| Flashback, Oct. 25th: "These people are going to try and shred her after the campaign to divert blame from themselves"A "McCain aide," who we can now reasonably conclude is the fired Randy Scheunemann, predicted precisely this. He names names. Schmidt and Wallace. Are they behind this? I don't know. But he predicted they'd do this. And now it's been done.Even as John McCain and Sarah Palin scramble to close the gap in the final days of the 2008 election, stirrings of a Palin insurgency are complicating the campaign's already-tense internal dynamics. Four Republicans close to Palin said she has decided increasingly to disregard the advice of the former Bush aides tasked to handle her, creating occasionally tense situations as she travels the country with them. Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image even as others in McCain's camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain's decline. "She's lost confidence in most of the people on the plane," said a senior Republican who speaks to Palin, referring to her campaign jet. He said Palin had begun to "go rogue" in some of her public pronouncements and decisions. "I think she'd like to go more rogue," he said. The emergence of a Palin faction comes as Republicans gird for a battle over the future of their party: Some see her as a charismatic, hawkish conservative leader with the potential, still unrealized, to cross over to attract moderate voters. Anger among Republicans who see Palin as a star and as a potential future leader has boiled over because, they say, they see other senior McCain aides preparing to blame her in the event he is defeated. "These people are going to try and shred her after the campaign to divert blame from themselves," a McCain insider said, referring to McCain's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt, and to Nicolle Wallace, a former Bush aide who has taken a lead role in Palin's campaign. Palin's partisans blame Wallace, in particular, for Palin's avoiding of the media for days and then giving a high-stakes interview to CBS News' Katie Couric, the sometimes painful content of which the campaign allowed to be parceled out over a week. "A number of Gov. Palin's staff have not had her best interests at heart, and they have not had the campaign's best interests at heart," the McCain insider fumed, noting that Wallace left an executive job at CBS to join the campaign. Is it true? Again, I don't know. I feel bad tossing out names myself-- but the cowardly people smearing Palin force us to speculate. So step out into the spotlight. You've got a lot to say. Stand behind your fucking words. Neither is a Romney loyalist, as far as I know. So if it's these two jokers, the Romney-loyalist theory is wrong. Thanks to locus. Comments1

Unless the innocent ones give us the names, they're going to take the heat. So, Schmidt and Wallace? Other aides could confirm it. If they don't? Why would I support candidates they work for anymore? McCain is doing everything he can to get back in the good graces of the Club of 100 and the new president.
He and his staff are trashing Palin not only to assuage Mac's gigantic ego, but to acknowledge to the Beltway Insiders that he "made a mistake" by choosing the chillbilly from Alaska. This way they'll welcome him back, and they can all have a good chuckle together. "What the fuck was I thinking?" Mac will sputter to Hillary. The thing is, Palin was in it for real. She put herself and her family through hell, and then the conservative base stayed home or voted for Obama, and now Mac and his crowd are taking massive shits on her. I've written Palin a letter, which my whole family signed, in which I told her I was glad to see that there are still people like her, and that I wish her all the best, and I admire her greatly. A few thousand such missives will do a lot to wash the poison away. I watched Mr. Smith Goes to Washington last night, with James Stweart. Everything he said about Congress is still true: corruption, losing sight of the real job, betraying trust... The only difference is that in the movie the good guy won, and in reality the lying, corrupt, incompetent, racist Manchurian candidate won, and the Silver Knight has no qualms about destroying a good woman whose only sin was believing him. You can bet she won't make that mistake again, and neither will I. Posted by: Tom W. at November 06, 2008 01:32 AM (dOzJU) 17

This is just incredible incompetence. This child-like trust has got to stop. Dialog: Wallace: "Yeah, don't worry if you can't get something outright bad you'll have two hours of interview to edit." Couric: "Thanks Nicole, we'll talk later. And I will definitely keep you in mind for a position when I switch back to the morning show." Posted by: mare at November 06, 2008 01:36 AM (X1fsj) 22

