Understatement of the Day

From the Chicago Tribune:

In a new afterword to his memoir, 1960s radical William Ayers describes himself as a "family friend" of President-elect Barack Obama and writes that the campaign controversy over their relationship was an effort by Obama's political enemies to "deepen a dishonest narrative" about the candidate.

Ayers describes phone threats and hate e-mail he received during the campaign, and he bemoans Obama's guilt by association.

During the campaign, Ayers' friendship with Obama was a favorite subject of conservative bloggers and talk show hosts who insisted the two were closer than the candidate was admitting. Ayers' new description of the relationship seems to contradict Obama's statements.

A little tiny bit, yeah.

2 Oh. My. God.

Fox is headlining its front page with "Can Palin Name Herself to Senate?" for this story. Despite the fact that Palin already said she would not appoint herself to fill Stevens' shoes.

Fox has gone over the edge.

Posted by: Jim62sch at November 13, 2008 09:53 PM (6rQXk)

3 These are seemingly contradictory statements.  But both must be true: Brack Obama never lies, of course, and Bill Ayers has no reason to do so.

Clearly, Barack Obama wasn't as close to Bill Ayers as Michelle and the little girls were.  I'm sure their relationship is ... close.

I'm not implying anything, just taking the statements logically.

4 It's almost like Obama isn't as good a man as Patterico tells us he is.

I'm shocked.

Likewise, it's almost like the Ed Morrisseys of the conservative world are feeling intimidated by Obama's ascendancy and attacking those of us who see a threat in Ayers' accolyte, buddy, and a Marxist in his own right seizing and accreting power to himself.

Maybe Ayer's really, really liked Obama and thought they were great friends, but Obama just liked Ayers, not liked liked him. So really, they're both telling the truth as they see it.

That would explain it.

You know someone in the other thread mentioned that their Obama supporting friends told them "we all have friends like Ayers, what's the big deal?" I thought I was the only one getting that line. It's nice to know it is the new narrative.

And you know what, I actually, to the best of my knowledge, don't have any friends or acquaintances who are unrepentant terrorists. No one that I know made and planted bombs in government buildings in the US. And, for more current history, no one that I know flushed $150 million in grants down the toilet pursuing a radical educational ideology. And, to give the she-devil her due, I know of not one person who thinks what Charles Manson did was cool and none of my friends have ever been charged with obstructing justice.

So, fuck you Bill Ayers. And fuck you to all my friends and acquaintances who think "it's no big deal." What he and his bitch of a wife did was a big deal, and the fact that candidate Obama repeatedly lied about his relationship with them should not be allowed to be whitewashed. But it will be. The MSM has the new narrative and all the Obama parrots are dutifully repeating it.

Posted by: ParanoidInSeattle at November 13, 2008 09:58 PM (AJ4xq)

8 "Obama allow a woman who celebrated the Manson murders babysit his children?"

There is no way a man who would take his children to Reverend Wright's church "every week" to listen to racist anti-American hatred in sermons would have tolerated that.

10 JavaJoe, when there's clear evidence Obama lied to the American electorate and Democratic primary voters about his relationship with William Ayers, a vile domestic terrorist, why do you have to bring gay racist fantasies into it?

Look, he's sort of a family friend, a distant friend, not close enough to be, hey, what he did was so long ago anyway.

The media asshole skept this shit tight so that they could have it hanging over Barry's head...or maybe they have a larger purpose for doing so, perhaps mainlining even further the belief that 60's era anti-war radicalism was really not a big deal, because what was Communism anyway but people sharing.

I put nothing past these warped fucks. I see what they teach those dunderhead students.

I don't know why we're still concerned about Ayers. He's a terrorist. He is or was Obama's friend /mentor.

But it means nothing if the story couldn't stop his election. He's in! The Ayers story can do nothing for us now except raise blood pressure. Most O-Bots didn't care, even if they knew the whole story.

Posted by: Wilhelm Klink at November 13, 2008 10:17 PM (8D00g)

19 I don't think it's ever too late to know the truth. I think anyone at this site wants to know what has really been going on. No, it can't effect this election but we have long memories and we have the ability to reason.

I still want to know about Obama's college papers, more of his work at Annenberg, his time overseas and a lot of other details lost in this election. I am NOT a conspiracy theorist. But considering we just elected a man who is "a family freind" of someone who actively sought to kill policemen and who married a raving lunatic (read her comments about the Manson murders) I think we need to keep digging about this man. For whatever outcome, I don't know. But knowing the truth is an honorable thing.

The amazing thing is his organization actually BOMBED the PENTAGON. I mean for Christ's sakes. It wrote "Prairie Fire" too. Absolutely nuts, violent, psychopathic. And they were willing to kill decamillions of Americans if necessary.

No more than the Soviets of Communist Chinese, but not much less either. Of course -- that's where they got the idea.

And this man was a family friend of the Obama's, served on 2 boards with Obama one of which he hand picked Obama as CEO.

Amazing. America has free citizens, but the electorate is scary. Not just its President. It's citizenry.

31 Think about who Ayers is - he don't give a fuck. He's putting it right out there, a big middle finger in America's face. His boy is in now, so he's letting loose. The only way this becomes something is if the media challenge the king about this - if they press him on it, he's going to have to throw Bill under the bus and say he doesn't agree with this characterization. Then, Ayers might get all revolutionary on Obama and fuck him over. That's the fire you bitches need to spark. Push the media to challenge the king, then hope Ayers goes Ayers and bucks up against king O.

They didn't want to know the truth.

The Media gave them an out.  It's easy to disbelieve, something that is in itself unbelievable, no matter the facts, if those facts are never reported.

I underestimated the association, and I couldn't stand Obama, until the last like 3 weeks of the election, because noone bothered checking or reporting the facts that are apparently, RIGHT FUCKING THERE!

The Media created an environment of "you had to be there," making it seem false, when there is pleanty of information describing that you didn't have to be there, pleanty of other people were.  Like Khalidi, like the chick at the LA times who whiped her blog that paterico found, like Rezco, who's sentencing was delayed only weeks before the election, like Dohrn, who IS guilty of a crime, no matter the malfeasence of the government she admitted her guilt with her own words.

But shit like that?  who cares, we needed history made, and the media was dedicated to future history.  The unfortunate thing, is that the future, and the history that might play out, won't be about a black president if we don't slow this shit down, it will be a coup within the US against the constitution, and individual liberties.

Sorry, I hate when I get cassandra, but there are dots all over the fucking place, and none of the genius journalists have bothered to say that one dot looks like it connects to this one.
