More on the Chicago Culture of Corruption In Which Obama Thrived
More: KHQA, Which Reported Obama-Blago Meeting, Disappears Articles Reporting It; Tom Magurie Wonders if They Just Didn't Get It Wrong from the Get-Go

At Michelle Malkin's:

You want an expose, look into the links between the banks owned by Amrish Mahajan (Mutual Bank) and the Giannoulias family (Broadway Bank) and all the state business and real estate deals (including Obama’s) and that ran through those banks. Alexi Giannoulias is the Illinois State Treasurer, who, you might recall, came out of nowhere when he was endorsed by Obama.
Conveniently, Patty Blagojevich is a realtor who has made thousands of dollars in commissions from Hot Rod’s cronies. The Chicago Tribune has detailed the commissions-as-politcal-donations policy of the Blagojevich’s many times.
Basically, the only way to make it big in Chicago politics is to pay to play, and this is an environment in which Obama not only existed but thrived.
To say that corruption in Chicago and Cook County is pervasive would be an understatement. Unfortunately America will now have to live with the decision of chosing a Chicago politician as president and what that means for the nation as favors are repaid over the next four years...

She also writes of the Democratic Party's culture of corruption.

itzgerald says President-elect Obama was not implicated in the plethora of charges against Democrats Blago and Harris. The national media went out of their way to absolve him, too. But declaring Team Obama’s hands clean — especially with Blago crony and indicted Obama donor Tony Rezko in the middle of it all — is premature. (And if you’re wondering why I keep putting “Democrat” in front of the accused corruptocrats, it’s because the mainstream newspapers can’t seem to remember to identify their party prominently the way they do when Republicans are nabbed.)

...

Democrats and the media can no longer rest on the old rationalization that Blago is an exception to the “we’re cleaner than thou” rule. 2008 was the year of Democratic Reps. William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, Charlie “Sweetheart Deals” Rangel, and former Detroit Mayor Kwame “Text Me” Kilpatrick. It was the year Democratic Massachusetts State Senator Dianne Wilkerson got caught stuffing bribes from an FBI informant down her shirt. It was the year 12 Democratic leaders and staffers in Pennsylvania’s state Capitol were stung in a massive corruption scandal involving cash, sex and abuse of public office. And it was the year of multimillion-dollar embezzlement scandals at Democratic satellite offices of ACORN and the SEIU.

Wouldn't Some Vetting of The Chicago Way Have Been Helpful Before the Election? Actually, I'll take some vetting of Obama's political culture after the election. Won't get that either, of course.

Geraghty writes:

In light of allegations that the governor of Illinois was ready to auction off Barack Obama's Senate seat to the highest bidder, does any major media organization feel like they examined the political culture that Obama came from sufficiently? Do the New York Times, the Washington Post, the major networks, the newsweeklies, the cable networks, etc. — do they feel that they really gave their readers and viewers a good sense of how Chicago politics works, and how that place shaped Obama?

The MSM seems to be taking the position that in a city in which most politicians are extraordinarily corrupt, Obama is to be praised for being merely ordinarily corrupt.

Thanks to CJ for that.

And Yeah... Obama did in fact meet Blago on November 5th.

It is unlikely in the extreme that Obama plotted corruptly with Blago shortly after having been elected president. That's not the way the favor bank works, after all. The guy with more power doesn't need the guy with less power very much.

It does however underscore Obama's breathless dishonesty on his contacts with his various criminal associates -- he simply makes shit up out of whole cloth. He just doesn't care that there is a factual record to rebut his lies-- he knows the Obamamedia won't call him out.

Thanks to Intaglio.

Misprison of a Felony? Unlikely that Obama's mere failure to report a Blago shakedown would itself be criminal -- the case law requires an active, culpable step such as concealment, not mere inaction. Obama might want to take a bit more care, though, in lying about the meeting now.

Doubt on November 5 Meeting: Tom Maguire notes that Blago didn't seem to say they'd met on November 5 contemporaneously, making him wonder about this single report claiming a meeting.

Still, as he also notes, Axelrod previously said they'd had discussions about the Senate seat.

Yet More: KHQA Yanks Their Articles Stating There Was a Meeting: Are they hiding the truth? Or stealth-correcting an error by simply yanking the articles without admitting they got the story about the meeting wrong?

Thanks to CJ.

I think all of it pales in comparison to ACORN stealing the presidential election for Obama. To me, that's the biggest scandal in the history of the U.S.A.

Wouldn't Some Vetting of The Chicago Way Have Been Helpful Before the Election?

