Gold-Plated Vouchers: Obama's Kids Will of Course Attend Tony Sidwell Friends

While most of his poor DC voters' kids go to DC's horrid public school system.

Thanks to Copious Dissent.

1 Come on!  Did anyone actually believe The Chosen One's Children would go to a public school in DC.  Word I have is that military families get combat pay for serving time....excuse me....getting assigned to work in the DC area.

2 Shocked I am that the NEA and AFT would allow their chosen one to send his heirs to a private school.  Im sure they will "punish" him next time around.  NOT

Posted by: itchytriggerfinger at November 21, 2008 06:43 PM (2KFyP)

3 Well I don't fault him for wanting to send his kids to a better school. I do fault him for not wanting the serfs to have the same choice.

Posted by: Travis at November 21, 2008 06:48 PM (2xHh/)

4 Just wanted to make sure his kids are not infected with the same crap those who vote for him kid's are bringing home.  We all know what that lead to.  He aint that stupid.

This is not unexpected. I seriously doubt that all politicians in Washington who have children in DC use a private school. One of the worst school systems in the country and also one of the most expensive. Always a perennial favorite to hold up as a demonstration that the cause of bad schools is NOT money.

6 I brought up the fact that he is choosing for himself but refuses others the same privilege on a libtard site and boy did they attack me. Fact is, do as I say, not as I do. Shouldn't he want to "spread the wealth" when it comes to educational choice as well?

10 You know, I bet the Secret Service practically insisted.  From a security perspective, it would be almost impossible to keep The One's brood safe in the crack den that is the DC school system.

15 I was going to defend this if only because the president's children must have rather extreme security needs.    It's sort of a wonder they aren't simply tutored at the White House.

But...

Then I remembered how when I started to homeschool the argument was always... that the "good" parents, the "involved" parents, ought to be forced to participate in the public school system because their effort would make sure that education was better for everyone.    That is the essential anti-school-choice argument, if for home school or for vouchers.   Make parents *stay* so those parents are motivated by their interest in their own children to *make* the public school system work.

In that case... Obama really should have his children in the DC public schools... as should anyone else who thinks that DC parents should be denied school choice... because can you imagine?   The school would have to be remade into a *safe* place.    Parental involvement by the Obamas would mean an incredible lot to those children of parents who are less involved or entirely absent.

18 All beliefs founder on the most basic impulse to take care of one's own children. When you next get asked how you could be so deluded as to vote for some school-voucher-supporting rich conservative, tell the questioner that at least you know that when said rich pol sends his kid to private school, he doesn't turn around and say that only rich peoples' children should have the chance to go to a better school than Drugs 'N' Gangstas PS.

19

Much as I hate agreeing with anything that man does, it makes sense for security reasons as Sidwell Friends is better set up to handle it. But, it doesn't excuse the fact that he sent the girls to private school up until this point as well. And also I am amazed that very little attention was paid by the MSM and the O-bots to what a spectacular failure his "executive" experience running the Annenberg challenge was. If what he did with that money is an example of the direction he thinks schools should take, well then those of us with kids in public schools are even more fucked than we were with the asinine "no child left behind" plan.

The NEA was stupid to endorse him. It will be nice to watch them sold downriver along with the anti-war folks, the gays, and the immigration reformers. That'll definitely be change I can believe in!

Yeah working with the public schools is sooooo fucking effective.  So was an individual trying to produce change in the Soviet Union.  Complain to them that your child can't put together a decent sentence and has never used a fucking comma correctly in her life and they tell you that she's one of the best in her class.  To make any sort of change would require at least for you to quit your job and I'm not even sure that would work.  Fortunately the college she attended realized the problem early on and suggested she see a tutor (which her mother and I insisted she comply with) and in a few short lessons the tutor accomplished what years of public education left broken.  Sending your kids to a public school in most cases is like sending them to NAMBLA summer camp.

Posted by: Captain Hate at November 21, 2008 07:33 PM (m2sQh)

21 Captain,

I believe education reform should be at the top of the list for Conservatives.  And not this "No Child Left Behind" bull shit.

