Barone: "WPEs" in Virginia Show That Obama's Actual Numbers Ten Points Worse Than Exit Polls

Other states also show him lagging the polls, but not to that extent. In Florida, it's around 4%.

Explaining that WPEs in PA still showed Obama comfortably ahead. Supposedly, the tallies from the counties where they've gotten actual votes are close enough to exit polls that they think they can call it... with a 1 in 250 chance of being outside-the-margin-of-error wrong.

WPEs: Are "Within precinct error." It's the comparison between exit polls in polled precincts to actual votes.

18 Vodkapundit: "6:49PM With almost half of precincts reporting, McCain is still up by 8 points in VA. That’s getting tough to reconcile with the exit polling and the hearsay reports. What’s going on? A tighter race than expected, perhaps — odd, given Obama’s popularity and McCain’s lousy ground operation."

More evidence of the absolute shittiness of the exit polls.

42 Guys, the PUMAs told us they were going to lie to the exit pollers. That's part of the game. They were well aware that the Obamamessiah told his supporters to run, not walk, to the pollers so that the news would get out that Obama was winning an "overwhelming" victory, thus discouraging people from turning out. They're just returning tit-for-tat, making sure that the only thing the exit polls will show correctly is how in-the-tank the media is for Obama.

I do not want to get on these folks' bad sides. They don't just want the Obamamedia humiliated, they want them crushed, ground into tiny pieces, and spread all over Chicago's drinking water system.

WPE = Wickedpinto Energy.  Released when a bitch has just been broken.

So, how come every network calls PA right off, but not Texas?  I mean, does anyone really think Texas is going for Obama?

(Incidentally, local news showed the R in the lead in TX-22 (Delay's old seat), but not by that much and not many votes have been counted.  TX-22 is the Rs' best chance for a pickup this year.  I'll update y'all when I get more info.)

Posted by: Mrs. Peel at November 04, 2008 10:07 PM (8CGjC)

45 It's not based on the exit polls, it's based on the exit polls vs. the actual returns precinct by precinct.  If the exit poll says +15, and a few test precincts show +5, they call it for Barry.

It ain't over-- but it ain't lookin' good, either.

Just remember about these battleground states - over 5% voter fraud (5% was previous average).  Kinda hard to make that up with the media tanking it this year, but how the hell is a Marxist getting more than 10% of any vote?

McCain Overperforming the Exit Polls; Still Has a Shot at VA, NC, IN, FL

I've heard from someone who's comparing the exit poll data and the final polls and the actual results. The word is (surprise!) McCain is overperforming both. They conclude that while they can't call the states in any significant margin, they give McCain a serious shot of holding on to Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. (There is an ominous comment about Indiana perhaps being vulnerable to last-minute Gary shenanigans.) They also note that as of 9 p.m., McCain actually leads the popular vote. Now, a lot of the country has to be thrown into the pile, but that doesn't quite scream landslide, at least not yet.

Someone here has MSNBC on (in another room, thankfully), and Matthews was saying (if I remember correctly) that 1/3 of the people who voted for the Republican governor crossed over to Obama (based on exit polls).  However, right now, with 64% of the precincts reporting for governor and 63% of the precincts reporting for president, the race for governor is 60-38.  So the race for president should be about 40-58.  It's not; it's 51-48.  That sounds a lot like 15%, not 1/3.  That's a huge error.

Yet somehow they are calling Pennsylvania based on exit polls.  And Kerry won Philly 81-19 or so.  Obama leads 76-23 (of course, it matters what neighborhoods have reported so far).

127 And let us not forget that it's not simply that these networks are biased (which they undoubtedly are) but also that they want to be the ones that get the "big scoop" first, so they'll call a state without really knowing the answer because-hey, they've got a 50/50 shot and they want to be the first ones to call it.

So...when are they going to call Texas?  Geez.

On the bright side, if Obama does win, it will be hilarious to watch the disappointment when people realize that their souls have not been healed and the oceans have not begun to recede.

I'm working on my "thesis" of why the country has apparently shifted center/left...W is at the top of the list, but there are several reasons.

As the R's move further left, thanks in part to the smart folks who say we have to expand the party (Noonan, Parker, Frum, Buckly), we win fewer and fewer elections.  Seems obvious to me, but then again, I'm not one of the smart folks.

This is why the right is getting it's ass thoroughly kicked.  No balls. Not that I ever had any but it seems eerily similar to a South African mindset settling in. All those idiots had guns out the ass but went down without so much as a shot. And they weren't even the rightful sons of the country as is the case here. Stupid Republicans gave away the shop. Too busy making money to buy things to worry about the politics of their kids and parents. Remember this and give it time:

Guys, the PUMAs told us they were going to lie to the exit pollers.

160 How does PA end up more blue than NY, IL, or NJ??? That's what Fox has on their damned map right now, and it just doesn't compute with me.

Posted by: cthulhu at November 04, 2008 10:52 PM (qe4D8)

161 Not being Eeyore-ish, just being realistic:

Right now, PA has their unofficial returns coming in and it's not looking good for McCain. Obama appears to have about 60% of the popular vote with McCain having about 38%. Here's the thing: McCain IS leading in a few counties that are normally Republican strongholds. However, Obama has such blowout leads in the big cities (Pittsburgh, Philadelphia) that it's offsetting any counties that McCain may be winning.

With only 35% of precincts reporting, McCain still has a (long) shot.

I initially said McCain would win PA but now I think most Democrats just voted straight-party ticket judging by the way the statewide polls are going.

I still think OH should be contested. Especially if McCain loses by, oh say, 200,000...

Just watching as Iowa goes Obama I flash back to the Republican Party primaries, where Iowa was the first to force this nominee upon us.  How do we reform this party's nomination process so that liberals don't tee up bogus nominees for us?  That started this whole mess, with democrats crossing over to screw with our process and by the time they got to Virginia McCain had already secured the nomination, Fred had dropped out.  Mitt had dropped out.

Can we initiate a weighting system based on percentage of Dem vs. Rep votes in the last presidential race?  Why does Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida get as much weight as real Red States, of which VA is probably no longer one, nor NC.

We need some fresh ideas.  The old stuff just ain't working anymore.  Thompson/Palin or Romney/Palin would have smoked this turkey.

Thoughts?

PA has been a tease for the GOP the past two elections. The same thing happened last time, where Bush spent a lot of money and effort in PA saying it looked close. They really thought they could win it. Well, it wasn't close as insane numbers coming out for Kerry in Philly swamped everything else going on in the state. The "Rendell Effect", it was called.

The Dems have an uncrackable lock on every major urban center and increasingly in their 'burbs, too. Not one of them is red, even in GOP safehavens like TX: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio = blue, blue, blue.

We've got to take on these "community organizers" in the urban centers and their environs; they are the heart of our opposition; Obama's background emphasizes this trend.

Organize, get involved in your communities, establish a basis for, hoy-vey!, "conservative action" as a viable agent at the local level.

My 2 cents!
