Ace - You might try using two different broadband provider types, like cable & DSL (don't bother with two DSL: the phone companies own the copper).

There are dual WAN broadband routers (like the Linksys RV042), that make it pretty easy to change to your secondary ISO in a few seconds (using http management ...they're a lot like using your normal router), if the primary one is giving you fits. (That's the simple scenario: most of the "roll-over" routers can do a lot more than just that ...though that's what they're best at IMO.)

My wife and I both work from home, and we simply cannot be without Internet access. And we haven't been sans access for the 3 years or so that I've been using this setup.

...and since I used to pay for ISDN in the late 90's, I don't bitch about the cost of two broadband providers, either (the cost for both is a bit less than I was paying back then for my dual-64K/128K ISDN connection in those pre-DSL, pre-cable days) ...and a heckuva lot cheaper than a T1 (or partial T1) too.
