Call in Gay to Work Day!

Anti-Prop 8 protesters have a new stunt. Let your employer know how much he depends on gays as workers... and how flighty and unreliable they can be!

10 >In a tight job market this seems umm...what's the word I'm looking for here?  Retarded, yea, that's it.  Retarded.<<

Well, that's the first thing that came to my mind.  In the current job market, why would anyone with a brain go out of their way to become conspicuously absent from work for no good reason.  It just screams out "I'm the one you ought to lay off."

But, in a word, and you stated it so clearly and succinctly:  Retarded.

53 Shortpants, you should be banned.  As well as committed.

Don't mistake our stupid jokes here for hate.  We joke about people who need ridicule.  Most of the time, this means ridiculing those who ASSUME they can speak for a group. (i.e. activists)

You know know what happens when you ASSUME?  Yep, it makes you a shithead.

Posted by: WonderWartHog at December 09, 2008 12:19 AM (LVT6e)

66 WonderWartHog,

I don't particularly have a problem with hating individuals. ( humans almost universally deserve it)  I just think most groups get defined by their loudest, most assholiest members. (If you've never been embarrassed by someone from your "group" attempting to speak for you, I would think you a rarity.)  Just remember, that group you "hate" may not be who you think they are.

Posted by: right at December 09, 2008 12:20 AM (EquV1)

67 Although, if you do hate them specifically for being gay, then I guess they are who you think they are.

Posted by: right at December 09, 2008 12:23 AM (EquV1)

68 right.
I can't argue with what you said.  But I don't like gays getting all (pardon the phrase) 'in my face'.  And I think their sexual habits are vile.  I don't hate them like Shorty does, but I don't mind him saying it.

Posted by: WonderWartHog at December 09, 2008 12:24 AM (LVT6e)

69 The last thing gays want is to take any responsibility for their orientation.

80 that sounded wrong, im not for gay bashing at all. in fact i dont believe in gay discrimination, but what i have seen is a bunch of gays discriminating against a voting majority and using thuggish tactics to enforce it. that is bad. and my point is that if gays want to use that tactic then they shouldnt cry about when eventually the majority says enough is enough. and thats what im worried about. one day people are going to be sick of being bullied by a minority and decide its time to fight back. and then all the morons with guns and weapons will over-react. thats my point.

87 In the end we all see people that have different tastes than us as weird.
Some of us may like fat chicks
Some of us may like fat guys
Some of us may like older chicks
Some of us may like older guys
Some of us may like really thin chicks
Some of us may like really thin guys.
The list is almost infinitesimal.

The point is it is weird for any of us to get hit on by the types we don't like.If they ask once and walk away it is no different than me asking 90% of hetro women to dance. The problem comes in when I go stalker on those women. This is the political gays going stalker IMHO. I don't care about their lifestyle I just don't want it forced into my head.

The word infinitesimal should be infinite.

Posted by: Buzzsaw at December 09, 2008 12:49 AM (MOdlB)

93 also, if i sound belligerent its because i am. i tolerate gay people. i have gay friends, well two gay friends. i accept their lifestyle is a part of our society. what i dont accept is them shoving their culture down my throat and being vindictive that the majority doesnt coalesce to their value system. they have gotten progressively more aggressive in the past 8 years and that can be attributed to numerous social dynamics that are often discussed at this site in different contexts, regarding different political topics. but its all related. if you are fine with being supplicated in the guise of tolerance while being simultaneously made to feel guilty about who you are, well thats your business, i have no such desires.

Are you saying no matter what info you tell them you should be golden?

Posted by: Buzzsaw at December 09, 2008 01:06 AM (MOdlB)

103 alex, im not advocating violence against you at all. my point was that im afraid that the environment of "gay bashing" will become more prevalent the more militant type anti-prop 8 people become the norm. i thought i made that clear but i guess im retarded.

Posted by: shortpants at December 09, 2008 01:07 AM (QOLHC)

104 shortpants - I might not like how you said it, but you actually articulated a position I have been staking, namely, that such aggressive tactics will lead to a backlash.  I do not support those Prop. 8 idiots and I believe there is a deep strain of religious bigotry finally being revealed in public.  When people are being attacked, especially about something as deeply held as religious belief, then people will respond.  Does that make it right?  No.  But it is an obvious consequence.

