus, not to become so inward looking that we drive people away from a philosophy that is compassionate and decent and I --
my call for our party is to be open-minded about different people's opinions. We shouldn't have litmus tests whether or not you are a Republican.

And we should be open-minded about big issues like immigration reform. Because if they're viewed anti somebody, if the party is viewed as anti-immigrant, then
another fellow may say, well if they're against the immigrant, then they may be against me. We have to be a party FOR a better future."

apologies for the Huffington link, I can only get the quote in bits and pieces from Fox and it's spread out over 3 pages there.