The case against Schmidt (links are scattered throughout the 2nd-to-last Palin thread): o Scheunemann fingered him o He was supposedly in the hotel room o He is not a conservative, he's a campaign tactician for hire o He is know for launching the sourceless smear o He was asked by Romney to join his campaign, but went with McCain. Blaming Palin salvages his rep and takes her out of the 2012 competition The one saving fact: Schmidt originally recommended her to McCain. Of course "rogue" Romney staffers have also been trying to sabotage her, so there's plenty of hunting to do. Posted by: geoff at November 06, 2008 01:49 AM (cpqad) 48
Nicolle Wallace worked at CBS, so she knew what Gov. Palin would be up against when arranging the Couric interview.
The reason Randy Scheunemann was brought in was to prepare Gov. Palin for the VP debate. I suspect because after Couric, Gov. Palin had lost confidence in Wallace. Posted by: Michelle's American White Racist at November 06, 2008 01:49 AM (NLtVk) 49

Did anyone else hear the recording of Sarah Palin calling the Glenn Beck show to arrange a conversation with Glenn on air?
It was on his show voice mail. She had to call herself. She said the campaign was too busy to get in touch with Glenn so she did it herself, leaving Todd's cell phone number. Can you believe that McCain's campaign was so dumb they didn't think air time on the number 3 radio show in America was worth pursuing? She did it herself. Man, does that say a lot about an incompetent campaign and a lot about how sharp Governor Palin is. Posted by: mare at November 06, 2008 01:56 AM (X1fsj) 61

We nominated the most centrist candidate either party has seen in years and we see how it turned out for us. So to hell with the BS that we didn't reach out enough to independents. Sarah Palin is the only reason I even lifted a finger for McCain.
You'd think that they'd be too busy being consumed with rage about the
media's conduct in this campaign to throw her under the bus but they're
just showing themselves to be a bunch of gutless weasels.
The one positive - if we can call it that - is that the left is feeling invincible and for all the dishonesty with which Obama wrapped himself in moderation during the campaign, he is a true believer and the left will reveal themselves in a million ways now. They can't help themselves. It is easy enough for tools like David Brooks and Peggy Noonan who have schoolgirl crushes on Obama to look like the smart ones now but Sarah's courage in plainly saying what a lot of us believe is in store for us with an Obama presidency can be the source of her political "redemption." Buyers' remorse among large segments of the electorate will only elevate her stature. Posted by: HipsterCon at November 06, 2008 03:04 AM (FWI/i) 74

OK, so theoretically, Palin is a moron and Biden is a freakin' genius. However, when Palin says something that is not completely in line with what the McCain people want, she is being subtly calculating, and when Biden says something that is roughly the exact opposite of what the Obama people want (or it might be -- hard to tell since no one can figure out what the hell he means), that's just him misspeaking. Got it. Posted by: Michael at November 06, 2008 10:52 AM (siOQ7) 81
Set aside the way the Left went after her. Disregard for the sake of this comment the McCain team's dissing of her. Find below an appraisal of her in situ. Sarah Palin was a lightweight choice. Ideologically, her instincts were good, and that's not worth nothing. But she was way out of her depth. Now, you may not like to hear that, but it's the unvarnished truth, and the sooner the GOP--and Sarah Palin--understand that, the better for all involved. There are other smarter, more accomplished women in the GOP than Sarah Palin. Overlooking this reality is symptomatic of a delirious casting about for a lifering. She's not it; every day spent trying to "polish" her for a role that's above her is a day wasted that could be spent finding someone who is equal to the task. It's not an insult; it's just a fact. Not everyone is right for consideration--she's not. If you can't explain in a televised interview what you like to read, you're not ready for prime time. I don't care if it's The Joy of Cooking, anyone worthy of consideration for Number Two has got to advertise that he/she actually does have at least a shred of candlepower. I'm not looking for a wizard, and I'm no slave to the "cult of intellect" that keeps so many harping about how smart Bill Clinton is. It was a simple fucking question, and she had nothing. Nothing. At all. Unreal. If she galvanized the base, it wasn't because people thought she'd make a good, able leader of 400 million Americans and a vast bureaucracy in a complex, dangerous world. The base loved her because she was a giant FU to the BDS horde, and because she both lived and got the basic conservative litany down and repeated it well. I loved her at the convention; I thought she managed the debate pretty well. But if Sarah Palin is seen as a heavyweight serious comer in the GOP's future, then our bench is shallow and we're well and truly fucked.

