Now that you mention it, let's take a walk down memory lane to that time where Bush was President-Elect. It was the Day of the Dangling Chad, remember? Bush faced the most rocky and most brief "transition" period, ever. Bush was arguing for a long time that the transition period should begin, that preparations should be started should he emerge on top over Al Gore. The economy, foreign policy, a lot was as stake during that crazy "transition". All that was roundly denied by Clinton and particularly the MSM who took the attitude, "How dare he?" Word is Bush, starting out behind the normal curve, was just getting his administration really going when 9-11 hit.

Additionally, a recession was obvious by December, 2000 and Bush said so. He got pilloried for it, accused of "talking up a recession", in that his mention of it would fuel the ongoing crisis of confidence and risk becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have an idea lets set up community service pick up sites through out the country. These sites can be across the street from the day labor sites. A great activity for these youths would be coming through neighborhoods and performing  beautification programs such as leaf raking, picking up trash and mowing lawns. 

Of course I  imagine that the day laborers would get kind of pissed and maybe they would go across the street and beat up the community service youth workers. Frankly I would put my money on the day laborers in those matches.

I worked as a judge of election for the first time on Tuesday, and one of our Democratic judges was a young guy who spent more time taking breaks and gabbing with the precinct captain than actually, y'know, checking names and handing out ballots.  The two other D judges for our precinct didn't show up at all.  So it was the two R judges (myself and a guy named Steve) who basically did all the work. 

Sounds like a metaphor for any Democratic administration, especially the one upcoming.
