Bush Pardons 19, But Not Compean and Ramos

Ragnar notes he did have the compassion for this pardon:

John Allen Aregood of Riviera, Texas. Conspiracy to harbor and transport illegal aliens.

Also at the Jawas: Only 20% of MSM stories mention scandal-ridden Ohio AG Mike Dann's party affiliation.

Guess what percentage mention "Republican" when reporting Palin's daughter's boyfriend's mother's drug bust?

I'll let you click for the answer.

btw, it's Marc Dann

The other - more nuanced media snowjob - is the overhyping of a critical report of Dann by the Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

Now that Dann is fully under the democratic bus here in Ohio, ultra-partisan Jennifer Brunner has piled on with a very critical report which, naturally, is getting lots of press attention.

When you have Dann listed without his party affiliation - and he's getting whacked by well-known democrat Brunner - the impression left is that Dann is probably a republican.

9 Do you notice that every personal scandal (Mark Foley) is a GOP scandal but every single scandal that has tentacles throughout the party (Blagojevich) is the scandal of an individual and doesn't taint the Democrat party?

Do you also notice that it takes almost no time for Democrats to be corrupt?  Emanuel is proving that you can be corrupt before actually taking office.  Like a fetus of a scandal.  Too bad for Obama that he has decided not to abort the scandal by throwing Rahmbo under the bus.

They weren't ever really meant to be filled, by golly. What are you, idjits? And those of you leaving now because you are too demoralized to serve the nation? Eh. What can you do. 16 GarandFan,

Yep. That trial was the Bush Administration's none-too-subtle way of saying to BP agents, "Do your job, but not too well. IYKWIMAITYD."

See, it just makes sense that you send tens of thousands of soldiers across the globe to defend a foreign nation from foreign intervention, but secure your own nation's? Why, that's just crazy talk.

I'll probably miss GWB, but not much.

On a happier note, Merry Christmas morons! May a seasoned hobo, a fifth of Valu-Rite, and a door-squeezing, enhanced-boobage, Japanese lovely fill your stocking. And I know you pervs have stockings.

Of all the odd, infuriating, appalling things President Bush has done over the years, the Ramos/Campean has always been the most perplexing and unnerving. These two men are examples for Something Big, Something Important (insert air quotes). Being fairly untrained in the art of conspiracy theory I can only make some hazy guesses concerning a kind of EU amalgamation of the Americas. On the other hand, it could be as simple as what GarandFan suggested in #14. I just don't know.

I feel so bad for Ramos and Campean and their familes and friends.

Just fucking damn.

30 I have signed the petitions and sent a letter to have R & C pardoned, but I saw a lawyer on something the other day, don't have the clear details because I just caught the tail-end, but he said they probably wouldn't get pardoned. He was saying there was more to the case the public didn't know? and that Bush probably wouldn't interfere in it. I wish I knew what the show was, I could hunt for a clip, but I was traveling and it was a local type program. This lawyer seemed very sure there was more to the story about what they did, but I don't get it. I thought I had seen/read pretty much the whole dillio, so I guess we will have to hope he does it right before he leaves, a big bang thing. Of course, if there IS something bad we haven't been privy to.....................................

31 Oh, and how many of you have actually written Bush and politely requested a commutation for them?

I did. But don't request a commutation, request a pardon. A commutation's better than nothing, but a pardon will wipe the conviction from their records.

Another thought I had on this issue is that the NRA takes a lot of heat for opposing "common sense gun laws," but the charge that put these 2 guys in prison the longest was possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, nothwithstanding the fact that they're required to possess a firearm to do their fucking jobs. Common sense gun laws sound great until they're put in the hands of an overzealous prosecutor.

Newsflash: I've emailed Bush and the DOJ several times over illegals and border security. Don't kid yourself. No President sees the e-mail addressed to them. They don't care.  They have a buffer of personnel who read the correspondence, send back an "acknowledgement of receipt" and not much else.

Posted by: V the K at December 24, 2008 09:22 AM (d2fuu)

36 I have signed the petitions and sent a letter to have R & C pardoned,...

Good. Letters by snail mail have the most effect. They are requesting a commutation – not a pardon. All cases have facts that don’t come out. However, in big cases like this where the public has the right to know, it would have come out. Who was this atty?

I did. But don't request a commutation, request a pardon. A commutation's better than nothing, but a pardon will wipe the conviction from their records.

Great! However, see above. They are asking for a commutation.

I’m sure some smart appellate atty has tried this argument before.

Newsflash: I've emailed Bush and the DOJ several times over illegals and border security. Don't kid yourself. No President sees the e-mail addressed to them. They don't care. They have a buffer of personnel who read the correspondence, send back an "acknowledgement of receipt" and not much else.

