I still think the more important stories are voter suppression phone calls in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (hugely important for McCain) telling people their polling places had been changed.

And kicking Republican pollwatchers out of over half a dozen polling places in Philadelphia (so ballot boxes could be stuffed).

These are at least as important. How is CNN doing covering them?

I actually do think that his civilian security force will at least have an arm that tries to institutionalize intimidation and thuggery even more. They probably can't do it with everyone, but some of them will be used to do exactly this sort of thing.

In that world I am not sure how brave I will be. In this one I would love the opportunity to walk past these jackboot jackasses to vote.

Some lawyer friends of mine are acting as roving poll watchers here in Durham, NC, and reported that when they told the Democrat precinct judge that they were observing voter irregularities (people clustered around a table sharing their ballot info rather than voting individually), the precinct judge (Kate Bartlett, a former Duke law school dean, I kid you not) said "I don't really agree with that rule, so I'm not going to enforce it."

They produced a printout of the NC statute that states in no uncertain terms that voters are supposed to vote individually, but she continued to argue with them rather than agree to enforce it.

So, former law school dean, what's the point of having laws again? Because I don't remember the part that says "if you don't agree with this law, you don't have to follow it." In fact I'm pretty sure that that attitude would lead to the downfall of the entire legal system. But that's just me!