Here in PA, Ed Rendell emerged from a filthy Philadelphia political machine without anyone asking questions.

To be more clear: He was running for gov in 2002 when city inspectors were on the stand testifying that they shook down small businesses for bribes as a matter of Democrat political tradition. Rendell had been DA/Mayor of Philadelphia for two decades.

The reason he escaped any questions related to this: The media assumed his political ambition was greater than any temptation for financial fulfillment. That is, they figured he would not seek to benefit financially like the rube Gov. Blog did.

But they tacitly concede Rendell, like Obama, looked the other way. I’ve had email exchanges with Phila. media over Obama and Wright/Ayers….they concede that these men would be career-killers for any other politician, but that Obama didn’t really believe the extreme politics Wright/Ayers sold, he just used it to his benefit.

But no cash was exchanged. That is how Obama comes out of this smelling good. He lived up to the artificially low standards media sets or notoriously corrupt Democrat political machines.

I think it's basically a proven fact at this point that Obama was not engaged in corruption with this idiot.

Scott Turow (yes, that Scott Turow- "Presumed Innocent" etc.) says in an article in the NYT that Fitzgerald got rushed in his investigation of Blago, and bypassed a grand jury to proceed through a criminal complaint against him. Fitz now has only 20 days to either give the guv a preliminary hearing, amounting to free discovery for his defense lawyer, or return an indictment.Turow says that considering Fitz's appeal for information from the public, it's obvious that the case is not "buttoned up", and Blago forced Fitz's hand.

Turow also briefly muses about Fitz's chances of being replaced as United States attorney. If I were Fitzgerald, I wouldn't be making any long term commitments for real estate in Illinois once The One is in office. Same goes for any new governor of Illinois, as most of them seem to end up a guest of the law.

This guy (Obama) could murder a guy in cold blood on national TV and it wouldn't matter. The same story would play that Republicans/Conservatives are the bad guys, and they're the white-as-driven-snow other side.

Obama's supporters include the very same people who were tickled to see OJ get off scott-free the first time, didn't give a flying shit that Obama had ties to a terrorist amongst those other jokers he called friends (and suddenly disavowed as not knowing well), and secretly -or not- love to see bad guys get away with shit. 20 The whole reason why Chicagoans were begging the national media to look into the Obama/Rezko real estate transaction was because it was one of the early indicators that the machine was trying to entangle him in its web whether he wanted to be a part of it or not.

Check the play by play.
Obama buys house with funds from 2nd book advance.  Rezko buys adjacent empty lot on the same day.  Rezko soon sells portion of the lot for a bargain price.

This is the fucking 'alternator' of the Chicago Machine.  It gets installed almost everywhere.  It's back scratching through land deals financed by the banks that underwrite the government bonds and marketed by the real estate agents of the spouses of elected officials.

Obama says he should have tried harder to avoid the conflict.  He couldn't avoid it.  If he turned his back on the machine's drive bys, you're political future is over.

Close. He rose so fast because he ‘allowed the game to be played for him.’

Like his supporter Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) admitted, Obama waded into a cesspool (Nadler was referring to Obama’s former, racist anti-semitic church) and used it to his political advantage, without the courage to speak up.

Big O: Absolutely.  In fact, I'm meeting with the Governor this very afternoon to discuss my replacement in the Senate.

Reporter: Thank you!

Big O:  Like I have time for that small shit.  I'm fucking PRESIDENT now!

**************

Reporter:  President-Elect Obama says he's meeting with Governor Blagojevich....

(Three days later, without bothering to check, since Obama's Word is Gold):

Reporter:  President-Elect Obama met with the Governor earlier this week to discuss the Senate vacancy....

When will these reporters learn?  (I know, stupid question.)

Reminds me of:

Reporter: Do you attend church there regulary?

According to Blago, all the "mother fucker" was offering was "appreciation."  He specifically says "They're not going to give me anything."

Hate to admit it, but I'm agreeing with seattle slough on this one.

Obama figured that Blagojevich would do as he was told, and appoint whomever Obama told him to.  Period.  The quo for that quid would be that Obama would replace Patrick Fitzgerald (ala Clinton) as a regular house-cleaning measure, and thus make Blago's worst problems go away.  (That's what "appreciation" means in Chicago-speak.)  And had Blago simply kept his nose relatively clean from November to January, Fitzgerald would not have made his case.

But, no, Blagojevich is a greedy, arrogant fool.  "I've got something fucking golden!"  Yeah, Blago, your FREEDOM.  Idiot.

