Obama's transition chief is a UFO aficionado

Unicorns, UFO's, its all the same shit I guess (link is to a 2002 CNN article).

...former White House chief of staff and an international investigative journalist want to know what the Pentagon knows, calling on it to release classified files about that and other incidents involving unidentified flying objects, or UFOs.

"It is time for the government to declassify records that are more than 25 years old and to provide scientists with data that will assist in determining the real nature of this phenomenon," ex-Clinton aide John Podesta said Tuesday...

...Podesta was one of numerous political and media heavyweights on hand in Washington, D.C., to announce a new group to gain access to secret government records about UFOs.

Specifically, the Coalition for Freedom of Information (CFI) is pressing the Air Force for documents involving Project Moon Dust and Operation Blue Fly, clandestine operations reported to have existed decades ago to investigate UFOs and retrieve objects of unknown origins...

Hi, I'm John Podesta, and I'm batshit crazy, but there's nothing you can do about it since I'm with The One.

You're not crazy John, we ARE coming for YOU.

26 Put Podesta along with Kucinich on the next space shuttle. Dennis the Menace saw a UFO last year during one of the Democratic presidential debates: "It was an unidentified flying object, OK? It's, like, it's unidentified," Kucinich said. "I saw something. . . . You have to keep in mind that more — that Jimmy Carter saw a UFO and also that more people in this country have seen UFOs than I think approve of George Bush's presidency," Kucinich said.

47 It's quid pro quo for support from the writer's union that includes the press.

Obama's going to need a lot of fantasy and sensationalism to distract America from his presidency: "that rare mixture of up to no good and good for nothing" as Marge Simpson's sister put it.

There's no better cover than an avalanche of UFO unclassified information. But that ignores all of the British files that are already available to the public. Since the campaign concluded, the press is complaining at being caught having produced so much whole cloth; the unraveling of their fabricated tales reveals their grotesque asses, NOT beautiful people. Distract and hold attention for an inordinate amount of time, just like the overabundant campaign period, modus operandi.

It isn't "science" that benefits from this shit. That's just another faux "good intention"--Obama is so FOR anything that enables Big Brother. Is Obama looking for a ride in a UFO to be the first ever world leader INVITED to take a spin with the overlords of "world citizens" as prince of darkness, THAT one?

Yes.  He built a "shrine" to the X-Files (the show, not the files) in the White House.  I read a (really terribly written, so I'm not going to look for it again) essay about how the end of the Bush admin is going to be great for conspiracy and "dark, cynical" sci-fi because now people will be "free" to criticize the Bush admin.  Like they haven't been for eight years, or something.  I'd agree there's going to be a lot of dark, cynical, government-conspiracy-driven entertainment, but it's going to be just like the Clinton years--distraction from the real shit actually happening in front of us.

(Personally, I believe there has to be intelligent life out there somewhere, because the paucity of intelligent life down here would leave God bored and depressed if he didn't have a second terrarium to watch...)

The timing of this is precious.  Just today, there is a Nicholas Kristoff editorial espousing how wonderful it is that we finally have someone in office who unapologetically revels in his super-intellectualism, as opposed to the previous set of mouthbreathers who believe in UFOs.

Eh, I've seen UFO's, but I don't think they were alien.  Saw a couple of wings flying north along I-75, about 30 miles north of Dayton one time.  Given the timeframe for when it happened, I think it was that Boeing flying wing UAV, but no definite ID, so UFO.

Though it'd be interesting if they did do a dump of something like Project Bluebook.  Some of it would be comedy gold (like the reports my mom had to file about this old lady calling her base ops station all the time to report "Unidentified Japanese Aircraft" mysteriously along the approach corridor to the Naval Air Station she worked at), and some would be interesting to see reports of stuff like the how things like the Blackbird tests correlate to sightings.
