Castro's Cuba is 50

Staged celebrations, without Fidel though. Pity.

One good citizen, who grew up in the post-revolución paradise expresses her hopes about our new President:

I hope he gets rid of the blockade," 42-year-old Ana Luisa Mas said earlier at a Havana farmers market as she bought a pork leg for her family's New Year's celebration, referring to decades-old U.S. trade sanctions. "We are very hopeful that with Obama our relatives will be able to visit us more, and send us more money.

Whatever would she need money for, in Fidel's "rice-cooker" paradise? If I outlive that fucker (doubtful, since their health care system is teh awesome-er than ours), I will spit on his obit.

More over at Babalu Blog (natch).

6 Yeah, Fidel's great and all, but this whole "living in squalor" thing?  I could do without it.  Please, don't read that as a criticism of my supreme leader, because it isn't.  I'm still alive, right?  That must mean I'm getting as much food as I need.  Its just that sometimes, you know, I need to catch rats to get enough food.  But wonderful Fidel said that it is every Cuban's duty to catch rats, whether for food, or to clear the roads that Michael Moore walks on, so that he may see what a wonderful paradise we live in.

And I mean, sometimes, I wish I had all of the nice things that Michael Moore brought with him, and also some of the nice things glorious Fidel has at all times, like electricity, and the ability to cook things to a particular temperature.  Cow's milk, that would be nice.  But I was taught that desiring things is wrong, that is the capitalist fat cat's problem, you know.  I'm better off because I can see my ribs...that's how I know I don't deserve what I covet.  Coveting is wrong, money is wrong.  Why does Dear Leader deserve more things than I have?  Because he doesn't covet anything.  It makes sense, really.  He surrounds himself with gold and women to prove to himself how much he doesn't need those material things.  It really sets a great example for the rest of us, honestly.

Thanks for reading, and if you ever get the desire to rescue me from this wonderful squalor, rest assured:  I am good and ready to live amongst all of the wonderful things I don't covet, just to prove to myself that I don't need them.

17 The media is promoting Obama like no other president has ever been before. They are building him up to unprecedented levels before he even takes office.
I am noticing fake polls claiming the public believes he has attributes not before evidenced or proven. It is all part of the medias mind control of influencing public opinion. CNN is going so far as saying people that did not vote for Obama are still confident in him!
The corporations are also doing their part by creating plates, coins, etc to memorialize the occasion of his election.
Remember that Biden and Powell stated before the election the world would test Obama within 6 months of his taking office.
This is all designed to mind control the public into backing Obama in whatever happens or he decides.
I can tell you whatever happens it is not going to be good for the American people. Whatever the elite media has planned, do not fall for it. Do not let your emotions get the best of you. Think logically and see through their game.
Biden: Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. "Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."
Notice the key words "a generated crisis".
Why would he think it is a generated crisis? Was he in on the planning of the crisis?
There are so many possibilities for a generated crisis it is impossible to say what it might be with any certainty.
Whatever happens you can plan on Obama to lie through his teeth and not telling the public the truth. If he would, he would have to admit he is an illegal alien and not even a legal citizen of the USA.

23 "The media is promoting Obama like no other president has ever been before. They are building him up to unprecedented levels before he even takes office."

The citizen Moonbats are out of hand, too.  I was reading a TV blog recently eliciting comments from readers about what television programs they were looking forward to in 2009.  One commenter listed her excitement about the return of Battlestar Galactica, LOST, a few others, and then also added Barack Obama becoming POTUS on January 20th as a reason she's really excited about 2009.

This is a non-partisan TV blog, but they just can't help themselves.

It's true, though, isn't it, that unless an organization/blog is explicitly right-wing, it becomes leftwing over time.  Just try to read, for example, some of the forums at Television Without Pity.  It's Moonbat Central all the time over there.  Same goes for IMDB, Aint-It-Morbidly-Obese, and anywhere else you can imagine.  I'm starting to wonder about Hot Air, too, while we're at it.

The problem seems to be that, whilst right-wingers can compartmentalize, liberals have no such self-control.  They just have to share their political views with everyone around them.

32 Meh, I think Allahpundit is drunk with power, he's more concerned with coming up with a topic that will draw the most comments.

At least the stuff in Gaza has helped show his extremely hawkish side, and his obviously-not-manufactured outrage with Caroline Kennedy shows how much contempt he has for the Kennedys.  But Charles Johnson is hawkish on the WOT and probably hates Caroline Kennedy, too, but I wouldn't call him a conservative.

Well, it is possible that both our brains are going batty.  It's just that every other thread nowadays seems to be either a defense of gay marriage or an attack on religion, all introduced with a winking picture of Sarah Palin.

Obviously I exaggerate, and of course there's room for debate amongst conservatives on these issues, but the hostility towards traditionally conservative social positions would not be out of place at Daily Kos, for crying out loud!

To be fair, I think a lot of it is due to an influx of leftist trolls that happened around the time of the election, but Allahpundit's barely concealed contempt for Sarah Palin is really getting hard to take.

