Palin Is Still Packing Them In...This Time In Georgia On Behalf Of Saxby Chambliss

Tomorrow is the runoff for the Georgia Senate seat. While lots of Republican names have shown up, Palin is still the favorite of the base, she drew about 2,000 people to one of her rallies.

Several Republicans have campaigned for Chambliss, including one-time presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. McCain campaigned in the state last month, but only Palin was tapped for election eve and four Georgia stops, reflecting her star status. Tommy Byler, 22, of Savannah marveled at the size of the crowd Palin drew compared to other top-tier Republicans who have campaigned for Chambliss.

"I went to see Mitt Romney a week ago, and I think there were only about 100 people there," said Byler, who wore a T-shirt emblazoned with Palin's face and the words "Sarah Palin Is My Homegirl."

All the polls have Chambliss up over his Democratic challenger. A Republican victory tomorrow will end any hopes the Democrats may have of getting 60 Senate seats.

After tomorrow the only Senate race outstanding will be the Coleman/Franken race in Minnesota, which is apparently looking good for Coleman at this point. Of course that's only as far as actual votes go. Franken may take the race to court where anything can happen.

Meh. It's not like we can count on the senior senator from Arizona (among other RINOs) to vote with the R's.

4 I just got back from the Saxby/Palin rally here in Gwinnett County about 30 miles north of Atl. Looked to be a couple thousand people inside the Gwinnett Conv. Ctr. I have several pictures on my crappy camera.

Saxby introduced her and she spoke for about 15-20 mins or so & then went down into the crowd to sign autographs. I thought Saxby was going to speak some more after her speech but as soon as she was done speaking people started to exit. There was a sizable crowd trying to get autographs and I don't know how long she stayed and signed for them - my kid was hungry and wanting to leave.

She made a joke about Martin campaigning with Ludacris today.

Glad I took the time to attend.

This is why in a nutshell it should be Mitt Romney who runs in 2012!  /GOP logic

Her status as what? A shill for this chicken hawk. Chambliss is a draft dodging piece of  shit who got four student draft deferments, and when his number finally came up, he was medically disqualified because of bad knees. He smeared Max Cleland, a man who lost three limbs in service to his country by calling him a "weakling who would turn the country over to terrorists" in order to win the Senate seat he is now calling on Palin to help him keep.

I guess being a draft dodger only matters if you are a Democrat and being a patriot only matters if you are a Republican.

13 Ag4:

Palin spoke about Saxby being the one vote that will prevent BHO from going to the extreme left (paraphase). Said Saxby will vote fairly not strictly down party line, he has good judgement. She mentioned the need for lower taxes, etc.

Went into Energy Independence and how we need to stop sending our $ to countries who do not like Americans. Develop our resources here. That went over big.

She also mentioned that Saxby will vote to protect the unborn and mentioned special needs children.

Her "theme" was that the rest of the country is going to be watching GA tomorrow & how Ga was on her mind....

She mentioned McCain and how McCain campaigned for Saxby and how McCain was a fighter - blah x 3. About McCain -she said that even in defeat he got right back out on the campaign trail and wanted to help Saxby out. I would have prefer she not even mention his name...however, when she did I don't remember any applause. She did it quickly and in my mind I would like to think that she was doing it out of respect for him. She's much classier than that ole fart.

Encouraged us all to vote for Saxby tomorrow.

She gave a "Sarah" speech for Saxby. The audience was a quieter audience but that's just because we are all a bunch of middle aged people in Gwinnett Co. :-)

Anyone else in the audience today?

14 The biggest drag of the campaign was McCain and not Sarah and her down to earth Reaganesque style. McCain was about as ready to be a conservative as Bre'er Ludacris is to do Shakespeare: In Harlem, no less.

"Hark, what light through yonder window breaks?"
"Yo, Biotch, that weren't no light, that was a 9mm, mah brutha, and you best get yo shit out my bidness 'fo I has to bust a cap all up in yo stank ass, word" Sayeth Lord Ludacris.

