| Andrew Sullivan: Maybe Lesbians Voted for Palin Because They Liked Her RackI consider this kinda innocuous, if stupid. But isn't this Drama Queen the first to freak out if you suggest that he "wants to have Obama's baby" or has crushes on his current political faves? No link for trashy tabloid The Atlantic.I'm still bemused by the drop in gay support for Obama after Kerry. I'd put it down primarily to the fact that the gay political establishment, with its usual brilliance, fused itself with the Clinton campaign very early on, and there was a real slice of Clintonian anti-Obama hate that wouldn't go away. For much of the campaign, I expressed surprise at how so many gay men and lesbians were indifferent or hostile to Obama. Maybe there was a particular lesbian bond with Clinton, which may have led some lesbians to pick McCain (they're susceptible to a little Alaskan boobage as well). Maybe that goes for some diva-worshipping gay men as well, men who so identified with Hillary that they couldn't reconcile themselves to Obama. So, lesbians vote for whoever has the nicest tits. This is, I remind you, the most important one-man blog on the internet CommentsPosted by: Tom at November 08, 2008 07:58 PM (qddqX) 2

What a pig that man is. An pathetic misogynist. He judges others by what he is capable of. He adores Obama for his brown skin and lezbos (like me) like Palin for her rack. Jesus, that guy loves to hate. No, Mr. Cornholer, we are repulsed by Obama because he is a fraud. He runs from the gays and used a homohater on his campaign trail to rally the black churches and homophobia among black males. He really makes me sick.
P.S. I am a former democrat. I am now disgusted by the democratic party and it's misogyny, bigotry, race baiting, corruption and hypocrisy. Maybe this is wonky of me, but I think the FairTax would help take some of these issues off the table. Social cons (and I say this as a person with some social-con principles) are sometimes trying to use the tax code for social engineering in this area and this causes resentment in the gay community. Get the government out of the marriage thing altogether - gay or straight. Let marriage be a private contractual issue and/or a religious bond rather than a government thing. I currently know one gay guy personally (not THAT personally though). He was so pro-Moses that I swear he wanted 10,000 of his babies. But then, he hated all Republicans and would scapegoat them for literally anything. However, the black folk I know hate gays. And we hear famous blacks publicly bashing gays. I would think a number of gays would have taken note of this. All anecdotal, but it adds up.

The only thing Andrew Sullivan is good for anymore is identifying morons. Hey Y'all - we're trying to get past the sexism and misogyny. My old team wouldn't do it. The gleefully embraced it against Hillary and Sarah.
I'm hoping we can expect more from the R's. When you call Hillary a carpet muncher, you're basically saying that a strong woman is a dyke. That she's not really a woman....she's a man. Please don't be like them. I got into a screaming match here in san francisco with two "progressive" brats wearing the famous "sarah palin is a c*nt" tshirt. I also went around the city with can of spray paint spraying out dozens of the posters of sarah palin as a fanged wolf (done in the Obama stalinist poster style). I was hoping you guys would have your eyelids blown off to the misogyny towards sarah and see how nasty it is towards ANY woman. Posted by: sarah at November 08, 2008 09:02 PM (01ULW) 56

AS, through use of identity politics throughout his writing, shows his own self-hating gay views and opinions. No self-respecting gay or lesbian would attempt to explain voting patterns based upon a beautiful set of mammaries or a Mr. Marcus-sized dong. That line of thought only tends to support and bolster the whack-job argument that homosexuals' lives revolve around untethered sex, pride day parades and really bitchin' house music. However, AS isn't comfortable with his own sexuality and tends to either play it up in one post and then only to denigrate it in another.
AS's irrelevance only appears to be lessen in direct proportion to his degree of cozying up to Obama. If not for this, who in the MSM would pay attention to this guy? By the way, his "book" on Oakenshott if fucking unreadable and a disservice to a great conservative thinker. Posted by: Axiom.Titan at November 08, 2008 09:18 PM (GqbHa) 72

Sarah: I think the gay community should have a permanent home in the Republican Party. I can't see where the State has any business is saying who and who cannot have a relationship/union. A religion, as a private organization, has the right to define marriage as it sees fit. The State, on the other hand, does not.

How's this for all the uneducated about that One gays out there who voted for Oblowme - they sure must have been surprised to find out the Obama campaign sent out robo calls to the AA communities telling them to vote yes, for Prop 8 - effectively killing their marriage rights. Same thing in Fl and in Ar about gay adoption. Some in the gay community already saw what Oblowme did along the way and figured out he was a piece of shit. It's been a topic of conversation all over the blogs one in a long list of why Oblowme is scum. Maybe the author should get his brain out of pants. sarah, a little further,
I don't support gay marriage, at least not the way it's been "introduced," (i.e., via judicial fiats). I take the whole "standing athwart history yelling "stop" part of conservatism seriously and think that, as a society, we should be way more cautious about doing something that pretty much no other society in human history has done (changing the definition of marriage to include same-sex couplings). That said, I love my gay friends, honor their relationships and am glad to support any sort of civil unions that protect their rights. Posted by: Kensington at November 08, 2008 09:47 PM (xFNQx) 86

I certainly didn't, and I was looking for it. We saw legs. And shoes. Lots and lots and lots of legs and shoes and I'll be in my bunk.

