| Teacher Belittles Students Who Support McCainAn elephant in the room: When will Barack Obama tell his most fervent supporters that they cannot use their jobs in state and federal government to unethically advocate for him, or to illegally dig up dirt on his opponents? Comments1
I saw this yesterday. We should take up a collection and get that girl a scholarship to a private school in the Asheville, NC area.
What a disgrace. Imagine if the races of all involved were reversed? Posted by: Hedgehog at November 07, 2008 01:57 PM (aDOKh) 2
The teacher is getting investigated.
Nothing will come of it, of course. Teacher's unions are notorious for protecting their own. Posted by: Slublog at November 07, 2008 02:00 PM (R8+nJ) 3

Does Obama share this sentiment? Well, that's a trick question -- he does. But will he insist that even his most cultish devotees do their jobs and follow the law? I don't think he will. This is just a tangible anecdote of what I read across teh innerwebz before the election. If you think that bitch is an exception in her profession then you're sadly deluded. Conservative kids were getting browbeaten the whole time. And get used to it because cocksuckers like education expert Bill Ayers have access to those ginormous ears and public schools will only get worse.

a few years ago, had a guy who was like 7 years younger than me, but he had some of the same teachers I did. And he was big into pop music, and the "drop it like it's hot, drop it like it's hot" crap, that I never understood, cuz it was just noise with a beat. Anyways, we were just talking (cuz I went to school with his big brother, who I and my friends used to beat up on cuz he was too big for his britches back then, now he is just a fat cokefiend, and I would kill him on sight, but thats beside the point) and he mentions a teacher we had in common, and I said, "I remember her, she was a bitch, a good teacher, but a bitch." He thought she was just a bitch, cuz he's an ignorant cokefiend, and he would say "I hated her, I wanted to kick her in the twat." and since he was geeking (coming off of a coke high) he started to riff out on "drop it like it's hot." "When a teacher get an attitud, kick her in the twat, kick her in the twat." He had that whole song riffed out, about how much he hated that particular teacher. Irony? I'm a dull razor, and I got suspended and expelled for T-shirts and boots. He was stoned and geeked almost everyday, and he got a diploma. Public education Rocks like a smelly twat.

I wonder if this dingbat has any idea of the numbers of troops that we "still" have in Europe.
It would also be a hoot if one of the McCain supporter kids answered her question on why they chose McCain in this way. Because of racism Ms. Teacher. I saw films (outside of school) on some of his friends and even his reverend and I don't want any possibility of taint in being a supporter of racism. Oh, and because as my great, great grandfather fought and died in our civil war to free slaves, my current father has spent much of his offtime in fighting Islamic extremism to fight Communism....like my dear grandfather. Haven't seen the video but read the Superintendent's comments on Malkin's site. the superintendent got it wrong. Sure it is worse that the military child was hurt, however, every child in a public school should be able to voice their opinion without fearing retribution or chastisement from the teacher in the classroom. The is more a freedom of speech issue, exacerbated by the fact that this child was military.

Well, time to start taking it to the education system, don't you think? Seriously, get an e-mail campaign (a national, bloody minded e-mail onslaught on this damn school) going to have this teacher removed, God knows she deserves it -- if anything from the way she conducted her classroom she's a piss poor teacher. Send a message to our schools, Mr. Ayers (another person who should have an e-mail campaign calling for his dismissal), and O & Friends. Let this be the first barricade to rally around -- why not? If we can't as a block (and it will have to be a mass movement, safety in numbers after all) start standing up and taking back FOR OUR CHILDREN, IN THE DEFENSE OF A CHILD, then we deserve to be spit on and tramped in the dust. I would be more than willing to offer up my services crafting some sort of letter for this.

The thing that bothered me about that video wasn't the teacher's politics (they're ALL like that,) but the teacher's all-around stupidity and poor verbal skills. With all the credentialing hoops you have to jump through to become a primary school teacher, it's amazing how many dunderheads make it into the classrooms.

There's a pretty good article written on this rogue teacher in the Fayetteville Observer. The paper got a few statements from the teacher, Diatha D. Harris, in reaction to all the fervor that the youtube/Swedish Documentary video has caused.
http://www.fayobserver.com/article?id=309760 I especially love the fact that she, Mr. Harris, claims that the video had been "doctored" to make her look bad. What a joke. Posted by: Tedd NYC at November 07, 2008 02:35 PM (5Znqo) 35