Jokes aside, as far as I can tell McCain ran the worst Republican campaign in the last 25 years, easily eclipsing McDole/Kemp because Kemp while smart as a whip couldn't build abig enough crowd to fill a Gremlin, much less a Convention Center, like Palin.
Let's face facts: Even if Coleman, a RINO in good standing, and Chambliss, at best a moderately conservative Republican win, we can count on Grandpa Grumpy and his gay chaperone, Lyndsey Lou Grahamnesty to cross the line and vote like good wannabe Democruds.
I fail to understand how South Carolina keeps sending Lyndsey Lou Assmunch bck to the Senate when the other guy from there is Demint, as good as they get these days.
I gave money to all of these campaigns and I hoped to see better out of the tired old man McCain, but the only thing I can see making it better and preventing another McCIn style RINO ass whooping in '12 is going to closed primaries where the ass bandit left can't get into our business and start voting for pansy ass pussy faces like McCaniac.
We're sweating this one out, with Chambliss. because of open primaries and that crotchety old asshat McCain, when we should be sitting pretty inside  the WH (and a humbled ) Jug-eared Southside  Messiah settling back into leftist Senate obscurity and continuing to vote 'present' like a careful, conscientious marxist should. Basically a repeat of Kerry And Breck-Bitch in 04.
If we had Thompson, or Romney  and a bit of fire from the ranks, Jug-Eared Jesus was beatable, but never realistically by McCaniac.
Like Ann Coulter said,"Hillary Clinton is more conservative than John McCain",
and she turned out to be prescient.
I hope we have learned a lesson as a party, but probably not...

"Troll cleanup, aisle 3" She was right on all the issues, which she won't bother to say I told you, when the consequences of stupid policies bear fruit. Maybe Saxby will remember to dance with who brung him back; that's a qualified maybe. You can be sure, Jim Martin doesn't have a clue, he was a John Edwards supporter; epic fail. She is classier  most than the whole rest of the party, and she doesn't complain, which wins you a lot of street cred for the future. No one really likes a whiner, she didn't get to where she has been by complaining. That is why she'll prevail.

Don't waste too much drool on Cleland's knob; yes he was "in service to his country" when he lost three limbs but it didn't happen on the battlefield.  He was fucking around with a grenade when it happened.  He didn't receive a Purple Heart for it.  If that's your standard for heroism I guess you're against criticizing kids who fuck up with fireworks, especially if they're shilling for unions to screw up homeland security jobs.

For those that weren't there, they opened the rally with a dedication prayer and the US Pledge of Allegiance.  A few of the  local and State elected officials said a few words, Senator Chamblis and wife were introduced, said and few words and then Palin came on to speak.

The general theme was "get the GOP back on track with conservative values", generally Pro-Life, Pro-2A, Pro-Smaller Federal Government and vote Saxby.

The crowd was diverse, old ladies on walkers, large families, plenty of babies, young people and school aged kids to 3-piece suit professionals. No stinky patchuoli sniffers were present that I could see.

So Cleland was in Viet Nam, debarking a helicopter, picking up a grenade that he believed had dislodged from his flak jacket because...

Waiting. Still waiting.

Because the 2nd of the 12th Cavalry was engaged in a combat operation at the time of this incident. Max Cleland was with the Battalion Forward Command Post in heavy combat involving the attack of the 1st Cavalry Division up the valley to relieve the Marines who were besieged and surrounded at the Khe Shan Firebase. The whole surrounding area was an active combat zone. Cleland, the Battalion Signal Officer, was engaged in a combat mission that had been ordered to increase the effectiveness of communications between the battalion combat forward and rear support elements: which was to erect a radio relay antenna on a mountain top. By the way, at one point the battalion rear elements came under enemy artillery fire so everyone was in harms way.

