Fox News Censoring Itself to Stave Off Obama's Thuggish Clampdown on Dissent?

Not sure about this...

According to columnists Rush & Malloy of the New York Daily News, Fox has issued a chilling edict to its hosts that they must cease criticism of Obama for the near future:


Fox News boss Roger Ailes doesn't want to spoil Barack Obama's political honeymoon, we hear. A source says Ailes has told prime-time hosts Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren to lay off the President-elect - at least for a while. "We're not going to have any personal attacks on Obama," a network insider says. "The public has spoken - we must treat him with respect."

One caveat: Ailes issues missives every day about how stories should be covered. The left calls this "the party line." I call it "letting all the liberals on the staff know what 'fair and balanced' means, as they are apparently incapable of figuring out for themselves (see CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, AP, Reuters, etc.)."

This could just be Ailes letting people know it's time for the traditional honeymoon period. And, as I said myself, the shelf-life of the Ayers/Wright stuff is just about passed, anyhow. (Mostly.)

We'll see if Fox really does continue with this.

Incidentally... If Murdoch thinks he can really play nice-nice with Obama and not be harassed -- he's dreaming. Leftists have been dreaming of a Unitary Executive-Media Branch since, well, forever.

Plus there's no reason to watch Fox except for the fair and balanced pledge.

3 I don't think that O'Reilly would change his stories based on what Ailes says.  O'Reilly is on a permanent power trip and likes to prove that he is not a minion of Ailes. 
And even still, Ailes didn't say "no attacks" on Obama at all.  He said no "personal attacks".  There really is a big difference.

Hard to say- Murdoch and Ailes must know that the reason Fox is popular is because they try to give conservatives a fair shake while not kowtowing to the liberals. 

Although, hey, maybe I'm wrong, and Fox News's success has more to do with hot reporters, sensationalism and/or hypnotic powers of O'Reilly and Hannity.

 They have been worse than the usual suspects for one simple reason....they led people to believe that they would be getting the straight story from them for so long, that many still trusted them even when it was obvious that they couldn't be trusted.
 When you hire a tool like Alexis "blew her way to the top" Glick as your VP of business news...it's more than a sign kids...it's a billboard telling you to stop listening to anything they say.
 I just watched Shep Smith [liberal tool] make light of obama mocking Nancy Reagan in his "speech on the economy".
 He talked about the dog they may get too...
 Never said anything about the economy......wasn't enough time after all those uh uh uh's....

But as soon as he does something newsworthy -- such as making an appointment akin to what John Tower was selected for, or proposing mandatory community service -- then it gets treated like news. It makes nice contrast.

69 I think an Obama Administration will be far worse than most imagine, especially regarding the stifling of dissent and obfuscation of the truth. Here's the thing: the Left is largely composed of authoritarian types nowadays, and they cannot abide public criticism, open debate, and a genuinely free and independent press. Here's another thing: Obama's economic and foreign policy decisions will be absolutely disastrous: Depression-era conditions in coal country,  unemployment lines stretching around the block, savings wiped out, energy prices skyrocketing--and that's in his first year. Since the reality will be so unflattering, putting it mildly, the Democrats will attempt to mold and move public perceptions--and even with the active assistance of an adoring mainstream press, nearly impossible when there are dissenting voices out there telling people what is really going on. Thus, suppression of dissent will be in direct proportion to economic conditions. Since economic conditions will be terrible, so will the be the oppression of opposing voices and viewpoints.

1. The "failure" you quoted in Iraq is factually wrong. Granted it took longer than expected, and more money than it was worth, the fact remains that the Iraqis now patrol and police 2/3 of their own turf. The Gubmint over there has said it wants us out as a major player by 2011. Not a done deal but certainly stable and well on its way to being a solid success. You're wrong on this one.

This in no way excuses Bush's over weaning ignorance in starting a ground-war in Asia that we could have hired Iraqis to fight. One well known general said we should have bought ourselves a thug like Saddam who would play ball with us and let them fight it out until our guy won. He loses, get another. These things have been done before and avoided bloodshed of ours for someone else's national problems. If he had done it that way, like using the Northern Alliance to start our work in Afghanistan, we'd be celebrating Bush not calling him an idiot or something.

2. There are certainly dogmatic differences in the terms socialism, marxism, communism, trotskyism, leninism...ad nauseum. But the fact remains that the Russians used the terms marxist, communist,socialist interchangably as does the People's Democratic Worker's Paradise of China, and the Glorious Worker's Resort of North Korea.
Do the people pwn anything in China? NK? Russia?
Not at all. So, your little snark about owning the means of production only applies to the classroom and the textbook. The real world makes no such distinction and the authoritarian regimes world over take the means of production in the name of the workers and proceed to beat them to death with those means and to say otherwise is frankly, bullshit.

3. Obama has a litany of things to do and none of them is free market. That was what Bush leaves as his biggest shitstain on this nation: his willingness along with his dithering toadies like Paulson and Bernanke to expand socialized monetary policy while saying it's necessary. That was more than  a month ago and it's has done bubkis to stop the financial meltdown that is underway.
And add in th fact that all this bloated spending id why there isn't enough credit to finance our huge ass deficits and the rest of the market without printing more money, producing inflation and spiralling the whole thing down the crapper.

Fox is so in the tank for Obama that there is no longer any reason for watching them.. Yesterday on a long car ride, I let the station stay on after Rush.  It was Sean Hannity, and he came right out and said that he would not tolerate any callers saying anything negative about Obama.  And that he would not either.  He actually said that the Obama life story is inspiring and he is looking forward to see how Obama handles things.

In the car I have sirrius stations and so there are many other people to listen to.  Fox has (as Ace would say) jumped the shark.
