MSNBC Anchor Wonders Why Obama's Election Didn't End Terrorism

Not just drinking the Kool-Ade, but eating the concentrated powder, too.

ALEX WITT: You know, John, and it’s interesting because there are many who had such an optimstic and hopeful opinion of things, and you certainly can’t expect things to change [snaps fingers] on a dime overnight, but there are many who suggested that with the outgoing Bush administration and the incoming Obama administration there would be something of a lull in terrorism attacks. There had been such a global outpouring of affection, respect, hope, with the new administration coming in, that precisely these kinds of attacks, it was thought — at least hoped — would be dampered down. But in this case it looks like Barack Obama is getting a preview of things to come.

JOHN YANG: He’s — it’s a rude awakening, a very, sort of, sober reminder of what he’s going to be facing in just a few weeks. And there is some concern also, there had been some concern, that during this period, during this, the transition period, between Election Day and Inauguration Day, that the enemies of the United States, those who don’t care for the United States no matter who’s leading it, would try and test the United States, would try to take advantage of this period, and I think that may be one thing that we’re seeing right now.

They're trying to take advantage of the American presidential transition by attacking the Indian city of Mumbai? Really? They imagined the American transition would discombobulate the Indian security forces? How? Are Indian police currently disorganized as they await fresh orders from Washington?

In addition to being six shades of stupid, let me also note the, um, arrogant Americentrism on display by these idiots. Pakistan and India have fought three wars since Pakistan came into being; Pakistani terrorists frequently kill Indians in large scale terrorist attacks.

And guess what? This has nothing to do with American policy. It is not a protest against Guantanamo or Iraq. It has to do with -- if I may be allowed to speculate -- tensions between Pakistan and India. And of course Islamic terrorists' general desire to murder anyone nearby.

Of course these drooling imbeciles aren't really Americentric. Rather, they are Bushocentric. They are so deranged they reduce every act of terrorism to a commentary on the Bush Administration -- because those are the only terms they are capable of thinking in, they assume everyone else shares their single-minded lack of perspective and imagination.

Correction: MSNBC Anchor, not CNN.

As another reader said, tomato, tah-mah-toh.

3 This douchewaffle honestly thought that "hope" and "affection" and "love" were going to stop Islamic savages (the same ones that bombed WTC in 1993 with the intention of destroying it - during the "era of Clinton love/hope/freedom/peace") from doing what they've always been doing? Even - perish the thought - BEFORE GEORGE BUSH AND IRAQ? Like on 9-11?

That should be nominated for a "Stupidest, Most Uninformed, Most Blatantly Delusional Thing Uttered By Someone Claiming To Be A Journalist" Award in the category of "willful blindness and infatuation caused by Obama's perfume-like butt fumes."

It hasn't dawned on  anyone in my former newsrooms that the reason these folks in other nations might have been full of love for Obama might have been because now there wouldn't be someone keeping an eye on them and not afraid to bring the lumber.

Every time I think "maybe I'm missing the news business", something like this happens to remind me that I don't.

8 That whole America is directly, indirectly responsible for the Mumbia terrorist incident is a big meme right now with the uninformed and teh internet.

However, the belief that an incoming president, even if he is the living embodiement of hope and change, would be enough to divert a well planned terrorist operation, that was likely planned a year ago, is touching reminder as to the sheer scope and size of the community based reality the major news networks live in.

These guys demonstrate that education does not indicate intelligence.

19 I was watching CNN Friday morning.  (My wife likes it.)  The basic tone was that Obama has been great during this crisis even if he has been hampered by not actually being the president yet.  Biden told us that he would be tested.  He has been tested, he has passed with flying colors, and all is right with the world.

I wish I would be praised incessantly for doing absolutely nothing.  The tremendous response that CNN was referring to, apparently since they mentioned no other, was that he "kept himself in the loop" by making two phone calls to the Bush administration.

