The Rumors Are True, Gun Sales Through The Roof [Vinnie]

Yup, big shocka there.

It certainly backs up the message I got from co-blogger Blackflag:

That being said, almost every online dealer of AR/AK mags and ammo is sold out, mad rush going on in the firearms industry in preparation for AWB2.

AWB2 being Assault Weapons Ban 2, if you're a Concern Troll, unable to grasp the fine points that we can actually see through Obama's bullshit that:

During an October appearance in Ohio, Obama sought to reassure gun owners. "I will not take your shotgun away," he said. "I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away."

Because what he really means is:

They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

These so-called "assault weapons" are semi-automatic rifles, no different than the semi-automatic 30.06 my father in law hunts with (I have a bolt action .300 WinMag). So he's lying yet again. He does want to take your rifle away.

My fellow morons, you have less than three months to stock up. I know I am.

Major update: After reading the updates at S&L, I took a screen shot of the quote noted above from changedotgov.

View image

Minor update: My bolt action .300 WinMag is just my hunting rifle. I have other weapons at my disposal. But...as a commenter noted, opsec and all that. :-)

1 I would... but I've got so many now.

What I do need is ammo. Need to get to a gun show post-haste.

Actually, need to buy a good reloader.

Any suggestions on a reasonably priced setup? I primarily need something that can handle .308, .223, .40 & .45.

Buy as much guns and ammo as you can afford.  Ditto for reloading components for those who reload.  If the lefties have their way, there won't be a domestic gun industry at all.

Dont forget to stockpile spare parts because they'll will be scarce.  They don't really cost much but they'll keep that assault weapon perking.  Don't forget high capacity magazines too because they are sure to be on The One's hit list.

6 7.62X39 ammo has been a rape job for the past 4 years, thanks to the Soviets restricting supply to well paying Arabs.  I sucked up and stocked up a while back.  But even shotgun shells and pistol ammo has shot up in the last year.  If this keeps up, I'll only have enough ammo for my grandkids.

Any reloader will handle multiple calibers. The die is simply changed out for each different caliber. I used to prefer the RCBS turrent press but the non turrent presses are cheaper.

Krakatoa

For a low cost simple foolproof reloading setup try the RCBS rock chucker reloading press.   It's a single stage press so it's not as fast as those mult-station machines but it is solid, reliable and last forever.

Just buy RCBS dies and shell holders for each caliber you intend to reload.  The Rock Chucker can reload most rifle and pistol cartridges.

Buy a reloading manual then stock up on reloading components, bullets, powder, brass and primers.

Good luck.

21 Well here in NY basically any gun requires a waiting period, I was planning on getting my CCW permit when I turn 21 in March, but it might already be too late. I really hope that Obama just encourages stuff like BS gun buybacks and says that it should be a state level issue.

But I doubt that. Long live the 2nd amendment.

Obama's policies just encourage illegal guns... (not that there should ever be such a thing as an illegal firearm)

Posted by: BrackaBama at November 07, 2008 08:49 PM (GEVSM)

22 They'll not take them away.  That would require effort.  What they will do is make it where we can't purchase shells, parts, and new rifles.  Shotguns may sneak through for a while but they will eventually follow when the "O" corps shows success in the handgun/rifle category.
Maybe we can cobble together enough flint lock smooth bores in Lexington when they come for us.  But finding somebody with a horse and the required parade permit (not to mention burn permits for the lanterns) may be a stretch.

26 I thought the whole idea was that we, as citizens, possess the power to resist our government...by force if necessary.  I agree that machine guns don't make sense in New York, NY, but any movement on this front is a slippery slope I think.  Better to allow it and regulate its use (duh) than to ID certain items that are just too risky for dumb civilians.  On that last part - when the revolution comes I'll snag a Mk-19 from the armory and wash my Mazda in the blood of my enemies.  Full auto grenade launcher = zoom zoom.

