| How Obama Got ElectedRank ignorance. They don't know which party controls Congress, and never heard of Reid, Frank, or Pelosi, but damn, do they know the media-approved misinformation that Palin wore a $150,000 wardrobe. Comments1
Doesn't matter much now, does it.

Do you think that McCain might have pointed to Freddie/Fannie donations to political candidates and asked the American people to "follow the money?"

Don't worry Ace. These are probably the same people that think Obama's going to pay their mortage (or rent) and credit card bills. Become a sadist and enjoy their pain when reality bites them in the ass. That's what I'm gonna do.

Fuck me. So if by some miracle, the Republicans gain back power in 2010 and they cause shit to hit the fan. Does that mean, its really the dems fault because obama is President? This is why, I have no one iota of faith in our public school system. It makes me sick. Posted by: Ginger at November 17, 2008 10:46 PM (/JUXI) 7
This should surprise nobody. The whole Democratic strategy depends on people voters being ignorant about politics.

The best, or worst I guess, question was the one on who said they campaigned in all 57 states? Of course that had to be Palin.

Tabloid election. That's all it's become. And if they had wanted to fill the 24/7 cycle with real sh*t about Obama, they could have. And that's just the stuff we know!. I'm sorry but my fellow liberals (former) are embarrassing. They wanted to be bamboozled. They wanted a reason to hate anyone that opposed Obama. I always have to ask my fellow liberal friends (many of them former now...it's been a bridge burner of an election) who would benefit by playing the race card? A racist does not have to be convinced to behave as a racist. But the "victim" of the race card has everything to benefit. I'm still trying to figure out how I was ever a part of this group. Still in deprogramming mode myself.

Yeah, that a Democratic Congress with an approval rating in the teens gets re-elected is about all you need to know about how fundamentally stone-cold ignorant the electorate was.
And it should've been McCain's job to hammer that point home. Every time that empty-headed Marxist asshole Barack blathered on about how the economic crisis was the result of failed Bush policies, instead of distancing himself from Bush, McCain should've asked that economic illiterate Lenin disciple a) which fucking policies he was lying about now and b) what he and his Democrat colleagues had done in the past two years, when they had control of the House and (in effect) the Senate, to forestall the slump. And then watch the Teleprompter Messiah hem and haw and bluster and reach vainly into his bag of Ayers tricks and fall back on his Communist schooling of wealth redistribution, comrade, and finally cry racist. Of course, the media wouldn't have reported it, preferring to continue their in-depth reporting on how smooth and cool and tingle-inducing Obama looks stepping off a plane, but the debates would have been a useful place to reach a fairly large audience with the unfortunate truth that Obama is an economic moron. Nothing surprising: this is what universal adult suffrage and compulsory government education get you. When the only requirements for voting are being a "citizen" (which is usually accomplished by being born in an arbitrary area of land) and beating one's heart for 18 years, and when most of those 18 years are spent in government indoctrination centers, it's to be expected that most of those voters will vote for more "free" goodies from Mommy Government. In programmer-speak, "it's not a bug; it's a feature."

No one here should pretend this is news. Recently, my relatives from north of the border came for a visit (wife's family). While my wife was out of the room, I was asked how I voted. My response was I voted my wallet. The following 10 seconds of silence was priceless until sis in law finally had the courage to ask me what voting my wallet meant, to which I asked, what do you think it means? No one had any idea of what I was talking about. She finally caved and said, so, I've always had you as a democrat, (i've known her 13 years). While not answering her question, I asked her and all the people in the room, 6 total, all Canucks, who they would have voted for, all agreed on BO. The next two questions were too easy, first, name one accomplishment of Obama's (silence), then, give me one reason why you wouldn't vote for McCain, they all said because Palin is unqualified to be President. I wasn't surprised by their political leanings nor their collective ignorance, but I sure surprised them. Last of the Mohicans was published in January 1826. It was a bestseller for its time. What percentage of America, now, could read that book while understanding and enjoying it? 1826. You're talking about most people getting taught by parents or in a single room school house with Icabod Crane as schoolmaster. Now we spend a ton of money on education to produce 20% of the result. What percentage of this country knows who wrote The Federalist Papers? Take it even further, what percentage of this country knows who John Jay was? Schools are fixated on mediocrity. Bad students get all the attention, good ones are that way because they don't require supervision. Half of this country doesn't like the country because they aren't taught about it. It's a joke, but it's on us so it's not too funny.