Railwriter, You make it sound like Palin will not grow and learn from this baptism to fire. She sounded lightweight because she was a novice at dealing with the national media and was unnerved by a session with a hostile interviewer. I'm not sure why her flub on a question to Katie Couric is any more damning than the stuff Joe Biden said. Do you really think that Biden doesn't know that "JOBS" is a four letter word? Neither do I. But neither do I believe that the Chief Executive of Alaska doesn't read newspapers. Good politicians grow from such experiences and there is no reason to believe that Palin doesn't have the intelligence and character to refine her national persona. In eight years she will be only 52 years old. My guess is that she is grow leaps and bounds over the next few years. Hopefully that process will not cause her to lose touch with her populist origins. That's garbage railwriter. Its a pretty insulting question when you're running for Vice President of the US. And it was pretty obvious she was annoyed - especially on the heels of the Gibson interview - and was just giving the question the brush-off. She was asked the same question in an unthreatening and friendly environment by Charlie Rose a year ago and gave a perfectly substantive answer.
Don't get sucked in by the bullshit here. It wasn't long ago that Obama gave his young childhood years in Indonesia as an example of his foreign policy experience yet when Palin references being near Russia as affecting her perspective she becomes a laughingstock. We're in an artificial reality. Posted by: HipsterCon at November 06, 2008 11:57 AM (FWI/i) 85

Sarah is going to be a major player in the GOP for about the next quarter of a century God willing. She helped avert what would have been a total disaster had McCain picked Romney or somebody like that. Truth be told, she could use a little more depth on international affairs. But she'll get that done. And she's a hard-ass that won't forget how she got worked over by mealy mouthed pukes like Couric and Gibson.
John McCain is all about the honorable loss. He's a weird candidate. He feels better cutting deals with the other side. He feels better losing. Mark Anthony must be his political hero. The ultimate irony is that this moron in large measure cost himself any chance of winning with his so-called campaign finance reform act, which is nothing more than an assault of First Amendment rights. It allowed him to be outspent 4-1. Lesson learned this time for all time: The blue-blood, country club sect can't get Republicans elected as dog catchers. Reform from within. Support only those who deserve your support. Much work to do but the best thing we have going for ourselves is this rank incompetence of the other side. Get behind Bobby Jindal and Sarah. We'll begin to pick up seats in 10. Back on top in 12. Never forget. We need to modernize, we need to purge the crooks and phonies from our ranks. Right now the country is in a precarious way. Be brave. Posted by: Ghost of WFB at November 06, 2008 12:13 PM (lqE85) 87

They do not know what it is like for the normal every day person has to do and what they are worried about. The only reason I could get behind squishy McCain and vote for him with any enthusiasm was because of Sarah Palin. I was familiar with her going back to late 2007, and even though she is short on experience (but as much as Barry O), I had hoped Grandpa would strongly consider her for VP. The problem is that he picked her only 2 days before announcing, leaving her in catch-up mode.

Neither is a Romney loyalist, as far as I know. So if it's these two jokers, the Romney-loyalist theory is wrong. Gee, ya think? And yet that didn't stop it from being spread on this and many other prominent blogs on the right since it first started with one unsourced, unsubstantiated claim from the gossip portion of the Spectator blog. Which it now turns out was dead wrong. I never wanted Romney as VP for just the reason we have seen, this campaign was a train wreck from day 1, so you can stop with the Romneybot shit. But no surrogate raised more money or campaigned harder for McCain despite the shitty treatment he got from McCain. Fred disappeared save for one speech at the convention. Rudy did likewise. Huck, true to form, became a talk show host. Romney spent the months since he graciously bowed out rather than pulling a Hillary, or a Huck for that matter, doing non-stop campaigning and fundraising for McCain and host of congressional Republican candidates. He and his team deserve a lot more respect than they have gotten here and throughout the right blogosphere. Posted by: JackStraw at November 06, 2008 12:51 PM (VW9/y) 93
McCain had a hard time running as a conservative, because he is a moderate. I think you can tell when McCain's handlers were controlling her. I was excited when he put Palin on the ticket, but after the convention she sounded like an out of order robot. In the last few weeks of the campaign, she sounded real. I think it's ashame if we become what we're fighting against, that's what the Democrats have become. They are now the proponents of racism, corruption, "baby-killers", and killing the constitution.

