India Terror Attacks Still Underway

20+ hours and troops are still working to clear hotels of terrorists. Fresh fighting and fires are being reported.

A fierce gunbattle between terrorists and paramilitary forces is on at the Hotel Oberoi Trident in Mumbai, in what seems to be the endgame in the near 24-hour hostage and terror drama unfolding in the country’s financial hub.

The fourth floor of the five-star hotel is on fire and according to some reports, at least 30 are still trapped inside, most of them held hostage by armed gunmen.

The Army, the Navy, the National Security Guard and Rapid Action Force are involved in the raging encounter with unspecified number of heavily-armed terrorists.

For those interested in keeping up to date, here are a few Indian media sources.

IBN TV news site and streaming video.

2 We have all been watching this parade for so many years I must admit it is becoming tiresome.  Even the Israelis seem to be exhausted from it all.  The world seems to be sliding into chaos.  The Age of the Morlock and the Eoi is slowly returning.  Which one are you Ace?

I like this guy.

The Director General of Police made it clear that there would be no negotiations with the terrorists, and "we will very soon get them either alive or dead"

Can we get this guy as our Homeland Security secretary?

Are you crazy?  This guy is scarier than the terrorists.  I know how you wingnuts like to wage wars, but in my administration, we talk to terrorists like reasonable people.

7 The thing that is particularly troubling is that these types of occurrence overseas (so '98 U.S. Embassy bombing in E. Africa) seem to precede or prefigure much larger hits on U.S. soil.  And I can only think of a couple things that would top 911 in the minds of jihadist.

Hah! Gotcha! Just trying to lull the terrorists who are monitoring this blog to see what our reactions are and if we are losing our will.  The answer is clearly and uniquivically: NO! Though we may be hung over and covered with gluestains we will fight at our keyboards until we have blugeoned you into submission with our verbosity and sheer boredom!  We will blog you in the fields, we will blog you in the streets and on the beaches, we shall never surrender!

That said, we should accelerate the effort.

27 I know I am stating the obvious, but venting helps me process this crap. Looks like most of the attacks were diversions to cause terror and confusion, and to slow response of counter terror assets. The crown jewels were the hotels, the hospital and the one house used as a jewish outreach center, in order to take hostages and inflict casualties.

Have to give credit on the attack, well planned.

Hit the real targets, attack the main police hq, hit the leadership, and continue with running attacks, spreads out the reaction forces.

I think this is a trial for a bigger target or other smaller targets.  I think this would work anywhere and that is a scary thought.  LEOs have to worry about hostages and 'rights'.  I think they need to re-evaluate their methods and start with just outright ending the threat.

Of course Obambi will just shoot rainbows out of his ass and all will be good.

Oh, and another pre-emptive stfu Christoph

41 I was reading that their homeland security chief guy, Hemant Karkare, was killed leading an assault in one of the hotels.

Is it me, or is that kinda like not his job?  I mean that would have been like Tom Ridge getting killed in an assault on a terrorist cell.  Seems like the guy was a little to much Rambo, and not enough George Patton.

Perhaps but  it makes a dramatic statement that nothing else could do.  Like the Kuwaiti pilot leading the Allied formation to retake Kuwait along with a bunch of Saudis pilots.  We need heroes in our toxic-media age of anti-heroes.  As Oliver North well knows, we need our heoroes to inspire us to do great things, like reisiting the Islamic Hordes all over the world. They have their Martyrs to inspire them, we need our heros.

Thank God that hostages are being freed, little by little, but I'm confused. Is their gesture of releasing hostages an effort to save their own lives in the end?

Their methods appear antithetical to those of Al Qaeda in as much as AQ seems to prefer martyr by suicide and would not, I imagine, ever free their hostages.

So, in the end, what does this current organization really hope to accomplish? Could it be an elaborate distraction?

The Times of India actually calls them TERRORISTS!!! Gasps from the Human Rights groups.

Associated (with terrorists) Press is calling them "militants". Give it a few days and they'll become "rebels", or at least "insurgents".

Gail Collins of the New York Slimes will rush out a column which will point out that Bush should immediately resign and let Obama take office now to use his cool judgement to get everyone in South Asia singing Kumbaya.

In the end, everyone will blame Bush and the JOOOOS, and we'll all move on to stories of Slutney's underwear and murdered young blondes. Too bad those two stories never merge.

The Indian and British media (other than BBC) seem to have analysts who actually seem to know what they're talking about. Our crack DemSM analysts couldn't ID a terrorist if they caught them red-handed wiring up the C4 to their Priuses.

Read Indian, British, or Aussie news sites for what's actually going on there. If you're going to watch or read the Obamamedia American news, do it for entertainment value only.

Early this afternoon, as I was driving to my mom's house, Fox News was interviewing some chick who lives near the Oberoi, but is temporarily staying near the Taj while her apartment is remodeled.

They were just chatting away about how her landlord had informed her of how a platoon had taken over her apartment building to try and get a shot at the terrorists. The Fox guy just kept it rolling by asking if the lights were out there. To which she responded that, yeah, they had cut the lights to the entire building and that troops were in the apartments and on the roof of the building.

I thought I would friggin scream!

Someday, one of these bullshit little breaking news stories is going to result in a terrorist lobbing a grenade into the troops on the adjacent roof and, when it does, I hope they drag the fucking reporter, the anchor, and the whole fucking network down Main Street by the scruff of their necks.
