| Save Saxby's SeatSaxby Chambliss is facing a run-off -- and he only got 49.8% of the vote in the election. If he gets that in a two-person race, he loses, and we lose another Senate seat. Donate, if you can. Palin's coming to help rally the troops for him. We'll finally get to see Palin unshackled from McCain's overly-calibrated agenda. Thanks to CJ for the last tip. Comments1
Because the Libertarian candidate got ~3% of the vote. I sincerely hope they aren't going to change to vote for the Dem.

Yeah, I guess we will. I didn't expect to see her tested so soon. We'll know soon enough what she really thinks. Posted by: Bart at November 07, 2008 03:36 PM (ICFJ+) 5
Damn! I thought Saxby Cambliss was going to win it. God bless Palin for jumping on the stick (definitely no pun intended) so fast.

Governor Palin said in that interview it would be hypocritical to take over Steven's office. You really need to listen to that interview.

Georgia requires Senate candidates to get a majority of the
votes. Saxby got 49.8% of the inital vote, which was split three
ways. Obviously, we still need to rally support, but I'm pretty
sure he's going to win the run-off.

Actually, a great idea. that's what I was saying on the other thread. She doesn't have to get too crazy. I imagine she is going to stick to the main points of American entrepreneurship getting beat up by high taxes, etc. She is going to have to go after Obama now. This is a good place to put out the first part of the platform.
Hopefully, whoever left with her in the big party out of Phoenix has been working on that with her. Posted by: kat-missouri at November 07, 2008 03:44 PM (GxnBZ) 10
If anyone wants to see how important it is, remember this part of Quin Hillyer's of The American Specator's article:
It will begin with their efforts to secure a filibuster-proof majority of 60 senators (including the two independents)... Next, watch what happens if they regularly can't peel off enough Republicans (or hold their own semi-fairminded people like Nelson and Joe Lieberman) to overcome whatever filibuster attempts Republicans do mount. Watch for an assault on the filibuster itself. Watch how they use as precedent the GOP "nuclear/constitutional option" on judges in 2005 -- except instead of just using it for judges, watch them use it against all filibusters. It's easy: Make the ruling from the chair that the filibuster is out of order for some reason. Instruct the parliamentarian to rule in their favor. Win the appeal of the parliamentarian's ruling by simple majority vote. And watch the courts pronounce it an internal matter of the legislative branch and thus outside of courtroom purview. Posted by: Christoph at November 07, 2008 03:45 PM (hawOV) 11
She is NOT going to have to go after Obama. dangit.

Don't forget, the Dem's will be POURING money to Saxby's opponent... the Obama machine will be helping... AND political campaigns can donate to other campaigns... so Saxby's opponent MAY get a lot of money from Dem campaigns... Thanks SO MUCH Ace for Helping on this!!!! Save Saxby!!! They won't come back. The Democrats will. The Republicans might. They're beaten. Convince them they're voting for Palin. They won't show if Romney becomes the face of the Party in the runoff. Posted by: The R.N.G. at November 07, 2008 03:48 PM (kGN8o) 14
Check out the comments on the ABC news article....the sore winners are doing a "bring her on!" to Palin.

Well, hopefully Saxby doesn't run as atrocious a campaign as we were subjected to here in Georgia. Plus, Saxby has the bailout millstone around his neck. He will need help, while at the same time trying not to piss off Georgia voters again with some stupid "reach across the aisle" idea. Posted by: Francase at November 07, 2008 04:01 PM (nrLPb) 17

Georgia requires Senate candidates to get a majority of the votes That is an outstanding requirement. Too bad the Republican Party didn’t have a similar requirement in the primaries. We might not have left 10 million of the base at home. Posted by: Vic at November 07, 2008 04:08 PM (Qd7GC) 19
Yeah, but isn't Saxby a douchebag? Gang of 10 on drilling... Comprehensive Shitfest.. I mean really.. I'd love to help, but I have sitting to be done and my ass isn't gonna park itself. I'm just saying... we're not "Saving Jim DeMint". It always seems to be these douchey types that are so high maintenance. I think we should just run Jim DeMint for two seats at once instead. Consider it saved. Barring that, we help him take over the senate. Posted by: Entropy at November 07, 2008 04:10 PM (m6c4H) 20
His ACU rating for 2006 (last year ran) is 96 so he couyldn't have "reached across the aisle" too many times. In comparison McLame's rating in 2006 was a dismal 65. Posted by: Vic at November 07, 2008 04:13 PM (Qd7GC) 21
Jim DeMint (R - SC) I propose we bring bill US2482; a Proposition to kick Ted Steven's ass out and take his parking pass; to the floor for a vote. Jim DeMint (R - GA) Excellent idea Jim. I second the motion. Jim DeMint (R - SC) Why thank you, Mr. DeMint. I must say the great state of Georgia has shown excellent taste in representation. omg, i heard Geraldo, the dbag talking about McCain needed to pick a vp that was more to the left of him. Thanks what got us into this mess in the fucking first place. I for one am tired of listening to libs talking like they know what our party needs and mod. republicans (whatever that means) talking the same way. God theses big bags of douche really piss me off. If Palin wasnt on the tickect, we woulda got only 25 mil votes. When our party is redefined, we need to push all those so called moderates to the other (dark) side, no pun intended, or drag their dumbasses back into the fold. Wheres Newt when we need him