I'm a former public school teacher. This does not surprise me. She was just stupid enough to say it on tape.
- I've seen English teachers bitch about propaganda and one-sided portrayals of groups and people, then show OutFoxed to middle school kids. - I've seen a high school social studies teacher praise the anarchists at the local state college. Talking about how glorious it is seeing those red and black flags flying. - I've seen a social studies teacher wear an "Electoral College" t-shirt to school on election day, and an English teacher ask him if that's where he went to college. I shit you not. I'm not religious. I don't go to church. I drink more than I should. I have a foul mouth. I like pr0n. My kids will go to Catholic schools if it bankrupts me. Poor girl. How sad she had to sit through this. The classroom is not safe.If anyone wonders what it's like to be a white girl, going to school in the desegragated south, this is it. Fuck this woman. This just brings back all sorts of (bad) memories for my husband and I as white children...having to be bussed across town to black schools and having to be subjected to all that righteous blackness. Not to mention that nothing can be done to her, not just because she's a teacher. NO, it's because she's black. There is no way a white teacher would still have her job if she were going on and on like this against a black candidate to his/her classroom. This is what is dividing our country. This fucking racist bullshit!! Racism goes both ways, my sweeties. Perfect example of how racism is alive and well. Why do you think the southern "rednecks" feel the way they do about blacks?
Posted by: ShadyLady at November 07, 2008 02:45 PM (2Jb9o) 41
bunny boy: When I was growing up, I was subjected to a lot of propaganda by teachers, too. What I resented was being a captive audience to some blowhard, no matter what they were spouting. It takes time away from teaching and they can't pass it off as current events because it is so one side.

This teacher isn't even a good listener. She clearly takes the answers from the children and then spins it into an answer she wants to segue to the next topic.

Here's my letter: I'm writing to you about Diantha Harris, a schoolteacher in one of your schools. I'm sure you are aware by now of the appalling video shown on the net (and soon to come to a television station near you), of Harris belittling children who were pro-McCain, and bringing one little girl almost to tears by telling her that her father, who is in the military, would be in Iraq for 100 years. What normal adult would say something like that to a young child? Somebody too nasty and vicious to teach them, obviously. And to think she did this while the cameras were rolling ! I don't doubt things are much worse when she's alone in the room with those poor browbeaten children. I hesitated to write you, because public school teachers are best at protecting themselves, and I have an awful feeling that any investigation that may be taking place will probably end up blaming the little girl, or George Bush, or anyone but the stupid perpetrator, but I'm writing anyway because I don't want you to think it wasn't noticed. The fact that Harris: (1) sounds utterly uneducated; and (2) doesn't think she's done anything wrong, makes her, in my mind, a rather typical version of the form of lowlife known as a public school teacher. Once upon a time, loved and respected professionals. Now, a mere unionized work force, its members out for themselves, exclusively and all the time. You'll do nothing, of course, because that's what you're good at -- but don't think we aren't watching. Posted by: bluejade at November 07, 2008 02:50 PM (DjMXQ) 45
That whore abused that girl. The last day I was in highschool, was when an "english" teacher told a girl, I happened to be in a "study group" with, assigned by the teacher, that she was trying to be my girlfriend (not fuck me, but we got the inference) and what I did, in defense of someone who was not me, was I approached the teachers desk, and he said something like "I know you, I know you can't do anything or you are in BIG trouble you little bastard punk" He thought he was just insulting my school record, but he called me a "Litlle bastard," (the little bastard, I remember that distinctly, cuz technicaly I am a bastard) The teacher didn't try to control the situation, he chose to offend me, so I flipped his desk. I was expelled that day. I'd rather be me, than any of the pussys who stood aside and allowed that teacher to abuse other children. Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 07, 2008 02:50 PM (ul7te) 46
No, Wicked, no. That is not enough. I agree with the sentiment and support it, but the day may come when homeschooling will not be an option (O is already putting the halt on the voucher idea; do you think it will stop there? already some IL schools will not let homeschoolers and some religious schoolers graduate on time because they lack "core curriculum classes" only offered at the public institutions, and these are children who are scoring in the 80 -90th percentiles on standardized tests so academic comprehension isn't their problem). Not everyone can afford private schools either (and how long before they are ideologically steamrollered?) The time and the place to start with this is good -- a causus belli if ever there was one, and long, long overdue.

You're right. The goal, for better or worse, is to get kids to pass the state tests. That's it. A lot of teachers, and even some administrators, really don't seem to care. Believe me, that teacher in the video honestly believes she did nothing wrong. She thinks it is okay to get paid for what she did in that classroom. Posted by: bunny boy at November 07, 2008 02:52 PM (YsSn7) 48
More than that, unknown jane #46. I think California just outlawed homeschooling unless the homeschooling parent has a teaching credential. Note to self: Teaching credential diploma mill as business opportunity? Posted by: bluejade at November 07, 2008 02:55 PM (DjMXQ) 49
In the school district where I taught, we were not even allowed to put political bumper stickers on our cars. We were forbidden to wear campaign buttons/shirts or tell students how we were going to vote. This video makes my head (and heart) hurt.

