Media Totally Okay with Big Obama Party

obamaridingunicorn1.jpg

Obama on his way to the inaugural. (Artists conception)

Remember all of those stories in 2004 in which the media and the Democrats encouraged President George W. Bush to tone down his party because we were at war, and tsk-tsking about the fact that donations bought access?

That was then. This is now.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Unemployment is on the rise. The stock market is in the tank. Is this any time for a party?

For the sake of the masses of people expected for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, let's hope so. While Obama must be sensitive to the nation's time of war and recession, there's still reason to expect a rollicking time.

"We're mindful of the fact that people in this country are hurting, that they're going through hard times," said Linda Douglass, spokeswoman for the Presidential Inaugural Committee. "On the other hand, we see this not just as a celebration of an election, but as a time for people to come together and celebrate their common values and shared aspirations and goals."

Get that? When Republicans are being inaugurated in tough times, they have to be sensitive so their parties don't offend the sensibilities of the American people. Barack Obama's inauguration, though, is a needed balm for our shattered national psyche. It's a chance to heal and come together.

As for the cost, I wonder why Obama doesn't save a few bucks and do some recycling.

1 Lots of double standards going around now. Expect it to continue.

Remember when the economy was softening before Bush took office? Whenever he said anything about it, the Dems accused the President-elect of "talking down the economy". Yesterday, Obama said the economy would get worse before it got better, but no one criticized him for the same transgression.

2 What do you mean  BO is not into recycling?  He has recycled his entire cabinet from the "evil "Bush and" politics of failure" Bill Clinton(except for a smattering of unicorn lovers)...isn't recycling the CHANGE we were promised??

4 Is there nothing this man can't do?

So, just wondering here, how long after the inauguration do I get the letter telling me where I go to have my car retrofitted to run on unicorn farts?

7 The Democrats are all about recycling...

after all, they recycled the American Flags from their convention so the Republican's could use them at theirs..

To ensure mild weather for the Inauguration Party, Obama's people are sending Al Gore to Caraccas for a global warming event.

IOW, the DC crowd, who party all the time will continue to party. Seriously, when don't these people come together to drink, eat, and screw?

New York Slimes 2004  Bush parties too high cost.

Washington Post 2005 (jan)  Bush parties excessive for war time.

These kinds of articles abound. LOL, just more reminders that the news media being in the tank for Dems is nothing new.

Yes, sublog has the goods here.

16 I expect nothing less than full blown hypocrisy from the media for the duration of at least four years.  After senator Obama's inauguration, terrorists could detonate a neutron bomb within an American city and the msm would editorialize that it was a good thing, that this will lead to a "brighter" tomorrow for the community.

I have evolved from being not surprised by the double standard hypocrisy of the MSM to expecting it.  Frankly I will be surprised if the hypcrocisy doesn't happen.

A mean little part of me will watch with a smug little smile when the lying, hypocritical, cheating ways of the political liberals and MSM come back to bite the butts of everyone that voted for, supported and ignored the wrong doings of the above-mentioned.  It will bite us all, but the smart ones (that's us) will expect it and be more prepared.

NPR this morning lead with Barry "showing impatience with Bush administration".  Then they play Barry saying something like: "Um congress um er is doing a good job of er um you know looking to do something for Americans hit by the recession, but um there is no err progress on bailing out those who can't pay their mortgage, and um we ere need to do better than that there."  And the wrap from the announcer is something like Barry is "clearly not waiting until the inauguration before building his team and taking charge".

I don't know why they bother with the bullshit reasons why it goes up and down. No one is believing any of it, Dem or Repub. 33 I'm making a point of harshing any mellow about Barky's elevation to saintishness with that exact same point. I found it most effective to affect the oh-so-concerned fake earnestness that our lefty friends have spewed the last 8 years: 'Oh, but in these dire economic times, with two wars, it just doesn't seem appropriate to have such a large party!'
Add in a smug smile and a head tilt, and watch the frothing begin! Fun at parties!

34 When Republicans are being inaugurated in tough times, they have to be sensitive so their parties don't offend the sensibilities of the American people.

Sheesh, it wasn't that long ago when the MSM was regularly pillorying Reagan and Bush for throwing el huge-o inauguration parties during periods of high umemployment, and how this was rubbing it in the faces of poor, hardworking Americans, and how could they be so insenstive, blah, blah, blah. And now, not so much.

One of our consolations for losing the last election is the fun we're going to be having pointing out the hypocrisy, double standards, and disappearing/migrating goalposts over the next four years

Posted by: OregonMuse at December 08, 2008 12:05 PM (FO+YO)

35 The main difference, of course, is that when Republicans do it, it's THEIR party, and thus, "we", the normal Americans can only look on with envy and disgust. When Democrats do it, it's OUR party, so we just party along.
