Dick Turbin calls for special election saying any Blago appointment would not be "credible"

Cutting him loose, covering his ass, putting some distance.

"The General Assembly should enact a law as quickly as possible calling for a special election to fill the Senate vacancy of Barack Obama. No appointment by this governor could produce a credible replacement,"

I'm betting this "special" election would be "special" in that it wouldn't have any republican candidates who might act as a distraction...

OK, well, Jack Ryan was a decent candidate besides the fact that he had some weird fetishes right? I mean, far from ideal, but the Dems are having corruption issues, so they probably want to avoid politicians who are already corrupt, to save embarrassment later.

It is sad that whichever party is the majority has a massive plurality of the corruption. We had Abramoff (well, maybe not quite our guy but he gets associated to us), now the Dems are piling them on.

We just got rid of the worst of them when Stevens lost election - I hate saying it, but I would prefer see the Dems with 60 than have that moron in our party.

Then the US Senate seat stays a safe Dem seat, appointed by the Dem Lt. Gov. And it's not at all clear that anyone would accept his nomination (aside from himself, which would be spectacularly amusing for the day or two it took the Senate to reject him),

Funny thing is, I think we passed a ballot initiative supporting recall here in IL this year. I don't remember if it was of itself binding, but any 'special' election could be special, indeed.

Unfortunately, the Republican default candidate in IL is Jim Oberweis, who couldn't even win Hastert's old seat. On the other hand, I don't think it matters who the Republicans put on the ballot, so long as we can get just one. There were at least 5 Dems referred in the indictment that were seeking the office (minus at least #5 who seems to have offered a bribe), so, in a sufficiently multiway race, we could pick this up. Particularly if we could manage a visit from our favorite Governor of Alaska.

Dick Turdball seems as ignorant of his own state constitution as he is of the US Constitution. Il can't just pass a special election law, it would have to pass a constitutional amendment and that will take many months to accomplish. Of course having one less libtard in the US Senate for many months would be a side benefit, but even the libtards' low regard for rule of law could not get past the Appellate Court level even in Illinois.

So I say, let Blago appoint someone to fill in Obama's seat, say the corrupt female former State Senator, so there would be no dearth of IL corruption in the US Senate. Maybe appoint Jesse Jackson Sr, cause that too would further corruption in the dem state and federal parties. Same with appointing Chicago Mayor Daley, or maybe even Rev Wright as the election shows, alot of Americans agree with his views, so why not give him a Senate pulpit to highlight the loving lessons that our current President subscribed to for a score of years?

There are a few Republican candidates, if they would want to run:

Jim Ryan - former Attorney General of Illinois, great guy, lost to Blagojevich for Gov 6 years ago in a relatively close election. Biggest problem is his last name - no relation to George Ryan, but there were a lot of people who didn't clearly understand that. Same problem for Jack Ryan.

Mark Kirk - congressman from 10th district (north shore of Chicago)

Jim Edgar - former governor of IL (before George Ryan); good name recognition in the state.

Steve Sauerberg and Jim Oberweiss would get crushed by just about anyone with a (D) after his or her name.

As for Republican candidates, although I haven't lived in IL for about 10 years, I can be pretty sure they have screwed themselves royally by not recruiting any real new blood for the past 20 years or so. They got that Republican Country Club Disease. They're worse than the Dems.

The betting among my friends in IL is that Blago will name his wife to the seat. She might be the only one to take it.

He certainly won't be searching for bugs in the Governor's mansion because he hasn't, I believe, spent a single night there.

Either impeachment, special elections, or whatever idiot maneuver is attempted is going to take a long time, not hours or days, I think.

My guess is that everyone is running scared because few, if any, are totally clean in the system, Repubs or Dems.
