The Age of Justice: Marc Rich's Pardon-Facilitator Now to be Nation's Attorney General

Eric Holder, pardon-facilitator for deep-pocketed felons:

The only hesitancy about Holder’s selection was that he himself had reservations about going through a confirmation process that was likely to revive questions about his role in signing off on the controversial pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich. Although there is no evidence that Holder actively pushed the pardon, he was criticized for not raising with the White House the strong objections that some Justice Department lawyers and federal prosecutors in New York had to pardoning somebody who had fled the country. But after reviewing the evidence in the case, and checking with staffers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Obama aides and Holder both decided the issue was highly unlikely to prove an obstacle to his confirmation, one of the sources said--especially given the Democrats’ more sizable post-election majority in the Senate.

Thank goodness we won't have any pesky questions over this "distraction."

1 This word 'change' that Obama used so much, I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

2 Yay corruption!

3 I know and accept that any criticism of the first black president is prima facie evidence of racism and hence forbidden.

But is any criticism of the first black AG similarly forbidden?  I just don't want to get myself in trouble here.

I saw the Grammies in February 2001; Robbie Robertson snarked that Leonard Peltier didn't get a pardon because he wasn't "Marc Rich enough". The sleaze of Clinton's exit turned off the Left, hardcore. I suspect it cost Hillary the nomination in fact...

But it's okay when the Messiah does it, by definition.... right?

Posted by: David Ross at November 18, 2008 04:34 PM (GwV+j)

5 If I were voting on the confirmation, I would have 450,000 questions for Mr. Holder.

This is a good thing...I actually hope he appoints nothing but radicals, criminals, and corruptocrats to all of these offices, and the appointments are all approved by the Senate.

Helps to ensure that his reign will only be 4 years. The scandals should be a lot of fun.

Posted by: Jim62sch at November 18, 2008 04:37 PM (zYagu)

7 If Ayers, Wright, lack of medical records, lack of birth certificate, lack of school records did not hinder Obama in getting elected, what would a measly controversial pardon do?

Puketastic.

Speaking of pardons, what's the odds of Bush pardoning or commuting the sentences of the Border agents?

Posted by: polynikes at November 18, 2008 04:38 PM (m2CN7)

9

What you want to bet his first act will be firing all the federal prosecutors appointed by Bush?  This dirt bag will probably only be concerned with investigating and prosecuting Bush officials.

Posted by: Vic at November 18, 2008 04:48 PM (Qd7GC)

10 Of course, when he fires every US Attorney on day one, the media will tell us not worry, it's expected and it's not unethical.

11

Eric Holder, pardoning domestic terrorists before it was fashionable.

http://tinyurl.com/584dyc

And let's not forget, Holder was Deputy AG under Clinton when Clinton pardoned Kathy Boudin, Weather Underground murderer, and mother of the kid Ayers and Dohrn raised.

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends...

Posted by: JackStraw at November 18, 2008 04:55 PM (VW9/y)

12 This dirt bag is a hold over from when Reno was in there and should have been fired by Bush. And I remember reading about him that he is of the notion that the 2nd Amendment is a collective right not an individual right. Freakin' Bush should have got rid of him now we're stuck with him. He's been in the DOJ through all of Bushes 8 years. Unfucking believable.

Posted by: PoconoJoe at November 18, 2008 04:56 PM (Ldabu)

13 Bush's 8 years. I'm getting so pissed off I'm screwing up my proper English.

Posted by: PoconoJoe at November 18, 2008 05:00 PM (Ldabu)

14 Pardoning someone who had fled is pretty outrageous. Fucker.

Posted by: Perry Mason at November 18, 2008 05:08 PM (P1Evy)

15 Oh, no! Someone mentioned Peltier. The bastards will probably pardoned this murderer.

Posted by: Perry Mason at November 18, 2008 05:09 PM (P1Evy)

18 Y'see, on appointments like this, there's two ways a sane conservative can look at this.  We can be somewhat comforted by the fact that he's apparently an old-line insider with dirt on his hands, or we can be disappointed that he's not an RFK Jr sort of loon out of left field.

As for second amendment issues - right now, for this moment, if you're a firearms dealer, the coronation of Barack I is the best thing that ever happened to you.  The reason no one's buying cars is that everyone's cashing in what's left of their 401(k)s to buy rifles. I'm seeing stories that some outfits have sold as much in the past ten days as they'd normally sell in six good months and they could have done far better but they just can't get any more to sell.

Posted by: mrkwong at November 18, 2008 05:56 PM (G8Eo0)

19 I think it's really cool how Obama is bringing all kinds of new faces into his administration, what with all the hope and change and shit like that.

Posted by: Jones at November 18, 2008 06:35 PM (KOkrW)

20 >>new faces...hope and change<<

The guy doesn't have a shallow bench, he has no bench. No Rolodex. He's not "friended." He'd have to think for fifteen minutes to come up with "three references who have known you professionally."

He has to take the Clinton team in toto because, as the honcho in a town where power comes from who you know, he knows ab-so-fucking-lutely NO ONE.

So pathetic. What a thorough confession of how empty this fucking pretender is.

23 "At least it's not Jaime Gorelick?"

Holder is ALMOST as bad, but I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the Forrest Gump of lawyerly corruption is bound to show up in this administration somewhere.

Posted by: Dave J at November 18, 2008 07:33 PM (qsGH+)

24 Bushs 8 years are a monument to why the GOP is more concerned with how they will be perceived than in actually running things for their supporters- which despite all the BS about being "everyones president" is the way the real world works. We're about to be reminded of this little reality daily for 4 years, as our ox is being   gored 24/7.
Of course from behind the gates at Bushwood Country Club it won't seem too bad.

Posted by: jjshaka at November 18, 2008 07:39 PM (KX0/f)

25 Is this surprising anybody?  After this election season that brought Chicago politics to the rest of the nation, is a little corruption here or there that big of a deal?  The illuminati democrats are just enjoying the spoils of their new found total power.

Posted by: RJ at November 18, 2008 07:58 PM (7nbTg)

26 If Marc Rich's selling oil to Iran in violation of US sanctions, failing to pay millions of dollars in taxes, renouncing your US citizenship and going on the run is worthy of a pardon from Eric Holder, just think what everyone else will get away with.  The substitute teacher is here!

Posted by: Coogen at November 18, 2008 09:27 PM (h4UWR)

27 So, if Bush pardons everyone in his administration, including himself (no law against that that I can see), no one will care, right?

Posted by: Dr. Remulak at November 19, 2008 02:21 AM (AJ8lg)

28 How can ANYONE bring up Bush like his name now means dishonor in our language when it was precisely his BACKSTABBING BY YOU JIHADIST-DUPED-IDIOTS that set Medula Obamgata up for our country's massacre???

Is there some point where you EVER get it?
The list of those that love oblamer:

Apologists
Idiots who think that crushing business (the evil rich) will make USD flow from faucets.

Every terrorist on earth, both here and abroad.

Every anti-American, especially Candians and Brits who loathe our former greatness.

And of course the pansies who leaned left because everyone else seemed to be doing it.

Now THERES some sound reasoning. The vaaaast majority couldn't POSSIBLY be made up entirely of idiots.

You Bush sabotuers are going to wish to God he could have run for a 3rd term by the time oblamer gets started. He's the friggin continuation of flight 93.