KHQA TV wishes to offer clarification regarding a story that appeared last month on our website ConnectTristates.com.  The story, which discussed the appointment of a replacement for President Elect Obama’in the U.S. Senate, became the subject of much discussion on talk radio and on blog sites Wednesday.

The story housed in our website archive was on the morning of November 5, 2008. It suggested that a meeting was scheduled later that day between President Elect Obama and Illinois Governor Blagojevich. KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place.  Governor Blagojevich did appear at a news conference in Chicago on that date.

I weep to say this, but I told you so, multiple times in posts since yesterday. See what Seattle Slough is saying, that my friends is the "reality" that is being painted in the MSM and on the liberal blogs and people are buying it. Obama is the only person who is not corrupt, don't you see, Blago's cussing was evidence that Obama refused to be corrupted. Obama supposedly had a "falling out" with Blago a while ago.

Get it yet? There is absolutely nothing that will stick to Obama. Nothing. They are re-writing things as fast as they can, Emmanuel was wrong they didn't consult on Blago's campaigns. Axelrod "misspoke." KHQA didn't have confirmation the meeting took place so it obviously didn't take place.

By the time this is done everyone will be kissing Obama's ass for exposing Blago. Except for Jesse Jackson Jr. who may be wondering right now why he was left out in the cold (perhaps your daddy shouldn't have talked about cutting off Obama's balls...)

Ace - i mentioned this at Gateway today but since youve posted it it bears repeating: the Nov 5 press release from Blago's office does not say that Obama talked to Blago in person or by telephone about anything.

The release headline suggests but does not explicitly say, the two dudes talked to each other directly. Its a weaselly out, but an out. Take careful note of precisely what the press release says and does not say:

"After congratulating President-Elect Barack Obama on his decisive victory, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced today that he will take his time and use a diverse senior staff made up of key members of his administration who will assist him in selecting a suitable replacement for Obama." - emphasis mine

So Blago gave Obama props on the election, but the press release never says he talked to him. The release also announces that Blago will take his time finding a corruptocrat to fill the seat.

Sadly, the release does not say what any commonsensical person figures took place, which is Obama and Blago talking directly to each other in person or by phone, and discussing which liberal nutbar should fill the seat vacated by He Whose Name May Never be Uttered Except in Messianic Hope and Changey Reverance.

A million "Got Hope?" bumper stickers cannot be wrong.

Ill. governor meeting with Obama today
By Carol Sowers
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:39 a.m.
CHICAGO, ILL.  Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
That's one of Obama's first priorities today.
He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.
Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

You have a point. Obama doesn't seem to have wanted to pay in this particular pay-to-play scheme, which may reflect somewhat well on Obama.

But ... Obama and David Axelrod were both senior campaign officials on both of Blago's runs for office. So here's the question. Is Obama a fiend or a fool? He either knew Blago was corrupt, which makes him a fiend, or he didn't and was so poor a judge of character that he helped foist upon the God fearing citizens of Illinois -- twice -- a manifestly corrupt and foul S.O.B. who thinks of anyone not as corrupt as he is as a "motherfucker." Neither scenario bespeaks well of the lightworker's powers of discernment or allows for much confidence that Obama is capable of avoiding corruption in his incoming administration, whether it should happen by commission or omission.

Here's another rub. Obama is clearly lying about his contacts with Blago about the appointment of a replacement since the election. Why would Obama lie? Doesn't mean Obama is guilty of anything in this case, but it is weird. Why not say, "Yeah, I talked to him, but I didn't know about this pay to play stuff." It doesn't speak well of Obama that his first instinct is to lie even when he doesn't have to. There are photos of the two together at the governors' convention for heaven's sake. You think it slipped Obama's mind to ask a question about who was going to get the Senate seat?

Blago is an "asshole" by your own admission. You should write to Obama and ask him why he campaigned for him. Twice.

Check the indictment- "Advisor B" (my guess- Axelrod or Plouffy Pants) has the answers

The H4 replica watches took replica watches Harrison a massive 13 years to replica watches construct-but this was only the end of a lifetime's work. His genius was clear from the very beginning. Unfortunately many astronomers such as Nevil Maskelyne were convinced that a mechanical solution replica watches would not work and that only astronomy could solve the replica watches longitude problem. The fact that Harrison was from a working class family and had little replica watches formal education probably didn't help his prospects.Solving the longitude problem through horology meant designing a timepiece that could work accurately at sea. However the Board of Longitude demanded a full a transatlantic wholesale watch voyage. They gave Harrison a grant of 500 pounds with which he began work on the H2 watches.
