This is a Freakin' Joke, Right? Atlantic's Marc Ambinder Presumes to Judge the "Legitimacy" of Inquiries Into Obama's Citizenship and Birth Certificate

As Goldfarb notes: This is the same Atlantic whose most prominent blogger/lunatic has been "investigating" Alaska hospitals to determine where and when Trig Palin was born, and to what mother.

I realize there's a thing called professional courtesy towards a coworker. But when Ambinder is taking a shot at Human Events for merely running a paid ad from a third party on the topic, is he not obliged to note the wackiness emanating from his own magazine?

No?

We're just pretending that never happened, huh?

So let me get this straight: It's improper to ask a presidential candidate (now president-elect, of course) for a document proving the constitutional prerequisites for office, but it's proper to demand "proof" that Trig Palin came from Sarah Palin's womb?

Does the Constitution have a heretofore-unknown clause forbidding Fat Suit Fake Pregnancy Changeling Babies?

Big Funny: A blog devoted to nothing but proving Trig is not Sarah Palin's baby.

No, not Andrew Sullivan's blog. He also dabbles in establishing his own church.

As Jim26 says, this woman analyzes pictures of the pregnant Sarah Palin like her belly was the Grassy Knoll.

2 The funny thing is that Goldfarb actually states, with a straight face, that Ambinder is a straight shooter that both conservatives and liberals can listen to as a sage and even-handed voice of reason in a sea of loons.

However, if this is a typical example of this Ambinder fellow's evenhandedness, I think you can scratch conservatives off that list.

3 Ambinder is well respected by Republicans and Democrats

-No he's not.

Well, probably by the McCain/Collins/Snowe/Kennedy/Pelosi branch of the party, but not by conservatives.

In fact, I don't think there's anyone in the country who's well-respected by Democrats and by freedom-loving Americans.

6 I think the dear Mr. Ambinder is a brilliant, creative thinker and just the kind of level-headed, fair-minded person we need in journalism today.

For an example of Trig Trutherism in its most extreme form, look at this post by the Palin Deception people, titled "The Nail in the Coffin". The author goes on and on dissecting some photo of Governor Palin like it's a picture of the Grassy Knoll or something.

The author was talking earlier about having to consult with their attorney before presenting this "evidence". Hee hee.

Check out this comment left by one of the Truthers there:

Speculation: I can think of ONE indisputable proof that Sarah Palin was not pregnant during the latter part of 2007 and the first part of 2008.

Her DNA from bloody tampons... (yes, I know, ugh)

No wonder she insisted on living in Wasilla.

If she'd been living in the Governor's Mansion, there would be someone else emptying the garbage from her personal powder room (which would obviously not be Bristol's or Willow's -- and I think we can logically eliminate poor Piper from the discussion).

Posted by: Jim62sch at December 04, 2008 05:12 PM (zYagu)

13 "The Atlantic is still a great magazine with a lot of great content, and in some quarters it may still have the kind of credibility to decide what is or isn't an acceptable avenue of discussion..."

OK, we can all have our own parameters to what exactly defines "great," but Goldfarb is waaay too conceding to say The Atlantic has, even may have, such credibility on acceptableness. Trig Trutherism™ pretty much puts an end to that lie. Sure, Goldfarb is being congenial here, but he really need not be. Idiocy and journalistic malpractice need never be inadvertently defended via subdued critique. Slay the beast and just walk away. Wagging your bare cheeks at the carcass wouldn't hurt either.

It's not the blog itself that scares me, but that there are commenters there that actually believe all this shit. I went to get a haircut today, and the girl who cut my hair was a Trig Truther. Except for the fact that she is clearly LEANING FORWARD AND WEARING A GIANT FUCKING COAT! Try that shit sometime. Put on a coat that is 2 sizes too big for you, wear other loose clothes and then take a TWO DIMENSIONAL picture from the front. Michael Moore would look like a Kenyan marathon runner.

39 I only ask because it's sort of on topic and I don't know.  What is the alternative to Obama being Constitutionally eligible?  I mean is there some doubt that his mother is his biological mother?  Is there proof that his mother was pregnant when she got married, or are we just assuming it because that's the story he grew up with?

I was under the impression that you're a citizen if either of your parents is and that 'natural born' was to differenciate those from immigrants who'd been granted citizenship.

Methos

The Donofrio case on Obama hinges on the issue of dual Citizenship, US and British. (there also is an Anti McCain piece of the lawsuit too)

Donofrio feels that when the Article II of the Constitution was written, it was written to prevent a foriegn (mostly British) Citizen from becomin POTUS.

Donofrio feels that "Natural-Born" excludes persons born with a dual citizenship. It doesn't matter what soil or planet the birth took place. He claims that Obama was born a dual cititzen in XYZ hospital to a US Mommy and a British Daddy.

The birth certificate (BC) is just another piece of evidence of a British Daddy. Donofrio doesnt appear to dispute the legitimacy of the BC (Berg does). He says the Secretary of State needs to look at all the evidence before certifying the results of NJ. Historical note, Kenya was a British Colony until 1963, Obama was born in 1961.

Sayin that, it has a (per Volokh) about 80/8000 chance of being taken by SCOTUS as a case to hear. Thats 1 in 100 or 1% chance for math challenged trolls and morons. Slim chance at best, and its a politically charged issue too.

Before someone calls me a truther, i don't think its going anywhere, the conference call is usually a trash can ploy.

I just have one question:
  - What is this for?

Even if they believe this; even if they prove it -- what's the point? It looks like a whole *lot* of people caught up in the activity of proving their suspicions, and if they succeed -- what's been accomplished?