I understand the reason why they say semi-auto rifles are dangerous, but it doesn't change that making the people weaker to resist the government by force opens up a can of worms.  If we let this happen there will come a time when we are powerless to resist our government.  Well...powerless if you don't count the pipebombs and such that would surely come from such a time...but still pretty powerless.  Have any of these people ever actually fired a weapon?  It is like saying butt sex is awful when you've never even given it a chance...snobs.

Guns? Oh, they'll be permitted. It's those "people-killers" that will be banned.

Shoot the weapon? Sure, as long as it is a static target on range. In defense of your household? Verboten.

Dude, I told you two weeks ago that when I went in to buy my new Springfield XD 40, that it was 1415 in the afternoon, after lunch, but not the end of the workday, and the shop was jam packed.

Even after I had selected the gun, passed the background check, and had ammo in hand, it still took almost 15 minutes for a register to clear so they could ring me up. I asked the sales guy if they're always so busy and he said "Yeah. Lately we are. Everyone is worried about the election."

Just now, coming back into the office for a few hours, I rode up on the elevator with a co-worker who asked if I have protection when I leave so late at night. Then, he told me that he's going out this weekend to buy two more guns. "The election" he said.

30 People laugh at it, but I'm very fond of the diminutive Walther .32 PP as a carry gun.  I can draw and put three in a pie plate sized target at 25' in about 2.5sec with that little peashooter.  I figure three .32's in the chest will catch most people's attention.

The pre-WWII Walthers were works of art, the wartime ones not so much.  The 3rd party manufactured wartime ones ranged from OK workmanship (Mauser) to crude (Spreeworks).  Post-war French made Manhurin's are OK.

For a cheap pistol that goes bang reliably, the Russian Makarov isn't too bad.  Trigger pull is harsh and stiff, but they work and are cheap.  Mine was about $150 new some years ago.

You sure as hell don't start with a pistol.  It's basically worthless for food procurement.  Get a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge shotgun.  Good hunting weapon, blows the shit out of bad guys at short range (Actually greater range than a pistol), easy to use, and comes in designer colors.  Handguns are the LAST weapon you buy when filling you arsenal, not the first.

Below is a personal email between myself and my brother. This is personal, but it might be relvant to the Fricking Socialist that was just elected and a creeping ban on guns.

The email may be confusing at first, becasue it copied from and ongoing electronic conversation.

And the Brown shirts might be knocking soon....

Begin..........

"Wow, very interesting, I can see you pretty driven by this subject.
My response:

First I recognized the propaganda, although I did not know the origin.
However I forwarded it almost 100% percent because of this line:

7. "The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady
commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your
pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting
trouble, I would have brought my rifle."'

Thought that was great!

I also replied to the originator of the email: "Bullsh*t, most
Australians kept their guns for home defense". (my opinion)

No, I'm not a member of the NRA, never really gave the organization much
thought and the only gun I had for 20 years was a single shot 4/10 Rob
gave me. I inherited a few others from Bunny's dad but have never looked
at them since bringing them to the house. We live in a semi rural area
and have a 170 pound wolfhound. So I sleep sound every night.(because of
the dog) And always considered the 4/10 more than adequate for any
thing.
I don't hunt, at least until I can hit something with my re curve and
that might take years more practice. Ha.

I agree and disagree with you. Those officers should be given a raise.
One for the crappy pay they get and two perhaps combat pay. And those
Animals committing the crimes, well bring back the frying chair. We put
down savage pit bulls or rogue bears with out blinking an eye. Animals
are animals. Fk them.

However on the subject of gun control, I probably sit, far, far to the
right of the NRA.
Guns are only tools or toys and I see no reason to or constitutional
right to restrict them. Hey, but Bunny tells me I'm f8cked up all the
time.

Down here in Florida, the state gives out concealed carry permits, like
chicklets and has extended the law, that you can shoot people in defense
of your property, outside of your house. (used to be you had to be in
your house to shoot) And guess what, this is only a surprise to liberal
pussies, the crime rate has plummeted. And shooting by honest citizens
has not jumped dramatically. This in a state flooded by immigrants with unvetted history, and Florida has it's share of goofball rednecks.