It seems like both parties are casting anchor on a lot of their constituency - the difference I see is that the Repubs are willing to hand current party leadership its hat and move on to better things. Dems.... not so much I think. So welcome to AoS - you're a lot more welcome than you'd think. Just don't mind the gratuitous stupidity. You only need to read about what happened to gay people in the workers paradise of the soviet union to realize what can happen when socialism takes over.
I agree with Dirk on the opinion that most gays should probably vote for repubs. But hardcore social cons have made them shy away from the repub side. Thanks for the welcome. I'm definitely a leper now among my friends....they just look at me and blink or sputter something stupid like, "McCain called his wife a c*nt". Honestly.
Regarding the gay marriage thing - for those of us that are a little older and a little less angry, we don't want the symbol of marriage. We want the same rights. That's all. As a matter of fact, some friends of ours (I'm in a 20 year relationships...for lesbians, that equals about 4 years) asked us to go to city hall to witness one another's weddings. Our response was that we've forged our own way without that symbol of union and set of relationship customs guiding us through thick and thin. We didn't need or want it at this point. My partner has a libertarian streak and I've picked up some of it as well. Cheers y'all and thanks again. Posted by: sarah at November 08, 2008 10:41 PM (01ULW) 103

to me marriage is the union of one man and one woman, having said that, lack of law on this issue is creating unfairness to gay ppl by not allowing them inheritance rights, hospital visitation rights, and probably other stuff i haven't thought of yet, i contend that civil unions would be a fair compromise.

You cannot have laws aganst killing people and not prosecute the killing of blacks. You can have laws which treat people differently. For instance, the tax laws. Feel free to take the IRA to court and argue that taxing you (100k/yr and single) and not taxing Joe Smith (three kids, 50k/yr) violates the 14th Amendment. You can have marriage laws, obviously. OK. Long time lurker and also long time lesbian. I'm a registered Dem but feel my party has abandoned me. I can't stand Pelosi and Barney Frank. I voted McCain. His choice of Palin sealed the deal for me. But in reality, I really could not vote for Obama because he an empty suit. I can't believe that no one see's that. What many of us in Southern Cal are also realizing this weekend is that the black vote, driven to the polls by Obama, turned the tide for Prop 8. In other words, Obama screwed the gay community big time. Two weeks ago, I was in an office conversation with a black woman (IT manager) and a white gay man (office manager). The black woman is a very leftist type of Democrat, an admirer of Castro, hater of George Bush type. I'm sure you get the picture. We were discussing Obama and the election. The man asked her what her position is on Prop 8. She said I don't care about Prop 8 and probably will vote for it. She rationalized this by saying that gays should not be getting married. Period. So much for the liberal. all-inclusive tent. Since that time, I've heard the same position echoed at least 4 times by other people. You know the gays blindly followed the Clintons around, even after Don't Ask, Don't Tell and DOMA. I hope that gays come to their senses and realize how much Obama screwed them over and DOES NOT have their backs. Sorry for the rant. I like vodka too. Carpet muncher is a term used by lesbians that I know too.

I voted for Prop 8, primarily to teach at least one California judge (and possibly several) a lesson in civics. Specifically, I have a problem with the judiciary (where I have zero say) inventing rights as they please; it’s a bad precedent. I have a problem with them then using these new rights to justify decisions that they then use to afflict the population. They make litigation easy and convictions difficult. And if judges can invent rights, what’s to stop them from simply abolishing rights, and then from doing it when it suits them? I have a better idea: let’s jeep the judiciary out of lawmaking, and restricted to JUDGING. Posted by: Arbalest at November 09, 2008 12:07 AM (SeimD) 117