First time I voted for a President was in 92, and I punched the ticket for Bush 41.. And have been voting for the LOTE ever since. This year, I was not going to do that anymore. Either vote for my beliefs or not at all. Then Sarah came in from the wilderness and she saved my vote for the GOP. And countless others, according to unnamed sources (if the press can, so can I). if I had my druthers about Sarah, it would be that she had a term and a half as Governor of Alaska under her belt before now.. Cute. No actual evidence for the first two and in the third case it is a contrivance as she simply asked Gibson to be more specific. Do you really want to go down that road given the amount of idiotic things Joe Biden has said directly into a television camera? I don't usually rebut rebuttals, because I made my point, and you're entitled to make yours. I think I've given the wrong impression, though, either because I didn't make clear my point, or because it was misunderstood. I'll try to clarify. "It's a pretty insulting question." To someone defensive about reading, it could be seen that way. It was a softball question, though, really. Can you name a book you've read in the last month? The last six? Why couldn't she? Moreover, it was an open invitation for us to get a sense of what interests her, what the cast of her mind is. She could've used the opportunity to rock Couric, but she let it go. "Well, Katie, I'm glad you asked. I've been reading up on the history of XX, and the author has some great points to make about YY." I got the sense that she's uneasy around such things, and at least a passing awareness of the world around her. I don't care that she hasn't travelled abroad; I'd just like to think that she's got enough curiosity about the modern world to have at least a serviceable inventory of ideas--a kind of "mental furniture"--about it. I didn't get that sense. As for the Charlie Gibson interview, it was certainly an ambush question. She'd have to field harder questions than that, and more difficult situations, in national office. I'd hope she'd have the aplomb to be able to either gaff him off more gracefully or take him down. You make it sound like Palin will not grow and learn from this baptism to fire. I hope she does, though I have my doubts. As I said, her ideological underpinning seems sound. As someone in another thread said, she's just "green." My counterpoint was in reaction to the rush to judgement by those who claim she's the "future of the party" when we've only known the woman for a couple months, and who think that anyone who thinks otherwise is some kind of Quisling or worse. She's not ready now; she may be ready in the future; I'd rather see her put in a decade or more of public service before she aspires for national office. I felt the same way about Obama, which is why I voted McCain/Palin. That she could get 20,000 people to a rally is great. My point isn't that she's not a draw; she clearly is, and I never tried to claim that she wasn't a charismatic candidate. My point is that she's not a compelling candidate. She might be one day, though I doubt it. I'd like to be proven wrong. Jessica Simpson could draw 20,000 conservatives, and no one is arguing that she'd be ready, either. And before you hyperventilate about my correlation of Simpson with Palin, consider the point: we need to be looking for people who can deliver the votes, sure. I'd just prefer that it be someone who is ready for the office as well. And in the end, Paula, "drawing crowds of 20,000" really didn't pay off, did it? People didn't vote for her because they didn't think she's ready. I don't, either, but the alternative in this case was much worse. thanks soooo much for the view from the country club terrace. You got any more Noonan fanboy shit for me to read . "Set aside the way the Left went after her. But if Sarah Palin is seen as a heavyweight serious comer in the GOP's future, then our bench is shallow and we're well and truly fucked." -Railwriter Amen, Railwriter. Amen. Railwriter just doesn't get it....Palin CHOSE not to answer the question about what she reads.....it's astounding that anyone woudl think she doesn't, or can't read. She simply did a poor job of putting it back in Couric's face...probably because she is too nice, and certainly not properly prepared for the gotcha attitude from the mainstream press.