Also my philosophy, comes not from the worry of the rednecks, drunk or
sober, or the immigrants with possible criminal intent, but from the
Government that might wish to come in and take your M1, because it's a
bad weapon and only evil people would own that. Or for example the D.C.
gun ban in a city with the worst crime in the nation. WTF?

Recently I read the history of gun bans in Great Britain, the creeping
manner in which they did it and the 2000% rise in strong armed robbery
AFTER the ban went into effect in 1964. Pretty troubling scenario, and
the story might have been b.s. or propagandized. But still troubling.

The pattern begins with minute restrictions that no one minds and then
creeps up. This also happens to be the argument that prevents the state
of Florida from implementing an income tax upon it's citizens.

Sounds like your not that far from Rob's viewpoint, only sober.
You wrote:
"Sadly this is the world we live in and until it changes, I keep a M1
carbine and a 410 single shot by my bed.  My hope is that if I ever have
a need for the use of one, the shotgun will be enough to scare them
away, if I have to shoot, the 410 will not penetrate the walls and hit
my kids, the carbine is to finish the job cause I refuse to be sued by a
wounded scumbag. I would attend his funeral".

I think you know the world will not change. It is as it is and as it
always been".

46 Besides a good sturdy pump 12 ga. (did I meniton the always reliable 870 Wingmaster yet?( and I'm not a salesman)), every American should be issued a .22 rifle at birth.  Greatest food producer on earth.  Cheap guns, cheap ammo, and you can stack up more meat in an average afternoon than you can in 2 weeks on a deer stand.  Squirrels, rabbits, pheasants that sit still, the neighbor's cat, hobos urban outdoorsmen, all are susceptible to the charms of the .22 Long Rifle.

A week before the election, I bought a 9mm rifle for $155. On Sunday the exact same rifle was $255. Today, I went to buy ammo for said rifle and the clerk said that when the store opened at 10am, there were FIFTY (50) people waiting outside the door to by the 9mm ammo and they purchased almost all of the ammo in stock. I got there at 11:30 am and bought one of the last 4 cases. I was also told that ALL of the 9mm rifles for sale were now gone. The fear is palpable.

God Bless America because we sure need it.

The day the shooting happened I ran to the store because I just knew shit was gonna get ugly. I threw a deposit down on a gun, and came back 2 days later to get it and the frigging place was cleaned out of every assualt weapon they had, I mean bare, and it was a huge store with all the cool civilian versions of stuff. I'm talking H&K, FN, AR15's out the ass, AK's , UZI, you name it they had it. They had shitloads.

Gone....I mean fucking wiped out, picked clean. I walked in there and it looked like the dudes working their were gang raped, and the racks were empty.  They looked like zombies, leaning on the counters with their heads in the hands and just staring off in space. I said man wtf happened here? The guy says, and I'll never forget it, he says " There were lines out the door all day. I even had an old granny come in and say give me 2 of whatever you got left, they bought everything...everything....""

All the elmer fudd guns were left, but that was it. I can't imagine what the scramble now must be like.

68 yeah, time to buy that .40 carry pistol I have been lusting after. And maybe that Remington Bushmaster I have been thinking about for awhile.

Better that I go down to Cabela's and pick up some more reloading gear. At the very least, I can resell ammo to guys not wanting to pay the 500% ammo tax I see in our future.

69 I can't find 30 round AR15 PMAGS for shit anywhere.  I backordered a bunch from someone reliable and I'm just going to leave them in the plastic when I get them.  I've got about 10,000 rounds of ammo in various calibers (which isn't that unusual when you shoot a lot of different guns), but I've noticed I've gotten more hesitant to practice with my rifles since I worry about losing access to 5.56 and 7.62x39 first.

On a whim I looked at buying a Saiga-12 today since I figured they were dead at the first hint of a new AWB, and I'll be damned if a decent conversion isn't about $2K now.

Good luck getting a stripped AR lower for under $200 if you can even find one.  I bought a few when I started to see the writing on the wall this spring and they reside in bubble wrap hidden in a safe.  I should probably grab a few parts kits but I'm kinda afraid to see what they're going for.