These are what the Dem's call "low-information voters". The
Republicans have got them too, I remember one poll during the primaries
where they polled Republicans about the views of the candidates and
like 50% thought McCain was a hardline immigration enforcement
proponent.
Maybe someone could interview those voters and start a website called "howaRINOwasnominated.com" Posted by: pirate of the perineum at November 18, 2008 12:34 AM (rKSJ1) 94

The problem with American education is not just the schools, it's the kids. For all the parents who complain about the school system, I'd like to know how much time per day their kids actually spend studying. Kids are in school for 6 hours a day, 7 days a week. I would contend that you shouldn't even need that much at home studying. At least not until some hard high school subjects like chemistry. College kids go to school for a lot less time and learn more. I find it difficult to put a lot of blame on kids, unless they are older high school aged. The problem starts in the young grades and continues. I'm not going to call some 10 year old kid lazy because he'd rather play football than study after school. The main problem with schools is that people with no interest in education have too much power. Leave it to the teachers and the parents, that's it. #82 - Do forgive my fellow Canadians, but this is what you get from a country dominated by the Liberal party for most of the last 100 years (yes, I know, we had Mulroney in the 80s - but he was no conservative and he wrecked the conservative brand for another 20 years). So guys, you better get busy and win your country back before the programming kicks in. We've a conservative minority government in Canada right now (that is, a legislatively weak conservative led parliament that could be pushed into an election on any given appropriations vote) that is very timid and unable/unwilling to enact anything remotely contrary to received liberal wisdom save for a bit of fiscal restraint and some modest tax cuts. It's going to take a long time to detoxify the folks up here who have been drinking long and hard the libleft koolaid.

Quit whining. This stuff has always been a factor and always will be. It's just one of the challenges of running on the Right. The way you deal with this is by turning out your base in sufficient numbers to counteract it. It doesn't hurt if you're charismatic and enthusiastic enough to appeal to the REAL Independents as well (that is, people who vote on the basis of how the candidate makes them feel). McCain did neither, and THAT is why he lost. If we run Conservative candidates who are bold and convincing, we'll win elections. It works every time it's tried. Look, I 've been trying to tell republicans for YEARS... it is not enough to be right on the issues and smugly take the moral high ground - thinking that the public will recognize your merits and vote you in. Maybe that worked 50 years ago. It doesn't work today. Today people get elected by being cagey, clever, and hiring good advertising and public relations staff. Right or Wrong On The Issues doesn't make any difference, because in our culture, no one cares to spend the time to dig for the facts anymore. Very few people anyway -- not enough to swing an election. Years ago, people actually heard the issues when the MSM presented them somewhat impartially, but that practice is gone. So if you want to win....you know what you have to do. McCain didn't do it. Posted by: Juliet16 at November 18, 2008 08:02 AM (2xgu5) 131
#125 I agree completely. I said it before and I'll say it again and again....the MSM is fully complicit in the outcome of this disasterous election. Unfortunately, MOST people don't actually utilize their brains and go research candidates themselves. MOST people rely on the friggin network news to spoon feed them whatever they want them to know. Heck, I even saw a multitude of commercials where I live wherein Charter (my cable company) had a place where you could go and find out the "facts" on each candidate. Yeah, I'm going to make my voting decision based on the facts as listed by Charter Cable Company! If this is how people get their information, and all signs point to the affirmative, then the only thing that will ever change it is to change the MSM. Gawd, I get SO mad just thinking about the power they have over these sorry, dumbass people who go no further than "Inside Edition" and the like to make such a criticial decision. Also, I firmly, firmly believe...anyone getting government assistance by way of welfare, not paying taxes, should NOT be allowed to vote. At best, bring on the 3/5ths rule again. Of course, the Dems will never let that happen for obvious reasons. Fuck 'em all. They are flushing our great country right down the shithole. The Right cannot abandon good, sound candidates because the MSM and infotainment mis-defines them first. There's just no end to the damage that can and will continue to be done if we accept a contrived meme without a fight. Dan Quayle was stigmatized and essentially destroyed for nothing. He deserved a much better fate, yet no rally to his defense was really developed in the immediate aftermath of his pseudo faux pas.
Conservative, even Republican, peers absolutely must refuse to accept conventional wisdom lest every single choice that would represent their views be destroyed. Had Huckabee won, he'd have been tagged a Bible-thumping snake-handler. Had Romney won, his Mormonism would have been trumped and he'd have been called a closet polygamist. Fred? Mentally slow hick who'd rather do TV and/or his wife. Which candidate did they not really mock? McCain. Which was actually endorsed by the Left during the primaries? McCain. I wonder why that was? Instead, they went after a real threat... Palin. Abandon conservatives due to your opponent's labels at your peril. You'll never see a conservative again. 2. The MSM cause this problem, and the schools don't help. (I include Tina Fey and such in the MSM category.) I am not sure how to overcome this problem but it has to be done. For example, I will GUARANTEE you that most people polled would tell you that the Republicans opposed Civil Rights while the Democrats supported them. This is the meme that has been sold, and yet its completely unfounded. This is why I am so angry that McCain did not take some time to explain that part of the ecnomic problem was caused by the government, and enabled by Democrats. This is important beyond the 2008 election, not only for electoral reasons, but just educational. 2a. I know everyone wants the Prez or McCain to use the bully pulpit, but I am not sure that really works. Long speeches don't work. Gotcha headlines do. 2b. There should be a simple test given to each person before they're allowed to vote. 3 branches of government, house and senate leaders, a simple 5 question test to make sure the voter understands what the role of government is. Pass and you vote on the real machine, fail and you get the machine that's not hooked up, that way everyone thinks they got to vote.

