Ah, Of Course: Obama Claims No Contact with Blago; Axelrod's Nov. 23 Interview Says There Was Contact; Obama Team Now Says Axelrod "Misspoke"

Magic Bus. Beep beep!

Obama's getting pretty good at denying any contact whatsoever with people known to be close associates.

Flashback: Among his many sudden "I don't even know that guy" claims-- Franklin Raines. And fellow communist Mike Klonsky.

Note that Raines is similar to this new claim-- Raines self-reported being an advisor to Obama on economics, the Washington Post reported it and then reported it again. Team Obama did not ask for a correction.

Until Franklin Raines was linked to Fannie Mae and became a liability. At that point, the famously media-patrolling Obama machine objected that Raines original claim, and the Washington Post's two reports, were faulty.

In this case, Axelrod's statement has been on the record for, what, two and half weeks now. Why is Team Obama only now realizing he "misspoke" after 17 days?

Might it be -- see if you can follow me on this; it gets a little complicated -- that Axelrod didn't misspeak at all, and hence no correction, until now, when Blago's arrested, and it suddenly becomes important to claim Axelrod misspoke?

I know that's crazy-talk. Just throwing it out there.

Obama and Blago's Connections:

Obama Advised Blagojevich On His Victorious Gubernatorial Run. “That year, [Obama] gained his first high-level experience in a statewide campaign when he advised the victorious gubernatorial candidate Rod Blagojevich, another politician with a funny name and a message of reform.” (Ryan Lizza, “Making It,” The New Yorker, 7/21/0

Obama: “If the governor asks me to work on his behalf, I’ll be happy to do it.” (John Patterson, “Senator Says He’s Still Willing To Help Blagojevich Despite Hiring Concerns,” Chicago Daily Herald, 7/27/06)

Obama Endorsed Blagojevich For A Second Term. “Obama, who endorsed Blagojevich for a second term nearly 18 months ago, said he’s ready to help Illinois democrats in the upcoming elections.” (John Patterson, “Senator Says He’s Still Willing To Help Blagojevich Despite Hiring Concerns,” Chicago Daily Herald, 7/27/06)

Obama: “We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois.” (Deanna Bellandi, “Illinois Democrats Talk Unity But Don’t Show It,” The Associated Press, 8/16/06)

Probably half of the democrats in Washington and Illinois have talked to Blag in the past 2 months. Axelrod was pretty detailed to, he didn't just pick that out of thin air.

Obama: "Who is this Blago guy? I've never even heard of him." Wow!

And: “A lot of this is just politics.” - as in Chicago politics. Yet somehow, Obama has never been tainted at all in that environment? Maybe he is a god.

This nonsensical "yes, no, he goofed" excuse is getting long in the tooth. Once he used it for the 200th time, he needed to retire it and come up with something as equally silly that means "i'm guilty as sin but won't admit a thing".

How many times are we going to hear the same old when he gets caught in a relationship he never wanted to see the light of day? Hell, it's getting tough for even the Koolaid drinkers to pretend to buy this again and again and again

The typical Democrat defense: deny it, say it's no big deal even if it's true, and then remind everyone that Republicans do it too!

For example: "Obama never said it. Even if he did say it, so what? It's no different from when Republican X did such-and such back in 2006."

Any Accusations that I might have broken a bitch are not based on my words, and all words that are specificaly attributable to my person are completely misconstrued, it was SATIRE!  and to assume that Wickedpinto, EVERY said he broke a bitch, or has a tendency to break bitches is a complete lie, and taken out of context.  Since, I don't have a staff, I must blame the person with whome the buck stops.  No! not bush, though I'm sure he had something to do with it, so in some ways I blame bush for me saying I break bitches, but more importantly, I want to know WHO! unltimately makes the decisions, and whith whom responsibility lies.

35 CHICAGO— The attorney for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said the governor will be vindicated and he has no plans to resign.

"He didn't do anything wrong," attorney Sheldon Sorosky told reporters after Blagojevich was arraigned. "A lot of this is just politics."

Blagojevich should be in the office Wednesday, Sorosky added.

So, reporters asked, he does not intend to resign?

"Not that I know of, no," said Sorosky, who added that the governor was "surprised" by the day's events.

Also...killing turkey is bad is easier to cover than a very complex corruption prosecution that is too hard to explain. The fact that a SEIU official was acting as an emissary for Obama aide Jarret to solicate a Senate Seat is not in doubt here. Why is a union official, one which Jarret is not nor ever been a member of, acting as her emissary? What made Blago think SEIU could broker a deal? Has SEIU brokered deals on behalf of Obama in the past? On behalf of other politicians? Is this SEIU official an advisor to the transistion team? If not why is he acting on their behalf? SEIU is in this up to their teeth, there needs to be some splaining here Lucy.

And it is much much easier to be a journalist when you have someone or something busy "journaling" away for you... it's like reading a teleprompter and being praised for being a great orator.  You just have to know how to read, and move your mouth in the right way.  And the journalists who are illiterate can get by on just moving their mouth the right way.

Hey folks, check out page 64 of the FBI affidavit....."specifically named individual" = Michelle Obama

Conversation between Blagojevich, Advisor B, a political consultant in Washington, DC, another Washington, DC, political consultant and John Haris, the Governor’s General Counsel, is discussed:

ROD BLAGOJEVICH said that the consultants (Advisor B and another consultant are believed to be on the call at that time) are telling him that he has to “suck it up” for two years and do nothing and give this “motherfucker [the President-elect] his senator. Fuck him. For nothing? Fuck him.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH states that he will put “[Senate Candidate 4]” in the Senate “before I just give fucking [Senate Candidate 1] a fucking Senate seat and I don’t get anything.” (Senate Candidate 4 is a Deputy Governor of the State of Illinois). ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated that he needs to find a way to take the “financial stress” off of his family and that his wife is as qualified or more qualified than another specifically named individual to sit on corporate boards.

