Shep Smith Continues His Six Year Audition for MSNBC

Why?

1 Shep is gifted.  shep is a liberal.  shep is annoying.

Posted by: w2 at November 12, 2008 07:26 PM (MobLv)

2 I never watch him. As was said, he's annoying. Going back, his Katrina shit was what sealed the deal with me.

Posted by: PoconoJoe at November 12, 2008 07:29 PM (okhbH)

3 Shep is a POS.

God damn I wish I didn't have family members that thought like him.

Posted by: Christoph at November 12, 2008 07:29 PM (hawOV)

4 I'm presuming that a comedian was chosen to represent the right. Is that true and is that a coincidence?

Posted by: Nutmegory at November 12, 2008 07:30 PM (D1qhi)

5 Shep is an idiot and a lightweight.  Trying to watch him after a great guy like Brit Hume is torture.  He has always been the weakest guy in their lineup and is truly a stupid person.  Despite his lack of judgment, his delivery is downright boring.

6 Hasn't MSNBC already met their Homo Quota (HQ)?

Posted by: 48 Percenter at November 12, 2008 07:31 PM (GqdSt)

7 I wish that guy had had a better argument to throw in Shep's face.  Why was the race Obama's to lose? Because the media was handing him the election on a silver platter.

The best part is that now that BHO is elected they have to cover for him and make him look like the best President ever or they look like shitheads for not vetting the guy.

Posted by: kefka at November 12, 2008 07:34 PM (Ui4gz)

8 I arrived at the conclusion Smith wasn't too bright during Katrina - my wife really dislikes him and after 47 years I've learned she is usually right!

9 Shep WTF? Are you joking?

Posted by: bitter, clinging Pennsylvanian at November 12, 2008 07:41 PM (bd68Z)

10 Even Holly Springs, MS, his hometown, is embarrassed.  Why doesn't Shep Girl go to CNN, then he could give makeup tips to Anderson Cooper?

Posted by: Liberace at November 12, 2008 07:41 PM (sKPmg)

11 I can't stomach him.
Notice he has the same voice as Mr. Garrison?

Posted by: the real joe at November 12, 2008 07:42 PM (NJ/RA)

12 Yeah I'm no TV personality but I think I could have made a better argument.

Shep is so full of shite he can't stop it pouring out of his mouth.

Posted by: fireweed at November 12, 2008 07:43 PM (rSr2s)

13 it's not just that he's liberal.  it's that he's arrogantly, smugly so.  I want to slap that smile off his face everytime he informs me "Global warming is real.  It just isssss..."

Posted by: ace at November 12, 2008 07:43 PM (8T2pi)

14

To answer Shep's own question...Bush won in 2004 thanks to Memogate, which effectively short circuited the media and exposed them as a bunch of partisan hacks.

According to the media, Bush didn't 'win'  in 2000, thanks to the media's piss poor reporting and paparazzi style that tried to draw out the ratings bonanza of Gore's temper tantrum.

15 The MSM could have destroyed Obama in one weekend, hell the LA times could have done it alone.

STFU Shemp.

16 Shep Smith is a douche bag.........how can that fuckhead get in Nick's face and say that the media had nothing to do with this ????? Any sane person can tell you it is truthful.

Posted by: ironman at November 12, 2008 07:48 PM (XWJh5)

17 Look at what the MSM did to Palin. Just think if they put half the effort into going after Obama or Biden for that matter. They would of ripped them apart. How many times do you think you will hear them calling Obama the names and disrespect they showed toward Bush?

I'm betting once this fuckface gets fired or resigns, he'll be the first Fox 'Insider' who writes a tell-all book about the evils of that Right Wing Propoganda Machine, Fox News.

Shep isn't liberal. He's just a self important cockbag.

Actually, that's the same thing.

25 Shep likes to go off the reservation now and again. He is not to be trusted. The crap he's shoveling here is pure barbrastreisand-- you'd have to be intentionally obtuse not to have seen the 'daytime hooker' screwing the public got from the MSM.
I've been off Shep since I saw him jump and browbeat some poor low-level DPU worker just getting out of his truck during Katrina. You can bet your ass that Shep wouldn't have treated Mayor Ray Chocolate Nagin that way.

34

I'm not surprised at Shep Smith's behaviour on that video.  A few years ago several Fox personalities were having an on-air discussion about why they felt that they were more fair-and-balanced than any of the other networks. One of the females (Ican't remember who, maybe E. D. Hill ?) said "yes, we've got Shep Smith -- and he's VERY liberal..."  And then they all were nodding their heads agreeing...

41 35 So Bush was a rollicking success, and this fact is being kept from us by the MSM?

