| The Hope? It's Not Going To Happen [Vinnie]The Change? The first major hit from Al Qaeda on U.S. soil in over 7 years. OSAMA bin Laden is planning an attack against the United States that will "outdo by far" September 11, an Arab newspaper in London has reported. And according to a former senior Yemeni al-Qaeda operative, the terrorist organisation has entered a "positive phase", reinforcing specific training camps around the world that will lead the next "wave of action" against the West. The warning, on the front page of an Arabic newspaper published in London, Al-Quds Al-Arabi - and widely reported in the major Italian papers - quotes a person described as being "very close to al-Qaeda" in Yemen. Is the Yemeni credible? The blogosphere's renowned expert on Yemen, Jane Novak, says yes. It's, like, 1976 all over again. Update Some commenters are expressing their belief that Bin Laden is dead. That may very well be true. But it doesn't matter what we believe. What matters is what they believe. See you next Open Blog. Comments1
Wow ... good news and then very bad news. I wouldn't put it past them. Hopefully, intelligence will thwart the attack ... unless it already happened. You know, Gutterball getting elected?

So...after the attack the public will demand that something be done, and of course, Obama will do something that isn't popular, like let's say a Civil Security Force to protect us from further attack.
This force will be as well funded and strong as the US Military. CSF Defending your freedoms here in your own backyard Posted by: JavaJoe at November 09, 2008 07:40 PM (Am6n/) 3

So we have an inverse Reagan going on WRT terrorists:
Carter out, Reagan in = Islamic radical pants-shitting Bush out, Obama in = Islamic radical mouth-drooling There's going to be change all right. Either this nation gets whacked on Obama's watch due to his weakened foreign policy, or Obama adopts the mantle the foreign policy hawks (courtesy Bush) built for Obama and he ticks off all his new global "friends" and domestic moonbats. At the risk of sounding cold and heartless, there's a nugget of schadenfreude in there somewhere. It's tragic that innocents may die, but that's apparently what the nation wants. For the unity and healing. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at November 09, 2008 07:53 PM (sI5Ho) 8

Osama has been dead for at least 5 years so not sure if this is real. That said it is pretty clear that O is going to be tested by AQ, Russia, NK, Venezuela etc and he had better not soil his pants or we're all in deep garbage. His confusion over the Poland missile shield and word that he sent his envoy to Syria and Eygpt promising better relations aren't comforting. Related note - in a deep blue state and just got back from a dinner party. Most of the attendees are pretty solid Dem and all of them were worried about O and all claimed they voted for McCain and wondered how the heck he got elected. Agree 100%. It would be like constantly counting American casualties - almost like your hoping for more casualties to make your sitting president look bad. Or verbalizing that more casualties means more senate seats. Disgusting? Yes. Is it what America seems to want? Seems like it. Turkmenbashi,
Who is cheerleading? I'll preempt the charge if you're directing that at me with: "...or Obama adopts the mantle the foreign policy hawks (courtesy Bush) built for Obama and he ticks off all his new global "friends" and domestic moonbats." That right there is schadenfreude - sweet, dripping, Obama-is-no-agent-of-change-and-every-critical-thinker-knows-it schadenfreude. I'll trust your powers of comprehension noticed that and you're just making a general point. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at November 09, 2008 08:03 PM (sI5Ho) 20

One of the main reasons the Dems are enjoying their new found power is due to Bush's phenominal execution of the War on Terror. Did anyone honestly think we wouldn't get a single attack 7 years after 9/11? Has everyone just forgotten what happened that day after 8 years of pathetic Democratic policies? Bush's complete eviceration of Al Qaeda has allowed Dem's to sneer at Bush for being a failure, since no one notices when a terrorist attack doesn't happen. Liberals have spent that time flipping back and forth, saying Bush's policies have failed, created more terrorist...but at the same time the 'War on Terror' is just a bumper sticker and a distraction used by a power mad President to spy on innocent Wisconsin librarians. No one is rooting for a terrorist attack. But it will clearly demonstrate the stark difference between Obama and Bush's view on how to handle the problem. And I fear Obama's will be the same as Clinton's. Posted by: El Kabong at November 09, 2008 08:09 PM (0BPlb) 23

