Al Qaeda Leader In Iraq Succumbs to Audacity of Hope, Combined Arms Fire, but Mostly Combined Arms Fire

You can thank Bush and Petraeus for the Iraq turnaround Obama. I don't think you can screw it up.

I might be wrong.

Iraqi troops scored a blow against al Qaeda in Iraq's network during a series of operations in the Tarmiyah region. Iraqi soldiers, backed by the local Sons of Iraq and US troops, killed Abu Ghazwan, a senior al Qaeda in Iraq leader, during a shootout.

Ghazwan was killed after the joint forces were sweeping a region near Tarmiyah that was thought to contain weapons caches and was a location of enemy activity. The Iraqi and US forces were attacked with small arms fire and an land mine as they searched a location. Iraq troops returned fire and later found Ghazwan dead.

Nor with your stupid posturing can you take one dime's worth of credit for the win. Nothing. You inherit it, that's all.

1 Well, I guess it's now a race against time to kill as many targets as possible before inauguration day.  Maybe  they will get BIn Laden (or prove he's long dead)?

On a semi-related note?  What are the odds that Bibi Y won't  become the  new Israeli PM?  I would think Israel wants to move to the right asap.

Also on a semi-related note, I hope, over the last eight years, the Bush Administration has sold and given enough sh*it to the former USSR republics to hold putin at bey for another eight years....

3 Nah, the Ukrainians and Georgians are pretty much fucked. Anything east of Poland had better start digging tunnels.

Fortunately, we can all serve in the Peace Corps for $4000 to help Russia build Gulags, train attack dogs, and run barbed wire around re-education camps. Now that's Community Reinvestment that Barry can believe in.

4 He probably offered himself up to the new Messiah.  Obama is so powerful, his enemies are killing themselves to honor Him.

6 We should have kept our mouth shut about the Obama Youth Corps.

The guy is a fucking Kevlar/Teflon composite. We won't be able to demonstrate anything based on his words. And the deeds we just know he's going to pull are going to completely suck. So... I keep thinking fight the big battles right from the start (Fairness/Guns/Foreign policy/whatever), but some of these other things need to be allowed to make it out of the shadows.

It's one thing to ridicule an insane policy on his website right before the history eraser button hits it.

It's something else to let him get all the way to announcing it as part of the Inaugural Address or something similar.

7 It's definately all-out hunting season on the terrorists.  That license will officially expire Jan 20, 2009.  Everything we have going right now needs to go into overdrive.  Once again the military is going to have to work twice as hard to keep our sorry asses safe.

So in the stats, can he get credited with the save?  What if it's not over when he leaves office?  Does he get no decision?  And are there any AQ base runners left on base that can be charged to Bush if they score?

I don't have much confidence in Obama as closer.  Mid-reliever, maybe, but not a closer.  I'm calling the bullpen.

9 Can't mess it up?

Iran is laughing their arses off.

By the time Bambi is thrown out, they will control Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank maybe even a parts of Israel proper.

We will be redeployed to Germany.

11 Barack Obama has made no commitment that a missile defense shield in eastern Europe will go ahead, an advisor to the president-elect said Saturday, in apparent contradiction of statements by Poland.

Earlier, a statement from Polish President Lech Kaczynski after the two men spoke by telephone said Obama had said he would go ahead with plans to build a missile defense shield in eastern Europe despite threats from Russia.

Let's see how much the Europeans are cheering Neville Obama in a couple of months.

13 Is there anything great that hasn't been said about Patraeus and our troops that I could say? Of course not. If, for some reason Obama tries in any way to take credit for anything in Iraq it may truly put me over the edge. He's a socialist loving prick, but he couldn't be that bad, could he?

And something we owe the troops since we voted this cut and run asshole into office; a prayer everyday that they are allowed to continue the mission.

15 That's the problem with these guys, no stamina.  I remember when an senior Al Queda leader could run for months.  Now, a half dozen gunshot wounds and they just give up.