I think the point that people like you keep missing isn't that they might have had points about Bush, but that they rather overstate the case, and certainly look the other way for things like the really bad congress comprised of a majority of Democrats, and totally overlooked reporting on just where the mortgage mess started ( try Democratic policies again!) And they are sure to keep it up ever worse for the next four years, because the "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" act they had down during the election of Mr Obama will always stand as one of the most appalling and ugly examples of leftwing media bias ever.
Of course  you don't address that little problem.. do you?

48 From the Washington Blade:

"Cooper isn’t the only well-known TV personality hiding his sexual orientation. Shepard Smith, who hosts a popular program on Fox News and received widespread praise for his work covering Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, also dodges questions about his sexual orientation.

Smith once chatted me up in a New York City gay piano bar, bought me drinks, and invited me back to his place. When I declined, he asked me to dinner the next night, another invitation I politely refused.

We sat at the bar chatting and drinking martinis until 3 a.m., our conversation interrupted only when he paused to belt out the lyrics to whatever showtune was being performed."

Posted by: Murph at November 12, 2008 08:25 PM (m7FCp)

49 My favorite Shep story was when he was arrested during the Florida recount. Apparently he was pulling into a parking spot and someone from another network had one of their staffers standing in the spot to "save" it. Shep apparently told them to move, and when they didn't he hit them with his car.

56 Shep Smith = serious cognitive dissonance

Other than the few 100 times non-journalists had to do their job for them in digging up stuff (unless it was in Alaska), then sure, the MSM was very balanced.

Some posters are suggesting that Sheppard Smith is  homosexual.  I'm not convinced this is factual, but I do believe the boy would be bad to hold one in his mouth, but by God, he sure wouldn't suck on it.

59 47 Democrats prepare to move forward with investigations of the Bush administration... Developing...

Investigating the Bush administration will be a great distraction and essentially meaningless.  They will consume all of the media time with this and overplay their hand.   So much better than actually pushing their programs on us.   While they fiddle, New York may even wake up to another little surprise.   I'm pleasantly surprised they haven't been talking about getting rid of the filibuster.  The democrat senators are so stupid, they would not even realize how they would be giving their power to the administration.

64 It's really not that difficult to demonstrate media bias. I would like to see someone who is articulate in the facts argue against Shep.

The media reported (falsely) than Sarah Palin was a member of the Independence party despite a lack of evidence.

The media NEVER reported on Barack Obama's membership or affiliation with the Socialist off-shoot New Party, despite confirmatory evidence.

Posted by: IC at November 12, 2008 09:35 PM (P32hP)

76

Ace, let's talk about three separate phenomena:

1. The media was biased in favor of Obama -- this goes back at least to fall 2007, and the Hillary people bitched, bitched, bitched about it.

2. The GOP image has been on life-support since 2006. Bush fatigue, brand damage, whatever you want to call it, having an "R" beside your name hasn't been this tough since 1974.\

3. John McCain's campaign ran one of the worst media-relations operations since Nixon. I mean, Jeebus, they were hostile to *conservative* reporters.

Now, of these three factors, perhaps #1 was decisive. But considering how badly the Bush administration has fucked up and how badly the McCain campaign was run, Shep is right: Whining about "bias" is just an excuse.

Well, he knows damned good and well that he'll never step into Brit's shoes. Not with Chris Wallace...and Bill Hemmer...and Megyn Kelly...and Bret Baer all ahead of him. Which, of course, is precisely where all of them should be.

He might as well shoot for the tops of crazy town.

As an aside, having traveled to New Orleans just a few months after Katrina, I can say that, in this one circumstance, even Shep's hysterics didn't do justice to just how bad it really was. In fact, it was his usual hysterics that actually made many roll their eyes and discount the gravity of what was happening.

Proof, really, of how truly bad a reporter/journalist he really is. He wasn't capable of conveying the magnitude of the event.

He should fire his make-up artist, way too much foundation..

Shep looks like he was born into this world as a "cheryl". Are we sure he has always been a man since birth? He missed his true calling, would make a fantastic drag queen with his looks. Even natrual women don't look as femine as Shep

Fox seems to like him.  They keep tinkering with the 5:00 ET slot, I wish they'd do something else with his slot at 7:00 ET.  More Megyn Kelly, I say.

I'm afraid my first response was "Who's Shep Smith?"

I kept thinking of Snuffy Smith (from the comics), and I thought, "Snuffy Smith would be a great newsreader."  I might start watching TV again if they had shows where Snuffy Smith and Andy Capp debated the issues.

I couldn’t watch all of the video it just pissed me off the longer it went and I wanted to reach up in the screen and slap the bitch silly.