So what is your plan of action, if you were President right now, because we know that these scum would not hesitate to use a nuclear weapon and if it ever happens, well let's just say that, I don't want to even talk about what would happen, a lot of people in this country forget about 9/11, they act as if another attack is not possible. An al-Qaeda attack on the United States is going to happen regardless of who the president is, sorry. As I remember the 9/11 report they still have sleepers in this country. They are an organization that thinks long-term and have a established set of objectives they will not give up on.
The good thing is, I believe, Obama will not want to have on his record an attack that can't be blamed on the prior administration. If this is a credible threat Bush will definitely brief him on it, on record, and on any on-going operations to counter it. There's some scary stuff at Powerline to think about: In the November 17 issue of the National Review (not available online to my knowledge), John Fonte of the Hudson Institute identifies four "transnational power grabs" that Obama is likely to push for They are: the Law of the Sea Treaty, the Rights of the Child Treaty, the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the International Criminal Court. Agreement by the U.S. to these arrangements would make us more popular with foreigners, but only at a cost to our national security, our right of self-governance, and our rights under the Constitution. As Fonte explains, the Law of the Sea Treaty could result in maritime disputes involving U.S. defense forces being arbitrated by an international panel composed of 21 judges, some of whom would be chosen by the likes of China, Russia, and Cuba. The Rights of the Child Treaty would require uniform penal codes for minors in all 50 states. It would abolish the death penalty and life imprisonment for everyone under the age of 18. And it would limit parental rights, for example by granting children the legal right to correspond with anyone, anywhere, without interference from their parents. According to Fonte, CEDAW would likely result in the imposition of gender-based preferences in multiple spheres, including elective offices. He says the U.N. committee that monitors compliance with CEDAW has called on the Republic of Georgia to return to its Communist-era policy of gender quotas in public offices. Britain has be told to adopt the "comparable worth" standard of "equal pay" under which bureaucrats set pay rates. Fonte also warns that CEDAW would provide a method for "overturning a vast array of federal and state laws that [feminists] do not have the votes to defeat through democratic means." The ICC, according to Obama foreign-policy advisor Sarah Sewall, "represents an acid test for America's commitment to international and universal concepts of justice and human rights." The problem is that under the ICC American soldiers could be charged with war crimes and tried by a court comprised of judges whose interests and values are foreign to our own. Thus, the ICC is indeed an acid test. . .of our commitment to national sovereignty and self-governance. That's truly really scary stuff.Posted by: Tinian at November 09, 2008 09:15 PM (Ohodx) 109

The original post sought to score cheap political points via schadenfreude by implying a terrorist attack as a consequence of Obama's election, his election, not mind you, his policies. Of course because of his election, what do you think? Did the Iranians release the American embassy hostages because of Reagan's policies? They did it the day he was inaugurated, no policies in place whatsoever. Do you imagine terrorists only carry out their actions after holding a moderated debate on their enemy's "policies"? Like good gamblers, they act when the odds of succeeding tilt in their favour, and a straw-stuffed designer suit on his way to occupy the White House is a big, fat GO signal.

I dunno. Does the name Sandy Berger ring a bell? And are extra baggy pants a popular style in Chicago? Precedent says that records can be purged, the reporting of it embargoed/stonewalled, with great ease. Had H. Clinton won, Berger, a man who shredded documents to cover up the B. Clinton administration's handling of terrorism, would have been available to render his services once again. Bush has been blamed for not handling Clinton's mismanagement of terrorists adequately, and you can bet Obama would carry on with the tradition. Guaranteed. Bush still won his war with the terrorists, despite the adversity. I don't believe Obama will be as successful and certainly he won't be if he follows the policies he has voiced so far - assuming you can discern the one he actually believes from the pre-primary and post-primary rhetoric. f, God forbid...honestly, God forbid, something really bad happens and we lose a city or suffer significant damage, I fear our response will be "measure and appropriate" by liberal standards. In other words, a pin prick. I disagree. I think it's very hard to predict exactly what anyone's reaction to such a thing would be. When you get an insecure mediocrity, thin-skinned and obsessing about being "disrespected", and push him really hard into a corner, it's not at all out of the question for him to lash out with disproportionate force. Obama could be the sort who would want to "teach everyone a lesson" and end up decapitating an entire country. Liberals are not at all pacific people, despite their self-delusion; they're simmering cauldrons of anger and grievance, with oversized egos and narcissism thrown in. They aren't people who can be relied upon to turn the other cheek every time.