I never kid myself. The amount of email is overwhelming. Who would want a president who reads all his email? Snail mail and telephone calls are more effective. And while President Bush won’t read the letters or pick up the phone, his minions do and they keep score. A million letters would have quite an effect.

So, that’s four....

37 Par for the course.  The most reasonable sounding conspiracy theory I've heard on this is that Mexico is one of our top 2 oil sources, (the other is Canada, but I can't remember what order they are) and they're linking loose controls on illegal immigration as part of the deal for their oil.  Makes sense to me, anyway.

Posted by: Cautiously Pessimistic at December 24, 2008 10:06 AM (ltwze)

38 Guardians of our sovereign borders put a hurt on the spirit of neighborliness desired from the "New World Order" of the Bush scion. "Little things..." really do "...mean a lot" when the Federal gov't uses its power to criminalize the sworn duty of civilian law enforcement. It also puts many rightwingers on the same side with the Troofer retards in wanting to see some investigations of serious dirty dealings. You don't quash rumors of conspiracies by covering for people like Johnny Sutton.

Posted by: J David at December 24, 2008 10:15 AM (/OcX/)

39 I think the deal was that Ramos and Compean got hung out to dry in exchange for "cooperation" with counter-narcotics operations.

Posted by: V the K at December 24, 2008 10:16 AM (d2fuu)

40

Hung out to dry for favors from the corrupt and festering sty that is the Mexican National Gubmint. What else do you expect from a Yankee who moved to Texas to be part od his family's business, oil, and then went native a hundred miles farther south?

Bush is and always has been a Patrician in the classical sense of the word, and getting his hands dirty getting the two BP guys out of the Texas Federal Klink would put a big cramp in his post office, Texas Big-Wig Stylings. He WANTS to be accepted by the kind of American, like that Texas DA, who prosecutes his own people for doing a dirty job he himself refuses to acknowledge. How many Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors involved in the GWOT have been needlessly and wrecklessly persecuted,uh prosecuted, to blunt criticism from the left?

Hell, that puke Murtha has made it his stock in trade since 05 and Bush has not said or done a thing to the contrary since. He leaves the military swinging from the left's rope, the same for Campeon and Ramos. They're sacrfiicial lambs at this point.

He will sacrifice these two to make things easier for him in the post Prez world of Texas elbow rubbing and ass kissing.

Count on it. I thinnk even McLame would have given them their freedom by now, and that says alot about Bush, and none of it's good.

As a Fed working on the border, the guy you wanna cap has got to do three things in order for you to make that all important attitude adjustment. He must show intent to harm. He must have a means to do the deed. And he has gotta be close enough to get the job done. If he does all three of these things and then runs, you start all over.

Far as I can see, the little drug runner didn't meet any of benchmarks when he was shot. He was shot in the back for Christs sake!

Where I come from (Texas) you don't shoot a man in the back and then fiddle evidence.

There is a code. follow it.

Posted by: exfed at December 24, 2008 01:23 PM (Xomyd)

44 Lists of Presidential pardons are heavy on the drug runners, you might have noticed. The ones on those lists usually, uh...work for the government, let's say. The guy Ramos and Compean capped probably did, too. It would explain a lot.

Posted by: blogRot at December 24, 2008 03:17 PM (EKMxC)

46 Fuck, blogRot is back. I thought it would still be somewhere jacking off because Obama won.

Listen, troll, I've broken rules for the sake of a mission too, with the understanding from my commanders that if I got caught, it was my ass. One time I did get caught, and it cost me. The job still got done. That's the price you pay working for Uncle Sam. These guys paid enough, they don't need to be federal felons forever for the sake of a fucking Mexican border-jumping drug runner. As far as I'm concerned they fucked up by letting him live, so getting caught was on them for shitty marksmanship.

Posted by: SGT Dan at December 24, 2008 07:52 PM (5ZI7f)

47 Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, the illegal alien drug runner involved, is the REAL cause of all this trouble.  If HE had NOT been attempting to SMUGGLE drugs into OUR country in the FIRST place, the Ramos-Compean tragedy would NEVER have happened!

Posted by: ruth cherico at January 01, 2009 08:45 PM (iuNkK)

49 I do not think the curse words need to be used in the comments, but I really think GW turned out to be a not so good president. He will pardon drug smugglers and others, but will keep the agents in prison. Does he even think about their families and what they are going through? This is really sad for our nation and especially the Republicans. I hope Obama will look into this situation and that Johnny Sutton will be out of there. I hope he, Sutton was not born in Texas. I hope no Texan would be so awful. Paybacks are not so good and I hope Sutton gets his and really soon. He does need to sit in the cell next to one of the agents.