California repealed that ruling, as so many people freaked out. If a family wants to homeshcool, it's not difficult to hook up with a school that offers the homeschooling program, complete with transcripts and certified teachers. I know, because I've been homeschooling my kids for over 15 years. Posted by: ShadyLady at November 07, 2008 02:59 PM (2Jb9o) 51

Actually, I wasn't expelled because of that, I had two more classes, but because the scuttlebutt spread, and then in my last class a literature class, some pissant threatened me, which was fine, but I was driven over the edge when some other pissant said something like "listen to him" and I was hit in the head. I threw a desk, and I choked a moron out, his name was niel, and I threw the desk at "robby" the teacher was yelling, and he was freaking out, cuz I was such a good student in his class, telling ME to calm down, even though I was the victim, and robby, the one I threw the desk at said, "why don't you pick on someone your own size?" cuz neil was already on the ground next to unconcious. "I don't see anyone my size, but I'll take you right now fat ass." My GAY lit teacher tackled me. My VERY SKINNY, VERY GAY, lit teacher tackled me. I regularly play after hours sports in local public schools in Chicago. They're leagues run by a local corporate sports outfit. The material I find sitting around the public school is ridiculous.
You'll find Chicago Teacher's Union material all over the place. Magazines, printouts, buttons, flyers. I just take cell phone pictures and post them to blogs. The really bad stuff is from the kids. A Christopher Columbus wall had students' drawings and one of them said "Christopher Columbus committed genocide against my ancestors in Guatemala, but I get to go to school now so it is OK." I don't get to see a lot of 3rd grade school work, but this drawing was over the top. Posted by: Gabriel Sutherland at November 07, 2008 03:09 PM (AHrTm) 55

Uh oh, bluejade, you wrote that she "sounds utterly uneducated." You will therefore be branded a "racist" because one thing you can never, ever do is tell a black person that they aren't in the top percentile of the intelligence quotient. Never mind that some of them may be as dumb as a box of hair and sound like they're talking through a mouthful of potatoes (I had a black science teacher in junior high who couldn't pronounce my name -- she called me "Andre," as in the Giant -- and didn't understand anything in the simple 8th grade physics textbook we used), think that Jews flooded the inner cities with crack and crystal meth in order to keep the Black Youth oppressed (just google "Jews, inner city, crack"), and say they don't like Chinese people because they have "slanty eyes" and are "sneaky" (I had a black coworker say that to me) -- acknowledging any of that will be used against you to prove that you are the one that's racist.

Wickedpinto, I often think I'd like to be a high school teacher, too. But in Ohio, even with my bachelor degree, I would have to go to school for three to four more years (master's required) learning pedagogical theory and whatever other crap they call their indoctrination process. I would put up with working with substandard and oppressive teachers like that if I could make a positive difference (yeah, I had some issues with teachers growing up, too!). It's not enough to be knowledgeable, intelligent, non-judgmental, caring, and personable. You have to go through their leftwing training to even be considered. Steam coming out my ears...he better call off the goons, and I don't mean it racist, gosh, I 'm sick to death of having to watch my words. I mean the Obamabots are thuggish, one-wayed, arrogant bullies. Yeah, she feels real bright, real...mmm patriotic taking it to the little kids in her class. Did you see how the one boy snickered at the girl who was being told her father could be in the war for 100 yrs? My husband told me today that a fellow officer (plain clothers detective) at our local PD had an interesting experience yesterday at a bank. There were a couple of lines waiting for the cashiers at the counter. A lady came all the way from the back of line and walked right up front to the counter. Completely bypassing everyone else. The clerk says "Excuse me, but you will have to go to the back of the line" the lady says, "Do you know who the President is? I don't have to wait behind white people anymore." The clerk says "You will either take your place in line, or we can get you an escort out of the bank." Guess what? She went and got in line. Can you guess her race? What I loathe about this is that we didn't have this problem with race until He made it such an issue. You know, America is a pop culture on a lot of levels. Will Smith could have run, or Denzel Washington and they probably could of won - but at least we respect them, we know something about them and admire how they have succeeded in life and raised their families. I actually think they are more qualified than him (not that I would have prefered them, I am not a bubble head) Michael Steele, the list could go on. But no, we had to get a Marxist leaning, secret keeping arrogant man who has made a career surrounding himself with surrogates who fight for him and he has used race in this election and if he doesn't put a stop to it, it is going to get much worse. Racists and stupidity, And they go together. People like the woman at the bank, and this teacher - I KNOW they are not representative of the larger population but it the noisy few that make it bad for everybody. P.S. Malkin posted the Superintendent's letter about this - good letter - he's NOT a happy camper. Posted by: freetofly at November 07, 2008 04:12 PM (j1UTM) 71