20 Things You Didn't Know About ... Hygiene..
1. Hygiene comes from the name "Hygieia," the Greek goddess of health,
cleanliness and ... the Moon. Ancient Greek gods apparently worked double
shifts.
2. The human body is home to some 1,000 species of bacteria. There are more
germs on your body than people in the United States.
3. Not tonight dear, I just washed my hands: Anti-bacterial soap is no more
effective at preventing infection than regular soap, and triclosan (the active
ingredient) can mess with your sex hormones.(except Alex the Chick)
4. Save the germs! A study of over 11,000 children determined that an overly
hygienic environment increases the risk of eczema and asthma.
5. Monks of the Jain Dharma (a minority religion in India) are forbidden to
bathe any part of their bodies besides the hands and feet, believing the act of
bathing might jeopardize the lives of millions of microorganisms.
6. It's a good thing they're monks.
7. Soap gets its name from the mythological Mount Sapo. According to legend,
fat and wood ash from animal sacrifices there washed into the Tiber River,
creating a rudimentary cleaning agent that aided women doing their washing.
8. Ancient Egyptians and Aztecs rubbed urine on their skin to treat cuts and
burns. Urea, a key chemical in urine, is known to kill fungi and bacteria.
9. In a small victory for cleanliness, England's medieval king Henry IV
required his knights to bathe at least once in their lives -- during their
ritual knighthood ceremonies.
10. That's their excuse, anyway: Excrement dumped out of windows into the
streets in 18th-century London contaminated the city's water supply and forced
locals to drink gin instead.(MoronsTM)
11. A seventh grader in Florida recently won her school science fair by
proving there are more bacteria in ice machines at fast-food restaurants than in
toilet-bowl water.
12. There's no "five-second rule" when it comes to dropping
food on the ground. Bacteria need no time at all to contaminate food.
13. The first true toothbrush, consisting of Siberian pig-hair bristles wired
into carved cattle-bone handles, was invented in China in 1498. But tooth
brushing didn't become routine in the United States until it was enforced on
soldiers during World War II.
14. Please don't squeeze the corncob. In 1935, Northern Tissue proudly
introduced "splinter-free" toilet paper. Previous toilet paper options included
tundra moss for Eskimos, a sponge with salt water for Romans, and -- hopefully
splinter-free -- corncobs in the American West.
15. NASA recently spent $23.4 million designing a space-shuttle toilet that
would defy zero gravity with suction technology at 850 liters of airflow per
minute. That's a lot of money for a toilet that sucks.
16. In 1843, Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. campaigned for basic sanitation in
hospitals. But this clashed with social ideas of the time and met with
widespread disdain. Charles Meigs, a prominent American obstetrician, retorted, "Doctors are gentlemen, and gentlemen's hands are clean."
17. Up to a quarter of all women giving birth in European and American
hospitals in the 17th through 19th centuries died of puerperal fever, an
infection spread by unhygienic nurses and doctors.
18. TV kills! University of Arizona researchers determined that television
remotes are the worst carriers of bacteria in hospital rooms, worse even than
toilet handles. Remotes spread antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus, which
contributes to the 90,000 annual deaths from infection acquired in hospitals.
19. It is now believed President James Garfield died not from the bullet
fired by Charles Guiteau but because the medical team treated the president with
manure-stained hands, causing a severe infection that killed him three months
later.
20. What on earth made them think manure-stained hands were remotely
acceptable to treat anyone?

The time that comment registration should be opened is on an exceedingly low-traffic day, so that those casual readers who wish to comment, may join, and there is a very low chance that most of the people who join are trolls.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a moderator over there, besides AP and Ed, and maybe Michelle.  I believe blogs as big and powerful as Hotair should have some sort of behind-the-scenes guy, who keeps people in order.

At present, the embargo, which limits American businesses from conducting business with Cuban interests, is still in effect and is the most enduring trade embargo in modern history.

75 Perhaps someone can clear up a great mystery for me. So many in Hollywood practically worship Castro, have made a universal rebel icon out of that murdering psycho Che, and extol the virtues of the "Revolution" whenever possible. Yet, none that I know of have ever fled this horrible capitalist prison to live (I use the term loosely) in Cuba. Stand on any beach in Miami and count the leaky boats loaded with refugees fleeing to that worker's paradise. Yet, if Castro and our Coast Guard allowed it, entire villages would flee Cuba to live under the jackboot of crass materialism. It could be me -- I'm sure Bush-Cheney are to blame for this under some rubric -- but there seems to be a massive disconnect in what they claim to believe and support and where their feet actually trod.

Liberals don't just "see no evil" -- they parrot the obscene as the "truth" -- the entire liberal segment has become the "man behind the curtain" and have made a virtue of "to seem rather than to be".

76 Pretty much every other country in the world is free to trade with Cuba, and they do.  Eastern Europe, the EU, Canada, most of Asia, you name it.  And yet just because the US will not, that's the cause of all their troubles.
Yeah, right.

