AP Projects Chambliss Win; 60-40 in Early Tabulations

Thank goodness.

With the filibuster-proof majority now out of reach, hopefully there is less temptation for Harry Reid and his gang of criminals to vote Franken into office despite, you know, losing the election and everything.

My African-American mother-in-law runs a hair salon and restaurant in Atlanta.  She, her customers, and other members of my wife's family could not stop talking about getting out to vote in November.  Not a peep about Martin in the run-off election.

67 Well, that's a great win, and I'm glad to have one more dependable "R" in the Senate, but the turnout was barely half of what it was in November (2 million v. 3.9 million). And Chambliss' total was only about 60% of what McCain got (1.2 million v. 2 million). So a lot of Republicans didn't bother voting, either.

It's going to be a long battle back for the Republicans, I'm afraid.

79 The whole filibuster thing is a crock of shit anyway.  Its trivially defeated procedurally by simply waiting it out and allowing every senator who wants to speak his allotted hour.  After all the opponents speak, and they've presented their two possible amendments, that's it.  Time to vote, game over.  Other senate business grinds to a halt during this period of course, but defeating filibuster really is just a waiting game.

Its not a threat to defeat anything, its a threat to waste everyone's time.

Posted by: Purple Avenger at December 02, 2008 11:18 PM (CwzFE)

80 Bad news: There are too many RINOs already in the Senate.  They won't support a filibuster unless President-Elect Obama is a complete fool.  He should get what he wants.
Worse news: Franken is still "finding" votes.  Fraud.
Even worse news: After the Democrats put a majority of people on Public Assistance, grant amnesty to illegals, organize voter fraud more effectively, and blame President Bush for everything wrong, the GOP isn't coming back.  One party rule is here to stay.

Wake up people: 51% of the public gets direct support from the state, and they've discovered that they can vote themselves rich.  Welcome to the United States Socialist Republic.

media bullshit and scared Dems. The upside to the blatent bias by the MSM and the Dems that are afraid do help-They simply do not know when to quit while they are ahead. The believe their own clippings and just can't stop themselves. In a quest to undermine her again, they really brought more attention to her campaigning for Saxby. That Martin got his ass kicked but good and she helped, says alot. Had they simply ignored it rather than to try and undermine her, not as many people would have been paying attention to the race at all.

There comes a point when the spin and bias surpsses "over the top" and hits " the Holocaust is a myth that never happened" level. Huzzah!

"With the filibuster-proof majority now out of reach, hopefully there is less temptation for Harry Reid and his gang of criminals to vote Franken into office despite, you know, losing the election and everything."

Ah, but that would require standards and ethics - foreign concepts to Harry Reid and the like.

93 I was just watching Fox about a previous 137 votes "found". This is crap and any instances of suddenly discovered votes is going to be investigated no matter who the votes are for-and ivestigated by more than the usual "it favors my party" investagators. This issue has gotten national attention. This is not the time to screw around with fraud. And for what, Al Franken? Dems should be nervous having this major asshat in the Senate. He will do more damage than good for them

I expected a Chambless win but not by this much. This really shows what the value of the McCain anchor was and what the value of Obama was, particularly in States with a large black population.

Too bad this doesn’t do any good as Chambless is not a real conservative AND the Dems already have their needed 60 votes.

Presidental 52% to 48% is called a "landslide". So 60%-40% is a total ass shalacking but you'd never hear the MSM saying that.

Just another reminder to people what a real landslide actually is instead of the "dumb as a box of rocks" media definition.

When I first got up tonight I went to the Atlanta Journal to get the numbers. They wouldn’t even list them.

97 Isn't it generally true that voters split, on the whole, about 33% committed Left, 33% committed Right, and 33% "Independent?" If it's even close to that kind of demographic breakdown, the Donk won practically none of the middle. That's a pretty God-awful performance for the Left.

And to think, that's after Palin flew in to campaign for Chambliss and further boost his opponents numbers. Imagine if Palin hadn't shown... Chambliss could've won 99 to 0!

The GOP really needs to dump that anchor.

98 enter sandman @12:  AD, this Bart asshat smells like Christoph in another name but probably just another asshat.

Excuse me? Christoph believes in the right to life.
This Bart creep seems to be one more apologist for the right-to-kill movement.

99 What it tells me is that black turnout is for black candidates only.

I've been boring my husband for weeks with my "the dems will never run another whitey again" theory. Their last winning formula, run a "centrist" southerner has been played out. Now it's going to be "run the articulate brown guy" for the next two decades or so. Joe "crazy pants" Biden is off the ticket in 2012, hello Deval Patrick or some other comer with the right skin tone.

I also wouldn't be shocked to see that crap sandwich McCain switch parties. He's only stayed a republican this long because he soooo desperately wanted to be president.

"With the filibuster-proof majority now out of reach,..."

Hold off on the end-zone dance. With 58 Democrat senators, the ability of RINO senators such as Collins and Snowe to command a large payoff for defection from a filibuster grows very large -- and we have an incoming Administration notoriously devoid of scruples about such things.

Never underestimate the power of political cupidity.

That anchor is kicking ass bigtime. If Chambliss could have had those kind of numbers there never would have been a runoff in the first place. Undeniable her presence campainging for him gave him a big boost and the MSM and Dems trying to  undermine her really backfired on this one. Had they not made a BS stink, not as many people would be aware of her presence and how she helped Chambliss kick the living shit out of Martin. It just makes more people aware that she is a force that is a vote getter.

I do love the fear of winning she inspires from the MSM and Dems though. They are right to be afraid, though they hide that fear very poorly.

A one vote margin is hardly safe. We need Coleman in there, too. Obama will get most of the things that he wants, within reason. But the GOP holding these seats will help prevent nationalized healthcare and crazy shit like that.

Conservatism works every time it's tried. McCain was not a conservative, period. So some conservatives stayed home. Game over. I don't give a fuck what ACU ratings and the media say about him. 30 years ago, he would have been in the mainstream of the democrat caucus.

107 Congratulation to Chambliss and the people of Georgia, but I'm still not happy about being in a position where we have to hope thieves CHOOSE not to steal.

Now it's up to the people of Arizona to dump McCain...

108 To Bart at 84 & 86: You're wrong here. Run-offs have historically lower turnout because you are only voting for a few candidates instead of a full ballot. Also, run-offs are lower post a regular election day because of political wear. Living in GA for the past month, we've still been in the height of pre-Nov. 4th campaigning. Where the rest of the country ha moved back into their sitcom-loving, Walmart shopping, happy hour routines, we've still been in election mode and that gets old - even for the most political citizens.

Saxby's turnout was representative of the GA electorate. Had Martin had a single message or been a candidate with greater appeal than a dirty bandaid, the Dems might have had a shot. In the end, Palin won over Obama tricksters T.I. and Luda. The Palin events were spectacularly orchestrated. Big turnouts and lots of headlines. Martin's appearance with T.I. and Luda garnered less than 200 participants and the stage awkwardness alone resulted in less media coverage.

To MrDIe at #102: Yes, we Georgians are a bunch of smart, tough as shit political junkies. We can talk smack and promote our ideals better than most morons. Georgia's got game.