I'll admit, I am more likely to remain closeted in public now due to concerns for personal safety and because I don't want to spend the time explaining how those jackasses do not speak for me.  It makes me very very angry that those who claim to be for "gay rights" are the ones who are throwing me back in the closet.  And, yes, I do blame the activists for putting the match to the tinder.

105 Shortpants, do these two gay friends "shove their culture down your throat" or is it others, i.e. activists?  If these two personally known examples from the group do not try to coerce your beliefs, perhaps you are mistaken about the larger group and should instead focus your scorn on the real source of your irritation, the political assholes we see on the media regularly.  I assure you, had I been present when a little old lady got assaulted by some prop 8 protesters, (or any kind of protesters, {there is just some shit you don't do}) I would have pounded at least one of those queens into a pink pulp.

I'm going to out myself here to a point since Bible study isn't really AOSLS.
But in our discussions at bible study (I have way wicked problems I need to resolve) the other more believers got on this because of it being in the news. Their opinions were less than Christian IMHO but they were honest. They really don't want to look at how attraction is what attraction is not a complete choice but only something that we can push sometimes  to an accepted level. I know that which gives me that tingle isn't a choice but there are things that will get me close that are within my reach. (supermodel vs normal). That makes it easy for me since though I still am compromising my wants I still appear normal.  I'll stop here since this is getting long.

In a tight job market this seems umm...what's the word I'm looking for here?  Retarded, yea, that's it.  Retarded.

Some of the leaders of "the gays" have come to the same conclusion and have been speaking out that this is a really bad idea.

If they were to insist on using Sick Time for this stunt, would they be claiming homosexuality is an illness?

I work for a school district.  A few years back, there was a high school teacher who was a loon.  She was so paranoid that everything that happened in her room was a threat to her.  She was always complaining about imaginary sleights.  One day, a kid got up to sharpen his pencil and she wigged out.  She started accusing him of sexual harassment for looking at her.  She went to the office and demanded that something be done.  Of course, they investigated and found out that the kid hadn't done anything.  The teacher got mad and went home.

Another teacher (a screaming hard-core liberal) ecame OUTRAGED that the principal didn't support his teacher and told everyone that she was going home in solidarity with her colleague.  She immediately marched down to the office and put in for a personal day.

Talk about making a point and standing up for your principles!

Me:  Well, it really doesn't have anything to do with them.

My Boss:  Ok, does this mean you aren't going to work today?

Mr:  Well yes, that was the plan.

My Boss:  Tom, you can be gay any day you want, and we really don't care, that is your choice.  You can also choose not to go to work any day you want, we'll just choose not to employ you.

You nailed it, in more ways than one.  Here's now:

1. The only people who can get away with this are the ones who work for guilty liberals who sympathize with them in the first place.  Hence, their action will have no impact.

2. The only people who would make an impact are the in-the-closet gay people who work for those who think the world would be better-off if all the gays simply died.  I'm talking about "evangelical" Christians and a few commenters on ace.mu.nu.

3. If the in-the-closet gay people did do this, then they would be fired, so they won't.  Hence, their inaction will (obviously) have no impact.

The "in your face" gays are a problem. The ones who go about their lives like the rest of us do are NOT a problem. It doesn't bother me in the slightest to see a same-sex couple out and about, doing the same stuff the rest of us do - shopping, working, socializing, etc. If they're dressed inappropriately or screeching about their RIGHT to act/dress in a way that is problematic, then, yeah, *that's* something I take issue with.

137 AngelEm claims: "I don't know anybody BESIDES GAYS who are obsessed with gays."

thatguy claims: "Only in your warped mind"

Christians are fucking obsessed with homosexuality.  If you want to hate on teh gay, then you should become a Christian or a Muslim, since both of those religions actively support and encourage that behavior.  How do I know this?  Because Christians say things about gay people, and I listen to what Christians say.  (But I hate it when they talk with their mouth full of the flesh of their lord and savior.  It's rude!)

Sure, I don't know anyone who is obsessed with it.  That's because I don't hang out with asshole, dickhead Christian pieces of shit, and there are about 30 million of those pig-fuckers in the USA.  Congratulations, you don't hang out with Christo-douchefucks.  Does your good taste prevent them from being obsessed with homosexuality and using the force of government to punish gays?

Please examine the statistics here for a concrete example:

http://www.conservapedia.com/Special:Statistics

Which page ranks top?  Another Christian obsession: atheism.  The main page is #2, and homosexuality is #3.  Everything else is distant in popularity.  Indeed, Christians ignore gays wholly and have no problem with them at all, right?