66 Why all the concern if the Messiah is corrupt? He's making people feel good.

Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Americans give President-elect Barack Obama high marks for his appointments and policies while expressing skepticism about what he will be able to do to improve their financial situation.

Almost three-quarters of adults say Obama makes them feel “hopeful,” “optimistic” or “proud,” a Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll conducted Dec. 6-8 finds. Even more approve of the way he is handling the transition to the White House, and 59 percent say they have a good idea of where he wants to lead the country.

Even so, more than half of respondents say Obama’s policies won’t help their personal finances, which they expect to stay the same or worsen. And almost 7 out of 10 say he will accomplish only some or few of his campaign goals.

He'll be a useless as shit but we'll just feel sooooooo wonderful about him it won't matter.

68 It doesn't matter what can be proven or what can't be proven.
The leftards don't care and the ones who do care never voted for Him anyhow.
He's going to become President and after the Fairness Doctrine is passed, no one in the press will look at The One without lowering their eyes first.  What Governor Blago tried to do to those editorialists at the Chicago Tribune is nothing compared to what The One will do.
It's not a question of whether the press will ever get tired of covering for him.  Most of them will never get tired.  The rest will have no choice.
The only question is whether the Fairness Doctrine will cover the internet.
At which point, Ace will have to give equal time to hobos.

Like Robert Blackwell Jr., we might remember, who famously obtained 300K in grants for ping-pong tournaments with Obama's help.  Blackwell Jr., a major fundraiser for both Obama and Blago, served in the transition team for Blago.  He also then - "coincidentally" - received a 6 million dollar contract from the State that the State Auditor singled out as suspicious because most of the work was subcontracted for $ 3 mil.

Blackwell Jr., a long time Obama supporter, also employed Obama for a year @ $112,000.00, the work for which has yet to be discovered.  Obama's campaign manager at the time also worked for Blackwell Jr. Obama disguised the payments as work for his law firm.

There is no good reason to disguise or launder payments if everything is on the up and up.

There are many more; if Blago were to turn State's evidence, half the City could go down.

(AP) "Robert Gibbs, an Obama spokesman, said: "We did not know about this recent part of the investigation until today."

In court documents, FBI Special Agent Daniel Cain detailed several phone calls between Blagojevich and his aides that were intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the past month. Blagojevich is accused of conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti. Among his alleged desires: a Cabinet post, placement at a private foundation in a significant position, campaign contributions or an ambassadorship."

Last two grafs from the AP piece at Drudge.  There's only One who gives out Ambassadorships and Cabinet posts, and this is the closest the AP will come to actual reporting that poses any tough questions - just sort of allude to them and let the smart people figure it out, and the other 99% of their readers will be blissfully unaware, just like the AP is paid to keep them.

re #80: You will note that standard AP practice is to bury the items in a list that are damaging  to a Dem deep in the middle of the list, between innocuous ones.  If the was a Republican, the AP absolutely would have put "Cabinet Post" and "Ambassadorship" 1-2.  But they can't go that far without risking punishment, so they took it into merely "naughty" territory and went for 1-4.

You think I'm kidding?  I am not.  Do the math yourself.

97 The breathtaking scope of Tuesday’s Illinois Senate scandal presents President-elect Barack Obama with a direct and immediate test of leadership.

Well since he has none there shouldn't be much a a test.

Between the criminal charges lodged against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the questions raised by the conduct of Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), Obama must decide how bluntly — and how personally — to raise his voice against real-life allegations that epitomize what he has called “decades of broken politics in Washington.”

Raise his voice against the politics that got him where he's at?

Obama faces the kind of moment that John F. Kennedy spoke to when, as president-elect in January 1961, he delivered his “City Upon a Hill” speech to the Massachusetts statehouse.

More comparisons to Kennedy bullshit.

He can't hide anymore-he's the president now! He'll have to answer questions! Blablabla. Then he says that Brokaw had the chance and asked him nothing. Nothing, he says. The media always give him a pass, he says. WTF? These guys don't even hear themselves! Haven't hardly listened since the post election bend-over Hewett and too many "conservatives" have been taking part in, and he says that.

110 Obama worked on Blag's election team for years, they had lots of contact. This is one of the weaker lies, but he'll change his story, give a speech, a few women will faint and the press will decide it is no story any longer.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at December 09, 2008 11:39 PM (PQY7w)

111 Here's what I don't get:

I'm just an average citizen of Illinois, and yet I (and everyone one else here) knew what a crooked douche Blago was YEARS ago. He has been a complete  joke statewide for the past two years as he moved the state closer and closer to financial insolvency and was completely unable to work with lawmakers in Springfield -- especially Democrats like Mike Madigan.

Then there's the little ongoing investigation by the US Attorney's office of Rezko and his buddies Levine and Blago, an investigation which has already produced convictions, including the conviction of the guy who bought Obama's house for him about a year before he declared for president.

How come genius David Axelrod, a lifelong Chicagoan, didn't know this stuff three weeks ago, when the convictions happened months ago? Instead, he was shooting off his mouth on television about how chummy The Lightworker was with Blago, chatting on the phone about matters as serious as the question of The Lightworker's replacement in the US Senate? And why would The Lightworker have anything to do with hand-picking a successor anyway? Shouldn't that be a bit more independent of a decision? And Axelrod and Obama are supposed to be some kind of geniuses. Now I see why they brought in Emanuel. He thinks circles around these two clowns.