Railwriter, my only complaint about Palin is that her TV appearances
made it hard for me to defend her to my snickering liberal friends in
Manhattan. But the thing is that I'm an elitist too. Only I've learned
that the only way to really assess someone is in comparison to others
who operate in the same environment. I have lots of friends and co-workers who went to good schools, have a veneer of sophistication and are pretty articulate but out of earshot I will admit that I don't find them especially bright, or as it pertains to co-workers - particularly good at what they do.
When I look at someone from a working-class background in the middle-of-nowhere who entered a beauty pageant for prize money as well as working summers on a fishing boat to pay for college and rose to be governor of her state I am not going to judge her by the standards of the coastal elite. I simply see a remarkable woman. And what you call her good instincts, as far as I'm concerned, is really a matter of internalizing all that she learns rather than having spent a lifetime of seeing the projection of knowledge as a means of elevating her status. Do you actually think that in her cultural millieu in Alaska that coming across as a brainiac would be received as anything but obnoxious? Her pattern of speech is equally lacking in self-consciousness. In a nutshell, I would not underestimate her. If she continues to harbor national ambitions - or a more national profile anyway - then she'll have to make some adjustments in how she presents herself but while I understand where you're coming from I don't agree with your conclusions. Hipster: Fair enough. I do underestimate her political longevity, though I do like her and enjoyed watching her bring out the worst snide nastiness of people for whom concealing their class disdain under a veneer of "tolerance" is a full-time occupation. According to the next-door neighbor (who got a nosebleed in her sheep-like rush to hop on the "she's a country rube" bandwagon), Palin "didn't use a single verb in her interview." Nonsense, of course; something this woman picked up from some smug media midge.
I don't think she's dumb; I just don't think she's got the kind of quick-on-your-feet mastery of situation that keeps one alive in D.C. And I stand by the fact--one you eluded to, and one I'm sure you know in your heart of hearts is true--that someone who can't answer such a truly simple, direct question as that is someone blinded by the light. "But she CHOSE not to answer the question." She did, indeed, though the observation doesn't fit the case that Frank makes. It was a telling, uncomplicated, very, very poor choice, one that may very well hang around her neck for the rest of her career, fair or not. Better political types would've turned the question to their advantage. And the quaint observation that "she's too nice" fits the point I'm making. She probably is "too nice." Nice finishes last, as we're currently realizing. Here's the deal, though--97% of this board is feverishly convinced that Sarah Palin is the Republican redeemer, that she's got a future--not just a future, a big future--and that this run was a springboard to anointing. They're wrong, but that's not a crime. If she's nominated in 2012 and wins, I'll pen and send a groveling, comprehensive apology for "underestimating her," and I'll forward you a copy ;-) Posted by: railwriter at November 06, 2008 04:34 PM (XcsD4) 116

I really like Sarah Palin. I think when she first cam out at the convention that we were gonna see something good. Then she was kept under wraps too long. It felt like she was so afraid to say anything or she would ruin the campaign. Look at Biden. She was way better than him. McCain was just too old and controlling. I voted for them and was disappointed that they lost. It was not her fault. She brought a refreshing energy that McCain could not. If John McCain had been more loose with her and let her run with it the election may have been a lot different. As soon as he started keeping her under wraps that made the media jump on her good. If she had been out there helping him from the first and showing what she was capable of they might have not been so hard on her. Or, the media assault would not matter because the people could see what she was about. They shot their own campaign in the foot. Add to that the main reason for the loss, not enough money. It was not her fault. Go Sarah. I will vote for you if you ever run again.

I hate to be a contrarian but I feel it is entirely possible that Palin was sooo deficient that the people who were trying to control her just snapped. There are many, many independents and moderate republicans that saw her as a total embarrassment to the country and this also became a common theme in other countries. As more and more evidence comes out I believe it is very possible that we will come to see how bad the selection of Palin really was. Now if Wallace and Schmidt pushed her on McCain then shame on them, but if they fought the selection it is easy to see how they must feel they just wasted two years of their life.

