Feds Issue Warning Of Terror Attack In NYC

The focus is on subways and trains.

Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com, the plot involved a "Madrid-like attack," a reference to the synchronized bombing of the commuter rail system in Spain in March 2004 that killed 191 people.

Following the public release of the warning by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, officials in Washington made efforts to dampen public concern.

"There is nothing concrete to suggest this plot ever went beyond the aspirational or talking stage," said a U.S. official familiar with the intelligence that led to the warning.

Law enforcement officials told ABCNews.com the information was based on an FBI source who has proved "reliable and knowledgeable in the past."

Officials told ABCNews.com unspecified new information in the last 48 hours led to the public warning "out of an abundance of caution."

If you're heading to the city, expect to see lots of cops.

My, my my. This is the perfect "opportunity" Rham talks about. What an excuse to make the Domestic Military Force...to protect the people from things lilke this, How convenient it all works out! An attack on US soil or thwarted attack is the only thing possible that this idea doesn't sound totally Gestapo and has any chance of taking hold. Funny how the circumstances hhelp it along eh?

Wouldn't be surprised if there is an actual terrorist attack that precipitates this. Like long time "guy in my nieghborhood" Bil l Ayers says "In revolution, innocent people have to die"

Posted by: john K. at November 26, 2008 01:11 PM (B/Y39)

21 Homeland Security has it wrong again. This isn't a potential terrorist attack, it's peaceful Muslim jihadists in NYC using the subways and trains to travel, weapons in hand, to DC to lay down their arms at the feet of the Messiah, to proclaim 'peace in our time.'

/the world now loves us. Did Homeland Security not get the memo?

I'm surprised we haven't seen lots of comments yet about how the Bushitlers will engineer a crisis before inauguration day so that they can hold onto power forever.

I always thought that was funny, the way lefties for years have had 1-20-2009 signs and bumperstickers, as a way of celebrating Bush leaving office.  That is so dumb-- if Bush was 1/8 as evil as he has been proclaimed to be these many years, he wouldn't LEAVE office.  Or at least, you certainly couldn't assume he would.

So those signs and bumperstickers were a tacit admission that they fully realized their rhetoric was complete bs.

Didn't take much organization to kill half a dozen folks at the Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City.

45 As Right Wing Hate monger(tm), and Hippy kicker, I find N.Y. s' lack of support for a wartime president and general fucking hate for our troops to be disgusting. Maybe they need a wake up call. I wish no harm on anyone, but if an attack occurs, let it be NYC...After all the liberal bitching about silly shit like FISA, healthcare, same sex marriage, all during a war on terror, I believe fly over country will give them a big "heh"...Great, healthcare will cover Anthrax vaccines, and FISA doesn't care to tap Bruces phone, to listen to him make wedding plans with his fiancee' Larry. Let's see if Barry can unite  the USA to fight this scourge and well as Bush did. Although it was a short lasting coming together, at least for a while we were all on the same team. Glad I live in culturally backward Podunk. If they come to bang our goats, I'm ready for them! Stay safe NY. I'll pray this is just a precaution, and you enjoy a safe Holiday.

You know, the ultimate soft target in the USA is our schools.  I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if al-qaida is planning a Belsen type attack somewhere.  As for NY, yes an attack is possible but if al-qaida sticks to their previous MO they will try to attack whateve targets they missed last time.  So if Flight 96 was supposed to hit the Capitol building or the White House, then that's where they will try - unless they figure those places are too well defended now and want the soft target option - like Sidwell school, perhaps.

We live in interesting times.

47 I'm sorry for the angst in my previous post. I truly hope this is just Homeland being extra cautious. I wish no harm on any US citizen. I just wish NY'ers were allowed CCP's to deal with a jihadist in a split sceond. Even with a concealed weapon, who's to say they could/would use it. Who's to say anybody would, to help a stranger. Our service men and women not withstanding....It would be a real kick in the ass if some armed gang banger were to shoot a suicide bomber before he/she pulls the cord.

49 the ultimate soft target in the USA is our schools.

If you aren't looking for a flashy body count and just want to cripple us pretty bad, its our power distribution infrastructure.  Nobody guards transmission lines and substations.