Yeah, didn't Chambliss stand athwart off-shore drilling and shit? I realize the Senate hangs in the balance, but my ass already has been reamed and I'm still in recrimination mode. At this point, additonal ass-pain is marginal. What ever happened to the big GOP Housecleaning we've all been schreeching about this week? On with the show --- fuck him. Posted by: Cuffy Meigs at November 07, 2008 04:26 PM (uOvAE) 25
Yeah, but isn't Saxby a douchebag? He has his moments, and the gang of 10 shit was nonsense, but he's not a bad guy. He's reliably conservative and takes national security very seriously. And he is a hell of an improvement over the Democrat, who is a tedious bore. Posted by: UGAdawg at November 07, 2008 04:29 PM (MDHAs) 26

if this seat is lost then it'll be a long 50
years... it's all about runoff turnout, which will be much lower. if the democrats can marshal a large enough turnout for a runoff election, then they will be able to manufacture votes for every single election go forward. any interesting downballot runoffs that can alter turnout? Saxby is not worth saving. Palin should not compromise her conservative credentials as a conservative by coming here and campaigning for her. She tried to help to help on RINO only to have them bring and the knives and stab her in the back.
The only reason Saxby is even this close is because a lot of Republicans voted for him merely to prevent the Dems from getting 60 seats in the Senate. Since that is no longer likely, unles the Dems steal the election in MN, that protective shield is gone and most Republicans conservatives will stay home. Here is Saxby's 3 strikes Strike 1. Member of the committee and co sponsor of the Amnesty debacle Strike 2. Member of the committee that crafted the Senate energy plan which basically boiled down to shut up, get a sweater and forget about drilling. The bad part of that is that while the Senators were holding their little press announcement proclaiming this great piece of bipartisian legislation, Nancy Pelosi was turning out the lights in the House, literally, leaving the House REpublicans in the dark while she went on her 5 week book tour and left the energy legislation in committee. Strike 3 The bailout I would hope people would save their money and not support Saxby. If we are serious about cleaning up the Republican party, and try to force them back to their conservative ways, helping to reelect another RINO won't send the right message. To the Republicans since I am right here in GA I am going to pay attention to who comes down here to support him and the fact that Freedoms Watch is already running commercials on his behalf causing me to wonder about them. Is this already about electing somebody with an (R) behind their name or is this about regaining the conservative principles of the party? Tough times call for tough choices. Are you willing to make them? Posted by: Just A Grunt at November 07, 2008 06:48 PM (wN+/J) 35
#34...I was going to type up a similar post...glad you did it much better than I would have. During the dust-up, he was on Rush trying to explain #2 and he was quite squishey...can't help but think that's why he's in the predicament he's in. And for all who are thinking "no candidate is perfect", those are 3 pretty big misses. Palin will take heat campaigning for him, especially on the energy miss. Unless she get's him to publically change his stance on these items, I'll be keeping my coin, as well. Posted by: The Hammer at November 07, 2008 07:02 PM (P89vv) 36
Not helping Chambliss is near suicidal politically at this point. Every seat under 60 helps with leverage for conservatives. Shoot, I'd take Lieberman too right now, as it gives Republicans one more sop to pawn off on leftist votes. You know Reid's gonna try to peel off Republicans with each bill. Conservatives must hold back the upcoming deluge of radicalism until the 2010 elections.

"I would rather lose an election then lose a war" Except in this case the war is for the heart and soul of the Republican party. Are Trolls suggesting we throw Saxby under the bus? Saxby deserves a chance. Heck this has been a rough year for republicans, and Saxby wasn't the worst. If he doesn't toe the line, we vote him out next time... in the primary. Don't let the media and trolls decide for us. Sarah could have said no...the fact that she didn't should tell you something. Give him a chance.

#38...I'm certainly not a troll...I just expect R's to act like R's. The 3 instances noted in #34 are pretty big in my book...heck, why not come out and support the Freedom of Choice Act while he's at it? If he'll publically apologize to the base for taking leave of his principles, I'd reconsider. Otherwise, I'd rather be kicked in the junk by someone I expect it from, not a family member. Posted by: The Hammer at November 07, 2008 08:07 PM (P89vv) 41
First we had the "Mitt is a Mormon, BOO!" purists. Now we have the "Saxby is a Republican so throw him under the bus for a brand new day" purists. Great! We'll end up with Obamatons in full control with their righteous wind in our face, but you'll have stood on some principle, or something.

Georgians aren't Stupid. Saxby has this comfortably. Still, give- make the dems blow cash in a losing effort.
The fact Stuart Smalley is only couple hundred votes out solidifies this for the Republicans. Posted by: Gerry Owen at November 07, 2008 10:03 PM (oGv5F) 43
#41...sorry...I don't see amnesty, offshore drilling, or free-market enterprise as "some principle, or something". These are 3 bedrock foundations of the conservative movement. If Saxby can't make the right choices on these then there are questions to answer. I don't live in GA, so I don't have a vote (of course, if I were a demo, I would be bused in to vote) but I'm not giving any of my wealth to any R who doesn't get it. I heard Saxby on the radio defending his position to join the sham drilling Gang of 20 and he spouted the same tired "get along" drek that put us in this position. So, unless he has a come to Jesus moment publically, thanks but no thanks.

There not being an African American in the Senator race rematch may help depress the vote in the Special election. I think Saxby could win a rematch, it's just a shame he came within two tenths of one percent of outright winning (blame the lib parts of the state for that). But the repubs in the state can't rest on their laurels cause they could suffer from the same syndrome and not show up to vote. This is the time to man the barricades not the time to veg out.

Living in Georgia I can tell you it is a decidedly red state. Chamblis will win with double digits. turnout will be low since the mesiah is not gonna be on the ballot and the brown people and the hispanics will stay home. Chamblis wins 56-44. The runoff is a GOP shoe in. Bank on it