People are ignorant on both sides of the line. Its fun to make fun of the libs/dems but its not like the cons/repubs aren't as guilty of being dumb fucks.
People ARE ignorant on both sides of the line. Both sides have their nutters too. It's just that the Democrats want to run their ignorant nutters for office while the Republicans want to banish their's to the fringe where they belong. Posted by: Speller at November 18, 2008 11:56 AM (Uagor) 157
Re@151: What about Roger Hedgecock?...and is he easy on the eyes?
Googled and just answered my own questions. Looks-wise, he'll do. Better than Kerry or McCain (I know, I know), not as good as Romney. (Who in politics IS?) Bio is catchy....former mayor of San Diego, county supervisor, city attorney, trial attorney, rock concert promoter, surfer and San Diego’s award-winning #1 radio talk host for almost 22 years. Hmm....Lawyer, elected office, rock'n'roll, surfing. AND--most importantly--best EXPLAINER I've heard other than Gingrich. Very solid, great sense of humor, holds his own with liberals! Smacks 'em down so good-humoredly, calmly, reasonably and courteously, they don't even know they just got smacked! Very persuasive, if you're listening in on it. Hedgecock 2012? Yeah Tushar gets it. I talk like that all the time and people think I'm crazy and going to blow a gasket if I keep on thinking like that. Better to blow a gasket than dutifully accept what is about to befall this great nation.
I have two types of left friends who voted for Obama: 1) Hope! Change! Gimmee! 2) THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX MUST BE DESTROYED! (wears Che t-shirt as a badge of honor...*spit*) Sarah #9, yes it was a bridge burner of an election. I.Will.Not.Submit. Posted by: Derak at November 18, 2008 12:25 PM (3Kbpl) 159
These people weren't ignorant or stupid. And they DID pass the civics requirements needed to vote. They soaked up everything taught to them and everything said to them this election cycle.
What possible reason would anyone- and this is not confined to politics- have to question EVERY teacher, EVERY newspaper, EVERY TV report , EVERY person they trust? Not only do they have to question and doubt their entire world and culture, they have to continue to dig until they find 'the other side', which consists of a cable news channel, two newspapers, old history books, and all of us aliens in or from red counties. That takes a rare person. We don't need someone to 'better articulate the message', we don't need to 'be more inclusive'. The message is in the Declaration, Constitution, and Bill of Rights and is already inclusive. I'm not sure how to attack the system that's binding these people, but they are just as intelligent as you or me. Posted by: seyont at November 18, 2008 12:37 PM (FcR7P) 160

This just proves who our enemy really is.
The MSM. What if Ayers bombed news stations and paper outlets? I bet we would have heard A LOT more conversations about him. Being that he was against the all powerful media. Seriously folks. It's time we start pushing these buildings into the ocean. Employees and all. F*ck em. The war is being fought, and this election has taken a descent chunk out of their credibility (such as it is). They are going to be emboldened by THEIR VICTORY make no mistake about it. THE fight needs to be taken to them. This needs to end. Journalism is not what it used to be. It is a propaganda MACHINE. When I was speaking to my own mother about the 'Fairness Doctrine', she accused me of being a radical in thinking that the left is going to kill talk radio. Then I informed her of his Doucheness Harry Reid's words "Talk radio is like porn and it needs to be regulated". She had NO IDEA he said that. The media has it's hands around the neck of this great nation. They. must. be. stopped. Posted by: Melodic Metal at November 18, 2008 01:17 PM (0TU9n) 164
Drudge has linked article how Soros has set up shop blocks from the whitehouse. He is our new warlord. He bought the media (bailout) he bought McLame, he bought us. He hates America, and he has brought it to its knees. Why can't a spy get in there and bring it down. We need a hero.