MOSCOW – The Kremlin said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had agreed with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in a telephone call Saturday that they need to meet soon.

Medvedev congratulated Obama on his election win, and the two agreed on a need to work on Russia-U.S. ties, a Kremlin statement said. Several issues have tested relations between Moscow and Washington, including NATO's possible eastward expansion and U.S. plans for placing components of a missile-defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Not only will Barry give us another New Deal he's going to give Eastern Europe another Yalta.

18 I think we'll hang on to Iraq and Afghanistan, the former because there's no real downside to making sure the victory is total, now that the heaviest fighting is over, and the latter because D'ohbama will want to show he has big clanking balls and is a manly wartime president.

If the casualty rate gets really bad in A'stan, however, he'll bug out immediately. One massive suicide bombing is all it'll take, I'm afraid.

The rest of the world is on its own, except for Israel. Rahm Emanuel is a fanatical Israel supporter, so he'll make the muppet president step up to the plate when necessary.

The funny thing is, nobody in the press is bothering to ask D'ohbama what he thinks about any of this. They're admitting he's just a figurehead, a symbol of our racial generosity. They're waiting for the real decisonmakers to be assembled so they can interview them.

They ask the president elect about his dog but not the missile defense deal with Poland. According to the media, black presidents are there to dance all sexy on Ellen but not opine about foreign policy.

Jesus Mary and Joseph!!! Will you hosenpissers and sitzpinklers calm down for a few moments!!??   Poland's a NATO member now, and the Obumblefuck just can't unilaterally sell a member nation down the river.

Does anyone really think the Joint Chiefs are going to let this miserable weasel get away with shit like that?

Would YOU want to be a member of the Joint Chiefs and be remembered in history as being a fuckin' wimp and traitor to all those East bloc countries???

There's an assumption here at Ace that really troubles me, and that's the idea that the 48% are going to supinely let all this shit happen, AND that everyone in the 52% WANTS it to happen.

Makes no sense.

21 Are you kidding?  More things could go wrong in Iraq than go wrong in Detroit - including the Lions, Kwame Kilpatrick, GM and Chrysler, and "Devil's Night."

First, let's take Kirkuk.  Iraqi Army and Kurdish National Guard (Peshmerga) are having firefights with each other there and in Diyala province.  The Turks are also involved and ready to swoop in.

Second, the Sahawa.  The "Sons of Iraq" are now cut off from US funding and guess what?  The Iraqi government is not paying them like they said they would.  They could turn on the government and the US by association in a heartbeat.

Third, the Iranians still have control of one major governing political party, and heavy influence over several others.  They operate freely in all of the south of Iraq, where there are no US forces and very few other coalition forces.  Several government officials are beholden to the Iranians.

Defeating Al Qaeda in Iraq was only one part of a very complicated problem. If there is a civil war in Iraq, what can the US do?  If the Iraqis elect Shia religious parties who are closer to Iran than the US, what can the US do?  Find another Saddam?

Fucking thank you, icus. In case anyone missed that...

THE WAR IN IRAQ IS NOT WON.

Yes, we are winning. Absofuckinglutely. But it is not, I say again, not over. All of the accomplishments of these last painful years could be undone in two months. And you fuckers think Obama has nothing to gain by this? The One's great prophesy of the futility of the Iraq war proven true? And he wouldn't have to order some crazy 50 day withdrawal as his first act for it to happen. Does the phrase "short term security gains of the surge" sound familiar?

Look, I hate the fact that I sound like a fucking Eeyore here. I don't think defeat is guaranteed anymore than I think victory is assured. I know that the war's successes are one of the few bright spots right now but please, please stop thinking that the fight is over.

29 Obama most assuredly will claim to have won the war in Iraq.  He will also claim it was his ideas that led to the surge success.  This will all be regaled in his very own book, written by William Ayres.
