| Alert: Police Patrolling NY-DC Amtrak Axis Armed with M-16sThe world's economic fears were violently pushed aside on Wednesday by another global threat -- terrorism. A massive coordinated attack was launched in Mumbai, India just hours after the FBI warned that Al Qaeda may be targeting New York's subways and railroads. If Al Qaeda terrorists have their way there will be chaos and mayhem here this holiday season, a mass transit bomb plot that would probably affect all the subway and train lines at Penn and Grand Central stations. "The threat is serious, the threat is significant, and it is plausible," said Congressman Peter King, R-Long Island, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee. Uniformed officers, including this NYPD Counter Terrorism Squad members and Amtrak cops with M-16s, flooded Penn Station Wednesday after the FBI said it had received a "plausible but unsubstantiated" report that Al Qaeda operatives discussed a plan two months ago to bomb New York City's mass transit system. The report said: "These discussions reportedly involved the use of suicide bombers or explosives placed on subway/passenger rail systems." Sources told CBS 2 HD the plot involved the Long Island Rail Road. If the explosion went off in Penn Station, the source said, it would affect transportation of Amtrak's northeast corridor between Boston and Washington, LIRR service and New York City subway service. "This is definitely linked to Al Qaeda and they had very significant details about exactly how they would carry out the attack, where they would carry it out -- that's what makes it sound so plausible," Rep. King said.Remember the days of "I question the timing" after every quite-plausible terror alert was announced? I give thanks for the Lightworker. Now that he's President, the world is safe for vigilance against terrorism once more. It turns out it's no longer such a "fictitious threat." Thanks to WilliamA. Comments1
They're out there, and they're coming.

These guys have been in and around Grand Central and other locations for several years. A few times I've seen them swarm in, but never found out what prompted it. I kinda started going the other way.

Maybe if President Bush would just resign an ask "The One" to forget about the constitution and take his place now, the world would love us and leave us alone. And, I want him to start paying for my gas and mortgage! Kemp Posted by: kempermanx at November 27, 2008 09:40 PM (2+9Yx) 4
Whats the point of an M16 in a dense urban environment? Are they trying to scare the terrorists or reassure the sheep?
Dogs and knock-down, shoot-to-stop weapons I want to see a no closed bag and "purchasing this ticket implies consent to search" rules. Posted by: Jean at November 27, 2008 09:44 PM (HVRSA) 5

Remember the Clinton days? We're going back to them. Starting January 21st they won't be allowed to carry loaded weapons. Unless they're snatching little Cuban refugees or raiding people who believe in God and just want to be left alone, that is. Posted by: Tinian at November 27, 2008 10:07 PM (Ohodx) 7
"Whats the point of an M16 in a dense urban environment? Are they trying to scare the terrorists or reassure the sheep?"
Your concerns about collateral damage are justified, but the fact is that if they're carrying anything less they're going to be outgunned. Terrorists have no concerns about collateral damage. Posted by: RayJ at November 27, 2008 10:24 PM (o2Td/) 8
I used to clean my guns every September 11. (I'm a gifted, crack shot, so I don't need to practice but annually at the range.) Now I'm thinking it needs to be a quarterly thing. Along with practice. At least for peace of mind. Posted by: Michael Rittenhouse at November 27, 2008 10:26 PM (RhBT9) 9
Remember the fool who decided to act suspicious the day of and after the London transit bombings? MI6 took him out.
This may be a chance for NYC to take out all those turnstyle jumpers and creepy guys with booster coats. Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. Posted by: Remember the Kat-Mo! at November 27, 2008 10:27 PM (falCl) 10

I would guess they're using an M-16 variant that has a fire select switch, meaning they're probably in a three-round burst mode. And if these guys have been trained to shoot people in the head, it doesn't matter much that it is "only" a 5.56mm round. One pull. Three rounds. One dead terrorist. The MP5SD would be less likely to stampede the local moonbats though when you're working in a crowd. With a nice heavy subsonic 147 grain round, it would be pretty quiet and still mess up terrorist skulls pretty good.
One of the local ranges was renting one of those (they had Walther MP too) and it was pretty quiet with some Winchester "Law Enforcement Only" 147 grain stuff I had. Posted by: Purple Avenger at November 27, 2008 11:13 PM (vIdk6) 12
Ace, It will be along time before we hear "I question the timing..." whenever I heard the newsreaders say that, or a politician, I wanted to scream. What has Bambi said about these attacks so far? What IS his plan to keep us safe? I wonder if the Democraps will continue their "..What terrorists?" act ala John POS Edwards. I hope people are paying attention. It seems as if Bambi winning the election has boosted the morale of the terrorists. Hmmmmm how can that be?

