Obama Aides: About Repealing Those Evil "Bush Tax Cuts"? Someday But Not Anytime Soon

This stuff is almost getting to be laughable.

After railing for years about those "tax cuts for the rich" and promising to get rid of them to provide middle class tax relief, Team Hope And Change is suddenly singing a different tune.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Obama economic adviser William Daley suggested that the incoming administration would reconsider whether to quickly increase taxes for Americans earning more than $250,000 per year.

Daly, who was commerce secretary under former President Bill Clinton and is the brother of Chicago Mayor Richard Daly, said it looks “more likely than not” that Obama would not seek legislation to repeal President George W. Bush’s cut in the tax rate for the wealthiest Americans before it is scheduled to expire after the 2010 tax year. Bush cut the top rate to 35% from 39.6% in 2001.

Obama had promised to restore the top tax rate to its earlier level, while cutting taxes for the middle class.

Obama on Saturday outlined the framework of a plan to save or create 2.5 million jobs by the end of 2010, and is scheduled to introduce the leaders of his economic team on Monday.

David Axelrod, an Obama political strategist who was recently named as one of the president-elect’s senior White House advisers, also suggested during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” that Obama was considering delaying the tax increase, but he did not elaborate.

Apparently it turns out raising taxes is bad for the economy. Who knew?

Of course as we know, Obama doesn't see tax policy as impacting wealth creation, for him it's all about wealth redistribution and 'fairness'.

Still, even with that kind of mindset it's funny how the facts of life are slapping The One in the face so soon after the election. It's almost as if a lot of what he said was just crap to get dumb people to vote for him.

1 I get a kick out of it, but I'll be really *Really* relieved if it turns out this guy was just an opportunist and never a true believer.

Sure, it probably makes things worse for the Republican Party in climbing back into power anytime soon, but it makes more likely there will still be a recognizable country to take over again when that time comes.

What a fucking joke

Cant the cocksuckers admit they just wanted to beat Bush and it didnt matter if it was fuckin' Donald Duck on their ticket? Policy was always irrelevant. The guy is turning into W with bigger ears and purpler lips

4 Obama as an empty suit political opportunist will work until there is a crisis that will require policy a little more nuanced  than platitudes.

This is too funny.  I wish these guys would get their story straight.  Is Obama for tax cuts or is he against them?  Is he going to raise taxes or not?  I think THIS, as much as anything, is contributing to the huge volatility and uncertainty on Wall Street.  Either way, The One needs to go on TV and say "my plan is going to raise taxes by X% and if you don't like it, tough noogies" and then the market will be able to reach a bottom and go up from there, or he needs to say "my plan won't raise taxes until next year", and then the market will have an instant rally.

8 The point is, Obama is actually damaging the economy by not taking a firm stand one way or the other.  He is not being a leader.  No surprise there.

9 As a conservative, I'm used to politicians completely betraying me. However, it will be highly entertaining to watch Neville Obama throw the entire Left under the the bus over and over again. It's already happening, and he's not even president yet!

12 Quite simply, liberals don't care about what policies are supported as long as liberals get the credit for anything good. Obama's not stupid. He's not going to do most of the things he promised. And liberals are not going to hold him to his promises. It doesn't matter to them how much his policies mirror those of Bush, because they didn't care about the policies. They only cared that Bush be shown as evil and Obama be shown as good. That's why Obama will get more credit for being less centrist than Bush. Republicans will be glad that he supports some good policies, and liberals will love him regardless. For liberals, it was never really about policies, but about showing that they are good people.

It really doesn’t matter what the One wants. Rangel will state what HE wants and he will get it. What Rangel has stated over and over is tax tax tax every damn person who is making a net positive take home pay.

To add to my comment above - do you all realize what an economic precipice we are standing on at this point?  I believe there are dark days ahead of us the likes of which most of us have never seen.  We are in uncharted territory now.  The old rules just will not apply.  What will the US economy look like in a few years?

One of the things that worries me about this is that we have a strongly 'socialist' view point in the government for the next few years.  Rahm Emanuel stated to the WSJ that the administration would ‘throw long and deep,’ taking advantage of the economic crisis to push wholesale changes in health care, taxes, financial re-regulation and energy.

We can be strong and courageous.  And we can stand against the attempt to fundamentally change our country.

40 I know it's silly, but I keep getting this weird feeling that Obama's a conservative mole of some kind. Obviously his voting record and some of his actions so far don't fit, but there's a line between sacrificing ideology to politics and he seems to be riding it pretty hard. Considering what he probably could have gotten away with implementing under his "mandate" and his rhetoric up to this point, I'm almost wondering if he's doing this on purpose. Keep on breaking those promises!

So, the media sold it's soul so we could get Clinton's third term instead of Bush's.

Gotta love that. Change (back to the nineties) you can believe in!

And while I wouldn't exactly be thrilled if this should be the case, it's a hell of a lot better than Barry actually trying to keep most of his promises.

42 Lee, I think you might be right.  I was one of those whose hatred of Bill & Hill burned with the heat of a thousand suns, but they look pretty goddamn good compared to the "campaign" Barry.  And it sure looks like, for lack of an actual plan, he's just gonna go for Clinton redux.  Fine.  Let's just get it over with.

Just "thinking about it" or "considering it". Notice it's never, i changed my mind or we can't stick with original plan. Everything is being "reconsidered". That doesn't mean it is changing one iota from the original idea except perhaps to reowrd it so it sounds more palitable to the suckers in the public.

They don't give 2 shits about any "plan" on paper. There is no plan, just some bullshit to justify passing the kickbacks to the unions. We all know this is not going to work and should not be done. Can't blame the Emporoer, he just gave suggestions, Congress will claim innocentce because the Auto Industry didn't follow the plan they submitted to get approval. Hes refused to disclose just about everything that is related to him no matter how minor the detail and he, along with the MSM, has swept everything under the rug and/or given a totally nonsense fluff excuse for what did come to light.

Now suddenly some people are believing he won't repeal the tax cuts in 2009 when he is "considering"  now? Come on, he's yanking chains once again. What has happened to lead you to believe suddenly you are hearing the truth? Look at all that has gone on up to this point, despite the reality of the situation.

Obama has access to the biggest bus ever created.  We just thought it was big when he was throwing under every person he's ever associated with.  Now, he's tossed under the entire 52% of the voting population that he duped with his "fuck the rich people" rhetoric.  And the bringing home the troops rhetoric.  And the Git-mo rhetoric.  It saves time to just toss them all at once.

The Partridge Family is jealous....  are jealous?  Whatever.  Obama's bus makes their bus look like a tiny little Matchbox bus.

It's almost as if a lot of what he said was just crap to get dumb people to vote for him.

Seriously?  I find this very hard to believe.

Last week, I was working on a computer in a teacher's room.  On her wall, she had a poster provided by C-SPAN.  It showed all the Presidents with their political and military experience on a timeline.  Each different type of experience was color-coded.  All I could think was how pathetic Obama's line will look once it is updated.

In 4 years, people won't remember what he promised.  If he sticks to Bush's policies 100%, the media will help him proclaim how he saved the day.