What is funny is my mother-in-law came over yesterday and the TV was off. She remarked “What, you don’t have Fox News on?”.  I told her that Fox was now in the tank for Obama and too busy kissing his ass to deliver real news. She then was in agreement, it should be off.

I turned on Fox this morning for my daily check. Things were going pretty good for a while as they talked about the “bailout” and Bloomberg suing the Fed. But then they started talking about Obama’s children and where they should go to school. There they went into the full suck mode; off it went.

109 Glad to know I'm not the only one that found Shep detestable during Katrina.  That actually marks the spot when I gave up on all MSM.  He sealed the deal on the small bit of Fox news I bothered with.  I haven't looked back since.

Posted by: my 2 cents at November 13, 2008 07:28 AM (Iat3G)

I know that this is redundant but ALL of the news media went asshole on Katrina. They printed and displayed unsubstantiated and outlandish rumor and later after finding that it was all totally false slunk away and failed to do retractions. In this Fox was just like the rest of them who were just out to get Bush. They were simply publishing the LA Dem Party talking points.

To this day I have not heard ANY news service say that the Bush admin didn’t do anything wrong and that FEMA is not supposed to be a first responder. Instead some of them continue to print the bullshit version blaming Bush for everything.  Bush was part of the problem when he, like always, failed to fight back.

111 Breaking News"Shep under Fire" was the best when the dear boy found himself only kilometers from the point of impact of a Katyushya . Close call.  One of the small favors of this election is the revelation of Fox as a parody of a news source.  BBC World if I have to watch some vid news.

Posted by: JohnTBissell at November 13, 2008 07:52 AM (AjfGV)

I fired this e-mail off to Shep in Studio B:

Your statement that MSM bias toward Obama in this election is 'preposterous' is one of the most idiotic, lamebrained, comments, ever. Do you have that much of a crush on Obama or have you been in a self-induced coma?  As a news 'reporter' who's supposed to be familiar with election coverage outside your own network, you are woefully ignorant.

Tell you what Shep, I'll personally e-mail you a crapload of examples, not the least of which is an ADMISSION BY THE WASHINGTON POST about their bias. I'll provide all kinds of videos, articles, commentaries, and news stories, that were and are so far in Obama's tank, that it's apparent they worked for his campaign.

Time, Newsweek, The New York TImes, Salon, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSBNC, are  just some of the Obama vehicles in the media.

Denying their blatant, over the top, leftwing Obama lust, is indicative of someone who is either in the Obama tank themselves, or unqualified to be in the broadcast industry.

I haven't received a response yet, to say the least.

119 Shep Smith is exactly right. The media didn't help Sen Obama win. Sen Obama won because he was more in control, more dignified, more presidential and less petty and mean spirited and whiney than McCain. He also has much better ideas. If you hold a camera up to both, that's what you get. The media didn't get the chance to see Obama pick a gimmick as VP so we didn't see that....Get over it.. Stop whining about the media and get some better ideas for how to serve the country...

Whiney losers....so sad. When you lose, you're supposed to actually LEARN something..

122 He's right in the sense that people were determined not to elect another Republican administration. There was almost nothing McCain could have done to change that. However, to deny that the media was in the tank for Obama is completely crazy. Even liberal journalists will admit the media was openly pulling for him.

Something happened to Shep (aka Max Headroom) on that bridge in New Orleans, for shizzle!

My WTF Shep moment was on election night.  He had Nader on, and Nader stated that Obama has a CHOICE---he can be Uncle Sam or he can be Uncle Tom.  Shep took it as though Nader was calling Obama an Uncle Tom, which he wasn't, and had a look of tremendous distaste.  I have NEVER, to the best of my recollection, sided with Ralph Nader.  But Shep practically demanded that he apologize, and Nader rightfully refused.  I will probably only say this once in my lifetime, so here goes:  Ralph Nader was right to say what he said.  He just didn't say it artfully.  He should have said, "Obama has to choose whether he will be hailed as a success or derided as a sell-out."  There you go Shep.  Are those soft and fluffy words okay with you?

DC's Brian Bolter can't wait for Shep to go to MSNBC so he can snap up Shep's spot on Fox.

128 Shep gives me the heebie jeebies - always has.  The whole event was so bizarre! I saw it about 5 minutes before Shep started his MSNBC audition and it went like this.....  Everything was going along fine, la la la... and Shep kept peeking over at Dipaolo - then Dipaolo spoke and Shep went nuts!  I never saw such a severe case of the vapors!  Suddenly the room got awkward...... a little time went by and Shep left, some new people showed up and then the judge said how handsome Dipaolo was and had him look into the camera and Dipaolo was like WTF???   IT WAS ODD.
