Obama Transition Source Leaks News That We Won't Be Leaving Iraq Within His 16 Month Timetable

Broken promises. Sweet.

*Maybe* some doves in the Obama camp leaked all this with the hope that public howls a week before Christmas and with all the other news in the world would pressure Obama to keep to the withdrawal promise from which he has been steadily backpedaling. Maybe.

My bet is that this is an inoculating early leak so that fewer doves are actually left standing on the rug when Obama finally and formally pulls it out from under them.

didn't Obama promise to invade Pakistan to get Osama bin Laden?

I look forward to that promise being fulfilled.

9 All hail to the chief - Bush III.

I had been worried that Obomber was just another socialist moron trying to destroy the country.  So far, he's turned out to be just another politician that managed to collect huge sums of money and sweet-talk a bunch of low-grade morons into voting him into office.

Suh-weeet, indeed.

Posted by: apb at December 18, 2008 03:27 PM (4Ac/Q)

Yes, Obama made a big spiel about his plans for Osama and Pakistan to Michael Smerconish, a Philly talk show host. That was *the* main reason given by Smerconish for his vote for Obama.

Whether Obama will backtrack on his promise remains to be seen. But why people believed Obama in the first place remains a mystery - sort of like how 'The Closer' became the highest rated cable program of all time.

didn't Obama promise to invade Pakistan to get Osama bin Laden?

Somebody should show the super-intelligent Harvard edjucated master statesman Obamuh a map and ask him to point out Iraq, Afganistan, Iran and Pakistan.  Bringing the war on terror to Iraq becomes perfectly clear when you realize that Afganistan is a land locked country surrounded by Iran, Pakistan and fucking China.  Lots of bad guys were already in Iraq and plenty more came to die by coming to Iraq through Iran and Syria.  There is also the added bonus of removing the worst regime in the middle east and replacing it with what could easily become the best.  That is a huge net gain for the world.  The worst nightmare for Iran and Syria is to have a successful thriving democracy on their borders because democracy is contagious.

Pakistan has begrudgingly helped us in Afganistan by letting us fly over their airspace.  That deal is probably out the window come Jan 20th thanks to Obama's promise.

15 I don't have any problems whatsoever with this change in plans. I'm just glad that soon-to-be President Obama is really a 'politician' and not an ideologue. I think he portrayed himself as a small and opportunistic man during the primaries, when he pandered to the Fools Parade, but now that he can tell them to pound salt ---- that it exactly what he is doing. Albeit with a smile and a kind word.

Frankly I think he is acting Presidential or as I at least understand what presidential should mean. I'm sure the 'right' will be pouncing on each and very 'deviation' as a sign of 'something' but  anyone who acts in the long-term best interests of the country is fine by me.

I hope that the 'right ' is not going to spend the next 8 years whining like the 'left' has just finished doing. But I hope for a gazillion dollars as well. Both wishes are likely to be seriously cast into the trash bin. The only TRUE difference between 'them' and 'us' is inside' or 'outside'.

And that's a damn shame.

He promised unicorns, I expect unicorns.

Well, he might not technically have promised unicorns; I might have dreamed that part.  But I count it as a campaign promise from The Messiah all the same, so no difference.

In a similar vein, those 3 lesbian midget strippers I dreamed about?  I sure hope they don't have trouble reaching the doorbell when they arrive.

26 Personally, I'd rather see our soldiers withdrawn by Dubya.  For one reason, I don't want them to die for people that don't give a fiddlers fat ass about freedom (their own or Iraq's).  But mainly I remember the Somalia incursion, as ordered by Dubya's dad; then the same mission managed by the Clinton team.  Dead servicemen dragged thru the streets.  Peace creeps in charge of freedom fighters only means a disproportionately large amount of good guys.  For the peace creeps it's win/win, since they don't believe anyone is good.

"I hope that the 'right ' is not going to spend the next 8 years whining like the 'left' has just finished doing."

I'm not going to whine for the next  8  4 years. I'm going to parody the left with the same rhetoric they threw at our side with a smile on my face.

After I'm done, I'll say, "See how batshit crazy you sounded for the past 8 years?"

So, what sounds better? Kim Jong Il-bama or Chairman Mao-bama?

I'm partial to Chairman Mao-bama personally...

Granted, it's not as catchy as "Chimpy McHitlerBurton"; but you work with what you're handed I guess...