Wrong!

Consider the issue of sin.  Christians hate sin, right?  Not really.  Some sins they actively embrace (wrath, gluttony) while others they truly do hate (homosexuality).  Christians don't have organizations called, "Americans for Truth about Gluttony" or "Americans for Truth about Bearing False Witness" like they do "Americans for Truth about Homosexuality".  Christians don't draw up laws to punish drunkenness, gossip, and gluttony they way that they created sodomy laws to imprison gays.  Do you remember Lawrence v. Texas which destroyed sodomy laws?  Christians were fucking pissed about that!  Do you think they feel any differently now?  My gay ass!

Still the militant gays, hands down, liberal media propaganda notwithstanding. Especially here in California.

So you believe in tyrants in black robes who reverse themselves on a non-constitutional whim in less than a decade. Bowers vs. Hardwick (sp?) Stare decisis? Public Health Interest? What's that? Enough said. If you want to legislatively fight to overturn sodomy laws, go for it, but I am sick of "progressive" judicial tyrants. (Some of us might point out that facilities and establishments for multiple partner anonymous sex are very bad for public health, of course.)

Would you like to kill a gay man if you had a good excuse to do it?

I think you are missing the point. Lots of decent and honest people are asking, "If "they" (meaning militant gays) went away and it meant the end of political agendas dampening business, the end of petty legal squabbling, and the end of the current thuggery and terrorism of militants, gee, wouldn't that be great?" (No, I am not singling you out. You are clearly not one of the militants. As you yourself point out, "this stupid calling out stunt is, er...gay.")

Lots of decent and honest people are asking, "If "they" (meaning illegal aliens) went away and it meant the end of overcrowded schools, less crime (because rootless young men of any race are a major source of crime), state budgets in balance because there are fewer net takers of public services, and less drug trafficking across the border, wouldn't that be great? Somewhat more expensive hired help and produce at the supermarket are a small price to pay for all that."

The point is, lots of decent and honest people are asking, "Wouldn't a world without militant troublemakers (of all colors and orientations) be just grand?"

156 Depends on what retail you're talking about.  If you're talking about a man working in the men's department at Bloomingdale's, yeah, he probably is a queer.  If you're talking about retail sales of plumbing or hardware supplies, guess what, he's either straight or a really lousy salesman, since he probably knows jack shit about his product.  I realize that a studly information security engineer (electronic paper pusher) like you probably doesn't even know that plumbing supply stores exist.  Hell, you probably thought those gun-toting redneck plumbers probably made pipes out of spent ammo.  Well, guess what, those plumbing supplies get sold like everything else.

Posted by: Ken at December 09, 2008 01:14 PM (An7lw)

157

Oh, and FWIW, your Bloomingdale men's department paid queer probably loses more money than he makes.  Why?  Because men really get annoyed by some lisping sissy flaunting it at his job.  The same goes for hairdressers too.  Even though I'm an old-fashioned type, I actually think it's a bit excessive the way some men demand that they go to a barber for a cut, when a hairstylist will charge the same and give you the same cut if you ask for it--but I won't let a male hairstylist do it.  I don't let queers paw my scalp.  And I'm sure a lot of others feel the same way.

I'm beginning to sense tag team mobying.....

Yeah, I'm a moby, since there's no way that a conservative patriot could actually be passionate about his beliefs, instead of joining the debate club.  (Yes, I'm being sarcastic).

Luagha, why don't you exercise your 1A rights at the local Marine recruiting office?

Let me guess... Plumber? And you may have picked one of very few items that gay men dont sell, but trust me, retail means what women purchase mostly... remember men dont like to shop. And I own a home and I do most of my own handy work and I could hold my own in any home improvement or construction conversation. Sounds to me like youre jealous and bitter.. pick the wrong career did ya BillyBob? (oh man, I coudlnt have even picked a better name)

157   no arguments there..

158  Yeah, not just Navy, Army, AF, Marines, Seals, MPs, and even secret service...  heres a thought for you: Its commonly a personal sense of inferiority and insecurity that leads men to join the big bad armed forces and service roles.. (why do you think they are marketed that way? when in reality they are mostly lemmings who coudlnt handle civilian life unless someone told them every move to make) but its really just one big ego fluff. Why the hell would gay men NOT want to enlist?

and since the term Moby is only well known on this site and this mindset, youre going to have to explain it to me... even after an exhaustive Google I cant find the definition.