Then I would add : "Our new policy will be to totally destroy, using Conventional Weapons, Every Warship, Fighter Jet, Military Installation, Command and Control Facility and The Capitol of any Nation that dares attack us. We don't like "Collateral Damage", so be advised to get out of our way. If things start blowing up around you, that would be us doing it. We will NOT do this quickly. Jeebus, I was about to ask where Jamie Gorelick was going to surface! We need to raise hell if that woman is ever allowed anywhere near a public office again! And that includes deluging the MSM with messages that tell them that if they clam up on her, and she gets in, and anything bad happens... well we will make sure it happens to them too! I am approaching to the point where I will have to weigh my personal life-long record as a law-abiding citizen against the willful negligence of others toward the safety of my country. It's getting to that. IYKWIMAITYD Posted by: sherlock at November 09, 2008 09:58 PM (ojW85) 163

If something like this happened, it would have to persuade at least 2/3 of the US population (I'm convinced that the Independents in this country aren't all stupid, but they don't always pay attention to what's going on politically) that nothing we could do would make them not hate us. That realization would open up Muslims all over the West to a world of hurt, as the same realization played out in country after country. From a long-term perspective, it doesn't seem to really make sense. That said "sowing terror in the hearts of infidels" is a religious commandment for these people. Posted by: venividivici at November 09, 2008 10:33 PM (YMBpU) 174
I also believe that if Obama did nothing because he was OK with "damning America", he'd be impeached so fast his head would spin. Only 10% of people opposed Bush going to war in the initial aftermath of 9/11. If this potential attack was worse than 9/11, I would be surprised if 90% of people didn't demand tough action and could be persuaded that to not do so was an impeachable offense. If this country is to survive, Democrats need to be tough against some other people besides Republicans. If they have to, they can imagine Al-Quaeda is an offshoot of the Southern Baptists.

Well if Gorelick is AG we can forget about any investigation into ACORN, campaign finance fraud and any other shenanigans that have occurred or will occur during the Obammunist regime. She will cover his ass 24-7 and may even fuck that up since everything she's touched the last 10 years has turned to shit.
I'm also beginning to think that there is something much more global, as in sinister global, with the Obammunist. I think by selecting Rahm-bo, he's sent a clear signal to the 77% of Jewish vote that voted for him that he'll defend Israel. If anything, I could see a pre-emptive strike on Iran in the first few months of his regime. Remember, the Obammunist and his ilk are about power consolidation. It's already started with the manufactured financial crisis. You know the financial world has not collapsed and Chairman Paulson has yet to spend one dime on these supposed toxic assets these institutions are carrying. Yet banks have consolidated and merged and now he's spent $125B on these bank stocks. Now the talk about seizing our 401Ks....another consolidation. And remember Plugs said this international crisis in the first 6 months will be a 'generated crisis' which suggests that we initiate it. And that the Obammunist's response may not be viewed as the correct one. So.....we give the green light to Israel or join Israel in lighting up Tehran. Ahchmanutjob and AQ unleashes a massive sleeper cell response which then allows the Obammunist to issue a martial law order and use the crisis to consolidate power within our border.....it's for our safety, right? Or, with the globalist angle, the response is large enough worldwide to cause world leaders to ponder a consolidation of world power which starts to take on biblical implications. Now you may think this is tin-foil hat stuff but did you really think 3 months ago that this country would have just elected a full blown Marxist as POTUS? So keep that in mind as you ponder my post. Nothing is beyond the realm of possibility at this point. We are in uncharted waters right now. Posted by: TheAdmiral at November 09, 2008 10:46 PM (zNl33) 176
The Democrats would have been tough after 9-11.
The trick is... one word... Nukes. See, Bush made the huge mistake of trying to do this whole thing with a light touch. Too few troops, too little oversight from the get-go, too much expectation of working effectively with the locals. The result is... it took way too long... way way way past the average person's attention span, or the amount of time a normal person can hold on to a really fast burning case of vengeance. Nukes solves this problem. Posted by: Synova at November 09, 2008 10:48 PM (NxP4A) 177

