Secret Vote: Lieberman retains Homeland security chairmanship

The Politico comments on this event are hilarious. The nutroots are really pissed off they didn't get blood. Of course, Sanders and Leahy got their panties in a twist over it, and Harry Reid was non too happy.

Lieberman also retained chairmanship of the Armed Services committee. He was however severely flogged with a wet noodle and stripped of a seat on the Environment and Public Works committee, which I'm sure he's eating Xanax by the handful and agonizing over at this very moment.

1 Well, score one for the secret ballot that Obama wants to eliminate for American workers.

Asshole.

2 I expect Barry to be so hamstrung by the bad economy, decreased budget revenues, and the exploding deficit that he won't be able to get much of his hideous agenda through. And will lead many lefty heads to explode. And that will make me smile.

3 Did anyone notice how the comments sound exactly the comments on right-wing blogs, with just the names of the evil-doers changed?

4 My fav part of that video is that kid yelling, "Run, Charlie, run!"

To paraphrase,  "Run, Joey, run"

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who pushed for tougher punishment prior to Obama's intervention, bristled when reporters asked if he had let Lieberman off lightly.

''Is this the time to walk out of here and say, 'Boy, did we get even,'?'' he asked. ''No one was more angry than me...[But] I feel good about what we did today.''

The only important result for Reid was keeping Lieberman happily on the democrat reservation for future battles.  The feigned anger was for the benefit of the netroots.

If Obama, Reid, Pelosi et al have the good tactical sense to govern from the center to avoid giving the Republicans easy openings, this is just the first of the disappointments suffered by the radical left.

LOL!

The moonbats are whining about this, because so far, they haven't been able to see any conservative blood spilled, and now the obamabots may have to put up with Hillary at the State Dept. Oh, they got their new seats, and overturned a few, but, what they secretly fear is that Joe will NOT caucus with them as much as they'd like. They think slapping his ears back will "teach him a lesson".

ROFL!!!!

They demand he tow the line. I don't think he will...but it will be fun to watch them whine about it, every time a vote falls short.

Since we are talking about Joltin' Joe. Right after the election, several folks were asking how Obama and the dems could get such a large percentage (77%) of the Jewish vote, given their support by anti-Israel groups. Don Feder has an excellent article.

Bob--yep, he was one of the pilots. Just happened to be looking on Ermey's Wikipedia entry, and it's in his list of credits.

Irrespective of Obama's neo-Marxist instincts, everything he says and does as president will be filtered through the prism of the 2012 election.  Restraining the hard left elements of his coalition may be his most arduous task.

Impressive, too, how a liberal democrat easily took the tax-cut issue away from McCain and the Republicans.  Reagan must be spinning in his grave.

When the Kos kids are upset that means that Obama, Reid and Pelosi are successfully governing from the middle, to the disadvantage of the GOP.

I would rather the netroots be swooning in ecstasy.

I'm glad to see Joe has mastered the art of his fellow Democrats of insincere apoligizing in order to keep his position. Good for you Joe, they aren't the only ones that can blow sunshine. Reid doing an about face trying to spin how it is good for Dems to have his vote on their side. This after making it very vocal he wanted him gone.

No surprise this happened, Dems are thugs that threaten but don't dare do something if their fingerprints will be the only ones all over it. Much like the auto bailout. Talk a big game when they have the majority to vote without republicans but won't do it without them as the patsy. The Empreror as well. He's all for the bailout knowing he is safe from doing it for the next 2 months. He wants Bush's fingerprints all over it for when it fails, and it will fail

That auto bail out dog won't hunt no matter how much the MSM would tell us otherwise. They can't cover or gloss it this issue over- it's way to huge

21 How many minutes did it take before Joe cracked in the Senate's Comfy Chair?

Posted by: roy at November 18, 2008 02:48 PM (cB77O)

22 I would rather the netroots be swooning in ecstasy.

I don't. If they're swooning, it means America is going down the crapper. I don't want America going down the crapper. I don't want massive unemployment and inflation and a crappy economy and the human suffering that such things produce. I want to see American prosperous and secure, even with the jug-eared commie in the White House.

I don't want America going down the crapper just so we can elect a bunch of guys with 'R' after their names. Because if there's one thing we should have learned from this election, the 'R' is not necessarily a sign of quality.

Posted by: OregonMuse at November 18, 2008 02:52 PM (FO+YO)

Here is the thing - they can't afford to shiv Lieberman because they only have one more election to steal to be filbuster proof.

If they off Joe then manage to knock of Saxby Chambliss they'll be pissing theirselves.

Posted by: blaster at November 18, 2008 05:59 PM (BiphJ)

24 That was a secret vote, by the way.  Secret votes are ok for Senators, but not for anyone who might not be interested in unionizing?  Is that how it works?  Sort of an "ok for me but not for thee" kind of thing?

Posted by: jana at November 18, 2008 06:09 PM (vSRlG)

25 I want to see American prosperous and secure, even with the jug-eared commie in the White House.

Read that sentence again and see if you can detect the glaring inconsistency.

if there's one thing we should have learned from this election, the 'R' is not necessarily a sign of quality.

I can think of no way that the GOP is not preferable to a democrat party dominated by hard-left neo-Marxists.

Posted by: arbuthnot at November 18, 2008 07:13 PM (Tw7Fm)

26 I can't wait to see how Obama is going to respond to this.  The secret ballot is working and if the new illuminati regime thinks they're going to destroy that traditional rite, then it seems that anything will be fair game.

Posted by: RJ at November 18, 2008 07:17 PM (7nbTg)

27 Hate to support a Democrat, but Lieberman is the absolute coolest bastard in the Senate.  Regardless of his flaming liberalism, I'd vote for him if I lived in CT.

Posted by: Kevin at November 18, 2008 11:26 PM (KO6dP)

28 This is folly. You can't have party discipline if you don't get rid of traitors. The Democrats ought to have shunned Joe Lieberman.