The poll has at least a few questions that aren't completely accurate, and taking advantage of negative statements about BHO that weren't completely accurate is one of the ways the MSM helped him win. The problem is not just with the MSM, it's with many of BHO's opponents who can't figure out how to do things in the right way. Details on all that at my name's link.

If you really want to winnow out irresponsible voters, just have a wealth provision; limit the franchise to those with a minimum of a six-figure net worth (excluding primary residence).
I'm pretty sure that Obama carried that demographic. There are some fabulously stupid wealthy people in this country. Posted by: flenser at November 18, 2008 02:12 PM (djFNA) 167

This video shows how STUPID the whole "everone shoud vote" thing is. One of the women in this video is visibly uncomfortable with the questions because she seems to recognise that she is uninformed. We need a, "Don't Bother to Vote if You Don't Bother To Research" drive. On the plus side, the one young woman says that she now realizes that she wasn't as informed as she had thought. Perhaps she will work harder at it next time. PS Tushar, did you ever find out the reason for the beatings of the 3 Indian students? Posted by: kidney at November 18, 2008 02:24 PM (QAdII) 169
The MSM is a huge part of this ignorance but face it, people everwhere have access to the same amount of cable channels and the internet as those of us that are informed. That they didn't get off their fat lazy ass to change the channel or surf the net anywhere but ebay is their own doing. I've got basic cable and the internet-the same as all these people on this tape probably have and I managed to find out about the issues and backgrounds of all the candidates. MSM gets about 65% of the blame and the ingorant voters get about 35%.

I'm not sure how to attack the system that's binding these people, but they are just as intelligent as you or me. I'm quite sure you're half right about that. Seriously, though, I doubt all of them are dumb. Most are just uninformed. But come on, at least a couple of them are morons. Especially the two white girls. This whole film has been pretty much debunked: I don't know that that debunks it, so much as questions it. Debunking it would be proving that all the people in it were actors or something. Instead, the site you link to doesn't exactly bring up any additional thoughts that I hadn't already considered upon initially watching it. Yes, the questions are unfair. Yes, it's biased. But nonetheless, the Obama supporters really couldn't answer many questions right, except the trivial ones about Palin. Hell, they couldn't even get the "Who controls Congress?" question right, which is a fair question. Personally, I don't think the vidoe proves all that much (although it's still fun to make fun of Obama supporters). I said before the election that most Americans have no idea who controls Congress and I wasn't just referring to Obama supporters. Overall, though, I think the video simply serves as a reminder that, most of the time, voters really don't vote on such high-minded concepts as knowledge and understand of the issues. Overall, people just vote for whoever they subjectively like better. Which is why I think encouraging more people to vote is a bad idea. They essentially disenfrachise the minority of us who pay attention and actually have studied and thought about various issues. It's not that I think uninformed people should be banned from voting, just not encouraged to do so (and which party is more responsible for encouraging such people to vote?). Posted by: Jason at November 18, 2008 04:03 PM (TR2hg) 173
Does it really matter at this point? Are we really going to spend the next four years figuring out why and how unfair the Republican loss was? We al saw it coming, it wasn't a huge surprise. The illuminati left has come into power, they dominate the capitol, and we have four years to figure out how to get it back.

Its not the ignorance that bothers me. Its the complete lack of shame they have about being dumbasses that is infuriating. This is what the liberal schooling 'self esteem' bullshit has done to people. Feel good about being an idiot! Its okay, we won't judge!

Dialogue: 1967 Abortions are legalized (started) in the United States. 1961 Momma Barry would have had an abortion if it were legal (in Hawaii in 1961). Baby Barry grows up to become President of the US (under what most rich liberals would call less than ideal conditions). Why are the Democrats really the "abortion on demand party"? That's why they hated Sarah Palin with so much passion. It's troubling when you know that you've done something wrong but you want everybody to condone what you've done. I'm not a one issue voter but the voracity at which the media went after Palin is very interesting. Posted by: Baby Barry at November 19, 2008 10:27 PM (2VvDL) 185