I'm talking real reform.  Vouchers and scholastic standards minus the social shit.

Posted by: Editor at November 21, 2008 07:37 PM (GTpOW)

22 Well you can't expect the little darlings to attend PUBLIC school now...the Secret Service wouldn't allow it...too many security risks and think how it would look politically if they had to shoot the little teenage criminals every couple of weeks or so...

23 Liberals complain that republicans are hypocrites. Do as I say not as I do. Only rich people should have educated kids? Maybe they should do an education offset that reflect their environmental policies. Send two poor Hispanics to Sidwell for free. Then it would be morally correct. Oh, but vouchers are not fair to poor kids. (expletive)

In this year I have seen liberals savage a woman for the rudeness of being pro-life and a successful governor. I have seen people of faith attacked for the sin of standing up for their beliefs in prop 8. I have seen RINO's, who have ridden the base to three Bush terms, claim the base is the problem.
I have seen the media claim it's "right to know" only extends to conservatives.

Barney Frank could get caught with little boys and the media would say "how horrible for Barney that people don't understand him." Obama will have flings and the media will believe it's their duty to cover for him, for the good of the country. The "sophisticated press of JFK is about to be reincarnated.

Standards are a tool to use against conservatives. Really, I challenge any of you to name a standard that a Democrat is personally responsible to keep.

Jefferson got caught with cash in his freezer. Sandy Berger caught with top secret documents in his panties. Teddy Kennedy and Mary Jane. Bill and Monica. Bill and (ad nauseam). Dodd and Citi bank. Jamie Gorelick and the 911 commission. Barney Frank and the Call Boy. Acorn. The prosecutor who went after Rush and then went public with private matters. Democrat Children are off limits but Bush twins and Palin kids are fair game. Palins email hacked.

You get it. If only one side has standards that are enforceable, then only one side will win. Bennett Johnston, Mark Foley, Nixon, Stevens and the like have lost their world due to being a Republican while committing wrong. I contend that if they were Democrats they would not have been punished to the same degree if at all. Nixon would be praised as the man who got us out of Vietnam.

We are wrestling with a greased pig.

You expected otherwise?  How could they make the correct friends before they go to the correct prep schools, and then the correct universities before they take on the correct employment with the correct firms if they did not start here?

27 Editor,

You'll have no trouble getting agreement from me on that; it would be an outstanding foundation on which to build support.  I sent my other daughter to a very good private school that cost me out the wazz and I'd wished the older daughter would've gone there too but she didn't want to and I didn't feel like pushing the issue.  I could've used some help along the way but it was still an excellent investment.

Another education dirty little secret:  Most urban public school teachers send their kids to private schools.

#10 ombudsman:

You are likely correct, but the effect of that much security on one to two schools would probably have been a boon to every other child.  Would probably raised property values around that school, too.  The neighborhood crack house would be gone so fast that your head would spin, as would every other neighborhood problem from rats on down.

31 "I can't blame him for choosing a private school."

I blame him for his rhetoric that denounces the benefits of the rich at the expense of the poor. This is the equivalent of Gore flying a private jet to a global waring seminar. It implies aristocracy and privilege. This the educational type of a gated community.

Communist party members get all the best perks.

#40 Johnnie:

There are real issues with security when you are talking about the children of the POTUS, end of question.  All joking aside, that is a real concern and has to be dealt with, and the Secret Service is about as serious on security than you could ever hope to see.  The security must be done, and most local schools are not built with that in mind.  My elementary school with houses backing up to the playground would not have been a good choice.

Back in 2000 I drove a van for the Bush campaign when he made a stop in Michigan.  There isn't anything like hearing the bolt on an M-16/M-4 being worked while you are just standing in the parking lot waiting to go.  And that was just a candidate.  And as we went the roads were cleared of all traffic.  That is a lot to expect a neighborhood to endure for the next few years.  How could any resident expect to have any guests if they lived near those schools?
