Obama Visits Marine Corps* Base in Hawaii

This was yesterday:

The diners represented seven military units -- Marine and Navy -- some of whom were joined by their families for Christmas dinner.

As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping. The diners were polite, staying seated at their respective tables and waited for the president-elect to come to them to stand up.

A deliberate snub or merely a proper distinction in the treatment due a president and a president-elect?

H/t Gateway Pundit.

*Headline corrected for loose shit. Actually, I think that might be the second time I've made that mistake. Thanks to thebronze.

1 By no stretch of the imagination has Obama been friendly toward the military. And if one judges him based on his associations, he is lucky they didn't boo him, but of course they are The United States Military; they wouldn't behave that way.

3 On the one hand, I cannot imagine how any military man could feel good about the new Commander-in-Chief, yet according to the Left, the military is filled with antiwar soldiers who hate George Bush and think we're in Iraq  because of the oil.

What I would like to know is this:  what is the actual percentage of military personnel who think Michael Moore was right, voted for Barack Obama and gets misty-eyed over the patriotism of John Kerry?

How widespread is that, really?

4 The Christmas Dinner at Camp H. M. Smith was always considered a family affair.   I can imagine that to the assembled families, Obama was the President-Elect, and has NO political standing (Commander-in-Chief - or otherwise) at this time.  Therefore he was treated with normal courtesy due any other CIVILIAN, unlike the MSM which kisses his exalted ass at every opportunity.

Too bad his fucking staff doesn't realize that distinction.

5 Watch any video of Bush visiting the troops in Iraq and you'll know just how big of a snub this was. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy

6 #1  The United States Military would have enough class not to interrupt someones Christmas Dinner.

7 There is protocol in how to address VIP, i'm not sure what it is for a President elect vs. The actual President. But know this...units are very well aware when a VIP does show up before hand and in this instance the dining facility would have been very well briefed in what to do...I don't think it was any sort of snub.

9 Nobody would have booed him unless they want to end up on charges.

I hope they've fixed up the chow hall, it used to be a real shithole on the ground side of the base. I'm not surprised there was no cheering, voting dem used to be considered somewhat akin to fucking dogs. But that was the oooollldd Corps.

I will come off my high horse and admit that it was a nice gesture though.

You are not the MAN until you are the man.

You do NOT stand up for a retired Senator.  When he is the commander in chief, all will rise.

This is NO snub.  These are the rules.  The military lives by rules.  "The One" may have a fake seal, but yesterday, he is just another mullet in the mess hall.

So yes, he is a VIP in the sense that he is the President-Elect.  But not much beyond that.

12 They were obviously courteous and professional but the subdued attitude was most likely that they didn't like him due to his longstanding beliefs and attitudes held amongst the left.  If you compare that reception to President Bush's appearances you get a distinct difference. Otherwise , they don't like him! But the will be pro's and observe protocol.

Contrast to the multiple press-blackout visits by Bush and Cheney. Then compare this Obama visit and the aborted visit back in July - no photo op allowed then.

FTA: "As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping."

Regular fanfare... hmmmm - for whom is that the regular "fanfare"?  I'll tell you, it is the regular reaction of the regular troops every time President George W. Bush enters a room full of military folks, anywhere, anytime.  The fucking MSM wants imply is staged by calling it "fanfare".  It isn't, and they know it - and they have miles of tape of totally over-the-top crazy adulation of the CIC from the troops that they will never show one inch of on-air.

But the first time Obama ever gets a round of polite (and pre-ordered) applause, you can bet that will be news!  Fucking assholes.

27 I'd like to think those assembled did what was expected for a VIP, and the press is just put out that they do more for a popular president.  One of the reasons I didn't consider service was my window of opportunity was at the beginning of Clinton's 1st term, and I wasn't mature enough to put country over commander.  I have faith those that do serve are more mature than I was.

GWB - the troops respect him...same with his Dad (I got to hear him take about 10 years ago, he got a standing "O" after his talk with us about leadership...and he's a pretty funny guy.).  Any man that has a conscience about sending the military into a fight, can shed tears of sympathy with a family that has lost a loved one, or can spend time with a family earns the respect of those in uniform...

It scares me how Teleprompter Jesus wants so badly to play president.  "Office of the president elect"?  What the fuck?  You would have to be a complete fucking tool to show up at this dinner.  Importantly, it illustrates that there is no one on his staff that gets it.  The military respects authority, and therefore gets pissed when politicians or senior officers abuse their authority.  I remember being in a briefing with the Chief of Naval Operations and seventy or so Navy and Marine Corps pilots.  The CNO forgot to put us at ease so we were all standing at attention through a 40 minute speech, when one of the Marines said "Hey, how about a fucking at ease?"

This guy has no, zero, nada grasp of history.  No idea what it is like to serve in the military.  Hell, he treats us like a fucking Panda Bear, give us a piece of bamboo and leave for the beach.  This guy will make Jimmah Carter look like Churchill.

68 A though or two. First, the military only has one Commander-In-Chief.  The person with the job was not in the room.  If there was any "regular fanfare of cheering and clapping," it would have been a breach of protocol, being seen as a overtly political act.  The marines and sailors behaved properly, showing him the respect due any VIP.  Once Obama is in office, and if he can keep from embarrassing the military, he'll get his triumph.  Second, I don't expect much complaining from the troops about who's sitting in the big chair.  My first CnC was Nixon and my last was Clinton.  In between I tried my best to do the job I was paid to (Go, Air Force) and not worry about it, as none of them were going to be in front of me pointing a rifle.  Rest assured, any inclinations about watersports among the troops will only be directed towards the real enemy.  The rest of you may do as you like.

I'm starting to regret my snooping in DU.

The fact is: We garrison the planet north to south, east to west, and even on the seven seas, thanks to our various fleets and our massive aircraft carriers which, with 5,000-6,000 personnel aboard -- that is, the population of an American town -- are functionally floating bases.

And here's the other half of that simple truth: We don't care to know about it. We, the American people, aided and abetted by our politicians, the Pentagon, and the mainstream media, are knee-deep in base denial.

Uh huh. Lesson learned, never delve into matters that insult you're intelligence.

Or will he continue to spend multiple thousands of his? money defending  his right?  to tell us to shut the fuck up?

Just want to know..

Fight fire with fire with street thugs.
There comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles when he's forced to and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an asswhoopin'. Therefore: I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed. I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place. I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world. I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world. I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government. I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life being angry at myself for failing to be prepared. I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon. I don't carry a gun because I want to feel like a cowboy. I carry a gun because should I be illegally attacked, I want to be a cowboy. I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to protect themselves and the ones they love. I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate. I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me. Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime, they just investigate the crime after it happens and then call in someone to clean up the mess. Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'.

112 Actually, the lack of enthusiasm is telling. Even though the polite applause is correct and appropriate for a former-Senator soon-to-be-POTUS VIP visitor, there are plenty of other private citizens with NO official status who would probably get raucous standing ovations in the same situation. Gary Sinise, Bruce Willis, Ted Nugent etc. Sure, they're celebrities, but I really don't see Marines being all too impressed with that. The vocal support they've given is all that matters.

Can you imagine the ovation that Bob Hope would get if he were alive today?

I honestly think this country is ready to defend their Constitution and to Hell with those who couldn't care less about it, and that includes Obama, Sean Hannity and Ron Paul.