If you want a decent shotgun for home defense that's cheap, its tough to go wrong with a Mossberg 500.  I got one for $229 at Big 5 just a month ago.  There's tons of after market parts for them too.

74 Obama will probably require some sort of license to buy ammo (and fixings for ammos) and limit sales to a dozen or two per year per license.  He won't take anyone's gun away, he'll just make it hard to use for anything but a paper weight.

Which is another way of saying, the black market in bullets could be lucrative in a couple months.  Maybe not enough to restore your 401k, until Obamanomics takes that away too.

My questions to all the morons are 1. How far is too far with regard to what Constitutional rights we will tolerate being infringed and 2. What are we going to do about it?

We all know that the Second Amendment exists so that we, the people, are the last check in the check and balances. WE are the militia they talk about. That being said, how would the militia organize? Certainly a spontaneous uprising looks great in movies. But really, if the federal government decides to ban assault rifles, the equivilant of the musket of 1776 and thus the weapon of the militia, what do we do? How do we do it?

Posted by: Alisa at November 07, 2008 10:54 PM (5VRhq)

78 Anyone who's looking for an inexpensive reloading kit, check out the Lee Anniversary kits. Not up to RCBS quality, but half the price. Wouldn't use it for super-precision benchrest ammo, but it's good enough to do general plinking ammo and SHTF ammo. Before the election, I was thinking of getting a Rock Chucker to replace my Lee, but I'm going with mags, ammo, another pistol, and spare parts before Jan.

Start looking at AK kits and 80% AR-15 receivers as well. You can legally build them off the books in most jurisdictions, as long as you mark them correctly (serial #, your maker's mark and location), but you can never sell them or transfer to another party legally, strictly for your own use only. Lots of info on DIY gunsmithing online.

Ok, for the several people that have asked for advice.

Pistols ... good.  Rifles and shotguns better.  Under 25 yards, up to about 40 shotgun is primo.  Beyond 40 yards a rifle is better.

Really neat, butt ugly rifle is Hi-Point 9mm or 40 caliber.  9mm ammo is cheap compared to everything else, and you can use it in the most common hand gun in the world for military and police use.  The Hi point is ugly, but it is a tack driver at 50 to 100 yards, and being a rifle, the 9mm round has more velocity than out of a pistol (longer barrel lets the powder do all of it's job instead of burning after it leaves the short barrel of a pistol) www.hi-pointfirearms.com  And it's cheap as heck.  Around $250 with neato options.

For an inexpensive shotgun that is badass looking, I like the Mossberg.  For the $300 range, you can get it with a 4 position stock, and it even shoots skeet pretty good.  Have not tried it with slugs, but that's supposed to be a great installer of holes in solid objects.

For good pistols, I recommend the XD45 by springfield for a less expensive gun.  I love my Kimber 1911's that shoot ACP45, but at roughly a thousand, they are pricier than the XC at about 5 to 6 hundred.  And the XD has 12 or 13 in the clip instead of 7 or 8 for the 1911's.

And for just carry around all day, I like the North american arms small revolvers.  Less than a pound, and less than the size of your hand, you can have 5 shots of 22mag, which is the same bullet weight as 22lr, but almost twice the velocity.  Probably won't stop the guy on pcp, but no one wants to get shot with one either.  Black widow is neat and has a grip on it that is minimal but adequate.  Most of their other models have a grip too small for me to grab and hold properly.

And then if it's ever needed, I really like my M1Carbine, AR15, and my 308 light tactical rifle with the great scope.

Buy more ammo and clips.  That is the first thing that they will try and limit and or grab.

Oh, and by the way.  If they come for my guns, it's too late.  I sold them all to a homeless guy last week down at the corner.  No law against that, and no, I didn't get his name or a receipt.