Back to A. Possibly Andy wants to prep (i.e., distract) us from one of several probably-disastrous Obama policy blunders: Iran’s not happy with Obama, Russia’s making moves, the Hamas angle is politically problematic. Then there are many unanswered campaign questions, starting with what’s on the LATimes tape? But Andy's candidate got elected, and now has to preform. At some point, reports have to be written because papers and magazines have to be printed to sell the ads that make the revenue that pays the bills. This is another reason Republicans need to be all about cutting back the size of the Federal government with a fucking chainsaw and leaving this social engineering crap to the states. If we can get the Feds out of the business of dictating the same law to all 50 states, maybe we can push all this gay marriage/covenant marriage/civil union business down to the states where it ought to be settled anyway. Posted by: Patti at November 08, 2008 11:50 PM (2wEWc) Hi, Patti; thanks for giving us a chance. I'm so heartened to see the seedy underbelly of Obama and his followers being recognized by someone who the Left would normally expect to be unquestioningly in their camp. The anti-gay bigotry of many black people has long repulsed me. I've heard "fag" used derisively by an Obamabot acquaintance more in the last three years than in my entire life beforehand. Posted by: Kensington at November 09, 2008 02:08 AM (xFNQx) 122
Jesus, that guy loves to hate. No, Mr. Cornholer, we are repulsed by
Obama because he is a fraud. He runs from the gays and used a homohater
on his campaign trail to rally the black churches and homophobia among
black males. He really makes me sick.
Yes, I was really shocked that the Rev. Wright tapes didn't have any homo hate on them. Echoing others here, anyone who spends any length of time in mixed company, as it were, knows that most black people HATE gays something fierce. Of course if the Rev. had said anything in that vein it's not like McCain would've used it. Jackass. And sarah, welcome to the party. I for one did see the sexism that was rampant in this campaign. The Hillary's Pantsuits and Palin's Wardrobe stories seemed like flip sides of the same piggish coin to me. Posted by: nightwitch at November 09, 2008 02:27 AM (vQPBu) 123
maybe it had something to do with Obama going on tour with a virulently anti-gay preacher.
unlike andrew sullivan, maybe the rest of the gays got the anti-gay vibe from Obama and his followers, and rightly so - 70% of blacks in California voted for gays to be 2nd class citizens. Posted by: obamaNahNahNah at November 09, 2008 04:30 AM (aocpG) 124
However, the black folk I know hate gays. And we hear famous blacks
publicly bashing gays. I would think a number of gays would have taken
note of this. All anecdotal, but it adds up.
One of news organizations claimed that in California Whites were about split evenly on Prop 8 but blacks were for it 70%. The irony is that since there was a huge black turnout for Obama, it got defeated. If it would have been Hillary, it probably would have passed. Regarding the gay marriage thing - for those of us that are a little older and a little less angry, we don't want the symbol of marriage. We want the same rights. That's all. Wouldn't civil unions accomplish that? Or is there something different in the law specifically with marriage? This whole political push is a real turn off to me and personally, I could care less about gay marriage. I don't believe homosexuals are 'sinful', but that it's a biological thing. But since there are people that believe the 'sin' thing, why is there such a push with the marriage issue? The radical liberals and liberal judges are on a jihad to push the issue, and are only creating resentment and turning people against the issue. As for gay marriage, I'[m fairly libertarian but socially conservative. The gay marriage isn't about having equal right to the institution. The institution is the union of a single woman and a single man. And as any married person knows, sexual fulfillment is not required. Nice, but not a part of the definition.
The marriage controversy is about the right to redefine the institution to cover something that someone, in this instance gays but others will follow, would prefer to see covered. There is no individual right whatsoever to do this. And it is certainly not something that judges should be inventing to jam down the throats of "less enlightened" citizens of a free republic. I suspect the push for gay marriage has more to do with forcing a more general acceptance of the gay lifestyle on the public. If so, it's misguided to look for top down social engineering to rework the public into a more pleasing shape. First gain the acceptance the real way: with openness about your identity while engaging in respectable lives that others can even admire. (Knocking off those ridiculous parades and exhibitions would be nice too.) Acceptance follows. It isn't easy but it isn't complicated either. Posted by: VRWC Agent at November 09, 2008 10:20 AM (o2slJ) 128
But since there are people that believe the 'sin' thing, why is there
such a push with the marriage issue? The radical liberals and liberal
judges are on a jihad to push the issue, and are only creating
resentment and turning people against the issue.
Because, I believe that the ultimate goal of these activists is to use same sex marriage laws as a bludgeon to compel churches to perform SS marriages. That's the only thing that really concerns me about SS marriage. I'm not religious, but the way the leftists attack religion makes me sick. I've long believed that government should just get out of the marriage business entirely. Domestic partnerships for all, strictly as a legal contract for cohabitation, division of assets, tax purposes, "next of kin" issues etc. Issues of love or procreation are none of the government's damned business. Someone once told me that lesbian pornography (visual, not written) is different than pornography produced by males. While it's very generous of you to offer to let me boost your sinking circulation stats so you can attempt to maintain your advertising rates, I must respectfully decline. While I once respected your magazine, The Atlantic's credibility has taken a tremendous hit over the last two years as it descended from a thoughtful and fair publication to a left-leaning propaganda rag. The magazine's continued employment of the deranged lunatic and internet gossip-monger Andrew Sullivan to speculate on Internet rumors about the parenthood of Trig Palin is just one example of how low the Atlantic has sunk. Get the magazine back to where it was even four years ago and I might consider re-subscribing.