The more and more I think about it, the last thing we need to do is abandon the public school system, it hasn't worked so far. We need our own "long march" to right what went wrong (or left if you prefer). We need to have more conservative teachers in our classrooms - especially history and the social sciences. They at least will be scrupulously fair when discussing politics with children. we need to take it back so we don't lose future generations to this indoctrination.
The most jaw-dropping segment was where she flatly said it didn't matter to her who her student's supported. That came after the blatant "uh-hus" and agenda pushing for Obama and the "you want your daddy to stay in the military for 100 years?" to the McCain supporter. Is she really that blind to her own biases? If so, she doesn't need to be leading or teaching kids, period. Vile. We NEED to take BACK our institutions. Given enough money, we can reduce the damage our first Communist President can do.
We urgently need a Republican media (TV net, some daily papers) and conservative schools. We're not going to turn the media and public schools conservative any time soon, so we need to start our own. And in order to attract enough kids, these private conservative schools will have to be cheap. And also have to have all their paperwork done to perfection for when the educops look in on us. Now, I personally have no money, zip, zero. But aren't the Republicans supposed to have lots of members who are rich? Why can't we do this? Sisyphus there should be no place in our school systems for either of these teachers.
You were not getting replies because you came in with a chip on your shoulder assuming the worst. No one wants to get into a convo with an angry ass who thinks ill of them. Except me of course. I'm sorry. I'm just reacting so strongly because my band teacher took my mouth virginity when I was in high school and TOTALLY lied by saying he'd tell me when he was about to come.

I don't know what pisses me off more; the bullying of the kid by this bitch or that she's a teacher and is less articulate than Snoop on "The Wire". Wanna know why our schools suck? It isn't from a lack of funding, it's because we let cretinous fuckheads like this hold teaching certificates. Posted by: UGAdawg at November 07, 2008 07:16 PM (MDHAs) 87

I think she was wrong, and I think its bullshit to inject your opinion in the classroom with children that young. I also don't think either case is representative of any meaningful large-scale problem in the education system. I guarantee you that little girl went home and told her mom, and her mom took action.
It's just fodder for demagoguery. Posted by: sisyphus at November 07, 2008 09:11 PM (D/pgX) 92
sisyphus:
I also don't think either case is representative of any meaningful large-scale problem in the education system. You are 100% fucking wrong. It's typical of every school I've ever been to, it's been an epidemic my entire life and longer, and I've been ringing this fucking bell for 20 years. It is fucking everywhere, it is fucking systematic, and all you have to do is go to a "teachers college" at a public university to find out why. The "demagoguery" is in the video, and it's in a school near you, every fucking day. Half the fucking college teachers I had regularly hurled abuse, large or small, at everything that wasn't far left. More than half of my high-school and lower teachers slipped a little leftism, or a lot, into their lessons, and they weren't afraid to call children names if the children stood up. This isn't some kind of isolated case, this is NORMAL. Posted by: Merovign at November 07, 2008 10:38 PM (UXoQt) 93

That's another thing I hate about the 21st-cent.: in very short order, the opposition can hi-jack a discussion of the issue with personal problems. Note to disfunctional Obamiacs: get a life!
Let us take this opportunity to remember what Dr. Sam Johnson said: "Freedom of the press, yes! But also, freedom of the cudgel." This should probably apply to the sacred trust teachers once were under. Regarding the documentary: thank God the Swedes got one right, for a change. ("Herr Hitler, really, we're neutral.") This Harris creature definitely qualifies as a thought-control monster. On camera! Scratch had a good hold on her that day! Glad the Swedes caught it. I will pray for that little girl, as I do for our military. God knows what it's worth, and it will be repaid in His time. May our Creator stop the mouths of those who speak lies, may they be dog-meat, and may He give strength to the Righteous! Anyone can be a fanatic about their chosen idol. No one is perfect.
This teacher definitely went over the line. She should receive the punishment due. But to directly accuse Barack Obama of supporting actions like this is ignorant and completely illogical. This woman is taking out her anger of being treated differently for her skin color on a defenseless little girl. That is not right. That is not an issue in relation to the political candidate of her choice, but an issue in relation to the society that this nation is. The little boy who said that he wants Obama to win because he is black, obviously needs someone that he can relate to and look up to other than than glamorized gangsters and rappers of Hollywood. I am happy he has that now. Posted by: Alice at November 12, 2008 12:10 AM (wLPAh) Posted by: google排名 at August 11, 2009 10:20 PM (KUnwh) 101
