Nosey Nelly Quit in a Snit

Helen Jones-Kelley, Ohio's Director of Department of Job and Family Services, has quit, along with two others involved in digging through Joe the Plumber's confidential information. I feel like this is old news, but can't seem to find it on the main page, so...

In a four-paragraph statement, she said, "it is with sadness and clarity that I have decided to resign...This decision comes after having a time of pause, in which I realize that I continue to be used as a political postscript, providing a distraction from urgent state priorities.

"My professional career, and the legacy of service I have established, has been, and continues to be, far too important for me to allow my reputation and my commitment as a servant leader to be disparaged. I also remain concerned for the safety of my family and myself."

Self-serving and revisionist. She didn't have much concern for turning Joe the Plumber's life into a political postscript, did she?

Thanks to Dave in Texas who got the link (I think) from commenter Kestrel.

1 How do you resign from a six figure job? Was she one of those Ohioans that just won the 204 million dollar lottery?

2 Servant leader?  Oxymoron.

Funny, when disparaging other people's reputations was just a day's work.

I seem to remember the MSM and Dems saying: "He's not a real plumber.... He doesn't have a license - instead of what the MSM media and the Dems should have been talking about - OBAMA'S ANSWER!! 22 Of course let us not forget the media's culpability in all this.  They were the ones who took the illicit information and made it front page news.  You would think that journalism students would have an ethics component to their curriculum in which this scenario is discussed.  Would it kill an MSM reporter who, when handed pages of juicy PRIVATE dirt on a PRIVATE citizen, would stop and say "hey, how did this information get out there? would i be assisting in a crime if i publish it?"

Common sense tells me that she "resigned" so that she wouldn't face prosecution.  As if Dems. ever get prosecuted for their crimes and misdemeanors.

Have they sufficiently stolen Minnesota's Senate election yet?  I have a few ballots in my trunk here in California that somehow got misdirected.  They are ALL for Frankin.  Somebody contact me so they can be counted.

"...used as a political postscript."

Your retirement doesn't mean an end to citing you as a crooked fixer...not by a long shot. Katherine Harris was pilloried by the Left for years after Florida. Your ride is just starting, sugar.

As for that "servant leader" stuff, that's got a suh-weet collectivist ring to it. A truncheon-bearing trusty for The One's great leap forward.

I made several calls to the various agencies involved in this crime as well as to the governor's office. Believe me, I raised HOLY HELL. I blasted anyone who dared take my call...and I was passed UP the line on many of the calls. I did not accept any excuses from anyone.

I made it clear that as a tax-paying citizen and small business owner that this thuggery by the Strickland administration would cause a backlash like they have never seen.

I kinda think there were many other Ohioans who also expressed their outrage.

Posted by: OneHappyOhioan at December 18, 2008 11:29 AM (0XpI7)

38 "Servant leader" is a quasi-religious term.  If you want to be great in God's kingdom, learn to be the servant of all.  The first shall be last, etc.

She's trying to show her commitment to a higher calling, the greater good, if you will in the use of this language.  And I'd bet dollars to doughnuts (mmmmm...doughnuts!) that she believed pulling Joe the Plumber's records was for the greater good, so the ends justified the means.

Plus, using "servant leader" is a pretty sweet way to brag about how humble you are.

No, she did not “resign”. In any large organization, at that level, one is not fired; one resigns. It is better for everyone all around. It looks better on her resume if she resigns and it saves the organization a lot of heartache, especially since she is a “black female” and thus protected specie.

Puh-leeze! "servant leader" - my foot! All she was serving was herself interest and Obama, the best way she knew how...doesn't say much for her integrity.

What about Joe? He's a citizen, who was minding his own business (wish she could've managed to do that) and just participating in a little back and forth with a presidential candidate - part of what is supposed to make our country great, is the ability to freely do that without reprecussions. Did she "serve" him? Nooo, she wasn't looking out for him and his privacy. Nope. She chose to abuse her authority, and expose a private citizen to hordes of invasive publicity because he didn't play the Obama lovin' game. No apologies either from her on that...

Look, I don't like reading this in Modern Revised Standard Version any more than the next guy, BUT:

This servant/leader thing is not an invention. The word "knight" is the German "knecht," which means "servant." Sure it's a Christian and Romantic notion, but they also teach it in the military. And Boy Scouts.

So she is harking back to someone's sense of ethical behavior. It's just that I don't remember any data-mining in Parsifal.

66 Yeah, "servant leader" is a term that originated in evangelical Christian circles. It's shorthand for how those in positions of authority are supposed to act (i.e like humble servants, not like grandiose poobahs). I'm surprised that it is here used in a public document. It sounds like she's proclaim her piety, which would fit in well with the rest of the letter, which is thick with ball-dipping levels sanctimoniousness.
