Rasmussen: 45% Suspect It's Likely or Very Likely Obama or His Team "Involved In" Blagojevich Scandal

Hmmmm. Depends on what "involved with," I guess. Obviously he was somehow involved, albeit in an innocent way. Was he corruptly involved? 45% of the public (about John McCain's vote share, by the way) think so.

I can by "involved with" meaning involved with the greater millieu of Chicago corruption, but directly involved in this particular corrupt deal? I don't know. I can certainly envision Rahm Emanuel making counteroffers regarding the seat, offering indirect ways to pay off Blago.

One fun point: Okay, so we're out of power. So now the liberals get what we've had to deal with: polls. And of course falling poll numbers.

Thanks to CJ.

ace,

i have dreaded the coming obama presidency for a long time. but now that it's here, i'm suddenly thinking this is going to be a lot of fun.

obama can't handle pressure that well, and that situation is compounded by the fact that he hasn't been vetted on a bunch of stuff like what's going on right now in illinois, money laundering with tony rezko, etc.

and from what i'm seeing, it looks like the media's love for the One might be overcome by the financial need to drum up some good scandals.

yes, the polls are another fun aspect. but it's only one of many

I can barely watch Hannity and Colmes anymore because, just as Colmes' job was tied to B.D.S. so, too, appears that Hannity's job is tied to O.B.S.. Even Coulter sounded less deranged than Hannity tonight.

It's tempting to think, or to say, "Get the hell off the dead horse, folks!" It kinda feels like the boy crying wolf, and then...I remember that the wolf is lurking...the friggin sky is falling...etc...

Yeah. Folks are yelling what sounds like the deranged rantings of what normally would be associated with the lunatic left but, in this case, the jackass has been tied to so many friggin scandals that I'm afraid we'll eventually witness folks such as Drudge and Hannity and, eventually, Coulter being hauled off by the men in little white coats due to their inability to gain traction with any of it.

It's going to be a very long four years.

Peru seizes 3 tons of cocaine mixed with guano

Police delayed announcing the Dec. 4 raid because it was initially impossible to calculate how much cocaine was mixed with the guano, the nitrogen- and phosphate-rich droppings of birds and bats.

Cortijo said the cocaine was destined for Barcelona, Spain.

Peru is the world's largest producer of coca and cocaine after Colombia, and it is also a major source of guano, harvested from excrement-stained islands off its southern coast. Most is used as fertilizer in Peru's fields, but some is shipped overseas, where it is a favorite among organic gardeners.

The media, across the board, is convinced that this fraud of a President-Elect is a mental giant. The more I hear from him the more convinced I become that  intelligence wise he's a real lightweight. As much as I hope I'm wrong, I believe his shallowness, combined with the media's fawning, will drive him to take dangerous risks. If only he and his family were going to be affected then, no harm no foul, but with the fate of the Nation riding on him I'd prefer the guy just shut up and be a ceremonial POTUS. Unfortunately this lightweight President is back-stopped with Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi; forget the rest of the succession list, since, by the time Biden and Pelosi get done there won't be much left of America.

On the bright side though, the Arabs love us.

40 Isn't it something how this was such a major story last Tuesday and Wednesday when it broke.  Rahm looked guilty as all hell, and for the first time, it felt as though Obama would finally be linked to an actual scandal.  Here we are, not even a week later, and the story has all but died.   People are simply laughing at what a stupid fuck Blago is, having fun with the idea that the man was suffering from "delusions" etc, and gee, isn't it so hysterical that this man fashions his hair like Elvis and wears black turtlenecks with black leather jackets .  As usual, nothing can be linked back to Obama and company.  This should be a huge embarrasment for Team O before the guy gets sworn in, and yet, there they go again, shrugging it off as no big deal whatsoever.  I am already sick of this.  What the hell does it take to get enough evidence to link this schmo to something serious?

Posted by: sassypants at December 15, 2008 11:22 PM (8nB5X)

41 You can't get enough evidence on him, sassypants.  There was enough uncovered during the campaign that should have given any sensible person pause (and caused me to decide not to vote for him), but it was all somehow a "distraction."

There is virtually NOTHING he could do that will hurt him, I'm convinced.  It flows from the premise:  If Obama does it, it must be good.

Diving deeply into those poll numbers, one finds that 28% of that 45% believe that "involved in" means "fucking Blago's wife on a pool table whilst Blago counts ill-gotten booty from selling pieces of Illinois to the highest bidder" and another 8% of the 45% believe that, even if the 28% of the 45% just mentioned are factually correct, since Obama is, in fact, The Second Coming (no pun intended), He has the power to forgive himself for such a disgusting act in advance, and did so.

"There are no less than 10 lawyers who have the Obama family portrait displayed prominently in their offices, next to their degrees."

I see stuff like that all the time. Just the other day, I was at the Adams & Wabash el stop (Chicago), which is close to the Art Institute and Orchestra Hall. There, a pretty young woman who was carrying a violin case had a large button pinned to her coat with Obama's picture on it. No slogan, no words at all in fact - just the grinning mug of The One, pinned to her jacket, like it was some kind of wonder-working icon. I'm 56, and I've never seen anything like this cult of personality for a politician - in the US, at least. It reminded me of the time, in 1976, when I was walking down a street in Tbilsi, and I happened across a truck whose driver had attached a framed picture of Stalin to the dashboard. Some people buy into the hype, and once they do, they never let go.

The problem is that once you've committed yourself so deeply and so publicly to a cult, it's hard to back out: if you do so, you're admitting that you were an idiot, that you'd been played as a sucker. Some people would rather die than face that humiliation.

Luca, in the months to come, as the news turns sour and reality sets in, most of the portraits will quietly disappear. It will be interesting to see whose disappears first. But there will be two or three hard-core believers who will keep their faith in The One despite all evidence to the contrary. You may want to keep an eye on them, in case they go postal.

78 100% of MSNBC staffers are certain that not only did Obama have nothing whatsoever to do with ANYTHING Blagojevich-related, they also agree that Obama is like, totally awesome, and can he just be President already?

And no less than 30 MSNBC reporters are searching for evidence that Sarah Palin was somehow responsible for the Blagojavich scandal.

The "french" is a feature here. You're expected to use "french". Don't pre-emptively apologise for using "french" here again. Ever. Or you'll get the banhammer.

Don't apologise afterwords either. Damnit.

Andrew Sullivan's on his period this week.   Not just more Trig Truther stuff, but now trying to convict Bush of torturing the shoe thrower:

If the abuse turns out to be true and if it happened at Camp Cropper at the hands of US personnel, then we are in the middle of a public relations and military crisis - one that manages to bring together all the idiocy and dumb cruelty of the Bush-Cheney years together.

I was wondering how Bush could make his legacy even more toxic in the few weeks left to him. Some thought it impossible in the middle of two failed wars, $10 trillion in debt; $32 trillion in new entitlement liabilties, and a second Great Depression. But we are always misunderestimating him.

#96, My take is that the Tribune has little love for Blago, but plenty of love for the democratic party.  Their unwillingness to see dems outside of Blago commit crimes--particularly the Obama administration--was probably their main motivation.  If it had been the GOP, the Tribune would have waited for all the players to be flushed out.  THAT would have been an even bigger story.