Personally I am getting involved- locally. It is time to take out the trash. Put the traitors names out there- time to clean house. Posted by: Michele at November 07, 2008 12:21 AM (Le0Ck) 132
My question is where in the world is the RNC in this whole fiasco; why are they not enforcing discipline? Is there anybody there that has even a modicum of leadership ability? I don't understand what good they are, or what purpose they've served. This was clearly illustrated when my cousin asked me on Monday ahead of the election if I could name the head of the DNC. Sure, easy, Howard Dean. Then he asked me if I could name the head of the RNC. Not a clue. Larry "Bud" Melman? I'm disgusted with Sen. McCain as well. How humiliating for us to have the battle of the loser aides played out in the media, and for the target of these invertebrates to be Gov. Palin, the only person that was out there showing any kind of balls. Sen. McCain, sir, this fandango is making it very difficult for me to remember you as anything other than the man shameless hack that gave the beautiful surrender speech and then stood by as your very own staff savaged a woman who fought valiantly by your side through this campaign. Loyalty, sir. Posted by: Mack at November 07, 2008 01:19 AM (yH2f7) 133
Oh, this is rich. The people who are dissing Palin's intelligence are the same ones who can't stop humping the leg of Barack "57 States!" Obama. I mean, can you Imagine? we have a cretin as prez-elect who doesn't know there are 50 states in the union!!
And baby, we got that on TAPE. The same idiots who will claim that Palin actually doesn't know Africa is a continent (yeah, right), instead of having a verbal slip, will die on the barricades claiming ole Barry just had a little slip-up, there. Oh, just for the record: the Palins CAN see Russia from their house: the nearest Russian-owned island is just a couple of miles from their front porch. Glenn Beck got it right: she was under withering attack from the moment she came out and made her speech. From the Left, obviously, but also from some factions on the right who saw her as a star, and dangerous. I've heard people at my place of work, all Leftists, complain that she has "too much star power" and has to be destroyed. Circle the wagons, folks. If we rally around her, they can't take her down. She gets it -- she was the only one in this election cycle who had the gonads to call the Dims on their shite. And looked good doing it. That's why they hate her. The Dims always play scorched-earth, slit your prisoners' throat politics. They're positively feral. Vain McCain flatters himself that he can come in from the wilderness and be back in their good graces, but they HAVE no good graces to be in. Dirty, underhanded, lying, ruthless, and they will invert absolutely EVERYTHING to achieve their lying ends. I don't know why that guy keeps whinging on about Palin not saying what she reads: she said in an interview with that PoS Cameron that she was just irritated that Rodent Couric was implying that Alaskans don't read, and don't get the sacred Writ, the NY Slimes. Anyway. Operation Leper is just one thing: we need an effective "Fight the smears" campaign, too. Posted by: Beverly at November 07, 2008 02:26 AM (e8joS) 134
It is amazing that the ONLY VP candidate getting the kind of vetting that Sarah got...is Sarah! Edwards was a know-nothing ambulance chaser who was not asked these questions, either as a VP candidate, or as a presidential candidate.
This country may pat itself on the back for being color blind (although it is not), but when the candidate is female, and conservative, every filthy, crude, crass, attack was leveled at her. The sexist, personal attacks against Sarah have no comparison, and set back evenhanded treatment of the sexes decades. And no one seems to mention that the terrible interviews looked that way in part because they were edited to look that way! If Palin had made even ONE of the gaffes made by Biden, it would have been screamed to the skies. Palin has a remarkable resume, and the handlers squandered the story of her executive experience, her ability to thread the needle of good 'ol boy politics in Alaska, her negotiation of the natural gas pipeline. So apart from the despicable behavior of these aids, they should be blackballed because they did a bad job! Posted by: skeeter at November 07, 2008 02:36 AM (Cxp80) 135
You guys are awesome! You & your circular firing squad -- thanks for the comedy gold these past couple of months. You do realize that the US, minus a small sliver of the southeast & texas, is turning blue, right? That the crazier you folks get the more irrelevant you'll become, right? Do any of you realize that Palin was in WAY over her head? She's just not very bright. Sometimes you just have to admit "we weren't good enough," or "our message does not appeal to enough people." Because you do realize that this time around it wasn't the messengers, it was the message, right?

John Edwards had only a few years in the Senate and had zero accomplishments, but yet he was treated with kid gloves. Here comes a young female governor, who got there with no help from a famous spouse, family money, Ivy League background or affirmative action and the knives come out.