OK to follow up on my post at 175, a quote from a speech that British PM Brown will give tomorrow that should give us all shivers.
"The alliance between Britain and the U.S. -- and more broadly between Europe and the U.S. -- can and must provide leadership, not in order to make the rules ourselves, but to lead the global effort to build a stronger and more just international order.[emphasis mine] As Plugs said, time to gird your loins. Obama probably has a nuke. From Pakistan's arsenal, or North Korea, or Iran, or maybe Russia.
He'll let it off in NYC. Kill about 6 million people or so. It's all about them, never about us. Bin Laden or whoever is running AQ these days (Zawahari?) needs men and money and those only come when his organization kills LOTS of Americans. He takes out NYC, he can raise an army to take over Egypt (Zawahari's goal) or Saudi (Osama's). This is reality. Men and money got to those who kill the most Americans. There is no "deal" or hugs and kisses that can avoid that. GWB killed terrorists, locked others up, and did whatever he had to -- listening in to their conversations, e-mails, IMs, and so on, to stop them before they could strike again. Obama is committed to hugs and kisses and so we will lose NYC. He would, after the attack, as the self-proclaimed "Defender of Muslims" (no, really, he said he would stand with Muslims against America) call for "restraint" and "understanding of why they are angry." We'd get hit again, of course. Obama can't fight. He's never done so. His answer for everything is Blame America (and Whitey). Expecting him to stand up for America is like expecting his Pastor Rev. God Damn America or Farrakhan to stand up for America. Never happen. Figure he's impeached, convicted. Posted by: whiskey at November 09, 2008 10:55 PM (4878o) 180

If I were a betting person, I would bet on a strike on Washington. They tried Washington last time and really didn't do alot of damage. I know it is alot to those who were impacted by the hit on the Pentagon (I'm not being cold), but the original plan was one plane in the Pentagon and one into the capitol or White House. And AQ always goes back to "finish" the job.
How many of us think of Washington when 9/11 is mentioned? It's always NY. They went back to the towers cause the 93 bombing didn't do the job. This time it will be Washington. Mark my words. Plus they will add a few more cities for targets just to get everyone on edge. I would bet on December just to really screw with the economy and ruin Christmas. My 2 cents. It's a valid point. If the response to 9/11 had been a mushroom cloud over Kabul on 9/12, the world would STILL be scared shitless. "How many of us think of Washington when 9/11 is mentioned?" I do. Hey AQ, we have lots of blue blue cities on each coast. And we will have one heck of a time defending them after Barney Frank gets his 25% defense cut. Think how conservative Florida would be without Miami. Or Washington without Seattle, Oregon without Portland, Virginia without the DC suburbs, etc. I think Clancy did a novel about how bad it would be if terrorists were to take out the US capitol during a POTUS state of the union speech. Dave, that is why I excepted those who were directly impacted. For most of fly-over country, when you say 9/11, the image that comes to mind is the Twin Towers, not the Pentagon or Pennsylvania. Unfortunate, but that is the image that has been sold via the dead media. Where were the cameras pointed for weeks on end? It subsumes the other targets of that day to little more than also-rans. And it stinks. But that is the reality of discussions of 9/11.
Katrina wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast from Pensacola to Texas, but when you say Katrina, people think of New Orleans. Go to Biloxi for a reality check on that meme. New Orleans has actually come farther than most of MS since Katrina, yet New Orleans still gets all the attention. Posted by: bmeuppls at November 09, 2008 11:58 PM (lNXkY) 189