Cleland getting off the helicopter saw the grenade on the ground and instinctively went for it. Why? Because combat soliders do not leave grenades lying around on the ground. Also the grenade was another soldiers by the name of David Lloyd, who had failed to bend the pins and tape them to his jacket to secure them. He admitted it years later.

But does the ownership of the grenade matter?

Oh by the by, Cleland was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for valorous action in combat, including during the Battle of Khe Sanh on April 4th, 1968. So I guess Chambliss calling him a weakling and saying he would turn the country over to terrorist wasn't really a smear.

But let me help you with that determination. I will provide you with a timeline of the Viet Nam war during a three-month stretch from February, March and April of 1968:

February 23, 1968 -- Over 1,300 artillery rounds hit the Marine base at Khe Sanh and its outposts, more than on any previous day of attacks. To withstand the constant assaults, bunkers at Khe Sanh are rebuilt to withstand 82mm mortar rounds.

March 6, 1968 -- While Marines wait for a massive assault, NVA forces retreat into the jungle around Khe Sanh. For the next three weeks, things are relatively quiet around the base.

March 11, 1968 -- Massive search and destroy sweeps are launched against Vietcong remnants around Saigon and other parts of South Vietnam.

March 16, 1968 -- In the hamlet of My Lai, US Charlie Company kills about two hundred civilians. Although only one member of the division is tried and found guilty of war crimes, the repercussions of the atrocity is felt throughout the Army. However rare, such acts undid the benefit of countless hours of civic action by Army units and individual soldiers and raised unsettling questions about the conduct of the war.

March 22, 1968 -- Without warning, a massive North Vietnamese barrage slams into Khe Sanh. More than 1,000 rounds hit the base, at a rate of a hundred every hour. At the same time, electronic sensors around Khe Sanh indicate NVA troop movements. American forces reply with heavy bombing.

April 8, 1968 -- US forces in Operation Pegasus finally retake Route 9, ending the siege of Khe Sanh. A 77-day battle, Khe Sanh had been the biggest single battle of the Vietnam War to that point. The official assessment of the North Vietnamese Army dead is just over 1,600 killed, with two divisions all but annihilated. But thousands more were probably killed by American bombing.

April 8, 1968, was also the day that Captain Max Cleland lost both legs and an arm. He had less than a week earlier already earned commendations for heroism during some of the bloodiest combat of the whole Khe Sanh siege -- combat missions for which he had volunteered, so as to relieve stranded Marines and Army infantry. The order in which the President awarded him the Silver Star reads:

"Captain Cleland distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 4 April 1968, while serving as communications officer of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Calvary during an enemy attack near Khe Sanh, Republic of Vietnam.

"When the battalion command post came under a heavy enemy rocket and mortar attack, Capt. Cleland, disregarding his own safety, exposed himself to the rocket barrage as he left his covered position to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. He then assisted in moving the injured personnel to covered positions. Continuing to expose himself, Capt. Cleland organized his men into a work party to repair the battalion communications equipment, which had been damaged by enemy fire. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army."

So David Alexrod I guess you should practice Ann Coulter's talking points on a smaller blog.

The irony of course, is about a quarter century later, he came to the defense of Cindy Sheehan, whose son, Casey, a real hero, service was being denigrated as a waste or a a tragedy. The siege of Khe Sanh, was a victory, unremarked by the media; who wanted to ignore the efforts of those who fought there. the likes of Walter Cronkite who gave up much too soon. Just like Fallujah, was a longer victory in coming, also derided by the media. This is the point, to the left, the American soldier is either a victim or some deranged killer. That was the voice of Kos and Huff Po; by extension that's the voice that Jim Martin allows to endorse him. Remind me again  who said we were 'air raiding innocent villages,' and "terrorizing Iraqis in the dead of night". Who slandered the men of the Kilo 3/2 over Haditha, having ignored their service in Fallujah, and never apologized for their mistakes.

And, did Cleland, or did he not, in violation of practices pick up a live grenade that then blew off his limbs?
