Maybe they should rebrand it Angel's Eve. It worked for Detroit, right?

Officials were also on guard against possible attacks after five sticks
of dynamite were left in a Paris department store just before Christmas
by a so-far unidentified group demanding a withdrawal of French troops
from Afghanistan.
Umm hello? Why the hell haven't we heard about this before? Is dynamite in department store very common in France or something? Posted by: Rocks at January 02, 2009 02:15 PM (Q1lie) Posted by: Rocks at January 02, 2009 02:16 PM (Q1lie) 7

So we have this, and Rachel Lucas has a post about England having emergency calls coming every 7 seconds during New Years. So my question is where are the reports about all the violence in America during New Years? I mean afterall, we are the violent bloody barbarians to the proper evolved Europeans. And if they have had this happen why then dammit there should be stories about entire towns wiped-out New Years Eve in the Good Ole USA. That's what we always have to hear isn't it? With our love of violence and guns and all that.

Hmmm...this sounds like an "opportunity" for the Detroit auto makers. Perhaps they can engineer a flame proof car? Or, if that's too hard (our engineers seem to be on autopilot) perhaps they can bring back the Chevette and sell it so cheap in France that if it's car-b-qued, well, they can just buy another!

This was all organized by the UAW in an attempt to improve auto sales. The pilot program was in France, but the first stateside rollout of the strategy will be in Detroit.

As always, the French presage the future of the nation below Canada. This is simply a brilliant Gallic gesture to demonstrate the way out for our domestic auto companies. Just think... if urban Obama youths managed to burn a few hundred cars nationwide every night, GM and Chrysler would have to produce cars to replace them! It's a perfect example of goverment creating jobs. We could even pay the Obama youths and provide the incendiaries... more work for the matchmakers!

I will point out that the current state of European car quality is pretty top notch. I rented a Peugeot 307 for two weeks in November, and it was a great ride. Great fit and finish. Same for, believe it or not, a Fiat I rented. But over xmas I rented a new PT Cruiser in the Bay Area, Calif... What a piece of shit. Like a sardine can with enamel and vacuformed plastic. The suspension of a brick. This is why the Not So Big Three are dying. And they ought to, if they can't get their act together and declare FUCKING BANKRUPTCY so they can reorganize. What depresses me is that it's getting so hard to tell the difference between France and the nation below Canada.
We've got guns (sorta), they have foie gras and truffles. At least they can eat as much fattening foie gras as they want. Try to carry a concealed firearm in most of our states and you go to jail. They burn cars, we burn public money. It's becoming a matter of taste, which place sucks more. "Please, Sir Lord Senator, may I have another $17 billion?" I'm not kidding when I say all the bad that's in France is coming over here. And none of the good, which for me is the food and architecture. Of course, they stopped building the good stuff a century ago, and the food is a holdover of tradition centuries old. You can't transplant that stuff. Look for the following to happen here... Now, every commercial for a foodstuff on French TV has a crawler at bottom of screen reminding, in a helpful nanny state way, to eat properly with the correct servings of fruit and veg. And in an illustration of our nanny state exporting itself, some law has been passed in France where virtually every restaurant is now compelled to be non-smoking. That wasn't true as late as 2006 or 2007. The West seems to be hell-bent upon becoming a dreary, hectoring, tasteless, bland stint in a waiting room, where you can't spit, sing, smoke, or stand where you want. Liberty is just a word, and an unfamiliar one. Posted by: George Orwell at January 02, 2009 03:15 PM (AZGON) 47

France? We're already there. Billy C. is running around like a distinguished elder statesman, according to every MSM outlet. It's as if that pesky episode about lying to a grand jury and impeachment and being disbarred in his home state never happened. See, we ARE France now. The baguette has been dans le four for decades now, baking in academia and the press. The victory of President Unicorn Flatulence is merely the golden scent of the bread emerging from the oven. I predict if Obastard gets some Prezidenshul nookie on the side and gets caught, he will be lauded for his progressive attitudes. If he lies under oath about anything, it will be the fault of the haters persecuting and prosecuting The Black Man, not Barry's fault. Gods can do no wrong. Especially Frenchified Gods.

When I read the article, it indicated that the "Police" had anticipated this violence, since it seems to happen every year. What did they do, run away and hide? Paris is not that big a city that you can torch 1100 cars and not one of them happen before a law enforcement weenie. btw, the use of the "M" word is totally banned, just like the "N" word. The new Fiat 500 got the big thumbs up from the Top Gear lads. It's a retro look of the 125 with modernities. Quite roomy inside and the sport versions are quite fast. Pretty much like what the Mini was before BMW fattened it. If Mercedes couldn't fix Chrysler, nothing can, even and especially that self-promoting blowhard Iacocca. Detroit should do an orderly wind-down by selling off desirable marquees and cars like the Corvette, Mustang, 300, CTS, and letting the rest fade off into AMC heaven. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid will find out that the new "green" cars they say we just want soooo much are already the domain of the REAL Big 3, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. OK maybe not in Greenwich Village but you get the point. The fact that French people: 1. Don't have access to firearms and/or 2. Don't feel compelled to protect their own property is very evident from stories like this. Car burnings have been going on for YEARS in France. And you NEVER hear about any of these 'youths' being shot or assaulted by homeowners trying to protect their family vehicle. Why can't we be more like France?
Sure, sit on a sidewalk eating some chef's booger wrapped in cheese, smoking skinny little "Clay Aiken Lite" cigarettes, and telling the world how the French invented sex. After being full of yourself drinking red radiator coolant from some Polish waiter's Trabant, you stumble onto the Metro and pass out in a car full of "youths". Upon your train stop, you awaken to find your pants around your ankles and your rectum smeared with Halal grease. You leave the train and stumble onto your block, "Rue le Jour" and find your beloved Citroen C3 burned to a crisp by some 48 year old "youth" of undetermined national origin. Melted beyond recognition is your favorite rubber attachment which you had hooked to the throttle body to give you the only orifice to stick your Jean-Pierre into without having it bitten into by an Ecstacy crazed British clubber. You stumble up the stairs to your drab flat, and fumble around for the bicycle pump... At least there's "Cecille" as you gaze at the bed... Yeh, French works for me.. The linked article saved the best line for last: "...while in Nantes, around 10 cars were torched although police in the western city said New Year's Eve had been 'pretty calm'." Sheesh. How bad are things over there? Well, a good day in North Philly is only 10 buildings falling down in one day after a crackhead sneezes. For those of you a bit older, I remember watching the '77 World Series on TV, and the Goodyear blimp was over Yankee Stadium and you could count about a dozen buildings burning in separate blocks in the South Bronx. That was pretty much a quiet night for the South Bronx in the Utopian Paradise of the Jimmah Carter years. If France were not a racist imperialist world power, then all its peoples would be dancing with unicorns. (sorry, spewed drink on keyboard at that thought). Isn't France supposed to be liberal paradise? The place to move to, to get away from the evil US? It must be that these alleged carbques are neocon plots designed to malign and libel the peaceful yoots of undisclosed origins and that we will see a demonstration any day now denouncing such perfidious zionist neocon plotting and scheming. It's France's version of bowl games.
