Think about it: Math is a language, both like and unlike any other, that can be used to describe the physical reality around you and the theoretical boundaries that characterize it.

If you've "spoken" the language from an early age, yes, math comes naturally.  But for many people, math is an alien tongue that they've never immersed themselves in.  There are exceptions, of course, like some people who can pick up Spanish and German within a few weeks of talking.