80 Most Cuban exiles have pretty much the same attitude about U.S. policy towards Cuba.

A)  You're very very wrong, at least among the Cubans I know.  The only ones I know that oppose the embargo are those in their 20's... essentially, they're two generations removed from any memory of Cuba before Castro and they're just dumb idiot university leftists no different from their American counterparts.

B)  I'm certainly not one of them.  I'm very glad of the embargo.  Lifting it will do absolutely nothing but enrich Castro at his people's expense.

Meaning, most Cuban exiles are stupid and short-sighted, while they suck the Florida economy for all it's worth.

Right.  Marginalize and mock probably the single minority group in this entire fucking country that votes more Republican than Democrat.  And don't even do it based on anything -true-, base it on complete and utter BS about what "most" Cuban exiles think that is tragically wrong.  The embargo has stayed in place -because- of support for it from the Cuban exile community, not in spite of it,  genius.

Enough time for a coup or two, don't you think?

Have you ever seen Castro's own official figures for the amount of attempts there have been on his life in the last 50 years?  Staging a coup becomes rather difficult when A) you never know where your next meal is coming from, and B) the man never, ever, EVER sleeps in the same place twice, and C) must have at least 60 body doubles being carted around the country at any given moment.

Back on topic (sorry I strayed), I love that Ms. Mas believes that Americans under Barack Obama will somehow have more discretionary money to send to Cuba.

I believe that she is referring to the relatives sending money.  Didn't either Bush or Castro do something which put an even greater limit on the amount of money Cubans in America could send to their relatives in Cuba.  So with a new president she is just hoping that this amount increases.

Posted by: buzzion at January 02, 2009 10:03 AM (Lrsi6)

87 You morons still don't get it.  The liberals aren't dumb.  They know perfectly well Castro is an evil son of a bitch who has turned his country into a prison camp.

They like it that way.  They want everyone (except themselves) to be poor.

They hate humanity.

Really, they do.  Talk to a liberal.  See if they can get through two minutes of conversation without making some kind of insulting remark about Americans or some self-loathing remark about humans in general.  Liberals hate the world as it is, and hate other people.  They have their own fantasy of how things should be, and loathe the real world because it isn't their fantasy.

Think of how often they fantasize about the death of billions.  Think about how they prefer plants and animals to people.  Think about how much contempt and hatred they have for every aspect of modern American life.

They are pure, distilled evil.  They want you to die.  And they are now in control of every level of government in our country.

Jones - You are obviously writing without any understanding of the embargo. First and foremost there is no compelling reason for the US to trade with Cuba. This is particularly true since Cuba is notorious for buying on credit and then never paying what it owes. US entities who trade with Cuba at present, agriculture, medical supplies and equipment, do so on a cash only basis. This has had the pleasant side effect keeping these companies from getting screwed by the castro family. Also, until Cuba reimburses US citizens for properties seized (DuPont, Coca-Cola, private citizens' holdings) we should not trade with them. China and Vietnam agreed to this and paid up. Why shouldn't Cuba?

Most importantly, what you don't understand, is that lifting the embargo will not help the average Cuban. Every other country in the world trades with them and they still live in a gulag. It's a shit hole. I wouldn't raise a dog there. Why is it that trade with the US will suddenly make it Utopia? Really. I would like to know.

You wrote about Cubans coming here to see how good we have it but you seem to be blissfully unaware that Cubans are not allowed to leave their country freely. Unlike you they can not just get up one morning and decide to leave town. They are prisoners. And when, for example, a husband gets a visa to leave the country his wife is not allowed one. Why? Insta-hostage. Should he fail to return she'll probably never get a visa and she'll lose her job and her ration card. So, explain to me how they'll be able to come here freely and see how great the US is?

Cuba sucks balls. I thank God every day that my father escaped and I was born in the USA. I did go to Cuba once to visit relatives that I knew I would not get the chance to meet if I didn't. I regret going because it was such a shit hole. But I am glad that I got to see the shit hole so I can call it a shit hole from first hand experience. It sucked. It totally and completely sucked. You could feel the repression in the air. Oh, and the apartheid? It's real. Cubans couldn't go to the hotels, the nicer beaches, the restaurants where they have, you know, food. I lived like a Cuban for what should have been a week and left on the 5th day because I couldn't hack it. Repression, starvation and filth don't appeal to me. I hid most of the photos from my father because I didn't want to break his heart. One of the aunts I visited was dead a year later. The genius "free" healthcare professionals let her die of a broken hip because she refused to give up Catholicism. They didn't even give her pain medication. She was 65, for Christ's sake. My 89 year grandmother literally walked away from a broken hip.

So you'll excuse me if I call bullshit on the notion that lifting the embargo will help Cuba, To think that Americans being able to go there for cheap underage hookers will somehow help the Cuban people proves to everyone that you have shit for brains. I hope castro rots in hell soon. Fuck castro, fuck obama and fuck anyone who either of them is a decent human being.

Too much?