Sarah Palin was the life of the Republican party. She was one of the main reasons why I voted McCain in the recent election. We should fight any attempts by these GOP idiots, and the nasty mainstream media (NBC, ABC, CNN, NY Times) to smear her. No I don't want to Schmidt and Wallace anywhere near politics in the future. And I smile every time I read about how the mainstream media news networks are losing ratings (and advertisers) and how the NY Times and Washington Post are losing subscribers. They are nothing more than Soviet style propaganda machines. The bias and vicious attacks that we saw (and continue to see) against Sarah Palin are unacceptable. Why is it that we saw none against Obama, Pelosi, Hillary Clinton despite some of their highly questionable activities and actions.

I was blessed to get to go to 3 rallies to hear Sarah speak- SHE is the real deal behind the Republican party. SHE energized the supporters who would be voting for McCain only because they were against Obama . SHE spoke the truth and said what needed to be said- I wish we had her earlier in the campaign.
The McCain camp lost this for us, not Sarah. There were plenty of missed opportunities to call out the truth about Obama and his associations. Sarah was the only one with the guts to do and SHE WILL BE BACK- Posted by: P Clements at November 07, 2008 09:42 AM (Vb7t3) 140
The only reason I voted for John McCain was Gov. Sarah Palin. And if the republications want my vote in 2012, they had better get another Sarah Palin on board.

Makes it much less painful to accept Obama's win. If these losers had made it to the White House, they would be so busy backstabbing each other and assigning blame that McCain would have had a completely disfunctional staff.

Palin is the ONLY reason Obama DIDN'T win by over 60%. Her choice energized the Conservative base in a way McCain never could.
These people should get down on their knees and THANK Sarah for taking this job, not pissing on her when they lost. She's a very classy woman, a very smart woman, and one I would be proud of supporting again in any election. Sarah, you have a fan here - stay positive. These people are just trying to pass off blame on you, when it is their fault you lost. They are petty, small people. You are a giant in character. First time poster, long time reader. Glad that Sarah Palin brought a lot of folks out to vote. Botched rollout or not, the problem is that she drove a bunch of others back home. Like those moderate republicans that everyone seems to dump on. You know, the majority that brought Reagan to power in the first place. And now we have Obama in the White House. Given the amount of discord on this board on whether or not she's even qualified...do we believe that it's going to get better? You guys do the math. I, like millions of Sarah Palin supporters, am saddened by the actions of Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace, two key McCain campaign aides. During and after the election, they have tried to destroy Sarah Palin's political future and discourage Republican supporters throughout the country. How dare they? As a Republican women, wife, mother and self-employed marketing consultant, I am ashamed of my party! These petty and self-serving comments are an insult to John McCain and our party.
Schmidt and Wallace, have been on a mission to trash Sarah Palin to the media! I can only imagine this was done to deflect their "brilliant" strategy of introducing the most popular governor in the United States through interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric. How did that strategy work? For Schmidt, who never graduated from college, to question her intelligence is very interesting indeed. Recently, the media asked Schmidt if Sarah Palin cost McCain votes and his response was no comment! Nicole Wallace, a Berkley grad, former CBS employee and co-worker with Couric, has been the source of leaks and deliberate misinformation to defame the first national women candidate for the GOP. Is there any wonder why Americans are turned off by the political process?
For over 13 years I have been proud of the Republican Party and when John McCain selected Sarah Palin as the first Republican women nominated to a national ticket, I was elated!! I live outside the beltway and I have seen first-hand how she has energized our demoralized base. She is the future of this party no matter what Schmidt and Wallace say! Sarah Palin is an intelligent, confident, practical and self-made woman. With so little role models in the Republican Party, she is exactly what we need as we look to the future. Like most women, she became involved locally through her PTA and as a small business owner. She didn't attend an Ivy League college, she graduated from a state university and along the way also attended a community college because she couldn't afford college full time.
Sarah Palin drew record-breaking crowds because America connected with someone who is real and genuine. Schmidt and Wallace are Washington, DC parasites that rise and fall because of someone elses accomplishments. Sarah Palin was not only targeted by the media, but also by a couple of rotten apples in her own campaign!
The Republican Party will be selecting a new Chairman in the upcoming months and my choice is Michael Steele! Please contact your state party and show your support for Michael. I have just created a site called www.steele4gopchair.com

