Republican Challenger Defeats "Cold Cash" Jefferson

In a year when national Republican fortunes took a turn for the worse, Louisiana delivered the GOP two seats in Congress in elections delayed by Hurricane Gustav.
Indicted Democratic U.S. Rep. William Jefferson was ousted Saturday from his New Orleans area district, while Republicans narrowly held on to the seat vacated by a retiring incumbent.
The wins followed Republicans' reconquest of another House seat earlier this fall that had been lost to Democrats.
In the 2nd Congressional District, which includes most of New Orleans, Republican attorney Anh "Joseph" Cao won 50 percent of the vote to Jefferson's 47 percent and will become the first Vietnamese-American in Congress. His only previous political experience was an unsuccessful 2007 bid for a seat in the state legislature.
In the 4th Congressional District in western Louisiana, Republican John Fleming squeaked past Democrat Paul Carmouche in the race to replace retiring 10-term Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La. Only a few hundred votes separated the two.

2010 is looking better. Obama's braindead legions will apparently only turn out in force when Obama's on the ballot. Combine that with the likelihood of Obama failing to solve issues as promised, plus the general out-party-wins-seats-in-a-midterm effect, and we could do some serious damage in 2010.

9 We can do some damage in the House in 2010, but if you look at the senate seats that are up that year it would take a 1994-like tsunami for us to pick up more than one or two seats. Oh, and we have a few endangered seats to defend then. At least Florida is safer now with Martinez out and Jeb Bush (hopefully) running.

Hold off on LA-4, the Dem is not conceding because of the provisional ballots available; we could very well lose this race if the absentee ballots don't go our way. That's how Stevens lost even though he was up by 3,000 on election night (not that we are too sad about that one unless you wanted the 'Cuda in the Senate).

Cao winning was a dream come true but the dems could take lessons away from LA-4, which is to nominate extremely conservative dems. This Carmouche guy claimed to be 100% pro-life and pro-second amendment. This race should not have been a 365-vote lead. I can see the dems nominating in 2010 nothing but veterans and D.A. type characters that run on our platform in certain states.

The Chambliss victory (moreso the surprising margin of victory than the actual victory because a loss would have been absolutely devestating) is something we can draw upon for the Senate as the stop-60 message will be powerful in 2010. Guys like Cantor, Pence, and Ryan have to put their heads together and form an equivalent message for House members.

I'm seeing a better opportunity for an Alamo-like stand in the Senate than the House; these dems seem to have figured it out in the House better than they have with the Senate.

Wouldn't that mean we've won? I mean I count myself as a Conservative, rather than a Republican, and as such am quite happy to vote for my Rep (Lipinski), who voted against immigration reform and the bailout (twice). I think Pelosi/Reid/Obama are in for a nasty surprise when they find they can't get their agenda passed because these conservative Dems aren't really with them. And if they flip, Republicans get the seat on the next cycle.

Jeb is a great choice, he was pro-life, pro-gun, pro-military, pro-school choice, he was one of the charter members of PNAC the neocon assembly. For that he was trashed mercilessly by the Dems in '94. Yes he's still against drilling off our own coasts; but find me some one who isn't in this neck of the woods. He's 100% improvement over both Martinez and Crist (next time, I'm voting for Gallagher)

The next two years are gonna be tough. Obama's hands may be tied economically, but you know he's gonna pack the courts with fellow travelers, and don't ya know his nominees won't have any trouble sailing through confirmation. So we're gonna have to make sure 2010 is a massive sea change at all levels, so that we can roll back his appointees' policies.

That being said, there's alot of reason to hope. We've got good candidates, Republicans are finally getting it through their pea-heads what they've got to do ( a painful process as new ideas hurt those tiny brains), and awesome issues to run. We've got two black guys running to head the party. Although I'm not sure about Blackwell. But the best part is that Obama isn't on the ticket, and the O-bots don't have the mental focus to vote in off year elections.