It seems clear to me that you all dont like to stick to topic. Whether or not gays "put anything in your face" was not the topic of this thread. But somehow you use that as an argument to everything as if that trumps all.

So allow me to back away... I dont like arguing with people who arent skilled at it.

oh one last point. I Guaran-fuckin-tee you that very few responders on this site have issue #1 with lesbians in every day life, but its the gay men they cant stand, and its mostly men that have a problem with it. Why is that? Insecurity in your own manhood. So instead of bitching and moaning about what we are doing with our lives that doesnt affect you, go fix your own problems and you wont even notice us.

Yep, moby.

Most servicemen and former servicemen I know kick ass in whatever civilian job they've gone into.  Most of the guys I know signed up out of an honest love of country.  A couple went in just for the college money and free classes while in.

Also, just got done with 4 years full time retail (going back to school), straight, and don't know any gay guys working retail in the area other than the one at the shoestore 3 stores down.

but its the gay men they cant stand, and its mostly men that have a problem with it. Why is that? Insecurity in your own manhood.

Try more like I don't like seeing people hanging all over each other and giving each other tonsilectomies with their tounges, regardless if they're gay or straight.  And it tends to be the gay men who come up and flaunt it in our faces, when most of us couldn't really give a shit if they just kept it in private.

If you dont like seeing guys kiss... stop going to the gay bars...

I sincerely doubt you have to see men kiss very often, or even seldomly. I live in one of the top 5 biggest citys (full of gays) and am GAY and I dont even see it that often. Of ALL the things wrong with this world, are men kissing really that high on your list of things to stop? And actually, without realizing it, you sort of backed my arguement up. Thanks.

And again you have proved that you like the word Moby but you failed to tell me what it means to you. The only thing I can surmise is that maybe it means someone who thinks gays are superior?  I wont agree with superior, but I will say we can deal with a hell of alot more shit than you narrowminded assholes can, and still work hard and succeed and be happy in spite of it all.

Damnit, so much for not responding...

Irregularly Fucking Guy:  all I can do is repeat what I said to another of you guys:  tell your opinions at the local recruiting office.  Or just a blue-collar bar.  While you're at it, state your opinions of plumbers (and, I'm sure, anyone who does menial labor).  Hey, we're just here for the benefit of you philosopher queens, so you can spend all day sitting on your asses pretending to have a job (which, by the way, you only have through affirmative action.  Must be nice, being a white male and still getting a free ride).

But who am I to criticize?  You're the Information Security Engineer.  I'll bet you beat up lots of online burglers, you being security and all.

A moby is someone who first comes in pretending to be friendly, then opens up with trollism. (see all military = lemmings with a penis inferiority complex, breeders, etc.)

And as for the guys who got out of the service: try communications (one works on satalite relay equipment), history, teaching, programming, "industrial art and design" (designs company logos), engineering, architecture, and one's a mechanic.

And yes, a few went into retail; something wrong with that Mr. I'mgaybutiprotectyourinformations?

I've run into the gays making out in public.  It's not frequent, but it happens -and tends to be the same 2 couples when I see it.

My major problem is the "let's get in everyone's face" attitude some seem to have.  Prime example is the shoesales guy.  When I've been in there (they're the only place in the area that sell non-skid shoes at a decent price) he's always making comments about guy's asses and how cute this guy at the bar was last weekend, then flips out about gay-bashing if anyone even looks slightly perterbed.  I've also worked with others -one in food service and the other in technology support, in case you were wondering- that would bring up how homo they were every couple of hours, and couch it in some way that would supposedly raise other employees' Christian ire.  One, the tech support guy, even admitted that's what he was doing when I called him on it.  After a month he decided he hated the job and decided he was trying to get himself fired by one of the department managers so he could claim sexual discrimination.  It didn't work so he just stopped showing up and got fired for too many abscences; then had the gall to try to use our supervisor as a reference for his next job.

(which, by the way, you only have through affirmative action.  Must be nice, being a white male and still getting a free ride).

yeah, no affirmative nothing, no one knows I am gay here. You are apparently confusing your hatred of gays with your hatred of blacks. Shocked.

and I have nothing against plummers or any other profession for that matter, it was actually a joke that it was the only example you could come up with... see it was YOU-centric, not plummer-centric.

Isn't it interesting how that same man could say the same things about a woman, and he'd be fired, sued, or arrested?

But gays are discriminated against, don't ya know.