83 Arming up and stockpiling ammo isn't enough - you need to start organizing locally. Know who your friends are in your neighborhood (note the McCain/Palin signs and take a plate of rum balls over and introduce yourself). One of the rules of gunfighting is bring lots of friends with guns. Go to or organize local shooting events (trap, skeet, appleseed, etc.). If you don't have a gun and don't read this thread and go buy something randomly. Go to a range and fire a selection, talk to a professional, and get the right gun. Get trained and be safe. The purchasing order is shotgun (~ $300), then rifle (~ $350), then semi-automatic rifle (~ $800-$2000), then handgun (~ $450). If you don't have the commitment to fire the handgun monthly, then skip it. Do consider the cost and availability of ammunition, if ammunition taxes are levied I expect there to be a shake out in the production of the less common calibers.

You refuse.  When comprehensive immigration reform was being shoved down our throats America collectively gagged and our intellectual betters were forced to change the agenda.  With any luck, that open defiance will be enough.  Personally, I'm a damn patriot and taking my ability to defend myself away is tantamount to robbing me of my liberty.  That is unacceptable and if we can articulate that and make that connection clear I think no majority in DC would have the weight to take the guns away from us.  It isn't about "reasonable measures enforced locally" it is about the slippery slope of regulating the law-abiding citizen into a state of defenselessness against the criminal (and of course the state.)  We need to get off our soapboxes as conservatives and explain this shit to people though.  We get it - most people don't.  I think we take it for granted sometimes that some people don't naturally arrive at our conclusions.

We are the voice - talk to the people you know and be the face of conservatism.  I really don't think the government has a chance of taking away that right if we can explain to people why it matters so much.

I never told the salesman exactly why I was buying (if Bambi won, no more guns, if McCain won, get the hell off my lawn and drop my damn tv), but they figured it out and joked with me about it. Virginia has a nice instant check, I was walking out with my new Taurus PT111 an hour later. Ammo display looked a little thin.
Funny thing about all of this was that I was talking to my sister this morning and told her about my purchase. I of course told her not to tell the Mrs (Mrs is very conservative, but has told me we don't need a gun the house, I have chosen to disagree in silence) that I made the purchase. After she stopped laughing, she told me SHE had armed up a couple of months ago and invited me to lunch at the range. This is my sister that I thought was a little squishy on conservatism. When I asked her why, she said it was her constitutional right. I tear up just thinking about that.

121 If you want to do something then join the NRA. Remember, the NRA pursued the Washington DC ban that resulted in the Heller decision that established the 2nd Amend. as an individual right. Could you image where we would be WITHOUT Heller now?

If you live in a state that allows concealed carry, apply for it even if you never plan on carrying. If you live in Illinois or other states that require it, apply for a Firearm Owners Identification Card FOID.

The more people that start exercising their 2nd amendment rights, the more the politicians will notice. OF COURSE Obama and Emanuel want to restrict all they can, BUT, if they can see it will be resisted VERY strongly, they will think twice about approaching it.

I got my FOID over the summer, have taken a couple of women-only shooting classes, and when my son the former Marine comes to visit later this month I'm taking him with me to a gun shop in Lincolnwood to help me pick something out.

During the women's classes the shotgun we used was a Remington 1100 (youth model), 20 gauge, but my son says 12 gauge is better.

Those of you who are familiar with guns, please go easy on the rest of us.  Lots of us grew up urban/suburban and never knew anyone who hunted or did target shooting.  We weren't anti-gun, just non-gun -- there's a difference.  But we have to make up for a lot of lost time in a hurry.

132 FYI Mossberg also makes an 8-shot 500 Cruiser, 20" w/ pistol grip. Lighter on the wallet than the 590. A Knoxx Breacher's Grip makes it nice on the wrists.

134 I didn't read all of the comments, but in case no one said this, 'assault rifles' are NOT the same as your Dad's 30.06.  While I don't agree with the ban and will fight it in whatever way I can, 'assault rifles' would be almost useless in a hunter's hands.  The barrel's too damned short.

On the other hand, you can splat a silver dollar from 500 feet with a 30.06 if you have a mind to do so.