Yeah they are out there but..... A bombing in India just puts everyone on high alert. Is that really what they want? For an event to happen to get people giving scrutiny to catch them before they can do something in the subway? Unlsess of course it's a distract thing, to keep them looking at the subway and not the real target, whatever that may be

His plan to keep us safe is the Governor of Arizona as the head of Homeland Security. That's great if we are attacked leaf blowers and by rake wielding and Mexicans that want a job. Anything else, don't expect survivors. Will the Lightbringer have his Rainbow Unicorn Guard carrying hoof adapted M16s and or nearly prehensile-lip-operated SIG Sauer Pistols to keep the hopey changey peace during his Term of All- Encompassing Peace and Universal Joy?
Or will they have to hire mouth-breathing military types that Rahm(en Noodles) Emanuel might know from his time in Israel, to keep the hopey changey peace and joy? Just wondering. Posted by: enter sandman at November 28, 2008 12:11 AM (GrhA6) 20

wow Amtrak police must have advanced leaps and bounds in the last 3 years. I never saw anything resembling an m-16 there, other than other PD's with them. Back in 2005 Amtrak's solution to terrorism was require us to wear day-glo yellow vests with 'Police' on it. Hmm, maybe I jumped ship too soon. And to answer another question, Ol' plugs did take Amtrak, but he got on further south at the Wilmington Station. Pretty sure he's no longer doing that.

You know...
After the Murrah Federal Building got fucked the NG got called up. I was there. They were on station in Will Rodgers' Airport w/ their M-16s and M4s. It was a formidable sight... for anyone that had never seen a loaded M-16 (or variant) before that day. They were guarding the security checkpoints in the airport w/o magazines in their weapons. I gotta be honest.... when I hear about those that are supposed to protect us on patrol w/ M16s it has never meant the same after that day in '95. Just sayin'. Well, yes, that would probably be better than an M16 in a crowd or at close quarters, which is supposed to be one of the considerations in the design of the M4. Isn't the MP5 (or similar) the weapon of choice among European cops? I seem to recall pictures of Italian cops fielding what looked like MP5's. Actually, it was a crappy knock off Beretta in 9mil. Total crap but could put out a wall of lead. My last duty station was in Italy and we used the local care bears range until we got our own. I let them shoot my M9 and I shot his weapon. I would go with the AR-15 myself too for the range, use a side arm for closed in work. You can count me as an idiot that doesn't see any connection between the terrorism in Mumbai and Obama's election. I have read that large scale terror attacks are planned years ahead of time and involve months of training. There has not been enough time since the election on November 5th for this particular attack to have anything to do with who won that election. Would the terrorists have canceled the attack if McCain had won?
Posted by: klrtz1 at November 28, 2008 04:18 AM (U+UDP) 31
Oh yes. Anyone living in or near New York City orWashington, D.C. had better understand that these are the two golden target cities for the bad guys. We can pretend that it isn't going to happen, but we would only be fooling ourselves. I was in downtown Washington, D.C. on 9-11. Tookme three plus hours to go less than five miles to get out of the City. Washington canot be evacuated easily because of the Potomac River and narrow streets. Manhattan is worse.
Posted by: Accursed Tower at November 28, 2008 06:10 AM (aeLTb) 32
klrtz1, what in the hell are you talking about?
Obama is unable to handle terrorism. That's the point of the comments about him. We realize he isn't the root cause of terrorism. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have a lot of blame to share, and Bush has a lot of credit for stopping the trends they created, but Obama won't be blamable until he lives down to my expectations. We can still be critical of Obama without blaming for this. Posted by: shill at November 28, 2008 06:46 AM (8jYMc) 33
What did you expect? I'm the fucking idiot who thought McCain was sexy and a good presidential candidate.

Yes 31, not long after the 2004 elections I went down to DC for a party. The party host was a well connected affluent chap with a large family in a large expensive house in Northwest DC. Our host, a pleasant well meaning man and pious Catholic, had gotten his start in life working as an aid to some lefty Democrat on the Hill. At one point during the evening, our host was going on with a small group about how it was immoral for the US fight the war in Iraq on the grounds that it is better to fight the terrorist in Baghdad, the Iraqi capitol, than here in the US. I wondered what one earth was this man thinking with his children living in a capitol city that had already been targeted for mass murder and terrorism! Moreover one of the guests in this conversation, a government attorney, wouldn't hear a bad word about CAIR because she was acquainted with another woman lawyer, a Muslim who worked with CAIR. This female guest explained that lawyer for CAIR was such a nice woman ...
Sadly, hope-n-change may well grant these two an opportunity to test their arguments. I just hope their minor children grow old enough to attend out of state colleges before any terrorist strikes. Just because the Left has deconstructed the GWoT and scapegoated Pres. Bush it does mean that Jihad doesn't have plans for kaffur. Posted by: Mike O'Malley at November 28, 2008 10:26 AM (/6IUK) 38

When the media report police are carrying M16s it probably just means a they are carrying a longish weapon that would look pretty strange in a wildwest movie and no knife-ish looking stickee pointee thingee on the open end.
If they can't, and they can't, tell the difference between a broke down shotgun and an automatic rifle, how can they hope to recognize the differences amongst all the Colt AR variants/copies/knockoffs/developments etc of whatever type in world?