Ok, I see your point, and I agree that its inappropriate behavior. it would be unappropriate behavior if he was checking out and commenting on girls asses too though, and hopefully youre not a hypocrite and will agree. And I do agree that as soon as you make it known that hes being offensive he will probably throw the gay bashing card. Which is also bullshit.

See, I am a normal guy, I am involved very little with the scene and the usual gay themes and goals. Believe me some (ok alot) of it makes me ill too. But, I dont think its cool that your feelings towards the freaks in your face and those with no boundaries has to make my life more difficult just because I want to spend my life with a man, behind closed doors.

See there are some good points being made on this page, and some really crappy weak ones, and even some jokes that I can see are jokes (Warthog's shit comment) but at the same time, those can also be used to discriminate, belittle and hurt.

I dont want to marry a guy. I dont want to ride on a rainbow float. What I would like more is for the general public to know that the rainbow-float-riding, assless chaps wearing, swishy lispers checking your ass out in the shoe store took it upon themSELVES to represent us as a whole. We didnt vote them in, and they speak way louder than we do. I live in a neighborhood with familes, and I go about my business, I dont hurt anyone, and I dont make anyone uncomfortable. If you met me on the street you would swear I played football in High school and had a bluecollar job and fucked the shit out of my wife every night. I dont bother to tell you otherwise...
But because of Bruce from shoe barn, I am looked at as a detriment to this country. How is that fair? They are a minority within a minority (or maybe I am) and like I think so many of you know, youre never going to shut all the loud ones up....

Isn't it interesting how that same man could say the same things about a woman, and he'd be fired, sued, or arrested?

But gays are discriminated against, don't ya know.

Oh lets call a spade a spade here Brian... if he was straight, and checking out a girl's ass verbally, and was in the company of all straight men, no one would do a friggin thing.... and they would probably all jump in the Suburban and head to the strip joint. If a woman heard it there would most likely be followup. And this comes as a surprise to men. ("Whoa, swetheart why you getting all pissed?")  So are you saying the situation for a woman to put up with female sexual harrassment isnt as disturbing as when you guys only witness gay sexual harassment?
What you are actually saying with that line above is: Damnit, they get to ogle and be sexually agressive with each other and we cant!  Youre not worried about the poor guy whos ass is getting checked out, youre just pissed because women started rules which curtailed your beast-like adventures.

Posted by: regularfknguy at December 09, 2008 04:00 PM (XBiZW)

177 No, I'm pissed because a passer-by calling a guy out for making lewd comments about a woman is "doing a public service", and a passer-by calling a guy out for making the same lewd comments about a man is "a homophobe".

Are you so fucking blind that you can't see that?

I mean, it's bad enough that women can make all the lewd comments about men that they want, and there's fuck all anyone can do about it.

Homosexuals aren't looking for equality.  They're looking for the same privileged position as straight women.  That is, they have all the same rights as straight men, but they don't get called on any of their shit, and any failure they happen to have is directly attributable to the nearest straight white male.

Either sexually-explicit commentary is acceptable or it isn't.  Just because it comes out of the mouth of a woman or a raving queen doesn't buy it a pass.

Posted by: brian at December 09, 2008 04:14 PM (aLMAl)

178

177

Well I dont subscribe to the rules that you mention. I have actually never seen "Homo-harassment" in person so... I would think its rather scarce. And the person who actually stands up for the other guy is probably even more scarce...

And I really dont think that gays have or want more rights that straight men. maybe some.. but not all. Thats what I am saying here.. not all blacks love watermelon, not all gays are obnoxious about who they are.

Posted by: regularfknguy at December 09, 2008 04:30 PM (XBiZW)

179 not all gays are obnoxious about who they are.

That's as may be, but whether you voted for them or not, they have become the public face of all gays.

Just as Hamas has become the public face of all muslims.

When normal members of subgroup X refuse to stand up and shout "you do not speak for me, douchebag!", then you oughtn't be surprised when people think that all members of X are douchebags.

Anyone who has expectations of anything but mediocrity from Obama is dreaming.

At best, he's going to be remembered for nothing other than breaking the color barrier.  He's no Jackie Robinson.  Hell, he's not even Donovan McNabb.

None of which changes my original argument.  You are judged by the company you keep.  And in the era of identity politics, "the company you keep" has been expanded.

Those on the left wanted to pursue identity politics so they could become more powerful.  Well, now that whole thing is getting in the way of individualism.  How's that working out for ya?