Kevin, I agree with what you're saying about most assault rifles being almost useless for hunting, but that was never the purpose of the Second Amendment. Be careful when people say to you that you don't "NEED" a fill-in-the-blank-weapon. The intent of the Second Amendment is to make it so the people can rise up and overthrow the government. This is our right as citizens if our leaders violate our rights, given to us by G-d or whatever you call your creator.

136 Nah, you got more time than three months, it will take congress at least another month to pass legislation effectively making it impossible to buy the guns you want, and probably a year before gun businesses leave the country and you can only get guns from special dealers in Antarctica.

137 I did my patriotic duty and went out to my range this morning and practiced with the Colt Trooper. I got about 15 boxes left of somebody's hot loaded 38Spc that is great for practice.

138 "Nothing concentrates the mind so wonderfully at the prospect of being hung in the morning" - Ben Franklin

Nothing reinforces the need for marksmanship skills like a thorough understanding of the bayonet.

Can't remember who said that or where I heard it...

AMD65 kits are basically just AKs with fairly short barrels and a sidefolding stock. Probably not recommended, since the barrel is short enough to be an SBR (short-barreled rifle) under Federal law. You can still build it in some states, but only if you register it properly. The other thing with the AMD kits is that ATF mandated that the barrel be cut during the demill process before importation. Barrels cannot be imported anymore. Hard to find with a complete barrel, unless it was imported before the barrel ban. Barrels can be manufactured in the US or a raw pre-ban import barrel can be used, but it radically complicates the build process.

If you need training(and most of you do, admit it) check out the Appleseed Project and become an American rifleman.

I don't know why anyone would think an assault rifle wouldn't be an acceptable hunting rifle. I use mine for hunting all the time. Remember, if it will kill a man it will kill a deer.

I have trained people in the use of firearms for more than twenty years and I can't stress enough how important training is for the first time gunowner.

You should own a good rifle in the current military caliber, 5.56mm/.223 caliber. You can purchase a bolt action rifle in that caliber if you can't find a semi-auto. I also recommend having a rifle in 7.62mm/.308win caliber either bolt action or semi-auto because this caliber is also used by the military. In times of trouble these will be easier to obtain than many others.

You should own at least two handguns, a .22 for low cost training and an effective centerfire caliber for self defense. I prefer the .45auto and I have trained 12 year old girls to use it effectively, so don't let anyone tell you it is hard to shoot. A .357 revolver is another good choice and it can also fire .38 special too. A .40 caliber is another good choice in a semi-auto pistol. If you're a beginner I would recommend that you stay away from the large magnums and small short barreled pistols and revolvers. The magnums are experts weapons and are better suited to hunting. Short barrel weapons are also experts weapons and are difficult for beginners to shoot well. Stick with barrel lengths of 4 inches and leave the snubnose belly guns to those who have been shooting for years.

A good quaility 12 gauge shotgun is a must for both hunting and close range defense. I also recommend the Knoxx compstocks for your shotgun. They are very good at taming the shotgun's heavy recoil; my sister-in-law can shoot my Remmington 870 riotgun equipped with the Knoxx Spec-op stock and loaded with 3 inch magnum buckshot without any discomfort at all. Knoxx stocks are worth every penny; get one.

Finally a good .22 rimfire rifle "fer squirrels an' such" and cheap practice.

I posted this elsewhere on this site today, but you folks who are so concerned here have every right to be.  I don't see this as paranoia, but rational thinking.

The above link is to Ali Sina's article on pathologic narcissism and leaders of nations who had (and have) it.  It is mental derangement and it fits our Messiah to a "T".  It explains all O's behavior. Ali Sina is an ex-muslim and Iranian, very familiar w/ Khomeni.

Regardless of what you may think of Sina, this is a very cogent discussion of how this mental sickness operates in political leaders.

It is chilling.  Going for ammo now...

assault rifle : M-4 in any SOP-MOD config or just plain simple- yeah, thats it..you guessed..with HUGE AMOUNT OF ROUNDS

He figures the 150 rounds he already has will last a little over 2 seconds. He could also use a good reloader and would like to know where he could find some spent plutonium bullets.