Wow - the Obama fans are still threatened. Amazing!
The McCain campaign was a disaster from top to bottom. Their ground game sucked. I know, I was a volunteer. The local "Victory" guy was a bit too inexperienced in dealing with people and ended up alienating most of them. The McCain/RNC group pretty much refused to work with the local candidates to leverage anything that was happening with them to get a mutual boost. Its like the base and the grass roots didn't exist to them. Regardless of the media reports, those of us that were in the trenches know that if he had picked anyone of the others mentioned (Romney, Rudy, Leiberman, Ridge), he would have lost by double-digits. She kept him close. Her rollout was a disaster. She should have been out the day after the convention giving policy speeches for the special needs kids and energy policy. They should have had her "cutting her teeth" on national interview with the friendlier teams of every major talk radio show and some of the local ones wherever she was campaigning. They should have said, hey, she isn't the foreign policy expert on the ticket, McCain is. But instead they tried to make her into something she wasn't. They put her on ice for the first 2 weeks, let the media define her and then threw her to the ABC and CBS wolves. Whoever came up with that strategy is an idiot. Sarah will be fine. She just needs a couple more years to learn now that she knows what she will have to deal with. Posted by: jj1968 at November 08, 2008 06:14 PM (iLJBL) 158

I can't understand why any thinking American, would support John McCain's pick for VP. It's obvious, his pick was to try and get the woman vote after Hillary lost the Democratic bid. Just the idea of her stepping into the Presidency, if anything happened to him, should have brought up red flags in his own thinking. He sank so low in his obsessive desire to be President that anything goes. With not even a thought as to her capabilities of running this country. I thought Quayle was the worst VP pick in recent elections. Seems you ignorant, hateful, Nazi, fundamentalist Christian republicans, will elect any warm body, as long as they are on the republican ticket. McCain, "was" a war hero during Vietnam. Yet that handle doesn't and won't carry misguided decision in the future. He showed himself to be a angry, manipulative, senile has been, in his bid for the Presidency. Palin had her 15 minutes of fame. Now she is a joke, who sees delusions of greatness in her hick mind. She's to ignorant to see how much she is embarrassing herself !! Rove tactics won't work for Americans anymore. Even with Palins uninformed attack dog speeches, Obama was elected. Your fear mongering and lies gave you defeat. Fat boy Limbaugh and weakling of a man Hannity, plus all the rest of you attack dogs, it's over for you. Palin, keep up your delusions. You employ a lot of people. In Comedy late night shows and SNL. We are not laughing with you Palin. We are laughing at you !!!!! Republicans your base is the rich and the ignorant. If you go back to being a organization of honor and truth, I'm sure the American public will welcome back the party of Lincoln. It will take a long time to earn our trust again, after 8 years of just a warm body as President of the United States with Bush and his scorch America tactics, the Bush administration will be a ball and chain for the Republican party for years to come!!!!! Get over looking for the persons who leaked or said, this or that. It don't matter!!!!! Your lies and deceit have attracted the nuts in America. McCain's rallies showed the world that. In the world of instant communication, the Republican party and ONLY the Republican party is to blame!!! One more thing, put a bag over Palins head, duct tape her mouth, send her back to Alaska, then pretend she doesn't exist!!!!

You can spot neocons like Wallace by their frequent resorting to the term "rogue" as a pejorative. As in, "I think she is going more rogue." First Cheney gave us talk about rogue nations -- not, mind you the US as it invaded Iraq after losing its effort to get a UN mandate -- now his adviser Wallace gives us "rogue candidates." For them, I am a rogue commentator. I guess the opposite of rogue for them must be the epitomy of morality. Except they are unilateral rogues themselves. Go figure.

It took over a week for McCain to start denouncing this did it not. Michelle M. - Given that, I think McCain should be at the top of the leper list.... I was at the Sarah rally in Johnstown, PA... Crowds lined up out the door, pure rock concert electricity in the crowd... If McCain picked anyone else but her, he would have lost by 12-15 million votes IMO.... She has the pop culture rock star status Obama has, but on the conservative side... Our party should leverage that in the future.. It should have to come down to that, but that is the reality of what our society has become... I think she would be a great leader and can win if allowed to capaign within her own element...
