Umm, wow. I don't know whether to laugh or weep. Mostly weep, though. I understand it's not to be taken seriously. But it may also be a metaphor for how we treat each other in cyberspace. Surely, at some point, each of us has written some equivalent of "fuck you, penguin" to some anonymous internet handle whom we believed richly deserved it. But would we say the same thing to their face? Behind each internet persona is a living, breathing human being with emotions and desires just the same as we have. Should we dehumanize the person by spouting off insults that we wouldn't say to their face? In essence, aren't we treating them as if they weren't any more human than a penguin?