20 Wow.  Such stupid, stupid people, breathtaking in their vapidity.

And, polynikes, the others are right:  George W. Bush is not really a conservative.  He's much more of a centrist-liberal in the honorable sense -- a pre-Pelosi capable of common sense style liberal.  He allows himself to get a bit muddy-headed when he starts feeling "compassionate" and too easily confuses government charity with compassion.  He's the kind of guy that I could have lost an election to if he were a Democrat and not lost too much sleep that night.

A good man, a fine man.  Not really a conservative.

Once the shock wears off, cooler heads will "correctly assess that The Citizen Of The World can't fairly be held responsible for the 8 years of butchery and tyranny that his predecessor unleashed on the world"...wrongs that will take at least The One's entire administration (plus a day or two) to undo.

23 It is kind of hard to understand if Bush has a liberal core with conservative influences or vice versa. Bush definitely has a love for this country and its people, and he understood the responsibility to defend us, but he had more difficulty understanding the task of government. Our first clue should have been his unwillingness to veto anything.

And, polynikes, the others are right:  George W. Bush is not really a conservative.

Yeah a liberal would  have passed more and bigger taxed cuts than Reagan.  A liberal would have withdrawn us from the ABM treaty over much outcry from both parties, a liberal would have let the AWB sunset and prevented the government from collecting the names of gun owners, a liberal would have issued those business friendly executive orders, a liberal would have appointed John Bolton to the UN and Alito and Roberts to the Supreme Court, A liberal would have defied the UN and prosecuted the liberation of Iraq and Afghanistan, a liberal would have passed the Patriot act , a liberal would  have doubled the number of border patrol agents, signed the fence legislation and used the National Guard on the border. A liberal would have prevented embryonic stem cell funding.  A liberal would have refused to meet with Arafat. A liberal would have said what he meant and did what he said.

Posted by: polynikes at December 01, 2008 02:36 PM (m2CN7)

35 Bush is still a great leader in the ways that count most.  He shifted gears hugely when we were attacked, and his steadfast resolve saved the world, in my opinion.  He has protected this country regardless of popularity.

I can't stand compassionate conservatism.  I didn't vote for Bush in his first primary.  But he's certainly proven himself as worth of the office as practically anybody who has held it.  I would have gladly accepted the domestic spending BS if he only had the ability to speak clearly.  I think his inability to defend his actions was his main problem (and perhaps no one could win with these traitorous media assholes).

Now, the Democrats have blamed Bush for their Fannie Mae disaster because of Bush's completely unconservative 'solution' to it.  Many in this country think Obama is qualified for leadership because they've been lied to and Obama has never faced any scrutiny.  He'll be called perfect no matter what happens.  If things are good he gets the credit, even if it's something that happened yesterday like winning Iraq.  If anything goes bad, it will be Bush's fault.

I think the time for missing Bush has already come.

55 "W" has been a journeyman Prez for whom I'm glad I voted twice.  As has been said very well he should have sat on Republican spending and villified the Dems for their pork barrel projects.  The media made that impossible, and let's be honest, "W" was busy with other issues.  This bailout is a huge scam that frightens me to my core.  How can a "plan" be prepared over a weekend for an entire financial segment when it takes months to develop a five-year strategy for a single equipment line here, for example?  Also, not a conservative issue but the immigration situation is going to die down with our economic woes but someone needs to put a boulder on that air hose once and for all.  We need qualified immigrants.  That requires systematic and integrated systems and processes on a grand scale.  If Washington would offer their RFPs to software purveyors outside the beltway, we might actually see some progress.  I've worked with one of the major military developers and will tell you, they are not up to snuff.  One supplier does not a sample make, but suspect it's an indicator of a greater theme.

It was a double attack against:

1 India (targeting a part of Mumbai where foreigners / tourists congregate, thus hopefully wrecking tourism; attacking its growing ties with the west--India's economy is booming, Pakistan's not so much)

2 All Non-Muslims, especially Jews and Americans (who to Muslims amount to the same thing).

The torture of so many before they were killed is in keeping with the Koranic / Muhammad-era view of non-Muslims as non-human.

This means non-Muslims can and must be slaughtered like animals. If Muslims' fave method of beheading takes too long, torture will have to do.

The Lightworker will fix it, though. Why, he's going to invade Pakistan next month.