Obama will only use harsh language. Tut-tutting, he will follow Biden's advice and send $200 million to the Persians (Bozo Biden's actual suggestion on September 11th, when we thought we'd lost 25,000 dead) as a bribe, or perhaps a reward, for butchering thousands of Americans.
Oh, yeah: Joe, you old laser-brain, Iranians aren't Arabs. And if you give them boatloads of money for attacking us, why the fukc would they stop????? The Left has worked nonstop to geld us as a nation. They want a nation of steers, not bulls. Ball-less and defenseless. All so they can consolidate their power. Judge Robert Bork pointed out recently (on C-span) that the Left is anti-American because we've been the only bulwark opposing their drive to convert us into an oligarchy. The self-appointed "Olympians" will decide what's "best" for us to do, and dictate that accordingly. It's worse than him being incompetetant. I wish that's all it was. He's tough and he's shrewd. And he very European in his thinking. In that way he is what many of us would call unAmerican. If we begin to face a prickly situation, he is going to say we will be stronger standing united - in alliance with other nations. That we basically have no choice. It will require us to forgo some of our sovreignty...those treaties listed on Power Line up above - those have been in talks for a long time - we just haven't had a President or congress that would go for it. This one will, if he can whip up a frenzy of fear to make everyone support it. Biden "gaffe" is starting to sound strangely purposeful and accurate to me. On lighter note - did someone say 70s bands? Quite honestly, when we are attacked I doubt I will be able to feel anything if it is hitting a blue city. For 8 years we've been vilified, screamed at by elitists and anti-faith bigots, described as sub-human by these shitheels, and watched them commit sedition against our country just to advance their own political game. See, when it happens (and it will) I doubt I will feel anything but mild sympathy. Just as if there were a report of a terrorist attack on, say, Russia. Mild sympathy, nothing greater - because, you see, they're not my countrymen. Same thing for San Francisco. Not America. Too bad, they don't realize they've spent 8 years telling us that we were nothing like them - so now I believe it. I'm nothing like them, therefore they are foreigners. There's not going to be any solidarity. No feeling of unity. Just a bit of dold sympathy and boredom and no one I know would donate anything but a gallon of lemonade and two feet of rope for them to piss on. Freetofly, I think you're right. They don't give a rat's hairy posterior about America. Expecting the uber-Leftists, Obama [spit] and his ilk, like that bitch Gorelick who opened the door to let our enemies, then sat on the commission that busted the balls of America's defenders -- expecting these Quislings to defend America is like expecting the Nazis to protect Jews.
I'm an ex-Democrat. Jumped the fence in 2001 -- I was an eyewitness to the World Trade Center massacre, and you don't forget that shit if you have a heart and soul -- and I know how my fellow Dims "think." The True Believers, the ones swooning over the Zero, are profoundly hostile to their own country, and really do see us as the root of all evil. This is what drives their actions and decisions: hatred of America. PERIOD. It's not about "helping the poor" (they push Leftist programs even after it's shown they damage the poor). It's not about boosting women's rights or gay rights (think of the horrifically misogynistic and homophobic beliefs of muslims, their favorite pet "victim" group). It's not about ecology or conservation (think about their utter indifference to Communist and totalitarian dictatorships' rape of the environment, and their constant bitching about our refusal to sign the Kyoto treaty -- even though we've performed better than the signatories). No, people. The driving force behind the Left is their hatred of us, a free people, and their ferocious determination to completely enslave us. The wickedly clever ones will settle for the Hitlerian model of merely gullivering us with myriad petty laws and regulations that deprive us of more and more freedom. Judge Bork says we're only about 50% a republic any more. More and more, we're ruled by a Leftist oligarchy -- the rule of the self-appointed Few. Posted by: Beverly at November 10, 2008 01:19 AM (Kz+2R) 198
As far as why the Left hates us so much and wants to bring us down? I think it's because the example of America disproves every single stinking thing they believe: we show them up for the fools, blackguards, and tyrants they are.
That, they can never forgive. Think about it: without the counter-example of America, the most successful and powerful nation on earth, the Commies would be able to prance and strut and claim that their lust for power is absolutely justified -- to save the poor proles, don'tchya know. H.L. Mencken remarked that behind every utopian scheme to save the world is the naked lust for power. Posted by: Beverly at November 10, 2008 01:24 AM (Kz+2R) 199

Beverly - I agree. This is so difficult, bc I don't want to disrepect the Office he holds, but so much is going on at one time, that makes it looks like we can't afford to give him the benefit of the doubt...I about fell outta my chair when I saw on Cavuto Friday about the possibili of taking over of 401ks and it was like "Oh, yeah, yawn..." such a thing woulda been HUGE news 6 months ago, now its like nothing....it's very surreal and Orrwellian...(spelling?) instead they were more focused on the 6.5% unemployment rate....as the end of the world as we know it. While that's not ideal - its not enough reason for all the draconian measures they are taking (it was 25% in the Great Depression). I think we were all right to trust our 6th sense which was screaming "No bail out" while everyone around us seemed to be saying otherwise - many for well intentioned, but misinformed reasons. Look - they got the $700b - it turned to what- $850b likity-split. Then there was more for AIG, now there's a line starting with the hands out ...and further - what Paulson said he would do - yeah, that isn't what he has been doing so far. And it wouldn't make sense, except, if we are going to somehow "unite, join forces" or whatever they are going to call it, it would be easier to accomplish with us in our newly socialized finacial state than if we were still a free marker like we were just a mere 3 months ago.
